MR. SIMS
Maysville Baptist member
MAYSVILLE - Tommy Joe Sims, 53, died Wednesday, March 14, 2001, at St. Mary's Hospital, Athens.
A native of Jackson County, Mr. Sims was born February 28, 1948. He was a son of Lucille McGinnis Sims, Maysville, and the late Billy Joe Sims.
Mr. Sims was a retired sheet metal worker and was a member of Maysville Baptist Church.
Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 16, in Sunrise Cemetery, Maysville, with the Revs. Brian Stowe, Larry Joe Wilbanks and Jordan Weldon officiating.
In addition to his mother, Mr. Sims is survived by his wife, Benita Carroll Sims, Maysville; two sons, Jacob Sims and Jason Sims, both of Maysville; one daughter, Joy Hardy, Commerce; one sister, Terry Wilbanks, Harriman, Tenn.; and one granddaughter.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.
Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, was in charge of arrangements.

MR. DAVIS
Faith Baptist member
MAYSVILLE - William Charles Davis, 64, died Saturday, March 17, 2001, at BJC Medical Center, Commerce.
A native of Jackson County, Mr. Davis was born March 18, 1936, a son of the late William Herschel and Carrie Ruth Deaton Davis.
He was a former employee of Valley Fresh, Talmo, and was retired from Con-Agra, Talmo. Mr. Davis was a member of Faith Baptist Church, Jefferson.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 20, in the chapel of Jackson Funeral Home, Jefferson, with the Rev. Jeff Langley officiating. Burial was in the Mountain Creek Baptist Church cemetery, Pendergrass.
Mr. Davis is survived by his wife, Agnes Davis; two sons, Gary Davis, Gainesville, and Michael Davis, Pendergrass; one sister, Lucille Murphy, Gainesville; one brother, Ray Davis, Braselton; and three grandchildren.
Jackson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

MR. BARNETT
Retired businessman
NICHOLSON - Jimmy Chester Barnett, 62, died Thursday, March 8, 2001, at Athens Regional Medical Center.
A native of Jackson County, Mr. Barnett was born November 2, 1938, a son of the late Chester A. "CA" and Onia Kesler Barnett.
He was a retired businessman and was a member of Antioch United Methodist Church.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 10, in the chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Rev. Dennis Kesler officiating. Burial was in the Antioch United Methodist Church cemetery.
Mr. Barnett is survived by his wife, Wilma Barnett, Nicholson; one daughter, Wanda Barnett David, Nicholson; one brother, Tommy Barnett, Nicholson; one sister, Emma Baerne, Nicholson; and one grandson, Jim David, Nicholson.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Georgia Diabetes Research Foundation, 1120 West Broad Ave., Suite A-1, Albany, GA 31707.
Little-Ward Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

MRS. THOMPSON
Born in Banks County
CORNELIA - Mrs. Joyce B. Thompson, 68, died Sunday, March 18, 2001, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center, Gainesville, following an extended illness.
Mrs. Thompson was born April 24, 1932, in Banks County, a daughter of the late Grady and Mattie Parr Barrett.
She was a homemaker and of the Holiness faith. Mrs. Thompson was preceded in death by a daughter, Diane Thompson.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 20, in the chapel of McGahee-Griffin & Stewart Funeral Home, Cornelia, with the Revs. Charles Hardy and Harvey Smith officiating.
Mrs. Thompson is survived by her husband, W.B. Doug Thompson, Cornelia; daughter, Michelle Thompson, Cornelia; daughter and son-in-law, Peggy and Bruce Payne, Cornelia; sisters, Betty Williamson, Cornelia, and Mildred Filyaw, Augusta; brothers, the Rev. Johnny Barrett, Union Point, James Barrett, Donnie Barrett, Bobby Barrett and Steve Barrett, all of Cornelia, Jimmy Barrett and Jerry Barrett, both of Baldwin, Billy Joe Barrett, Hollingsworth, and Terry Barrett, Mt. Airy; granddaughters, Brandy Pope, Cornelia, and Christy Payne, Atlanta; grandsons, Phillip Thomason, Lavonia, Corey Payne, Cornelia; great-granddaughter, Hannah Pope, Cornelia; great-grandsons, Christopher Lee, Blairsville, Dylan Shope and Hunter Payne, both of Cornelia, and Logan Thomason, Lavonia; and many nieces and nephews.
McGahee-Griffin & Stewart Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

MRS. CHAMBERS
Jackson County native
MAYSVILLE - Mrs. Doris Bennett Chambers, 57, died Monday, March 19, 2001.
Mrs. Chambers was born July 5, 1943, in Jackson County. She was a daughter of the late Bush and Maebell Harper Bennett.
Mrs. Chambers had been employed with Barrow Manufacturing Company and was of the Baptist denomination. She was preceded in death by her husband, H.C. Chambers.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 21, at Riverside Baptist Church with the Revs. Bill Manus and Charles Morrison officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Survivors include one son, David Chambers, Maysville; two daughters, Teresa Queen, Homer, and Susan Rylee, Gillsville; and four grandchildren, Brittany Queen and Chris Queen, both of Homer, and Blake Rylee and Kevin Rylee, both of Gillsville.
Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, was in charge of arrangements.

