SYLVESTER - Allie Pearl Walker, 90, of 1104 N. Henderson Street, Sylvester, died Sunday, January 26, 2003, at her residence.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at First African Baptist Church with interment in Shepard Memorial Garden. The Rev. Patrick Rickett will officiate.
A native of Terrell County, Mrs. Walker was born August 10, 1912. She was a retired laundromat attendant. She was a member of First African Baptist Church and served as head usher on the usher board.
Survivors include two sisters, Ada Timmons and Mildred Greene, both of Sylvester; two brothers, Tom Brown and Nathan Barnes, both of Sylvester; 10 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and 24 great-great grandchildren.

BAINBRIDGE - Otis L. Brock Sr., 71, of Bainbridge died Monday, January 27, 2003, at Salem Baptist Church.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Salem Baptist Church in Climax with interment in Brock Cemetery in Bainbridge. The Rev. Ed Harrell will officiate.
Mr. Brock was born on July 13, 1931, in Decatur County, the son of Willie Lee Brock and Mary Dell Adams Brock. He married Edna Dickens Brock on July 2, 1955. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was a plumber and pipe fitter. He was a member of Salem Baptist Church in Climax.
Survivors include his wife, Edna D. Brock of Bainbridge; a son, Otis L. Brock Jr. of Bainbridge; two daughters, Vicki B. Faircloth and Belinda B. Barwick, both of Bainbridge; two brothers, Lavon Brock of Baconton and Ennis Brock of Bainbridge; three sisters, Marie Williams of Pelham, Rosa Strickland of Tallahassee, Fla., and Sue Gilson of Copperas Cove, Texas; and eight grandchildren, Wayne Melton, Wesley Barwick, Lee Brock, Casey Brock, Stephanie Brock, Brandi Melton, Ashley Barwick and Megan Brock, all of Bainbridge.
The family will be meeting at the home of Otis L. Brock Jr., 2833 Old Whigham Road, Bainbridge, GA.
The family will receive friends from 7 p.m.-9 p.m. today at Ivey Funeral Home.

James Hudson Crowdis Jr.
BLAKELY - Dr. James Hudson Crowdis Jr., 84, of 21732 Lucille Road, Blakely, died Tuesday, January 28, 2003, at his residence.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church with interment in Blakely Cemetery. The Rev. Henry Bass and the Rev. David Crowdis will officiate.
The active pallbearers will be Charles Crowdis, Hugh Crowdis, Levi Crowdis, Jonathan Crowdis, Ben Crowdis, Neil Peters, Hugh Crowdis and Doug Crowdis.
Dr. Crowdis was born October 4, 1918, in Hashville, Tenn. He practiced medicine in Blakely for 53 years, delivering more than 6,000 babies. He came to Blakely in 1949, after receiving his M.D. from Vanderbilt University in 1944. He began as a staff member of Holland Hospital, later working with Baxley Clinic and joining the staff of Early Memorial Hospital in 1963. At the time of his retirement in 2002, he was associated with Southeast Medical Center. His special medical interests, in addition to his medical practice, included cardiology, obstetrics and aviation medicine. He was recognized by the American Heart Association as "Heart of the Year" and a diplomat of the American Board of Family Practice. He was a U.S. Army Air Corp. veteran of WW II. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Magnolia Lodge #86, Hasan Temple-Albany, Shriner's Drum and Bugle Corp. and the Blakely Rotary Club.
Survivors include his wife, Amanda Haswell Crowdis of Blakely; one daughter, Diane Peters of Duluth; five sons, Jimmy Crowdis and Eleanor of Dublin, Robert Crowdis and Judy of Macon, Richard Crowdis and Kathy of Albany and the Rev. David Crowdis and Gay of Edison and Johnny Crowdis and Rhonda of Blakely; brother, Charles C. Crowdis of West Hartford, Conn.; 12 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James Hudson Crowdis Sr. and Mary Walker Cummings Crowdis.
Visitation will be 6 p.m.-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Building Fund of First United Methodist Church of Blakely.

