HOMER - Mrs. Eva Payne, 82, died Wednesday, March 7, 2001, at BJC Medical Center, Commerce.
Mrs. Payne was born June 26, 1918, in Homer. She was a homemaker.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, March 9, in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Commerce. Burial was in Banks Memorial Gardens, Homer.
Survivors include five daughters, Jean Betty, Guynell Southerla, Mary A. Carlan and Janet Payne, all of Homer, and Carolyn Harris, Gillsville; one sister, Alleene Sanders, Homer; nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

MISS COVINGTON
Former medical laboratory technician
ATLANTA - Miss Cleo Eugene Covington, formerly of Jefferson, died Thursday, March 8, 2001, at Crawford W. Long Medical Center following a brief illness.
A native of Jackson County, Miss Covington was a daughter of the late Lee W. and Beuluh Estelle Adams Covington.
She had worked as a medical laboratory technician for 50 years and was a member of the First Seventh Day Adventist Church, Atlanta. Miss Covington was preceded in death by three sisters, Inez Crocker, Mildred Covington and Gertielou Marlow, and a brother, Hoke Covington.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 10, in the chapel of Evans Funeral Home, Jefferson, with the Rev. Taylor officiating. Burial was in Jackson Memorial Gardens, Commerce. Lee Crocker, Mark Crocker, Jeff Gower, Bobby Gower, Buster Covington, Al Davis, Scott Mitchell and Horace Covington served as pallbearers.
Survivors include one sister, Willo Nell Blackstock, Jefferson; three brothers, J.C. Covington, Jefferson, Ralph Covington, Homer, and Horace Covington, Conyers; and several nieces and nephews.

MR. HOLCOMB
Detention officer
WINDER - Jimmy "Mario" Holcomb, 43, died Friday, March 9, 2001.
Born in Fulton County, Mr. Holcomb was a son of the late Virgil and Ann Day Holcomb.
He had resided in Barrow County for the past 11 years and was employed as a detention officer with the Barrow County Sheriff's Department. Mr. Holcomb was a member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, Flowery Branch. He was preceded in death by a sister, Raenell Holcomb.
Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Tuesday, March 13, in the chapel of Carter Funeral Home, Winder, with the Revs. Carroll Pruitt and Robbie Black officiating. Burial was in the Hoschton City Cemetery.
Survivors include daughter, Tiffany Holcomb, Winder; sisters and brothers-in-law, Lera and Jim Dorsey, Hoschton, and Shirley and Bobby James, Winder; sister, Jean Holcomb, Braselton; brothers and sisters-in-law, Wayne and Edwinna Holcomb, Homer, and Tony and Julie Holcomb, Statham; brothers, Ronald Holcomb and Donald Holcomb, both of Hoschton, Joseph Holcomb, Hollywood, and Jerry Holcomb, Braselton; nephew, Danny Joe Holcomb, Hoschton; and a number of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

COMMERCE - Mrs. Pauline Hix Lord, 87, died Friday, March 9, 2001, at the University Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
A native of Madison County, Mrs. Lord was born February 1, 1914, a daughter of the late Joseph Carlton and Sara Martin Hix.
She was retired from Commerce Sportswear and was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church. Mrs. Lord was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar Lord.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 11, in the chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Rev. Brad Wilson officiating. Burial was in Grey Hill Cemetery, Commerce.
Mrs. Lord is survived by one son, Mike Lord, Commerce; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

COMMERCE - Michael Rogers Austin, 46, died Wednesday, February 28, 2001, at his residence.
Mr. Austin was born December 24, 1954, in Jackson County, a son of the late Dewey W. and Willie Mae Akins Austin.
Mr. Austin was employed as a welder and was a member of Little Country Church.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 3, at Little Country Church with the Rev. Jimmy Owensby officiating. Burial was in Howington Cemetery, Nicholson.
Mr. Austin is survived by his wife, Linda Faye Motes Austin, Flowery Branch; two daughters, Kara Austin, Winder, and Mandy Austin, Jefferson; four step-sons, John Davidson, Winder, Michael Davidson, Danielsville, Ray Jones, Flowery Branch, and Jason Smith, Trion; seven brothers, Billy Austin, Hull, Filix Austin, Jefferson, Jeffery Austin, Statham, Kimsey Austin and Leon Austin, both of Danielsville, and Pete Austin and Sonny Austin, both of Commerce; three sisters, Elizabeth Easterwood, Vero Beach, Fla., Gail O'Kelly, Commerce, and Mildred Whitlock, Danielsville; and five step-grandchildren.

