Rev. Eugene Pettyjohn, 87, died September 30, 2001. A native of Walker County, he was a son of the late William Ephrim and Cora Ethel Strickland Pettyjohn and widower of Nell White Pettyjohn. A resident of this area since 1932, Rev. Pettyjohn was ordained as a minister at East Athens Baptist Church on June 12, 1949. He served as pastor at a number of Baptist churches, including Beaverdam, Moons Grove, Meadow (21 years) where he is currently a member and retired from Sandy Cross. He also served as associate pastor at a number of area churches, including Beech Haven. Rev. Pettyjohn was a retired mail carrier, having retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 1969 with 32 years of service. Funeral services will be Wednesday, October 3, 2001 at 2:00 PM at Lord and Stephens Chapel, EAST with Revs. Joe Dooley and Calvin Coile officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Memorial Park. Horace William Peck, 76, died November 25, 2001. A native of Oconee County, he was a son of the late Joseph Emory and Pearl Harper Peck and widower of Montine Ayers Peck. He was preceded in death by a sister, Hilda Miller and brother, Vernon Peck. Mr. Peck was retired from Eli Witt with 33 years of service. Following his retirement, he worked with K-Mart for several years. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII and was a member of Prince Avenue Baptist Church. Survivors include 2 daughters and son in law, Shirley Tiller of Forest Park and Viola and Frank Tiller of Athens; Son and daughter in law, Sam and Darlene Wilkes of Ponte Vedra, FL; Grandchildren and spouses, Wesley and Rita Tiller, Wanda and Tracy Johnson, Richard and Tara Tiller, Candy and Rick Casto, Kevin and Jennifer Tiller; great-grandchildren, Thomas Tiller, Rick Tiller, Taylor Johnson, Dylan Casto, Sydney Tiller and Scotty Phillips; Sister, Frances Hansford and several nieces and nephews. Flowers are optional. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 7:00 until 9:00 PM. Lord and Stephens Funeral Home, EAST in charge of arrangements.

John Lewis Williams, 77, died October 19, 2001. A native of Ogelthorpe County, he was a son of the late Albert and Annie Maude Veal Williams. He was retired from Seaboard Farms and was a U.S. Army veteran of WW II. Funeral services will be Monday, October 22, 2001 at 2:00 PM at Lord and Stephens Chapel, EAST with Rev. Buford Lockman officiating. Interment will be in Collier Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Bobby Wells, Michael Wells, Randall Wells, Doyle Green and Jeff Smith. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Mashburn Williams; 5 daughters, Patsy Chandler of Arnoldsville, Jean Wells of Winterville, Linda Weaver, Kathryn Rogers and Barbara Green, all of Colbert; Son, Ronnie Williams of Hull; Sister, Margaret Barber of Commerce and brother, Charlie Williams of Arnoldsville; 9 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday from 7:00 until 9:00 PM.