VALDOSTA - Gail Cannon Irby, 64, of Valdosta, died Monday, January 27, 2003, at her residence.
Born in Columbus on November 10, 1938, Mrs. Irby was the daughter of the late Frank B. and Genevieve Crawford Cannon. Formerly of Sylvester, she had lived in Valdosta since 1971. She was a wife, mother, grandmother and friend to all who knew her.
Survivors are her husband, Vaughn Irby Sr. of Valdosta; sons and daughters-in-law, William Vaughn Jr. and Linda Irby of Thomasville, Richard Munro and Sandra Irby of Waycross; grandchildren, Kyle Irby and Kristen Irby of Waycross; a sister, Genevieve Cannon Katter of Noblesville, Indiana; brother, Frank B. Cannon Jr. of Atlanta.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Riverview Memorial Gardens. The Reverend Richard Irby will officiate.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 p.m.- 8 p.m. today.
Donations may be made to Hospice of South Georgia, or flowers will be accepted.

Mrs. Mills was born December 28, 1925, in Ft. Gaines, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. R.T. Crozier Jr. Mrs. Mills served as City Clerk in Ft. Gaines for 23 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, John W. Mills Sr., and a son, John W. Mills Jr.
Survivors include her sons, Jimmy, Charles, and Steve; a daughter, Mary-Anne Pilkenton; two sisters, Ann Pierce of Edison and Pat Watkins of Columbus; a sister-in-law, Francis Crozier of Bainbridge; two granddaughters, Malory Mills and Ashley Pilkenton; 10 grandsons serving as pallbearers, John Mills III, Andy Mills, Randy Mills, Russ Mills, Chuck Mills, Scott Mills, Chipper Mills, Steve Mills Jr., Matt Mills and Jesse Pilkenton.

A native of Worth County, GA, Mrs. Bates had lived in Albany for 55 years where she was a member of First Assembly of God Church, owner of B&B Grocery for 30 years, and a former member of the Salvation Army.
Survivors include her four grandchildren, Tammy K. Taliaferro of Leesburg, GA, David Lane Parker of Mayville, NY, Marion Randall Bates Jr. of Leesburg, GA, and Jennifer B. Allison of Leesburg, GA; 14 great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.

ALBANY - Herbert Lamar Beaty, 77, of 2305 Tompkins Ave. died Tuesday, January 28, 2003, at his residence.
The funeral service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Morningside United Methodist Church with the Rev. Paul Dupree officiating. Interment will be held at 2:30 p.m. at Westview Cemetery in Moultrie.
Mr. Beaty, a native of Pavo, had lived in Albany since 1965. He was an Army veteran of WW II where he was the recipient of two Purple Hearts and two Bronze Stars. He was a retired supervisor with ITT and had served as President of the Dougherty High School PTSA from 1988-1991. He was a member of Morningside United Methodist Church, a member and Treasurer of the City Board of Missions, the Treasurer of Hispanic Ministries and was on the Board of Directors and Treasurer of Wesley Glen Ministries, which is the United Methodist Church ministry to persons with mental disabilities. Mr. Beaty volunteered with Meals on Wheels and was the husband of the late Hannah Lou Beaty.
Survivors include his sons and daughters-in-law, Lynn and Debbie Beaty of Albany and Scott and Laurie Beaty of Albany; son, Rob Beaty of Albany; daughter and son-in-law, Doreen and Steve Allen of Albany; daughters, Susan Rawlins of Milwaukee, Wisc., and Julie Beaty of Tifton; brother and sister-in-law, James E. and Barbara Beaty of Moultrie.
Memorials may be made to Morningside United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 50184, Albany, GA 31703.
The family will receive friends Friday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

A native of Dooly County, Mrs. Roberts was born April 3, 1919. She had lived in Worth County most of her life and was a member of New Bethel Freewill Baptist Church. Mrs. Roberts' parents were the late Joe Dorminey and Kate Irvin Dorminey. She was the widow of Jesse T. Roberts who died January 21, 1963. She was preceded in death October 8, 1969, by a son, Freddie Joe Roberts.
Survivors include a daughter, Annette R. Cox of Albany; son, Bobby T. Roberts of Sylvester; sister, Katie Lois McDonald of Sylvester; six grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Tucker, a native of Alapaha, GA, and he was born October 9, 1922. He had been retired for the past six years. Mr. Tucker was preceded in death by his parents, Maude and Henry Tucker and his son, Winston Tucker.
Survivors include his wife, Lois Lott Tucker of Albany; son, Shelton Tucker and wife Janie of Albany; daughter, Vivian Gruber and her husband Larry of Albany; sister, Juanita Beckium of Mt. Verdi, FL: five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
