Mrs. Barbara B. Howard, 69, of Athens, died Thursday, March 22, 2001.
A native of Fulton County, Mrs. Howard was a daughter of the late Bruce and Frances Powell Bullock.
She was retired as a bookkeeper from Adams Transfer and Storage Co.
Services were held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 24, in the chapel of Lord & Stephens Funeral Home, East, with the Rev. John W. Ingham officiating.
Mrs. Howard is survived by her husband, Dave Howard, Ablemarle, N.C.; one daughter, Debbie H. Lafferty, Carlton; two sons, David E. Howard, Bogart, and Daniel Y. Howard, Dublin; grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Gloria J. Johnson
Mrs. Gloria J. Johnson, 42, died Tuesday, March 20, 2001.
A native of Clarke County, Mrs. Johnson was a daughter of Leroy and Sarah Dowdy, Athens.
She was a 1977 graduate of Clarke Central High School and a 1979 graduate of Athens Technical School.
Memorial services were held at 3 p.m. Saturday, March 24, at Campus View Church of Christ with Brother Waymon Dowdy officiating.
Survivors, in addition to her parents, include her husband, Terence Johnson Sr.; two sons, Terence Johnson Jr. and Tremayne Johnson, both of Athens; and six brothers, Farris Dowdy, Stanley Dowdy and Jerome Dowdy, all of Athens, Anderson Dowdy, Colbert, Wymon Dowdy, Clovis, N.M., and Wayne Dowdy, Stone Mountain.

Martha B. Childs
Mrs. Martha B. Childs, 72, Loganville, died Friday, March 23, 2001.
A native of Jackson County, Mrs. Childs was a daughter of the late Leonard and Daisy Hammond Brown.
She worked as a nurse's assistant with Walton Medical Center and Northeast Georgia Medical Center and later was co-owner of Child's Shoe Shop. Mrs. Childs was a member of Loganville First Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dewey R. Childs.
Funeral services were held at 2 pm. Monday, March 26, in the chapel of Arthur Bowick Funeral Home, Monroe, with the Revs. Russell Davis, Rusty Ruark and Andy Childs officiating. Burial was in Hill Haven Memory Gardens.
Survivors include one daughter, Delores C. Atha, Loganville; three sons, Randall Childs and Butch Childs, both of Monroe, and Larry Childs, Grayson; two sisters, Alma Kittle, Bogart, and Lizzie Kittle, Athens; one brother, Willie Brown, Ila; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Melvin G. Dixon
Melvin G. Dixon, 75, of Athens, died Thursday, March 22, 2001.
A native of Clarke County, Mr. Dixon was a son of the late Arthur L. and Hattie Strickland Dixon.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Battle of the Bulge. Mr. Dixon retired from Ivy-Coile Motors, with 20 years of service, and was a member of Edwards Chapel Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 24, in the chapel of Bernstein Funeral Home, Athens, with the Rev. Jack Segars officiating. Burial was in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mr. Dixon is survived by his wife, Mildred Loyd Dixon, Athens; daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Jim Escoe, Colbert; brother, Arthur L. Dixon Jr., Athens; sister, Annie Ruth Culp, Athens; grandchildren, Kim Gregory, Winder, Kay Lewis and Jim "Rowdy" Escoe Jr., both of Colbert; and four great-grandchildren.

Mitchell D. Cleghorne
Mitchell David Cleghorne, 65, of Danielsville, died Sunday, April 1, 2001.
Mr. Cleghorne was born in Madison County, a son of the late Lester Mitchell Cleghorne and Seney Patton Cleghorne.
He was retired from Alps Tire & Service, with 33 years of service, and was of the Baptist denomination.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 4, in the chapel of Brown Funeral Home, Danielsville, with the Rev. Tony Lee officiating. Burial was in Colbert Cemetery. Sam Cleghorne, Tom Cleghorne, Mike Cleghorne, Billy Cleghorne, Jeff Dillard and Gerald Cleghorne served as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were John Cleghorne, Allen Collins, Henry Smith, Scott Cleghorne, Matt Cleghorne, Ryan Cleghorne and Mike Cleghorne.
Mr. Cleghorne is survived by his wife, Jimmie Patterson Cleghorne; daughter and son-in-law, Michelle and Jeff Dillard, Danielsville; sons and daughters-in-law, Sam and Theresa Cleghorne, Comer, Tom and Pam Cleghorne, Athens, Mike and Kay Cleghorne, Danielsville, and Billy and Vicki Cleghorne, Loganville; sister and brother-in-law, Jackie and Roy Perry, Taylors, S.C.; father and mother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Collis Patterson; seven grandchildren, Scott, Matt, Ryan, Samantha, Katrina and Kristalyn Cleghorne and Brandy Cash; and one great-grandchild, Dakota Cash.

