Dwight Edward Agner, 62, died August 10, 2002.
A native of Continental, OH, he was a son of the late Edward Chester and Irene Viola Taylor Agner. He was vice president of Graphic Composition, Inc., a book design, production and typesetting company. He was an award winning book designer and proprietor of Press of the Nightowl, a Georgia private press. His priority interests were books, computers and classical music. He was an usher at Hodgson Hall. Mr. Agner was one of three founding members of Amalgamated Printers Association. He was also a member of Typocrafters, Athens Fine Printing and Book Arts Group, Printing Historical Association and American Printing History Association.
Memorial services will be Wednesday, August 14, 2002 at 4:00 PM at St. Gregory The Great Episcopal Church with the Rev. Porter Taylor officiating. Interment and a reception will follow at the church.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret Agner; daughter, Suzanne Coffman of Charleston, SC; son, Eric Agner of Baltimore, MD; sister, Bonnie Peterson of Phoenix, AZ and 2 grandchildren.

Rubye Irene Allen, 101, died November 21, 2002.
A native of Godfrey, GA, she was a daughter of the late Fletcher and Susanna Mooneyham Smith and widow of George P. Allen. She was a resident of Atlanta for over 66 years and was a schoolteacher in that area. She was a member of Grace United Fellowship, Atlanta, where she taught Sunday School for many years. Mrs. Allen was the former President of the Georgia Federation of Women s Club for a number of years.
Graveside services will be Saturday, November 23, 2002 at 11:00 AM at Greenwood Cemetery, Atlanta.
Survivors include nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

Eugene Anglin, 61, died January 12, 2002.
A native of Newton County, he was a son of the late Clarence J. and Frances Ozella McCullers Anglin. He had made his home in Winterville since 1971, where he served as a former city councilman. He was a U.S. Army veteran.
Private memorial services will be held.

Kelly Wood Anderson, 30, of 622 Crawford-Smithonia Road, died January 17, 2002.
A native of Clarke County, she was a daughter of Ola Wood of Watkinsville and Lawrence Wood of Watkinsville. She was a lifelong resident of this area and a member of Crawford Pentecostal Church.

Inez Arnold, 84, of 1127 Oconee Street, died January 21, 2002.
A native of Clarke County, she was a daughter of the late James Buford and Lelia Holcomb Dudley, and the widow of Bill Arnold. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Brandt Dudley and Buford Dudley, two sisters, Mary Mangham and Marjorie Haefke. She was a beautician for over forty years and was a member of East Athens Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 24, 2002, at 11:00 AM at the chapel of Lord and Stephens Funeral Home, EAST. Revs. David Shelley and Don Leaptrott will officiate. Interment will be in Evergreen Memorial Park.

Roger Alan Baruch, 49, died August 25, 2002.
A native of New York City, he was a son of Aileen Lee Baruch of Tampa, FL and the late James Joseph Baruch. He was a graduate of the University of Georgia School of Law, Athens, GA, and was an attorney with the Center For Prisoner's Legal Assistance, PC. Mr. Baruch was an avid cyclist.

A native of Fairfax County, VA, he was the son of Frederick Raymond and Dana Beals of Fairfax and Faye Arlene and Frederic Brick of Clifton, VA. He was a heavy equipment operator and of the Baptist faith.

Jacquelyn Elizabeth Benner, 66, died April 23, 2002.
Born in Starkville and raised in Newton, MS, she was a daughter of the late Jack F. Benner and Mary Helen Addy and stepdaughter of the late Ernest L. Addy. She had made her home in Hull since 1967. She was retired from the Environmental Protection Agency as a research lab technician with 20 years of service. While employed with EPA in research, she was a recipient of the Bronze Medal for meritorious service.

A native of Pickens County, SC, she was a daughter of the late Charlie Clifton and Lucille Smith Bennett and widow of William A. (Bill) Bearss. Mrs. Bearss attended Winthrop College, Rock Hill, SC. She was Past State President of Women of Georgia Power, member of Citizens of Georgia Power and Georgia Power Ambassadors and a volunteer with the Loran Smith Center for Cancer Support. She was a member of Central Presbyterian Church.

Clara McCannon Boggs, 83, of 61 Sam Woods Road, went home to be with her Lord, Saturday, March 23, 2002.
A native of Oglethorpe County, Mrs. Boggs was the daughter of the late Earl and Etta McCannon and was the widow of the Rev. Elmer Boggs. She retired from the restaurant business, where she operated Granny's Kitchen for a number of years. She was a member of Pentecost Holiness Church. She was preceded in death by 4 sisters, Thelma Cofer, Florie McCannon, Laura McCannon and Pauline Mathews; 3 brothers, Frank McCannon, Obie McCannon and Jim Tom McCannon.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, March 26, 2002 at 2:00 PM at Pentecost Holiness Church with the Revs. Tye Sorrow, Butch Roberts and Tom Arnold officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Tony was a graduate of Cedar Shoals High School and a member of First Assembly of God.

