ALBANY - Wilfred Daniel "Bill" Holdren, 85, of Greenville, SC, formerly of Albany, died Thursday, February 13, 2003.
The funeral service will be held Saturday, 1:30 PM at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home. The interment service will be held Monday, 2 PM at Crown Hill Mausoleum Chapel in Albany. The Rev. Paul Gauntt and the Rev. Nancy Scarbrough will officiate.
He was born January 31, 1918, in West Virginia, son of the late William Daniel and Ella Vermillion Holdren.
Mr. Holdren was a retired Major in the US Marine Corps. He served his country fighting in the Pacific during World War II and in Korea. He was a decorated officer. After retiring from military service, he took a civilian job working for Firestone in Albany. He was an active member of several community organizations, including Kiwanis. Before moving to Greenville, he was an active member of Porterfield United Methodist Church and the Senior Sunday School Class. He attended Friendship Methodist Church in Greenville, SC.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Crystal L. Holdren; a daughter, Freda B. Hergner of Greenville; five granddaughters, Lori Allen and Melissa Evans, both of Greenville, Christy Parker of Greenwood, SC, Stacie Lane of Atlanta and Beth Kinney of Covington and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Susan H. Brymer.
The family will receive friends from 12:15 PM to 1:15 PM today at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home in Greenville, SC.

George W. Hughey Jr.
ALBANY - George W. Hughey Jr., 83, of Albany, GA, died Thursday (February 13, 2003) at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital following an illness.
The funeral service will be held today at 2 PM at St. Teresa's Catholic Church. The Rev. Finbarr Stanton will officiate. Interment Crown Hill Cemetery.
Born in Oil City, PA, on October 4, 1919, where he attended local schools, active in sports, school representative to the Rotary Club, member of the Dramatic Club and was Class President. Mr. Hughey enlisted in the Service in September 1939, and was stationed at a number of US Bases as well as the Panama Canal Zone and India-Burma Theater. In October 1942, Mr. Hughey was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant and was assigned to Turner Field. Mr. Hughey married the late Catherine Fleming in February 1943, who died December 7, 1993. Promoted to Captain in India and was there when the war ended in 1945.
Upon returning to Albany after being discharged in 1946, he became associated with Mount & Carter Accountants (now Mauldin & Jenkins). Later he moved to Albany Trust & Banking Company and was Vice-president and Cashier when the bank merged with the First State Bank (now Regions Bank) in 1961, where he was Executive Vice-President and a member of the Board of Directors and retired in that capacity after 34 years of service.
In 1950, along with Carl Neuman, they founded Hughey & Neuman Realtors and after his retirement he joined his son Bill in the Real Estate Sales and Management Services.
Mr. Hughey was a member of St. Teresa's Catholic Church and was initiated into the Order of Knights of Columbus in January 1939. He was a Charter Member and organizing member of the local Council 3607 Knights of Columbus and served as the 1st Grand Knight. He was also a member of the building committee of St. Teresa's School.
A Board member of Thronateeska Heritage Foundation, Albany Museum of Art, Albany YMCA (of which he was the first Catholic Board Member), Advisory Committee at Albany Junior College (now Darton College) and Georgia Independent Bankers Association. He is also a member of the Southwest Georgia Sportsman Club, life member of the American Legion Post 30, VFW Post #2785, Westville Historic Association and was quoted to grow the best blueberries and to be best fisherman in Albany.
Survivors include one son, George W. (Bill) Hughey III and his wife, Sharon of Albany; daughter, Kay Hughey Dunn and her husband David of Wellington, FL; four grandchildren, Katie Hughey and Callie Hughey, both of Albany, Kieran Dunn and Amy Dunn, both of Wellington, FL.

ALBANY - Regina S. Rosenberg, 98, of Albany died Friday, February 14, 2003, at Palmyra Medical Centers.
Her funeral service will be Sunday 3 PM at Oakview Cemetery. David Stern will officiate.
A native of Montgomery, AL, Mrs. Rosenberg moved to Albany in 1928, following her marriage to Joseph S. (Joe) Rosenberg. Prior to her marriage, she lived in Jacksonville, FL, and graduated from Duvall High School. She was employed at Rosenberg's from 1952-1978. She was the oldest member of Temple B'Nai Israel and a lifetime member of the Temple Sisterhood. Mrs. Rosenberg was a charter member of the Kiwanis Clinic League, now the Albany Charity League. She was active with the Albany Little Theatre, now Theatre Albany, creating and painting background scenes for plays. A gifted artist, she was commissioned to paint scenes for area plantations. Some of her work is displayed at the High Museum in Atlanta, and was displayed at the Georgia Governor's Mansion during George Busbee's tenure.
Survivors include her son, Ralph S. Rosenberg and his wife Pearl of Albany; three grandchildren, Robert Rosenberg of Albany, Richard Garber and his wife Sonya of Atlanta and Suanne Mallenbaum and her husband Stephan of Scarsdale, NY; two great-grandchildren, Zoelle Mallenbaum and Aaron Mallenbaum.
The family will receive friends at Kimbrell-Stern today from 6 p.m.-7 p.m.

