June Marian Wapshott Henson, 75, of Arnoldsville, passed away Saturday, October 20, 2001. A native of Worcestshire, England, Mrs. Henson was a daughter of the late William Daly and Doris Louisa Bennett Wapshott. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold J. Henson; a son, Geoffrey W. Henson; a sister, Yvonne Wapshott; and a brother, William C. Wapshott. Graveside funeral services will be held at 11 o'clock on Tuesday at Arnoldsville Cemetery with the Rev. Lem Clark officiating. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Judith and David Fleming, Winterville; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Michael and Ann Wapshott, Arnoldville, Derek and Margaret Wapshott, Folkston, England; a sister-in-law, Sue Wapshott, Weybridge, England; four grandsons; three great-granddaughters; one great-grandson; and one granddaughter in love, Laurie Lewis. Esco "Papa" Long, 88, of 405 Holman Avenue, died Friday, September 21, 2001 after a brief illness. Mr. Long was a native of Rabun County and had resided in Clarke County for the last 65 years. He was a retired brick mason, employed by the University of Georgia, and was a lifetime member of the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftsmen. He was a member of West End Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for many years and was affectionately known as "Papa" Long. Erica Jo Murray, 24, of 1615 White Oak Drive, died December 6, 2001. A native of Athens, Ohio, she was a daughter of Candace Stoffel of Statham and Dr. David Stoffel of Athens. A 1995 honor graduate of Cedar Shoals, and a 1999 honor graduate of the University of Georgia, she recently completed her Master's Degree from the University of Georgia. Mrs. Murray was the Choral Director at West Jackson Middle School for two years, and was currently employed with South Gwinnett High School, also as Choral Director. Locally, she was active with the Masters Hall Singers at the Georgia Center for Continuing Education and Vocal Ensemble. She was a member of Central Presbyterian Church, Athens and was preceded in death by her sister, Andrea Stoffel, in December, 1999. Memorial services will be held Monday, December 10, 2001, at 4:30 PM at Central Presbyterian Church. Dr. Robert Bohler, Jr. and Rev. Joe M. Hughes will officiate. Survivors in addition to her parents include a husband, Thomas Murray; and grandmother, Betty Rike of Paulding, Ohio. Mary Brooks Smith-Murray

Mrs. Mary B. Murray, 89, died October 19, 2001 at her home in Lexington. A native of Oglethorpe County, Lexington, GA, she was the daughter of the late Robert F. and Gladys Crawford Brooks and widow of Robert Hoke Smith. She married William G. Murray in 1990. She was preceded in death by her twin sister, Louise Brooks Brown, 2 brothers, Robert F. (Bobby) and Thomas Crawford Brooks. Mrs. Murray received her education at Meson Academy, Shorter College in Rome, GA and the University of Georgia. Music was her profession, having been a teacher of piano and a church organist for over sixty-five years. She willingly shared her talent whenever and wherever she could. Mrs. Murray was a member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, Oglethorpe County, The Kettle Creek Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution, Washington, GA and other heraldry organizations. She was the Chapter President of Historic Oglethorpe County, Inc., and served these organizations in many capacities. Mrs. Murray was an active member of Lexington Baptist Church, having joined this church in 1923. Since 1971, she has been the church organist and pianist, the year she and Mr. Smith returned to Lexington from Perry, GA to spend their retirement years. She was lovingly spoken of as "Mary Music". One of her many pleasures she enjoyed with her talent was the monthly visit to Quiet Oaks Nursing Home to play the piano and entertain the patients. She played in 1988 for the dedication of the building and there after every month. Mrs. Murray is survived by her husband, William G. Murray, a stepson, Gordon Murray, Astoria, OR, a brother and sister-in-law, C. Clifford and Olga S. Brooks, Crawford, GA, a sister-in-law, Amelia R. Brooks, Conyers, GA, several nieces and nephews, grand nieces and nephews. "Tup" as she was lovingly called, will always live in the hearts of her nieces and nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews. The funeral will be held at Lexington Baptist Church on Sunday, October 21, 2001 at 3:00 PM with The Revs. Harry Warren, George M. Hall, Jack Lindsay and Billy Tucker officiating. Interment will be in Clark Cemetery, Lexington, GA. Pallbearers will be grand nephews, Charles Simpson, Chuck Brooks, Bobby Cook, William F. Paine, Lynn Townsend, Brooks Brown, a dear cousin, Charles R. Crawford and a dear friend, Wade Grant. Honorary pallbearers will be Deacons of Lexington Baptist Church, members of the Coworkers Sunday School Class, members of the United Daughters of the Confederacy and members of the Kettle Creek Chapter Daughters American Revolution.
