The funeral service of Charles Mervin King, 86 of Albany, who died Friday, January 7, 2005, at Palmyra Nursing Home, will be conducted Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. (CST) at Good Hope Baptist Church in Pike County, Alabama, (five miles West of Troy, AL, off Hwy. 29). Rev. Wayne Lockar and Mr. Bill King will officate. Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery.
A native of Pike County, AL, Mr. King had resided in Albany since 1958, moving here from Macon, GA. He was a graduate of Auburn University with a business degree and for a number of years worker with Sears & Roebuck as Store Controller. He was the retired owner/operator of Maryland Fried Chicken, an avid golfer and former member of the Optimist Club in Birmingham, AL. He was a Veteran of WWII serving in the Army and was of the Methodist Faith. Mr. King was preceded in death by a son, David Mervin King.
Survivors include his wife, Vera Carter King of Albany, a son Richard Carter King of Albany, a daughter, Angela King Brock of Oakfield, CA, two brothers, Curtis King and Bill King both of Troy, AL, a sister Helen King Furlow of Walnut Creek, Ca, six grandchildren, Scott Charles Renfroe, Jason Lee Renfroe, Richard Luther King, Kimberly Renfroe Alford, Joshua Carter King and Courtney Garrison King and three great-grandchildren, Jacob William Alford, Laurel Ansley Renfroe and Jenna Kayley Alford.

The graveside funeral service of Lois Geraldine Johnson Lane, 79, of 905 Frotscher St., Albany, who died Sunday, April 17, 2005 at her daughter's residence, will be conducted Tuesday, April 19, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at Riverside Cemetery. Rev. Mike Zwemke will officiate.
A native of Preston, Ga., Mrs. Lane had resided in Albany for the past sixty years. She was a retired men's department manager with Kmart, a school crossing guard and a homemaker. Mrs. Lane was a member of the Lutheran Church in Plains, Ga. She was one of fifteen children and was preceded in death by twelve of her siblings and her daughter, Donna Kay Lane.
Survivors include her son, Robert Lane, a daughter and her husband, Shirley and Leo Bowersox, all of Albany, three sisters, Zada Edwards and her husband, Russ, and Jean Kennedy and her husband, Gordon, all of Albany and Barbara Bridges of Covington, KY. Three grandchildren, Lee Bowersox of Tallahassee, FL, Stacey Dickson of Jonesboro, Ga and Rusty Lane of Newton, Ga, and seven great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the residence of Leo and Shirley Bowersox, 606 Mitchell Ave., Albany, Ga.

The funeral service of Lizzie (Ruthie) Casey Hancock, 95, of 1904 Palmyra Road, Albany, who died November 27, 2005, will be conducted Wednesday at 3:00 P.M. at Mathews Funeral Home. Rev. Bobby Stripling will officiate. Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery. David Dekle, Don Dekle, Franklin Early, Wayne Early, Thomas King and Richard King will serve as active pallbearers.
A native of Worth County, Ga., Mrs. Hancock had resided in Albany for over seventy years. She was the widow of Oliver Hampton Hancock, was a Baptist and retired from Flint River Mills in 1972 after forty five years. Mrs. Hancock was preceded in death by a son, Elzie L. Hancock, her parents, Jeff and Callie Casey, a sister, Tommie Jane Casey and four brothers, Johnnie, Bill, T.G., and J.D. Casey.
Survivors include three daughters, Viola Early of Moultrie, Nadine King and her husband, Frank, and Marlene Dekle and her husband, Marion, all of Albany, a sister, Shirley Cooper of Lee County, two brothers, Henry Casey and Homer Casey both of Albany, sixteen grandchildren and many, many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Shirley S. Gray, 63, of 1701 Schley Avenue, Albany, died Thursday, July 29, 2004, at her residence. Her remains have been cremated. The 11:00 a.m. Sunday services at Terrell Baptist Church (Hwy 112, Worth County) will be held in memory of Mrs. Gray.
A native of Morvin, AL, Mrs. Gray had resided in Albany for the past forty years moving here from Duncan, MS. She worked with her husband as bookkeeper for Arnold Gray's Welding Shop and was a member of The Women of Moose # 1462 since 1977 where she had previously served as Senior Regent. Mrs. Gray was of the baptist faith and loved Bingo.
Survivors include her husband, Arnold Gray, Sr. of Albany, three sons, Marty Gray of Fitzgerald, Arnold Gray, Jr. and his wife, Kristi and Bobby William Gray and his wife, Kecia, all of Lee County, a daughter, Rebecca Land of Sylvester, her mother, Bobbie H. Nazary of Twin City, Ms., a brother, Dale Smith of Carrollton, MS, a sister, Faye Gipson of Greenwood MS, six grandchildren, David Gray, Chrissy Land, Carley Land, Arnold Gray III, Mandy Laflam and Sara Gray.

