ALBANY - John Allen Hightower, 89, died Friday, February 7, 2003, in Cleveland, Ohio.
The funeral service will be at 1:30 PM Saturday at Crown Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Dr. Thomas A. Downs officiating.
A lifetime resident of Albany, Mr. Hightower was a building contractor and land developer and owned and operated Hightower-Jones Development Company. Mr. Hightower was preceded in death by his wife, Jocelyn Hightower, who died April 20, 2002. He was the son of the late Earl Salter Hightower and Ethel Bush Ittner Hightower.
Survivors include two daughters, Joan H. Fountain of Shaker Heights, Ohio, and Judy H. Webb of Lakeland, FL; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6 PM - 8 PM today at Kimbrell-Stern.

ALBANY - Lawrence Lu-Cree Lewis, 32, of 1275 Cunningham Road, Apt. 801, Marietta, died Friday, February 7, 2003, at Cobb County Medical Laboratory in Marietta.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Bethesda Baptist Church with interment in the Roselawn Garden of Memory Cemetery on MLK Jr. Drive. The Rev. Felton Lamar will officiate.
A native of Albany, Mr. Lewis was born December 21, 1970. He was a forklift operator at Tyco Industries in Marietta. He was a 1988 graduate of Monroe High School and was a U.S. Army veteran. He was a member of First Bethesda Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Talya C. Baldwin-Lewis of Marietta; son, LaVante Lewis of Marietta; three daughters, Deandre Lewis of Albany, and Olivia Huntley and April Baker, both of Marietta; his father, John Lewis and stepmother, Ruby Lewis of Selma, AL; two brothers, Ronnie Jackson of Albany and Johnny Lewis of Selma, AL; three sisters, Carla Loud, Detra Lewis and Lisa Lewis, all of Albany; his grandparents, Ella Mae Jackson of Albany and Beatrice Love of Orlando, FL.
The family will receive friends and relatives at the home of his sister, Lisa Lewis, 1611 Sunny Lane, Albany, GA.

DAWSON - H.E. "Curly" Bacon died Wednesday, February 12, 2003, at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital.
The funeral will be held at 3 p.m. today at the graveside in Cedar Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Dick Gill and the Rev. Charles Leverett officiating.
Mr. Bacon was a native of Glennville, born September 25, 1924, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. James Ernest Bacon. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WW II, and received the Purple Heart Medal. He had been a resident of Terrell County since 1945, and was a retired employee with the U.S. Post Office in Albany.
He was an avid gardener and pet lover and leaves behind his little friends, Brandi, Miss G. and Prissy.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Jones Bacon of Dawson; a daughter, Dianne and husband, Randy Schramm of Dawson; two grandchildren, John Schramm of Tallahassee, FL, and Kimberley S. and husband, Andy Spivey of Waycross; and a great-grandchild, Claire Spivey of Waycross.
Memorials may be made to the Georgia Diabetes Research Foundation Inc., 1211 Whispering Pines Road, Albany, GA 31707.

He attended the public schools of Terrell County, GA.
He survived by the child he raised as his own, Shandra Johnson; two sisters, Patricia Peak (Charles) of Dawson, GA, and Bernice Weston (Johnny) of Orlando, FL; three brothers, Eugene, Larry, and Charlie, all of Orlando, FL; five nephews; three nieces; one very special niece, Dianne Irving and many cousins; three dear friends, Floyd Harris, Catherine Johnson and Martha Peak, all of Dawson, GA, and many sorrowing friends. He will also be greatly missed and loved by his family and friends.