MRS. CARMICHAEL
Homemaker
CORNELIA - Mrs. Mildred Carmichael, 96, died Monday, February 19, 2001, at a private nursing facility.
Mrs. Carmichael was born August 7, 1904, in McFarland, W.Va., a daughter of the late David L. and Ellen Lemon Eddy.
She was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith. Mrs. Carmichael was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Carmichael, and a daughter, Earnesteen Davis.
Memorial services were held at 3 p.m. Saturday, March 10, from the Stateroom of McGahee-Griffin & Stewart Funeral Home, Cornelia, with Michael Shirley officiating.
Mrs. Carmichael is survived by three grandchildren, James Richard Davis, California, Judith Heenan, Florida, and David Davis, Cornelia.
McGahee-Griffin & Stewart Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

MR. BREWER
Clarkesville Mill retiree
CORNELIA - Telford William Brewer, 75, died Thursday, March 8, 2001, at his residence following an extended illness.
Mr. Brewer was born in White County on March 11, 1925. He was a son of the late Charlie Daniel and Mae Byers Brewer.
Mr. Brewer was retired from Clarkesville Mills and attended Level Grove Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 10, in the chapel of McGahee-Griffin & Stewart Funeral Home, Cornelia, with the Revs. Verner London and Terry Rice officiating. Burial was in Level Grove Cemetery.
Mr. Brewer is survived by his wife, Patsy Martin Brewer, Cornelia; daughters and sons-in-law, Lynell and Kenneth Wade, Cornelia, and Rebecca and Robert Gibson, Clarkesville; daughter, Vicki Vinson, Cornelia; sons, Charles Brewer, Gainesville, Donny Brewer, Demorest, and Frank Ridlehoover, Cornelia; brother, Roger Brewer, Fairborn, Ohio; sister, Jesse Ingram, Kannapolis, N.C.; grandchildren, Chad Wade, Jill Brewer, Cory Ridlehoover, Stewart Ridlehoover, Matthew Gibson, Trey Gibson, Tyler Vinson and Allyson Vinson; and a great-grandchild, Zachary Wade.
McGahee-Griffin & Stewart Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

MR. PETTYJOHN
U.S. Navy veteran
TALMO - James Robert Pettyjohn, 64, died Monday, March 19, 2001, at his residence following an extended illness.
A native of Jackson County, Mr. Pettyjohn was born March 11, 1937, a son of the late Claud and Estelle Buffington Pettyjohn.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served during the Korean Conflict, and was a retired plumber. Mr. Pettyjohn was a member of Talmo Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Charlotte Mae King Pettyjohn, a son, James Ronald Pettyjohn, and a brother, Paul Pettyjohn.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, March 22, at Talmo Baptist Church with the Rev. Jeff Burt officiating. Burial will be in Jackson Memorial Gardens, Commerce. Randy Gray, Theron Martin, Thomas Martin, W.A. Martin, Harold Pettyjohn Jr. and Leon Thompson will serve as pallbearers.
Survivors include two daughters, Mary Grogan, Talmo, and Lynn Potts, Jefferson; three sisters, Vivian Hepner, St. Paul, N.C., Evelyn Lewallen, Homer, and Doris Swanson, Atlanta; one brother, Harold Pettyjohn, Talmo; and five grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Talmo Baptist Church, P.O. Box 98, Talmo, GA 30575, or to Bethany United Methodist Church, 4659 Brockton Road, Jefferson, GA 30549.
The family was to have received friends from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Evans Funeral Home, Jefferson.

MR. AYERS
Former supervisor
FRANKLIN, N.C. - Tom Ayers, 66, of Franklin, N.C., died Friday, March 9, 2001, at his residence.
A native of Stephens County, Mr. Ayers was a son of the late Winston Ayers Sr. and Orphia Chandler Ayers.
He was a supervisor for 4-C's, with 42 years of service, and was the host of "Songs in the Night" at WRFR for seven years. Mr. Ayers was a very active member of the First Alliance Church of Franklin.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 11, at First Alliance Church of Franklin with the Rev. Doug Messer and Dr. Stan Messer officiating.
Mr. Ayers is survived by his wife of 23 years, Carolyn Jean Bradley Ayers; three daughters, Kim Camp, Kathy Brooks and Kimberly Brooks, all of Franklin, N.C.; three sons, Keith Ayers, Toccoa, Keith Brooks and Barry Moore, both of Franklin, N.C.; two brothers, Winston Ayers Jr., Mt. Airy, and Theron Ayers, Cornelia; and eight grandchildren.
Bryant Funeral Home, Franklin, N.C., was in charge of arrangements.
