MR. HESTER
Lumpkin County native
GILLSVILLE - Bill E. Hester, 78, died Thursday, January 11, 2001, at Bell- Minor Nursing Home following an extended illness.
Mr. Hester was born April 6, 1922, in Lumpkin County. He was a son of the late Lon and Ellen Perry Hester.
Mr. Hester worked as a machine operator in the textile industry and was a Baptist minister. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Nishey Hall Hester, and his second wife, Montine Lockman Hester.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 13, in the chapel of Evans Funeral Home, Jefferson, with the Revs. Bill Franklin, Robert Garrett, George Ward and Kevin Page officiating. Burial was in the Union Baptist Church cemetery, Winder.
Mr. Hester is survived by two daughters, Frankie Hulme, Homer, and Sharon Walker, Gainesville; two sisters, Fannie McElroy and Frances Williams, both of Winder; six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Evans Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

MRS. CHEEK
Homemaker
CLARKESVILLE - Mrs. Bertha Mae Eller Cheek, 75, died Saturday, January 13, 2001, at Habersham County Medical Center following an extended illness.
Mrs. Cheek was born July 4, 1925, in Franklin County, a daughter of the late Henry and Mary Etta Savage Garner.
She was a homemaker and was of the Baptist denomination. Mrs. Cheek was preceded in death by a son, Joel Eller. She was the last member of her immediate family.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, January 15, at Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel, Baldwin, with the Revs. Randy Chaffin and Rich Hardeman officiating. Burial was in Yonah Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Cheek is survived by her husband, Jack Cheek, Clarkesville; three daughters, Joyce Melton, Alto, Janet Norton, Baldwin, and Becky Anderson, Clarkesville; one step-daughter, Jackie Goss, Demorest; three sons, Curtis Eller, Baldwin, Carless Eller, Cornelia, and Clarence Eller, Demorest; three step-sons, Paul Cheek, Cornelia, Benny Cheek, West Union, S.C., and Clay Cheek, Mt. Airy; 14 grandchildren, 13 step-grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren.
Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel, was in charge of arrangements.

MR. ANSLEY
Habersham County native
MT. AIRY - Homer Ansley, 86, died Sunday, January 14, 2001, at Athens Regional Medical Center following a brief illness.
Born in Habersham County, Mr. Ansley was a son of the late Felix Hamp and Leckie Loudermilk Ansley.
He retired from the Soil and Water Conservation Department and was a member of Hazel Creek Baptist Church. Mr. Ansley was preceded in death by his wife, Marcelle Anderson Ansley, a brother, John Henry Ansley, and three sisters, Flora Bell Sellers, Willie Mae Alexander and Ora Lee Burton.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 16, at Hazel Creek Baptist Church with the Revs. Billy Burrell, Telford Tanksley and Trent Smith officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Survivors include one daughter, Brenda Goodin, Griffin; two sons, Charles Ansley and Leon Ansley, both of Mt. Airy; and sister-in-law, Pauline Ansley, Mt. Airy.
McGahee-Griffin & Stewart Funeral Home, Cornelia, was in charge of arrangements.

MR. GADDIS
Father of countian
GAINESVILLE - George Gaddis Sr., 63, died Wednesday, January 10, 2001, at Lanier Park Hospital, Gainesville, following an extended illness.
A native and lifelong resident of Hall County, Mr. Gaddis was a son of the late Herman and Myrtie Rider Gaddis.
He was employed with CWT Farms, having worked in the maintenance department for several years. Mr. Gaddis was of the Baptist denomination.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jannie Underwood Gaddis, a daughter, Melinda Gaddis, and two brothers, Homer Rider and Idis Gaddis.
Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, January 13, in the Yellow Creek Baptist Church cemetery, Murrayville, with the Rev. Lonnie Baker officiating.
Survivors include one son, George Gaddis Jr., Dahlonega; one daughter, Jannie Wehunt, Homer; five brothers, Howard Gaddis, Webster Gaddis, Charlie Gaddis, Herman Gaddis and Winford Gaddis, all of Gainesville; three sisters, Rosalee Marsingile, Patsy Rider and Birdie Hatcher, all of Gainesville; five grandchildren, one great-grandchild and a number of nieces and nephews.
Hillside Funeral Home, Gainesville, was in charge of arrangements.

MISS BOWDEN
Level Grove Baptist Church member
CORNELIA - Miss Jessie Bowden, 83, died Thursday, January 11, 2001, at her niece's residence following a short illness.
Miss Bowden was born April 7, 1917, in Banks County, a daughter of the late Dillard R. and Laura Lee Stevens Bowden.
She was retired from Ethicon, Inc., with 39 years of service, and was a member of Level Grove Baptist Church and the Grace Sunday School Class.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, January 13, at Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel, Baldwin, with the Revs. Terry Rice and Harold Sangster officiating. Burial was in Yonah Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Level Grove Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 416, Cornelia, GA 30531.
Miss Bowden is survived by a sister, Burice Waters, Clarkesville.