Bessie Chamlee Cabaniss
1936 - 2002
Bessie Harper Chamlee Cabaniss, wife of Emmet Overton Cabaniss, Jr., Stephens, Georgia, died Wednesday, January 23, 2002, in an Athens hospital. Mrs. Cabaniss was born May 28, 1936, in Sandersville, Georgia, to Rev. George Tilmon Chamlee and Lillie Archer Chamlee. Her maternal grandparents were James Harvey Archer and wife, Bessie Harper Archer of Hancock County, Georgia; her paternal grandparents were Tilmon P. Chamlee and wife, Alta Shelton Chamlee of Chattanooga, Tennessee.
Bessie grew up in Hancock County, and graduated from Sparta High School in 1954. She received in 1957 a Bachelor of Science in Education degree from Georgia State College for Women, Milledgeville. She taught school for six years in Fulton and Oglethorpe Counties, Georgia.
Bessie married Emmet Cabaniss June 17, 1962, at Balerma Baptist Church in Hancock County. Almost every year since that date this couple returned on or near their wedding anniversary to worship together at Balerma Baptist Church where she received her early Christian education. She spent consistent quality time in her life enriching her spiritual awareness.
Bessie had devotedly served her family, church and community. She served as church organist for 30 years, was a Master 4-H member, was a diligent visitor of the sick, was attentive to those in need, wrote local interest articles for newspapers, planned restoration projects, acquired horticultural skills and kept up with her extended family. She enjoyed being intellectually challenged and participated in continuing education. She was a helpmate for her husband's dairy business until his retirement; they graciously hosted many pleasant gatherings in their home and at the Lakehouse on their farm. Great was Bessie's delight in her children and grandchildren.
Services will be held at Maxeys Christian Church at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 26, 2002. Interment will follow at Sunset Cemetery, Maxeys, Georgia. Visitation will be from 6:00 until 8:00 PM on Friday, January 25, at Lord & Stephens Funeral Home, 4355 Lexington Road, Athens (706/546-1587). Clarence L. Carson, 87, died March 14, 2002.
A native and lifelong resident of Madison County, he was the son of the late Clyde Lee and Ossie Lee Wilder Carson. Mr. Carson was a retired farmer. He served as Director of Madison County Resource, Conservation and Development, was former chairman of Madison County ASCS Committee for several years, Past President of Farm Bureau, Trustee of Ila School and Former Democratic Committeeman. He was a member of Mt. Hermon Presbyterian Church for over 50 years, where he was an Elder and served as Clerk of Session.
Funeral services will be Sunday, March 17, 2002 at 2:00 PM at Lord and Stephens Chapel, Danielsville, with Rev. Tim Peek officiating. Interment will be in Ila Cemetery.

Tom Canolty, 61, died September 1, 2002.
A native of Alfordsville, IN, he is a son of Pauline Alford Canolty of Holiday, FL and the late Rex Canolty, former residents of Washington, IN. He was a U.S. Army veteran and a member of American Legion Post 0123 in Lexington, GA. Mr. Canolty received his Associates Degree from Chabot College and his BS from California State University, both at Hayward, CA. He received his teaching certificate in physical education for K through 12 from St. Mary's College in Moraga, CA. Mr. Canolty was retired Athletic Director for the California Medical Facility.

