CUTHBERT - Sarah Elizabeth Woodward Giles, 84, of Route 1, Ft. Gaines, died Saturday, February 1, 2003, at the University of Alabama Burn Center in Birmingham. The graveside funeral service will be conducted Saturday at 11 a.m. at Crown Hill Mausoleum in Crown Hill Cemetery in Albany. The Rev. Ed Holloway will officiate.
Mrs. Giles was born February 14, 1918, in LaGrange, GA, daughter of the late Emmett Woodward and Myrtle Lee Cordell Woodward. She was the personal secretary for the late Governor M.E. Thompson and was retired from Clay County Family and Children Services. Mrs. Giles was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, John B. Giles of Ft. Gaines; a son, John G. Giles Jr. of Alpharetta; four grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

CUTHBERT - Preston Rene' Montalvo, 25, of U.S. Highway 82, Leesburg, died Tuesday, February 4, 2003, at The Medical Center of Middle Georgia from injuries received in an accident in Taylor County.
Mr. Montalvo was born December 22, 1977, in Sarasota, Fla., was a highway surveyor for Construction Engineers of Dawson, and was a member of the Faith Mennonite Faith.
Survivors include his parents, Edwin and Shirley Reese of Cuthbert; two sisters, Shurell April Montalvo of Albany and IS2 Twila Jenea Montalvo, U.S. Navy stationed in Norfork, VA; a stepbrother, Stacy Reese of Leesburg; and fiancee, Lisa Evans of Leesburg.
The funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at Lunsford Funeral Home with interment in East View Cemetery.

MOULTRIE - William Boyd "Billy" Murphy, 56, of 144 Sherrels Ford Drive, Senoia, GA, died Monday, February 3, 2003, in Albany.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at Cobb Funeral Chapel.
A native of Colquitt County, Mr. Murphy was born June 22, 1946. He was a mechanical engineer employed with Butler International Piping Designer. He was an Army veteran and a member of the Assembly of God. Mr. Murphy was the son of the late Sue Burns Murphy and Raybon Wright Murphy.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Bonner Murphy of Senoia; four sons, Ricky Murphy and Mitch Murphy, both of Albany, and Tony Murphy and Clay Murphy, both of Senoia; sister, Barbara Jordan of Moultrie; and three grandchildren, Chet Murphy, Hannah Plummer, and Melanie Plummer.

A native of Turner County, Mrs. Smith was born November 10, 1923. She was educated in the Turner County public school system, was a member of the Usher Board of Zion Hope Baptist Church and had been employed as a cook.
Survivors include a son, Freddie Lee Temple of Ashburn; two sisters, Evelyn Robinson and Betty Jean Moore, both of Atlanta; brother-in-law, Hubert Lawson of Ashburn; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.

Born May 3, 1919 in Lee County, Mr. Battle was a sanitation engineer. He attended Lee County public schools and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include three sons, Arthur Carl Battle of Jacksonville, Fla., Harry Battle Jr. of Atlanta and Joseph Battle of Albany; two daughters, Rosa Mary Battle of Albany and Veronice Gordon of Detroit, Mich.; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

ALBANY - Beela Ellis, 94, of Kennedale, TX, formerly of Albany, died Friday, January 24, 2003, in Arlington, TX.

A native of Spalding County, GA, Miss Ellis moved to Albany with her parents, James Thomas and Lizzie Olia Ellis in 1922. She began working as a stenographer with Civil Service and worked in Asheville, NC, and Atlanta for a while, then worked in Florida for 10 years. She returned to Albany in 1959 where she lived and worked at the Marine Corps until her retirement.
Survivors include two nephews, Wayne S. Cordell and his wife Roberta of Kennedale, TX, and Donald Cordell and his wife Alice of Prescott, AZ; a niece, Joanne B. Calafiura of Arlington, TX.
The family will receive friends at Kimbrell-Stern from 12:30 PM until the time of service.

A native of Dade City, FL, Mr. Oliver was educated in the Lee County School System. He was employed by the Georgia Department of Labor, Rehabilitation Vocational Programs. He worked with the Lions Club as a guest speaker at many of their events. He was of the Baptist faith.
He is survived by his wife, Marsha Oliver; a son, Brandon Oliver and a daughter, Ashley Oliver, all of Worth County; his mother and stepfather, Reba and Ronnie Waddell of Chesnee, SC; his father and stepmother, Robert and Mary Oliver of Albany; three sisters, Anita Sullivan and her husband Roger of Leesburg, Tina Kibilko and her husband Ken of Worth County and Paula Oliver of Chesnee, SC; several nieces and nephews.
