ATHENS - Mrs. Amy Phillips, 89, died Friday, March 23, 2001.
A native of Jackson County, Mrs. Phillips was a daughter of the late William and Sally Garrison Lay.
She was a housewife and was a member of Dry Pond United Methodist Church. Mrs. Phillips was preceded in death by her husband, John Frank Phillips.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 25, at Dry Pond United Methodist Church with the Rev. Edwin Smith officiating.
Survivors include one sister, Sara Lay, Athens; and nieces and nephews.

MRS. IRVIN
Homemaker
BRASELTON - Mrs. Doris Baird Irvin, 83, died Friday, March 16, 2001, at Gwinnett Medical Hospital following a short illness.
A native of Jackson County, Mrs. Irvin was a daughter of the late James Baird and Sarah Reynolds.
She was a homemaker and was a member of Zion Baptist Church, Braselton. Mrs. Irvin was preceded in death by her husband, Henry J. Irvin, two brothers, James T. Baird and Ira Lee Baird, and five sisters, Estelle Hall, Mazelle Holland, Cora Bell Stover, Ludie Adams and Mildred Baird.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 18, at Zion Baptist Church with the Revs. Mike Phillips and Kenneth Brewer officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Survivors include three sisters-in-law, Lourene Baird and Eulene Baird, both of Braselton, and Naola Baird, Gainesville; and many nieces and nephews.

MR. PITTMAN
U.S. Air Force veteran
NICHOLSON - Henry Grady Pittman, 66, died Wednesday, March 28, 2001, at his residence.
Mr. Pittman was born January 30, 1935, in Jackson County, a son of the late Theo and Pauline Seagraves Pittman.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and was retired from Dairy Pak. Mr. Pittman was a member of Madison Street Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Friday, March 30, in the chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Revs. Darrell Dale and David Harbin officiating. Burial was in the New Harmony Baptist Church cemetery.
Mr. Pittman is survived by his wife, Beverly Dean Matthews Pittman, Nicholson; two sons, Matthew Pittman and Phil Pittman, both of Winder; two daughters, Tara Hembree, Nicholson, and Deborah Jarrard, Hull; one sister, Hazel Lester, Nicholson; six grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

MR. WILEY
Coach, teacher
BRASELTON - Coach Terry Wiley, 54, died Monday, April 2, 2001, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center, Gainesville.
Mr. Wiley was born November 22, 1946, a son of Jerome Wiley, Winder, and the late Marie H. Wiley.
He was a 1964 graduate of Winder Barrow High School and a 1969 graduate of Georgia Southern College. Mr. Wiley began his teaching career in Winder, and from 1971 to 1975 taught and coached at Johnson High School, Hall County. He also taught and coached for the Winder Barrow School System from 1976 to 1999.
Mr. Wiley was a member of Hoschton United Methodist Church and the Masonic Lodge #333. He was also a Shriner.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 4, at Hoschton United Methodist Church with the Revs. Jon Herrin and Darrell McGinnis officiating. Burial was in the Hoschton City Cemetery.
Survivors, in addition to his father, include his wife, Susan Wiley, Braselton; one son, Brian Wiley, Alto; one daughter, Mariah Wiley, Braselton; one brother, Bobby Wiley, Winder; and one sister, Marcia Smith, Winder.

MR. CRUNKLETON
U.S. Army veteran
COMMERCE - James M. Crunkleton, 82, died Saturday, March 31, 2001, at his residence.
Mr. Crunkleton was born September 7, 1918, in Rabun County. He was a son of the late Joseph H. and Lilly Mae Wall Crunkleton.
Mr. Crunkleton was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during World War II and the Korean Conflict. He had been employed as a salesperson and was of the Baptist denomination.
Memorial services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 3, in Whitlock Chapel.
Mr. Crunkleton is survived by his wife, Eleanor Artemis Pappas Crunkleton, Commerce; two sons, Robert J. Crunkleton, Orlando, Fla., and Wayne Crunkleton, Silver Spring, Md.; one daughter, Penelope Crunkleton, Silver Spring, Md.; one brother, J.H. Crunkleton, Tiger; and one sister, Lauren Cabe, Tiger.

COMMERCE - Mrs. Johnnie McElroy Anderson, 85, died Thursday, March 29, 2001, at Crystle Springs Nursing Home.
A native of Banks County, Mrs. Anderson was born May 7, 1915, a daughter of the late Albert Benton and Mary Elizabeth Carson McElroy.
She was a homemaker and was a member of Beaverdam Baptist Church. Mrs. Anderson was preceded in death by her husband, Aubrey Currie Anderson.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 31, at Beaverdam Baptist Church with the Revs. Marshall Smith and Chad Payne officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Survivors include one step-son, Bill Anderson, St. Petersburg, Fla.; one step-daughter, Ann Urbanski, Tampa, Fla.; one brother, Felix McElroy, Athens; one sister, Roberta Sparks, Commerce; and eight grandchildren.

Jackson County native
COMMERCE - Lenward L. Minish, 77, died Sunday, April 1, 2001, at his residence.
Mr. Minish was born November 28, 1923, in Jackson County, a son of the late Foster and Lottie Richey Minish.
He was retired from the auto business and was of the Baptist denomination.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 3, in the chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Rev. Swayne Cochran officiating. Burial was in Grey Hill Cemetery, Commerce.
Mr. Minish is survived by his wife, Margaret Lord Minish, Commerce; two sons, Dennis Minish, Commerce, and Sam Thurmond, Maysville; five daughters, Linda Hendrix and Cynthia Sorrow, both of Commerce, Cathy Minish, Gainesville, Dianne Mooney, Huntland, Texas, and Linda Kay Reed, Sumitt, Utah; one brother, Columbus O. Minish, Charles City, Va.; 13 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

GAINESVILLE - Mrs. Iris I. Wright, 83, died Wednesday, March 28, 2001, at New Horizon West Nursing Home.
A native of Jackson County, Mrs. Wright was born April 29, 1917. She was a daughter of the late Marion H. and Sadie Pressley Ivie.
Mrs. Wright was a homemaker and was of the Baptist denomination. She was preceded in death by her husband, J W Wright, two sisters, Irene Bowles and Inez Leachman, and two brothers, Ernest Ivey and Elbert Ivey.
Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 31, in Jackson Memorial Gardens, Commerce, with Dr. Gerald Mitton officiating.
Survivors include one daughter, Faye Bauman, Summerville, S.C.; one son, Dennis Wright, Gainesville; two sisters, Cora Aldredge and Myrtice Pendley, both of Sharpsburg, formerly of Gainesville; one brother, Ed Ivey, Gainesville; sisters-in-law, Lois Edwards and Reba Mathis, both of Jefferson; four grandchildren, Alan Bauman, Lakeworth, Fla., Andrew Bauman, Summerville, S.C., Carl Wright, Statesboro, and Ivey Wright, Boone, N.C.; two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

MR. MARTIN
World War II veteran
MACON - George Martin, a World War II veteran and native of Jackson County, died Saturday, March 17, 2001, at the Georgia War Veteran Home in Milledgeville following a lengthy illness.
Mr. Martin was a son of the late Lee O. and Leila Tolbert Martin.
He served in the European Theater of World War II and was awarded the Purple Heart Medal. Mr. Martin was a retiree of Robins Air Force Base, Warner Robins.
Burial was in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Martin is survived by one daughter, DeJuan Neilson, Gray, two grandsons, Cliff Holmes and T.J. Neilson, both of Gray; one sister, Mrs. Hazel Spencer, Athens; and one brother, W.L. Martin, Maysville.