Lloyd D. McElreath
Lloyd Darrell McElreath, 46, of Danielsville, died Tuesday, March 27, 2001.
Mr. McElreath was born April 19, 1954, a son of the late Robert Hoyle and Geraldine Sexton McElreath.
He was a member of Community Baptist Church. Mr. McElreath was preceded in death by a brother, Robert D. McElreath.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 30, at Community Baptist Church. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Survivors include two daughters, April Griffeth, Colbert, and Ashley McElreath, Danielsville; two brothers, Jerry McElreath and Dwayne McElreath, both of Danielsville; and one sister, Diane McElreath Strickland, Danielsville.

Mary Flanagan
Mrs. Mary J. Flanagan, 78, of Hull, died Tuesday, March 27, 2001.
A native of Tiger, Mrs. Flanagan was a daughter of the late Jarvis and Cleo Shed.
She worked for Athens Community Council on Aging for a number of years and was a member of Sonlight Baptist Church. Mrs. Flanagan was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest E. Flanagan.
Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Friday, March 30, in the chapel of Lord & Stephens Funeral Home, East, Athens, with Dr. Buhl Cummings and the Rev. Dan Corbett officiating. Burial was in Athens Memory Gardens. A.T. Shed Jr., David McCannon, William Butler, Nathan Palmer, Mike Harris and Jack Bamford served as pallbearers.
Survivors include two daughters, Betty Hair, Fort Drum, Fla., and Patsy McCannon, Athens; three sons, Marvin F. Flanagan, Crawford, Tommy Flanagan, Hull, and Donnie Flanagan, Statham; two sisters, Silvia Aaron, Crawford, and June Nixon, Athens; 15 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

Irene K. Boren
Mrs. Irene Katie Boren, 82, of Athens, died Saturday, March 31, 2001.
Mrs. Boren was born September 11, 1918, in Georgia. She was a daughter of the late Mac C. and Bertha Louise Murphy Boren.
Mrs. Boren was a homemaker.
Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 1, in Gillsville cemetery with the Rev. Terry James officiating.
Mrs. Boren is survived by a brother, Robert Boren, Danielsville.

James M. Martin
James Melvin Martin, of Hull, died Thursday, March 29, 2001.
A native of Oglethorpe County, Mr. Martin was a son of the late J.C. and Avis Carter Martin.
He was retired from Westinghouse and was a member of the Church of Christ. Mr. Martin was preceded in death by a daughter, Joy Martin.
Graveside services were held at 3 p.m. Saturday, March 31, in Winterville City cemetery with the Rev. Jay Ragsdale officiating.
Mr. Martin is survived by his wife, Henrietta Tucker Martin, Hull; sons and daughters-in-law, Tal and Judy Martin and Charles and Jean Martin, all of Hull, and Mickey and Mary Beth Martin, Winterville; daughters and sons-in-law, Susan and Franklin Daniels, Danielsville, and Shyron and Jim Ivey, Athens; nine grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

Samuel L. Sartain
Samuel Lee Sartain, 74, of Danielsville, died Tuesday, March 27, 2001.
A native and lifelong resident of Madison County, Mr. Sartain was a son of the late and Samuel Lee Sartain Sr. and Ina Mae Martin.
He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during World War II, and had worked as a building contractor.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 31, in the chapel of Lord & Stephens Funeral Home, Danielsville, with the Revs. Albert Vaughn and Ray Jenkins officiating.
Mr. Sartain is survived by his wife, Sarah Haggard Sartain; two daughters, Brenda Zareie, Lawrenceville, and Barbara Fogg, Ila; two sons, William Lee "Bill" Sartain and Barry Edison Sartain, both of Ila; one sister, Ruth Sartain Gordon, Danielsville; two brothers, Max Sartain, Danielsville, and Neal Sartain, Clayton; 10 grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