COLUMBUS - Lottie Mae Reid Horton, 91, died Wednesday, February 12, 2003, at her home in Alpharetta, GA, after an extended illness. She was the widow of John E. Horton Sr., Columbus businessman. Though she had lived most of her adult life in Columbus, she was a resident of Alpharetta for the last 14 years.
Services will be held at Striffler Hamby Chapel at 3 p.m. Sunday. Officiating will be the Rev. Edwin Cooper and the Rev. Daryl Brown. Visitation will be 1 p.m.- 3 p.m. Sunday at the chapel. Interment will be at Park Hill Cemetery.
She was a homemaker and was known for her love of flowers. She was a member of Rose Hill United Methodist Church.
She is survived by three daughters, Gloria Claiborne of Tallahassee, FL, Mary Joyce Waltz of Brentwood, TN, and Brenda Tasker of Alpharetta, GA; and two sons, Larry Horton of Wiley, GA, and John E. Horton Jr. of Macon, GA; 17 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

UNADILLA - Graveside services for David Jacobs Jr., the one month old son of Lisa Lester and David Jacobs Sr. of Vienna, will be held Monday at 11 a.m. in Vienna City Cemetery. Jacobs died Thursday, February 13, 2003, in a Macon hospital.

DOUGLAS - Treva May Stephens Rupert, 67, of Hwy. 32 West, Douglas, GA, passed away Wednesday, February 12, 2002, at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany following an extended illness.
Mrs. Rupert, a native of Steuban County, NY, was born December 20, 1935, the daughter of the late Belmont Victor and Sarah Inschoe Stephens. She was the widow of Donald Oliver Rupert, a homemaker and a retired machine operator.
Survivors include a daughter, Darlene Mosely of Broxton; son, Darrell Rupert of Albany and Doyle Rupert of Folkston; sisters, Margery Washburn and Grace Mitchell of Wayland, NY; brother, Bernard Stephens of Wayland, NY; special friend, John Francis of Avoca, NY.

ALBANY - Martha Helen Lord Ashworth, 78, of 304 Third Ave., died Friday, February 14, 2003 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. The remains have been cremated.
A native of Albany, Ms. Ashworth had lived in Albany all of her life. She worked with Gateway Bookstore for 18 years and was the manager for many years. After retiring, she went to work with Wal-Mart and worked there for 11 years. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and the Hawk Sunday School Class. Ms. Ashworth enjoyed being around people. She never met a stranger because she was a friend to all.
Survivors include a daughter, Gaye Ashworth Brewster and her husband, Earl of Pleasant View, TN; two sons, James Richard "Dick" Ashworth and his wife, Donna of Ila, GA, Preston Rorer Ashworth and his wife, Sandra, of Alpharetta, GA; four grandchildren, Preston H. Born November 24, 1932 in Philadelphia, PA, Mrs. Sapp was a retired custodian with Dougherty County Government. She was a member of Victory Tabernacle Assembly of God. She also attended Philadelphia County Public Schools.
Survivors include four sons, Robert Sapp III of Washington, DC, Sylvester Sapp and Christopher Sapp, both of Albany and Alvin Sapp of Baconton; one brother, Ernest Butler of Philadelphia, PA; and 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
The remains of Mrs. Sapp will lie-in-state at the church on Monday from noon until the funeral hour.

SYLVESTER - Awin Oretta Young Walters, 85, passed away Friday, February 14, 2003, at Avante, Jacksonville Beach, FL.
Ms. Walters was born December 23, 1917 in Tift County, and lived in Sylvester until moving to Atlantic Beach, FL, to live with her daughter.
Ms. Walters was a member of First Baptist Church and Bykota Sunday School Class in Sylvester. She was employed by Deriso Drugs for many years and made many friends.
Family members include two daughters, Margaret Dow (Dave) of Kennewick, WA, and Patsy Carmichael of Atlantic Beach, FL; one sister, Sara Y. Ms. Walters' family will receive family and friends Monday, between 6 p.m.-8 p.m. at Banks Funeral Home. A celebration of her life will be at Banks Chapel on Tuesday, 11 a.m.. The Rev. W.M. (Bill) Carmichael will officiate. Interment will follow at the Hillcrest Cemetery.