MRS. SAILERS
Harmony Christian Church member
ORANGE PARK, FLA. - Mrs. Carrie Lee Shelnutt Sailers, 100, died Saturday, January 13, 2001, at Arbors of Orange Park.
Mrs. Sailers was born March 2, 1900, in Jackson County, a daughter of the late Will and Lena Holcomb Shelnutt.
She was a homemaker and a member of Harmony Christian Church, Commerce. Mrs. Sailers was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Henry Sailers.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, January 19, at Harmony Christian Church, with Jerry Payne officiating. Burial will be in Jackson Memorial Gardens, Commerce.
Survivors include three sons, Jerry R. Sailers and William Lewis Sailers, both of Orange Park, Fla., and John W. Sailers, Acworth; 24 grandchildren and a number of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce.
Little-Ward Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

MRS. VAUGHN
Retired administrative secretary
CARNESVILLE - Mrs. Josephine Cabe Vaughn, 72, a resident of the McEntyre Manor, died Thursday, January 11, 2001, at Emory University Hospital, Atlanta.
A native of the Red Hill Community, Franklin County, Mrs. Vaughn was born July 6, 1928, a daughter of the late William Anderson and Henrietta Sosby Cabe.
She was a resident of Atlanta for many years and was a retired administrative secretary with Atlanta Water Works and the Atlanta Department of Education. Mrs. Vaughn was a member of Allens United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, J.D. Vaughn, and two brothers, Max T. Cabe and Rex T. Cabe.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, January 13, at B.D. Ginn Memorial Chapel of Ginn Funeral Home, Carnesville, with the Rev. Merritt Waters officiating. Burial was in the Allens United Methodist Church cemetery.
Survivors include one step-daughter, Vickie Lynn Vaughn, Virginia; two brothers, Ishmael Cabe, Sarasota, Fla., and Larry Cabe, Lavonia; two sisters, Vera Sue Webb, Fairburn, and Jean Fulghum, Huntersville, N.C.; and two step-grandchildren.
Ginn Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

MRS. HUGHES
Homemaker
DANIELSVILLE - Mrs. Mammie Lucille Hughes, 78, died Monday, January 8, 2001.
Born in Tennessee, Mrs. Hughes was a daughter of the late Jessie Lindsey and Alberta Ann Jones Hinsley.
She was a homemaker and was a member of Friendship Baptist Church. Mrs. Hughes was preceded in death by her husband, William Hughes.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, January 10, at Friendship Baptist Church with the Rev. Dayton Logan officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Hughes is survived by two sisters, Zora Turner, Danielsville, and Christine Klafert, New Orleans; and one brother, Douglas Hinsley, Maysville.
Brown's Funeral Home, Danielsville, was in charge of arrangements.

MR. CASH
Former teacher, administrator
GAINESVILLE - Max Cash, 73, formerly of Mt. Airy, died Thursday, January 11, 2001, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center, Gainesville, following a brief illness.
Mr. Cash was born December 22, 1927, in Habersham County, a son of the late Albert Duncan and Ethel Maxwell Cash.
He was a former teacher and administrator in Habersham and Stephens counties and was a former Habersham County School superintendent. Mr. Cash was a former Rotary Club Member, a member of NEA, GAE, HAE, a member of AARP and a member of the North Georgia Technical School Advisory Board. He was a member of Hazel Creek Baptist Church for over 35 years, where he served as a deacon and a former Sunday School teacher and director. Mr. Cash was also a member of Blackshear Place Baptist Church and was active in Senior Adult activities.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 13, at Hazel Creek Baptist Church with the Revs. Billy Burrell and G.A. Lawson and Dr. James Austin officiating. Burial was in the Hazel Creek Baptist Church cemetery.
Mr. Cash is survived by his wife, Grace Cody Cash, Gainesville; daughter and son-in-law, Jan and Brett Black, Gainesville; son and daughter-in-law, Kerry and Dianne Cash, Mt. Airy; two brothers, Dennis Cash, Mt. Airy, and Julian Cash, Bowling Green, Ky.; one sister, Bonnie Cash Anderson, Demorest; grandchildren, Courtney and Kyle Cash, Isaac Black, Anna Kate Black and Natalie Black; step-grandchildren, Brandon McLain, Rebekah McLain and Laryssa Ladd; and step-great-grandchildren, Ebie McLain, Luke McLain and Kaley Ladd.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Gideons, P.O. Box 195, Baldwin, GA 30511, or to the Blackshear Place Baptist Church Building Fund, 3428 Atlanta Highway, Flowery Branch, GA 30542.