The funeral service of Roy Douglas Brooks, 81, of 2314 Cascade Lane, Albany, who died Sunday at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital, will be conducted Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at Mathews Funeral Home. Rev. Tommy Lowery will officiate. Interment will follow in Floral Memory Gardens.
A native of Baker County, Mr. Brooks was raised in Albany but moved to Hiawassee, GA in 1988 where he lived before moving back to Albany recently. He was a WWII veteran serving in the US Navy and served on the USS SanDiego. Mr. Brooks was a retired electrical foreman and a member of the Lions Club in Hiawassee. He attended First Christian Church of Albany and was an avid fisherman in his sparetime.
Survivors include his wife, Jeanne Brooks of Albany, GA., a daughter and her husband, Beverly and Bill Fleming of Birmingham, AL, two grandsons, Doug Fleming and Paul Fleming both of Birmingham, a great-granddaughter, a sister, Louise Alligood of Albany and several nieces and nephews.

A native of Hawkinsville, Ga., Mrs. Sheffield had resided in Albany since 1950. She was a retired sales lady with C.B.K. and was a member of Beacon Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Thomas Sheffield, Jr. and her parents, Charlie Pate Morgan and Vida Cleo Little Morgan.
Survivors include her daughter, Tracey Mitchell of Atlanta, GA, a sister, Tommie Morgan Sheffield of Macon, GA, two brothers, James Claude Morgan and B. Joel Morgan, both of Albany, three grandchildren, Tyler and Austin Woods and Collin Mitchell, two brother-in-laws, Royce Sheffield of Albany and Jack Sheffield of Cochran, GA, a sister-in-law, Merrill VanDevender of Kerns, WV and many nieces and nephews.

A native of Cobb Co., GA., Mr. Pannell had resided in Albany for the past fifty six years moving from Moultrie. He was a Navy veteran of WW II serving on the USS Impulse and later joined the Army and was a paratrooper. Mr. Pannell was an avid dirt track racer and participated in NASCAR during the 1960's and retired from racing in the 1970's. He was the retired owner of Pannell Trucking Co. and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife, Dean Pannell, Albany, a son, Skip Pannell, Albany, a daughter, Linda Simpson, Moultrie, four sisters, Lena Adams and Thelma Spain and her husband Jimmy all of Fortson, GA., Lucy Wiard and her husband Roy, Albany, Zelma Wachtel, Griffin, GA., four grandchildren, Kim Freeman, Kevin Simpson, Tanya Brigman, Tonya Snipes and six great grandchildren.

Lincoln Avenue, Albany, who died Monday, April 11, 2005 at her residence, will be conducted Wednesday, April 13, 2005 at 3:00 p.m. at Victory Tabernacle Assembly of God. The Rev. Eddie Adams will officiate. Interment will follow in Mars Hill Cemetery in Edison, GA.
A native of Coffee County, GA, Mrs. Jones had resided in Albany since 1950 moving here from Blakely. She was a retired tupperware manager and a member of Victory Tabernacle Assembly of God.
Survivors include her son, James Dudley Jones and his wife, Nancy, of Albany, a daughter, Martha Horne of Sylvester, GA, six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Paula Haltom.

A native of Colquitt Co., GA., Mr. Bynum had resided in Albany for the past forty seven years moving here from Mitchell Co., GA. He was retired from Flint River Textiles and was a member of the Southside Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia Ann Broome, his brothers, Robert Bynum, Thomas Bynum, Herman Bynum, Albert Bynum, George Bynum and his sisters, Ruth Walker, Ethel Bynum and Pearl Pollock.
Survivors include his wife, Doris Golden Bynum, Albany, two daughters and their husbands, Helen Marie Zilora and Butch, Manchester, CT., Mary B. Jackson and Richard of Albany, a sister, Maebelle Butler, Pelham, eight grandchildren, Samuel H. Broome, Jr., Sharon Marie Brown, Vernon James Broome and his wife Lacy, Melissa Timms and her husband Ray, Tonya Stripling-Bryan and her husband Rodney, Richard Alan Jackson, James Anthony Zilora and his wife Heather, Jennifer Piper and her husband Bart and eight great-grandchildren.

Survivors include a son and his wife, Reginald and Joan Cato Pollard of Albany, a daughter, Barbara Pollard of Albany, seven grandchildren, Regina Dickerson, Jo Ellen Testwuide, Reginald (Reggie) Pollard, Jr., Jody Pollard, Beth Pollard, Kellie Baker and Charles Pollard and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son, Dr. Charles Randy Pollard.

A native of Lumberton, NC, Mrs. Rumburg had resided in Lee County since 1983 moving from Albany. She was a homemaker and the widow of Wallace G. Rumburg. She was a member of Philadelphia United Methodist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Genie R. Anglin of Lee County, GA, and Rebecca Ortiz of Suisun, CA, a son, Stephen Carlos Rumburg of North Augusta, SC, nine grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
