Mrs. Colorie Inez Williams, age 87, died on Thursday night at her residence under the care of Ogeechee Area Hospice after a short illness. She was a member of the Historical First African Baptist Church where she served on the Usher Board and the Pastor’s Aid Board. She retired from Georgia Southern College, now Georgia Southern University. She is survived by many cousins, Willie Lee Bush, Willie Odums, and Rosa Young, all of Savannah, Elease Dixon of Philadelphia, Penn., Eula Eskew of Buffalo, NY, Myrtis Leverette of Baltimore, Md., Mary Love of Augusta, Joanne Wilkerson and Thelma Prescott, both of Elizabeth, N.J. and Joe Wilkerson of Bluffton, S.C.; and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at the Historical First African Baptist Church with the Rev. Augustus Strong officiating. Burial will be in the Bulloch Memorial Gardens.

JESUP — Henry Jackson “H.J.” Westberry, 83, died Wednesday, February 5, 2003, in the Wayne Memorial Hospital. He was a Wayne County native, born on November 27, 1919, to Henry Jackson and Mary Deforest Rea Westberry. On August 3, 1941, he wed Marciene Perry of Cochran, who died on October 26, 2001. Mr. Westberry was a member of Spring Grove Free Will Baptist Church. In 1938, he graduated from Jesup High School, where he played on the famed 1936 football team. He attended Middle Georgia College, where he was a member of the first aeronautical class taught there. Along with his wife Marciene, he operated several small businesses, from a World War II laundry and dry cleaners to one of the area’s first convenience stores. He was instrumental in establishing Altamaha Convalescent Center (now Sunbridge). Mr. Westberry was a taxpayer advocate and active in local and state politics. He was an organizer and former assistant chief of the Jesup Fire Department and served as chairman of the Jesup-Wayne County Planning and Zoning Board. He has donated the use of H.J. Westberry Park to the City of Jesup. An avid sports fisherman, he also owned a commercial shrimp boat. He was predeceased by two sisters, infant Louise and Ethlyn W. Bell. Survivors include two daughters and a son-in-law, Mary Ruth and Troy Fore and Judy and the late Eddie Harper, all of Jesup; a son and daughter-in-law, Henry and Cyndi Westberry of Statesboro; two granddaughters, Holly Harper of Jesup and Candace Carter of Lansing, Mich.; four grandsons, Howard Fore of Atlanta, Andy Fore of Valdosta, Joey Harper of Jesup and Jackson Westberry of Statesboro; a niece, Mary Lynn LaMee of Jacksonville, Fla.; and a grand-niece, Ruth Lynn Shelton of Spring Lake, N.C. The funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at the Rinehart & Sons Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Felix Haynes officiating. Burial will be in Old Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Kenzie Tyre and all grandchildren. Visitation will be 6 -8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Mr. Ricky James Youngblood, age 44, died late Wednesday from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He was a native of Bulloch County and lived most of his life in Bulloch County. He was a truck driver and a 1977 graduate of Statesboro High School. He was a member of Register Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his father, Curtis Youngblood. Surviving are his mother and step-father, Clara Youngblood and Paul Brannen of Statesboro; two sons, Beau Hunter Youngblood and Justin Rhett Youngblood; one daughter, Tiffany Youngblood, all of Metter; one brother, Don Curtis Youngblood of Statesboro; one sister, Deborah Youngblood Roberson of Vidalia. The funeral services for Mr. Youngblood are incomplete and will be announced at a later date.

Priscilla Ann Mixon, age 29, died Wednesday at East Georgia Regional Medical Center. The native of New Britain, Conn., had lived in Statesboro for 20 years. She was a graduate of Lakeland High School in Lakeland, Fla. She was of the Catholic faith. Survivors include a son, Crosby-Drake Sellman; her parents, Leedell and Linda Mixon; one brother, Michael Mixon; two special nephews, Michael and Dylan Mixon, all of Statesboro; and several other nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Jake A. Futch Funeral Home Chapel with Jake A. Futch officiating. Visitation will be held Saturday beginning at 11 a.m. until the funeral hour. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Priscilla Ann Mixon Fund, 414 Northside Drive West, Statesboro, GA 30458.

The lifelong Screven County native was a member of Hurst Baptist Church and was a retired business owner. She was preceded in death by her husband, Cardell D. Griner Sr.; and her son, C.D. Griner Jr. She is survived by a daughter-in-law, Eunice C. Griner of Sylvania; one grandson, Don Griner of Statesboro; two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. The funeral service for Mrs. Griner will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in the Thompson-Strickland-Waters Chapel with Rev. Scott Krug officiating. Burial will be in Screven Memorial Cemetery in Sylvania. Pallbearers will be William Edward Lambert, Bobby Lambert, Marion Griffin, Robbie Griffin, Tommy Griffin, Dale Thompson, Louis Oglesby and A.L. Lambert. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Ruby C. Blizzard, age 83, died Tuesday at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Savannah. She was born in Jenkins County, but lived most of her life in Bulloch County. Mrs. Blizzard was of the Baptist faith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Newton Lavaughn Blizzard. Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Carole Blizzard of Claxton and Al and Sandra Blizzard of Tallahassee; five grandchildren, Lori Blizzard of Savannah, Brett Blizzard and Shannon Blizzard, both of Tallahassee, and Jennifer Blizzard and Jason Blizzard, both of Hinesville. The graveside service for Mrs. Blizzard will be held Thursday at 3 p.m. at the Millen City Cemetery with Dr. H. William Perry officiating.

