Allen J. Baldwin, 83, Peachtree City, died Dec. 8, 1998. He was born Sept. 18, 1915 in Staunton, Ill. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gwendolyn Brown Baldwin. Formerly of Watchung, N.J., he was well-known in Central New Jersey business circles as president and CEO of Nixon Baldwin Chemicals until his retirement in 1967. He farmed family land for 77 of his years, growing up with two brothers and three sisters in the Harps Crossing area on South Ga. Highway 92. During World War II, she drove a tractor hauling bullets, bombs and other supplies headed overseas as an employee with the Atlanta Ordinance Depot in the supply division. He was a business agent and lifetime member of Teamsters Local 528 and a member and deacon of Antioch Baptist Church. Services were held at Antioch Baptist Church with the Rev. Elton Johnson officiating, and the Spring Branch Baptist Church, Baxley. Interment was at the Carter Cemetery, Baxley. Survivors include his wife, Maxine Gayle Branch, Fayetteville; and children, Ellen and Larry Bolton, St. Cloud, Fla., Brent and Melissa Branch, Morrow, Ga., Lore Branch and John Adams, Spring, Texas, and Scarlette and Ricky Godwin, Forest Park, Ga.; and a brother, Benton (and Sandra) Branch, Eatonton, Ga. There are eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Memorial donations may be made to the Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery Restoration Fund, 110 Brooks-Woolsey Rd., Fayetteville, Ga., 30215. Carl J. Mowell & Son Funeral Home, Fayetteville, was in charge of the arrangements.

Mildren Payne McElwaney
Mildren Payne McElwaney, 79, Fayetteville, died June 20, 1998. She was born Feb. 21, 1919 in Winchester, Tenn. She was preceded in death by her husband, Homer Brice McElwaney. Services were held at the Carl J. Mowell Chapel, Fayetteville, with the Rev. Jerald Reid, officiating. Interment was at Hopewell United Methodist Church Cemetery, Tyrone. Survivors include her children, Donna Greer, Tyrone, Elizabeth Greer, Lithia Springs, Ga., Patsy Barrett, Palmetto, Ga., R. B. McElwaney, Covington, Ga., and Larry McElwaney, Memphis, Tenn.; and brothers, O. A. Payne, Covington, Ga., and A. G. Payne, Atlanta. There are 25 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Carl J. Mowell & Son Funeral Home, Fayetteville, was in charge of the arrangements.
