Doris S. McCay
Mrs. Doris Sewell McCay, 84, of Ila, died Tuesday, December 26, 2000, at her residence.
Mrs. McCay was born August 13, 1916, in Franklin County, a daughter of the late Julius Lee Sewell and the late Frances Merrle Brown Sewell.
She was a homemaker and was a member of Bold Springs United Methodist Church. Mrs. McCay was preceded in death by a brother, Vance Sewell.
Funeral services were held Friday, December 29, at Mount Hermon Presbyterian Church with the Revs. Albert Vaughn and Susan Reggin officiating. Burial was in the Ila City Cemetery. LeAnn McCay, Jason McCay, J.J. McCay, Megan McCay, Trey McCay and Daniel McCay served as pallbearers.
Mrs. McCay is survived by her husband, Ralph Leon McCay Sr., Ila; two sons, Ralph Leon McCay Jr., Fort Lamar, and James Lee McCay, Ila; one daughter, Barbara Jean McCay, Ila; one brother, Raiford Sewell, Bold Springs; six grandchildren and one niece.

Clarence M. Bryant Sr.
Clarence M. Bryant Sr., 79, of Athens, died Wednesday, December 27, 2000.
A native of Elbert County, Mr. Bryant was a son of the late John Elva and Mary Della Bryant.
He was retired from Purolator.
Funeral services were held Friday, December 29, in the chapel of Lord & Stephens Funeral Home, East, with the Rev. Buford Lockman officiating. Burial was in Greenlawn Cemetery, Union Point. Thomas E. Bryant Sr., Thomas E. Bryant Jr., Clarence M. Bryant Jr., Bert W. Strickland, Charles R. Griggs and Donnie Fowler served as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were Justin Fowler and Murphy Bryant.
Survivors include his former wife and mother of their children, Rachel A. Bryant O'Sheal, Hull; one daughter, Ellen B. Griggs, Athens; two sons, Thomas E. Bryant, Lexington, and Clarence M. Bryant Jr., Hull; two sisters, Sara Bates, Danielsville, and Ellakay Redfern, Athens; two brothers, Raymond Bryant, Dewey Rose, and Almond Bryant, Bowman; eight grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

John Dewaters
John Dewaters, 67, of Commerce, formerly of Staten Island, N.Y., died Friday, December 29, 2000, at St. Mary's Hospital, Athens.
Mr. Dewaters was born May 15, 1933, in Staten Island, N.Y., a son of the late Abram and Rose Mooney Dewaters.
He had been employed as a salesman.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, January 2, 2001, in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Rev. Harold Crawford officiating. Burial was in Jackson Memorial Gardens, Commerce.
Mr. Dewaters is survived by his wife, Marion Dewaters, Commerce; four sons, Arthur Dewaters, Welaka, Fla., Don Dewaters, New London, Conn., Raymond Dewaters, Louisiana, and Thomas Dewaters, Commerce; two daughters, Deann Dewaters, Hull, and Dorinda Hall, Maysville; one brother, James Dewaters, Staten Island, N.Y.; one sister, Mary Peters, Norwick, Conn.; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Kenneth Bray
Kenneth Bray, 84, of Stockbridge, died Saturday, December 30, 2000.
A native of Colbert, Mr. Bray was a retired supervisor with the Atlanta Army Depot. He was a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5290 and was past master and secretary of Stockbridge Masonic Lodge No. 691.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, January 2, 2001, in Ward's Fairview Chapel, Stockbridge. Burial was in Fairview Memorial Gardens, Stockbridge.
Mr. Bray is survived by his wife, Mary Jane Wuske Bray; three daughters, Mary Ellen Bruce Montgomery, Stockbridge, Juliann Duncan, Seagrove Beach, Fla., and Cathy Wilkerson, McDonough; three granddaughters, one grandson and three great-grandchildren.

World War II veteran
BALDWIN - Alvin "Pete" Brock, 78, died Wednesday, January 31, 2001, at his residence following an extended illness.
Mr. Brock was born in Banks County on February 5, 1922, a son of the late Joe Theo and Mamie Savage Brock.
He was a World War II veteran, having served in the U.S. Army, and was retired from Fieldale Inc., with almost 20 years of service. Mr. Brock was a member of Leatherwood Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by a son, Ray M. Brock, a brother, Ezell Brock, and a sister, Blanche Brock.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, February 2, at Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel, Baldwin, with Dr. Kenneth Franklin and the Rev. Greg Brock officiating. Burial was in the Leatherwood Baptist Church cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Ila Mae Stewart Brock, Baldwin; one daughter, Glenda Waters, Cornelia; five sons, Leaford Brock, Ranburne, Ala., Carter Brock, Baldwin, Buford Brock, Toccoa, Roy Brock, Alto, and Phil Brock, Mt. Airy; two sisters, Fannie Bell Pitts and Pauline Brown, both of Mt. Airy; two brothers, Jack Brock, Mt. Airy, and Duckett Brock, Baldwin; 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

