Essie Mae Ryals Harrell
Services for Essie Mae Ryals Harrell of Rhine were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 17 at Rhine Baptist Church with interment in Bay Springs Cemetery in Rhine.
The Rev. Bill Jones and the Rev. Charles Robinson officiated.
Harrell, 84, died Monday, Sept. 15, 2003. She was the daughter of the late E.C. and Lilla Arnsdorff Myers. She was the widow of Curtis Ryals and James Harrell.
She was a native of Effingham County and had lived in Dodge County for the past 67 years. She was a member of Rhine Baptist Church and a homemaker.
Survivors included her daughters, Lillian Purvis and Janette Hardeman, both of Eastman, Annette Dixon of Albany and Dale Hulett of Rhine; sons, Tommy Ryals, William Ryals, Bobby Ryals and Gary Ryals, all of Rhine; sisters, Mildred Davis of Pembroke and Evelyn Collins of Gray; brothers, Dewey Myers of Langley, S.C. and Earnest Myers of Pembroke; 20 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.
Stokes-Southerland Funeral Home of Eastman was in charge of arrangements.
Ezekiel “Zeke” Hearn
Services for Ezekiel “Zeke” Hearn of Hazlehurst were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 7 at the Lumber City Baptist Church with interment in the McRae City Cemetery.
The Rev. John Daughtry, the Rev. Donnie Sutton and the Rev. Merle Webster officiated.
Hearn, 78, died Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2003. He was the son of the late Peacock and Rosie Sears Hearn and was married to Thera Lee Goodman Hearn.
He was a native of Wheeler County and resided in Jeff Davis most of his life. He was a member of the Lumber City Baptist Church, a retired self-employed shoe repairman and was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in WWII.
In addition to his wife, survivors included his step-children, Betty Jean Perry of Blackshear and Kenneth Goodman Jr. of Pickens, S.C.; sister, Mattie Lee Thompson of Lumber City; godchild, Betty Jean Lilliott of Madison; four step-grandchildren and nine step-great-grandchildren.
Wainright-Parlor Funeral Home of Hazlehurst was in charge of arrangements.
Lester Lee McLeod
Services for Lester Lee McLeod of McRae were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 11 in the chapel of Lowe’s Funeral Home with interment in Telfair Memorial Gardens.
The Rev. Thelma Norris Henderson and the Rev. Randall Horne officiated.
McLeod, 90, died Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2003. He was the son of the late Marvin and Carrie McDuffie McLeod and was the widower of Ruth Best McLeod. He was preceded in death by his son, Clois McLeod.
A lifelong resident of Telfair County, he was a retired driver from Roydon Wear Inc., of McRae and was a member of McRae Church of God.
Survivors included his daughters, Mildred Strom of Douglas, Hazel Brown of McRae, Shirley Leggett of Alamo and Zelda Seabolt of Helena; nine grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
Lowe’s Funeral Home of Helena was in charge of arrangements.
Carlos Fulton Mullis
Graveside services for Carlton Fulton Mullis of Eastman were held at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 17 at the Zion Hope Cemetery.
The Rev. Bill Mullis officiated.
Mullis, 85, died Monday, Sept. 15, 2003. He was the son of the late William Henry and Odie Parkerson Mullis and was the widower of Vivian Yawn Mullis. He was preceded in death by two of his children, Carlene Mullis James and Sidney Mullis.
He was a native of Dodge County, a member of New Union Baptist Church and a retired butcher for Piggly Wiggly Southern.
Survivors included his daughter, Terry Lynn Collins of Eastman; sons, Charles R. Mullis of Cochran and Timothy E. Mullis of Hawkinsville; sister, Mildred Stuckey of Fort Valley; brothers, Parker New Mullis of Jesup, Gilbert Mullis of Beach Island, S.C., Felder Mullis of Damascus, Md., James Mullis, Brice Mullis, J.D. Mullis and Doyce Mullis, all of Eastman; 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers the family request contributions to the Alzheimer’s Association, 277 M.L.K. Blvd.-Suite 201, Macon Ga. 31201.

John Daniel Law
Services for John Daniel Law of Rhine were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 14 in the chapel of Southerland Funeral Home in Eastman with interment in the Bowen Cemetery.
The Rev. Jim Faircloth and the Rev. Larry Williams officiated.
Law, 73, died Saturday, Sept. 13, 2003. He was the son of Lessie Yancey Law of Eastman and the late Jim C Law. He was the widower of Susie Alice Maloy Law and was married to Georgia Mae Law of Rhine.
A native of Dodge County, he was a retired civil service employee of Warner Robins Air Force Base, a member and deacon of Hopewell Baptist Church and a Gideon.
In addition to his wife and mother, survivors included his daughters, Diane L. Faircloth of Abbeville and Janette L Williams of Eastman; and two grandchildren.

Rosa Mae Proctor
Services for Rosa Mae Proctor of Milledgeville were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 14 in the chapel of Williams Funeral Home and Crematory with interment in Westview Cemetery.
The Rev. Ed Nelson and the Rev. David Dickens officiated.
Proctor, 91, died Friday, Sept. 12, 2003. She was the daughter of Marshall O. and Dorcas Lancaster Cook and was the widow of Cary Anderson Proctor.
She was native of Telfair County, but had lived in Milledgeville most of her adult life. She was a homemaker and a charter member of the Emma Cook Circle of the United Methodist Women. She was a member of Hopewell United Methodist Church and attended Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church.
Survivors included her daughter, Martha Vinson of Milledgeville; brothers, Clarence Cook and Emmitt Cook, both of McRae; two granddaughters and four great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to New Hope Baptist Church c/o Vonell Thomas, Rt. 2, McRae Ga. 31055 or to the donor’s favorite charity.

Cillia Rice
Memorial services for Cillia Rice, of Eastman were held at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 12 in the chapel of A.L. Spaulding Funeral Home.
The Rev. Robert Hayward officiated.
Rice, 95, died Sunday, Sept. 7, 2003. She was the daughter of the late Jack and Rebecca McKinnon, was married to Johnny Lee Rice and was a native of Dodge County.
In addition to her husband, survivors included her daughter, Igertha Wallace of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; brother, John C. Jordon of Ruthledge, Fla.; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; one god-daughter and one god-son.

Inez Tobler
Services for Inez Tobler of Eastman were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 13 at Sandhill Baptist Church of Scotland with interment in Scotland Cemetery.
The Rev. Noah Robinson officiated.
Tobler, 83, died Sunday, Sept. 7, 2003. She was the daughter of the late Garfield and Genever Barnes, was married to Quincey Tobler and a native of Dodge County.
In addition to her husband, survivors included her daughter, Gretha Barnes of Eastman; son, Gene Clark of Jacksonville; and eight grandchildren.
A.L. Spaulding Funeral Home of McRae was in charge of arrangements.
Mabel G. Williams
Services for Mabel G. Williams of McRae were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 13 at Corinth C.M.E. Church of McRae with interment at Pine Acres Cemetery.
The Rev. Robert Yarborough officiated.
Williams, 91, died Friday, Sept. 5, 2003. She was the daughter of the late John Franklin and Ophelia S. Greene and was the widow of Oscar Williams.
A native of Telfair County, she was a retired educator of the Telfair County school system with 39 years of service.
Survivors included her daughter, Carolyn Ophelia Hamilton; sisters, Adrian Moody of Helena and Bessie Martin of Towns; five grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
