SYLVESTER -- Gary Lamar Murphy Sr., 51, of 323 J.W. Wingate Road, died Tuesday, May 2, 2000, in Worth County. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 5, 2000, at Cobb Funeral Chapel with Pastor John Hansen officiating. Pallbearers will be David Warburg, Charles Moore, Michael Barnes, Gary Barnes, David Hall, Jerry Grimes Jr., Kelly Latterner and Billy Oliver. Born May 4, 1948, in Jacksonville, Fla., Murphy was a respiratory therapist at Phoebe Putney Hospital. He served in the 101st Airborne as a paramedic in the Army in Vietnam. Mr. Murphy was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Moultrie. His mother was the late Willa Mae Davis Murphy. Survivors include his wife, Debra Fate Grimes Murphy of Moultrie; his father, George Joseph Murphy of Jacksonville, Fla.; two sons, Gary Lamar Murphy Jr. and Eric Scott Murphy, both of Moultrie; two brothers, Dr. George J. Murphy III, of Old Hickory, Tenn., and Gregory Allen Murphy of Jacksonville, Fla.; and three grandchildren, Aston Nicole Murphy, Devan Scott Murphy and Leah Brooke Murphy. Visitation will be tonight from 7-8:30 p.m. at Cobb Funeral Chapel. Phoebe Putney Hospital will have a memorial service for Mr. Murphy at 9 a.m. Monday, May 8, 2000, in the West Auditorium on the ninth floor.

BERLIN -- Robert "Mose" Brown, 88, of 351 Railroad Street, Berlin, died Tuesday, May 2, 2000 in an automobile accident. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, May 7, 2000 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church of Pavo with the Rev. J.B. Stroughter officiating. Interment will be at the church cemetery. Casketbearers will be Jimmy Godfrey, Willie Wooten, John Haynes, Larry Robinson, Bryon Jordan and Warren Wiseman. Born March 27, 1912, in Hawkinsville, Mr. Brown was retired from Del Cook Lumber Company and a Baptist. He was the son of the late Robert and Annie Brown. A step-son, a brother, and two sisters preceded him in death. Survivors include his wife, Mealie Brown of Berlin; a son, Lacravien "L.J." Brown of Berlin; a daughter, Ethell Seay of Orlando, Fla.; children raised by him include Lila Mae Haynes, Johnny L .Haynes, Peggy Bell, all of Moultrie, Anges Lucas, Willie Wooten, both of Sparks, John Haynes, Teretha Haynes, Mary Ann Manning, all of Berlin, Tracy Cox, of Tifton, and Jeanette Wooten of Valdosta; many, many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and a devoted niece, Amelia Miller of Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Elmer Clyde Little
LYONS -- Elmer Clyde "Ace" Little, 70, died Sunday, Oct. 8, at Meadows Regional Hospital. Services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2000, at the Lyons First United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Mt. Moriah Cemetery. A native of Canton, Mr. Little was the son of the late Homer Jack and Mattie Little. He lived most of his adult life in Colquitt and Toombs Counties. He was a Korean War veteran. Upon graduation from Georgia Teachers College, he signed with the Cincinnati Red Legs, where he played baseball for two seasons. He completed a nineteen year coaching career with the Moultrie Packers, accomplishing a football coaching career of excellence with 82 wins, 18 losses and 2 ties. He was named coach of the year several times while in Moultrie. Ace was an active member of the First United Methodist Church, serving on the Administrative Board and various committees. He was a member of the Elks Club. He received a letter of commendation from President L.B. Johnson for saving a man's life in 1968. Upon moving to Toombs County in 1975, Ace became an active member of the Lyons First United Methodist Church. He served as principal of Lyons Middle School and Toombs County High School. Survivors include his wife, Betty "Jo" Collins Little, of Lyons; two sons, Clyde "Kyle" Little and wife, Roxanne Pierce Little, of Register, and Kirkland Joseph "Kirk" Little, of Lyons; four brothers and sisters-in-law, Junior and Leila Little and Hancel and Betty Little, all of Canton, and Edward Little and Lamar and Tommy Dee Little, all of Marietta; a sister, Jesse Holcomb of Holly Springs; a sister-in-law, Drew Little, of Marietta; a brother-in-law, Powell Collins and wife Joy, of Lyons; five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Rev. Michael Helms will officiate. Born Dec. 19, 1909, in Colquitt County, Mrs. Clarke was the daughter of the late Henry Davenport Woolard and Elizabeth Monk Woolard. She was a homemaker, a charter member of Trinity Baptist Church and a charter member of the Moultrie Federated Guild. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Charlie Campbell Clarke Sr.; a son, Charlie Campbell Clarke Jr.; a brother, Henry Earl Woolard; and two sisters, Gladys Florene Woolard and Louise Woolard Stevens.