MR. ELLARD
Partner in Adams, Ellard & Frankum law firm
CORNELIA - Glenn Wilson "Jack" Ellard, 88, died Tuesday, March 6, 2001, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center, Gainesville, following an extended illness.
A life-long resident of Habersham County, Mr. Ellard was a son of W.B. Ellard and Ida Melissa Franklin Ellard.
A 1929 graduate of Cornelia High School, he attended Piedmont College from 1931 to 1933 and received his law degree from the University of Georgia in 1935. Mr. Ellard joined the U.S. Army in March of 1942 as a private, served as an artillery officer in World War II and rose to the rank of captain before receiving an honorable discharge at Fort Bragg, N.C., in 1946. He served as provost marshall in post-war Germany.
In the fall of 1946, Mr. Ellard and John E. Frankum formed the law firm of Frankum and Ellard in Clarkesville. The firm merged with the practice of Jack F. Adams in June of 1973 and still exists today as the law firm of Adams, Ellard & Frankum, P.C.
In November, 1946, Mr. Ellard married
Edna Mae Kemmish Reeves and they took up residence in Cornelia.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Cornelia, where he served as a deacon, and was a member of Kiwanis, Phi Delta Phi, Phi Kappa Phi and the Gridiron Society. He was also a Mason and Shriner, and had received many awards recognizing his service to his community.
Through his continued law practice with the firm of Adams, Ellard & Frankum, P.C., Mr. Ellard continued his community service until February 2001.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 8, at the First Baptist Church of Cornelia with Dr. T. Logan Smith and the Rev. Richard Scoggins officiating. Burial was in Level Grove Cemetery.
Mr. Ellard is survived by his wife, Edna, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Harley Dockery Jr.
Harley Dockery Jr., 43, of Comer, died Sunday, March 18, 2001.
Mr. Dockery was born March 14, 1958, a son of Mae L. Frady, Hull, and the late Harley Dockery Sr.
He was employed with Con-Agra Poultry, Athens.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 21, in the chapel of Pruitt Funeral Home, Royston, with the Revs. Robert Garrett and Jamie Doster officiating. Burial was in Bowers Memorial Gardens, Canon.
Survivors, in addition to his mother, include one son, Roger Thomas Dockery, Comer; one daughter, Linda Herring, Hull; step-father, Robert Frady, Hull; one brother, Martin L. Dockery, Danielsville; two sisters, Wanda King, Royston, and Velma Stewart, Danielsville; and five grandchildren.

E. Bagwell
The Rev. Milton Ernest Bagwell, 58, of Danielsville, died Thursday, March 15, 2001, at his residence.
Mr. Bagwell was born February 4, 1943, in Madison County. He was a son of the late Willie Ernest and Hattie Ruth Alford Bagwell.
The Rev. Bagwell had worked for the University of Georgia Public Safety Division and retired from the Athens Clarke County Police Department as lieutenant commander of services division, and also worked in the homicide division. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran, a graduate of the University of Georgia and the Georgia Bible Institute with a seminary degree.
The Rev. Bagwell served Hannah's Creek Baptist Church, Madison County, Rice Creek Baptist Church, Franklin County, Bethel M Baptist Church, Madison County, and Faith Baptist Church, Elbert County.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 18, at Friendship Baptist Church with the Revs. Dayton Logan, Ray Jenkins, Barry Black and Don Mulkey officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Deacons from Faith Baptist Church served as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were deacons from former pastorates and police officers of police department in uniform and court officials.
The Rev. Bagwell is survived by his wife, Carolyn Kellum Bagwell, Danielsville; one son, the Rev. David L. Bagwell, Royston; one daughter, Jackie Griffeth, Danielsville; two sisters, Louise Smith, Danielsville, and Dessie Lee Jarrard, Jefferson.

Eugene Daniels
Eugene Daniels, 47, of Commerce, died Friday, March 16, 2001.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, March 22, at Tabors Chapel Church, Ila, with the Rev. Morris L. Colvin Sr. officiating.
Mr. Daniels is survived by four sisters, Ruby Lee Newton, Lizzie Almond, Nezzie Carpenter and Madge Waller; three brothers, Mathew Daniels, James Daniels and LJ Daniels; and a host of other relatives and friends.
The family was to have received friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Mason Funeral Home, Commerce.

H.D. Cohran
Homer Duncan Cohran, 77, of Danielsville, died Tuesday, March 20, 2001, at Emory University Hospital, Decatur.
Mr. Cohran was born in Paulding County on July 5, 1923. He was a son of the late James Chester and Lena Harper Cohran.
Mr. Cohran was a retired Railroad L & N switch foreman and attended Freedom Fellowship Church in Austell. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served during World War II, and was a member of the American Legion Post #264 in Mableton.
Mr. Cohran was preceded in death by a son, Donald Gerald Cohran.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, March 22, in the chapel of Pruitt Funeral Home, Royston, with the Rev. Bob Neal and Layman Chip Cohran officiating. Burial will be in the Jones Chapel United Methodist Church cemetery. Kenneth Phillips, Jim DeLoach, Jerry Hendrix, Trevor Cole, Lee Sartain and Darrell Sartain will serve as pallbearers. Sammy Gordon will serve as honorary pallbearer.
Mr. Cohran is survived by his wife, Adeline Amanda Sartain Cohran, Danielsville; one son, Henry Chester "Chip" Cohran, Dallas; one daughter, Debra Lena Hernandez, Mableton; two brothers, George Cohran, Paulding County, and Hugh Cohran, Lithia Springs; two sisters, Allie Rice, Lithia Springs, and Betty Head, Douglasville; and six grandchildren.
The family was to have received friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