His lifelong occupation was farming. He is survived by his wife, Christine Hendrix of Cobbtown; one son, Ira Hendrix Sr. of Cobbtown; four daughters, Dessie Lanier of LaGrange, Patricia Hendrix, Shirley Lanier and Mary Lawrence, all of Metter; two sisters, Mattie Geiger of Brooklet and Emma Austin of Statesboro; his mother-in-law, Elizabeth Collins of Cobbtown; 13 grandchildren, two sisters-in-law, three brothers-in-law and several other relatives and friends. The funeral service will be held 3 p.m. Wednesday at the W.H. Whitaker Memorial Chapel of Whitaker Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Hebron Cemetery in Cobbtown.

Mrs. Josie Sturdivant Mallard, age 94, died late Monday at the Moss Oaks Nursing Home in Pooler after an extended illness. The native of Burke County lived most of her life in Bulloch County where she was a homemaker. She was a past member of the Home Demonstration Club and also the sewing club. Mrs. Mallard was a longtime member of Emit Grove Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, I.O. Mallard; and a daughter, Joyce Mallard. Survivors include two daughters and one son-in-law, Hazel D. Wermuth of Seymour, Conn., and Barbara M. and Charles Futch of Bloomingdale; one sister, Henrietta Hillis of Augusta; one brother and sister-in-law, John Wesley and Peggy Sturdivant of Waynesboro; three grandchildren, Delores Gemignani of Milford, Conn., Louis Wermuth of Bridgeport, Conn., and Jennifer F. and her husband, Richard C. McCoy of Brooklet; three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. The body will lie in state at the church for one hour prior to the funeral service. The funeral service will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Emit Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Hubert Tankersley officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be deacons of Emit Grove Baptist Church, Jimmy Deal, Sonny Biser, Floyd Waters, James Pearce and Laurace Perkins.

Mrs. Madie Elizabeth Hadden Green, 79, died Wednesday at her home. The Candler Co. native lived several years in Jacksonville, Fla., before moving back to Metter in 1972. She worked several years for Hornes Candy Co., was a hairdresser for over 30 years and was a real estate investor in the Metter area. She was a member of the Metter United Methodist Church. She was the daughter of the late Claude Henry and Lottie Rinehart Hadden and was preceded by two brothers and three sisters. She is survived by her husband, David Colon Green of Metter; daughters and son-in-law, Tammie and Greg Strickland and April Greene, all of Metter; step-daughters, Charlene Hurt of Lexington, S.C., and Evelyn Hinton of Gary, Ind.; brothers, Leon Hadden Sr., Claude Ellis Hadden and Talmadge Hadden, all of Metter, and Simmons Hadden of Faulkville; sister, Ann Williams of Garden City; grandchildren, Heather Strickland, Sheldon McDaniel, Danielle Hurt, Nicholas Hurt, Gail Hinton, Sandy Hinton and Donnie and Ronnie Hinton. The funeral service will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at Metter United Methodist Church with Rev. Owen Williams and Rev. Charles Whatley officiating. Burial will be in the Lake Cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to funeral time. Visitation will be Thursday evening from 6-9 p.m. at Kennedy-Morgan Funeral Homes, Hooks Chapel.

Mrs. Doshia Cook Hitchcock, age 85, died early Monday at the Statesboro Nursing Home. She was a native of South Carolina, but had lived in Bulloch County since 1960. She was a teacher in the Bulloch County School System for many years. Mrs. Hitchcock was a member of Statesboro First United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. William Lawrence Hitchcock; and her brother, Howard Cook Jr. Surviving are one sister, Margaret Cook Stroud of Saluda, S.C.; one niece, Kim Hitchcock of Decatur; one nephew, Barry Hitchcock of Athens; one great-nephew, Christian Outzs, and one great-niece, Leigh Moore, both of Saluda, S.C.; two great-great-nephews and one great-great-niece. The graveside service for Mrs. Hitchcock will be held Thursday at 11:30 a.m. at Bulloch Memorial Gardens with Rev. Don Adams officiating. Visitation will be held Thursday from 10-11:15 a.m. at Hodges-Turner-Anderson Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Statesboro First United Methodist Church Building Fund, P.O. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilbur Bryant Sr. and Estelle Davis Bryant; and two brothers, Doy and Donald Bryant. VALLEY, Ga. — Madison Natalie Hendrix, age 18 months, died Tuesday morning at Duke University Hospital from complications following a bone marrow transplant for treatment of her infant leukemia diagnosis. Madison is the daughter of the Rev. Terry Hendrix, formerly of Statesboro, and Debbie Kerry Hendrix, formerly of Kingsland, Ga. Madison resided in Ft. Valley, Ga., with her parents where her father, Terry, serves as senior pastor at First Baptist Church. Surviving, in addition to her parents, are her paternal grandparents, Bruce and Mary Hendrix of Statesboro; maternal grandparents, Lesley and Jo Kerry of Kingsland, Ga., and Trevis and Sue Griggs of Lawrenceburg, Tenn.; maternal great-grandparents, Ernest and LaVerne Kerry of Kingsland, Ga.; several aunts and uncles, Marilyn Mixon of Statesboro, Tammie Hulett, Sheryl Funderburk and Kathleen Kerry, all of Kingsland, Rita and Elwood Thompson of Statesboro, Thomas and Kathy Hendrix of Statesboro, Mark Kerry of Kingsland, Julie Newsome of Santa Clara, Calif., Sheri Willis of Hillsboro, Tenn., and Brandi Horsley of Tullahoma, Tenn.; 18 first cousins also survive. The funeral service will be held Saturday at 5 p.m. at the Fletcher Memorial Baptist Church in Statesboro. Visitation will be held Friday from 6-9 p.m. at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home.