Mildred Kennon Carter
Mildred Kennon Carter, native of Oconee County and a longtime resident of Athens Georgia died following a long illness on January 12 at Alterra Healthcare of Smyrna, Georgia. She was preceded in death by her husband Hubert H. Carter and parents Clifford and Patti Kennon. She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Ken and Babs Carter of Oak Ridge, Tennessee and Dennis and Anne Marie Carter of Marietta, Georgia as well as grandchildren Leigh Carter of Marietta, Georgia, Jody Carter Jones and husband Rob of Savannah, Georgia, Daniel Carter and wife Diane of Knoxville, Tennessee and Emma and Hannah Carter of Marietta, Georgia. Also surviving are four great-grandchildren Chase, Catherine and Courtney Carter and Sam Jones as well as her sister Louise Kennon Crowe of Decatur, Georgia, sister-in-law Ruth V. Carter and brother-in-law Jake Guest of Athens and many cousins in the Kennon family.
She was a charter member of the Milledge Avenue Baptist Church and was a long time member of the sewing club , various church groups and Beechwood Garden Club. She and her husband joined with a special group of friends to form a club who called themselves The Soul Food Club.
Services will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2003, at 11:00 am at Milledge Avenue Baptist Church in Athens. Officiating will be Claude McBride and Edward Bolen. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 in The Gathering Room of the church. Graveside services will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park. Marion Chandler Coile, 77, died Monday, June 10, 2002.
Mr. Coile was born and lived most of his life in Winterville. He was a son of the late C. Spurgeon and Mattye C. Coile and preceded in death by a brother, Charles S. Coile, Jr. He is survived by a brother, W. James Coile (Lanell) of Franklin, TN; nieces and nephews, J. Scott Coile of Kingston Springs, TN, Stuart C. Coile of Nashville,TN, Sarah C. Galloway of Goodlettsville, TN, Candace C. Crosby of Douglasville, GA and Tim Coile of Madison, WI; Also survived by a great niece and great nephews and a host of cousins and friends.
Visitation with the family will be 7:00 - 9:00 PM Wednesday, June 12, 2002 at Lord and Stephens Funeral Home, 4355 Lexington Road, Athens. Graveside services will be 11:00 AM Thursday, June 13 at the Winterville Cemetery with the Reverend Claude McBride officiating.
Mary Colley
1927 - 2002
Hull, GA
Mary E. Colley, 75, died December 15, 2002.
A native of Clarke County, she was a daughter of the late Sam Oliver and Exie Strickland Bowles and widow of Walter Colley, Jr.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, December 17, 2002 at 11:00 AM at Lord and Stephens Chapel, EAST with Rev. Jamie Doster officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Shane Barber, Doug Barber, Charles Mauldin, Jeff Milner, Bobby Colley, Jr. and Brian Colley.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Jimmy Barber of Hull; sister, Dorothy Burrell of Hull; 2 grandchildren, Shane Barber and Lisa Hewell and 3 great-grandchildren, Brian Savage, Courtney Barber and Emilie Bedgood.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday from 7:00 until 9:00 PM.

D. A. "Doc" Crossley
1906 - 2002
DeRyee Ashton Crossley, 95, of 116 Sterling Drive, died Thursday, January 17, 2002.
A long-time resident of Brownsville, Texas, Mr. Crossley was a son of the late Charles A. Crossley and Ida-May DeRyee Crossley, and the widower of the late Eugenia Baird Crossley. A photographer and a fan of jazz music, Mr. Crossley was a former President of the Crippled Children's Society of Brownsville, and Associate of the Photographic Society of America, a Thirty-Five Year Monarch of Lions Club International, and a counselor for the Boy Scouts of America (Silver Beaver Award).
Memorial services will be held Saturday, January 19, 2002, at 2:00 PM at the chapel of Lord and Stephens Funeral Home, EAST. Dr. James E. Bowden will officiate.
Survivors include two sons, D. A. Crossley, Jr. of Athens, and Walter C. Crossley of Beaumont, Texas, and two grandchildren, Mary Crossley Freeman of Athens, and Guy W. Crossley of Beaumont, Texas.
The family will receive friends Friday from 7:00 until 9:00 PM at the funeral home.

Mary Hill Barnett Cunningham, 76, died October 27, 2002.
A native of Wilkes County, she was the daughter of the late Austin Hill and Mamie Claire Chapman Barnett and widow of William Tolliver Cunningham, Jr.
Mrs. Cunningham was a graduate of Washington, GA High School and the University of Georgia, where she was a member of Chi Omega Sorority. She taught school for the Oglethorpe County School System for 20 years. She was a homemaker and member of Lexington Baptist Church. Mary was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, October 30, 2002 at 2:00 PM at Lexington Baptist Church with Revs. Don Leaptrott and George Hall officiating. Interment will be in Clark Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Austin Barnett, Tom Barnett, Manning Brent, Chuck Brooks, Danny Daniel, Bill Hopkins, Henry Hopkins and Edd Lowe.
Honorary pallbearers will be Clifford Brooks, Billy Bryant, Joe Carey, Richard Cook, Dillard Hawkins, Meadow Maxey, Hamp McWhorter and George Spearing.
Survivors include 2 sons and daughters-in-law, William Tolliver and Katherine Kelly Cunningham of Marietta and Robert Barnett and Ellen Short Cunningham of Athens; sister, Claire B. Sutton of Washington, GA; brother, Robert C. Barnett of Aiken, SC; 5 grandchildren, Michael P. Cunningham, Ashley K. Cunningham, Jason T. Cunningham, William T. Cunningham and John L. Cunningham. Mrs. Cunningham was preceded in death by a brother, Austin H. Barnett.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM.