COMMERCE - Mrs. June Chandler, 63, died Monday, February 5, 2001, at her residence.
Mrs. Chandler was born May 23, 1937, in Thomas County, a daughter of the late Robert and Mary Miller Odom.
She was employed as a nurse with BJC Medical Center, Commerce, and was a member of Berea Baptist Church, where she served as an Adult Ladies Sunday School class teacher.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, February 8, in the chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Revs. Grady Jordan and Terry James officiating. Burial will be in Jackson Memorial Gardens, Commerce.
Mrs. Chandler is survived by her husband, James J. Chandler Sr., Commerce; one son, James Chandler, Commerce; one daughter, Malinda Chandler, Gainesville; and one brother, Burton Odom, Conyers.
The family was to have received friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

COMMERCE - William Luther Brock, 80, died Thursday, February 1, 2001, at Georgia Veterans Home, Milledgeville.
A native of McMinn County, Tenn., Mr. Brock was a son of the late George and Laura Williams Brock.
He was retired from the U.S. Army, with 22 years of service, and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Inglewood, Tenn. Mr. Brock was also a member of the VFW.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Saturday, February 3, in the chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Rev. Henry Webb officiating. Burial was in Jackson Memorial Gardens, Commerce.
Mr. Brock is survived by his wife, Betty Saxon Minish Brock, Commerce; four sons, Carter Brock, Rogersville, Mo., Kerry Brock, Springfield, Mo., Robert Brock, Belton, Texas, and William L. Brock Jr., Madisonville, Tenn.; three daughters, Carolyn Estes and Teresa Thompson, both of Athens, Tenn., and Darla Lord, Champaign, Ill.; step-sons and daughters-in-law, Dennis and Teresa Minish and Ricky and Angie Minish, all of Commerce; step-daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Charles Fouche, Hull; two sisters, Lee Holland, Miami, Fla., and Sue Middleton, Cape Coral, Fla.; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

CORNELIA - Mrs. Hazel Simpson, 76, died Thursday, February 1, 2001, at Habersham County Medical Center following a short illness.
Mrs. Simpson was born October 8, 1924, in Rabun County.
She was a homemaker and volunteered with Sharing and Caring as long as her health permitted. Mrs. Simpson was a member of Hillside Baptist Church and attended Good News Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Dora Brock Wilson, and her husband, Arthur Adolph Simpson.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 3, at Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel, Baldwin, with the Rev. Austin Kelley officiating. Burial was in the Hazel Creek Baptist Church cemetery.
Survivors include two sisters, Minnie Gragg, Lakemont, and Beulah Gragg, Lula; and several nieces and nephews.

Retired postal service clerk
DEMOREST - Mrs. Margie Amanda Gray Davis, 91, died Friday, February 2, 2001, at her residence following an extended illness.
Mrs. Davis was born in Riverside, N.C., on November 29, 1909, a daughter of the late John Javan and Mary May Stiles Gray. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ross Franklin Davis.
Mrs. Davis attended Morrison Presbyterian School and Franklin, North Carolina High School. She married
in 1928, and with her husband, moved to Demorest in 1934.
Mrs. Davis served as president of the Demorest PTA, The Demorest Women's Club, the Women of the Cornelia Presbyterian Church and was a member of the Tomochichi Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. In 1950, she entered the Postal Service as clerk for the Demorest Post Office and retired in 1972.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, February 4, at the First Presbyterian Church of Cornelia with the Revs. Blaine Walker and Richard Scoggins officiating. Burial was in Yonah Memorial Gardens.
Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Mary Celeste and Oland Garrison, Cornelia; son and daughter-in-law, Howard Franklin and Lucy Davis, Toccoa; sister, Virginia Gray Baldwin, Franklin, N.C.; sister and brother-in-law, Lucy Gray and Elmer Crawford, Asheville, N.C.; sister-in-law, Janette Gray, Stroudsberg, Pa.; grandchildren, Susanne Garrison Hoder and husband, John Hoder, Barrington, R.I., Stanley D. DEMOREST - Mrs. Geneva Cobb Crumley, 89, died Sunday, February 4, 2001, at a private nursing home following an extended illness.
Mrs. Crumley was born November 15, 1911, in Pickens, S.C. She was a daughter of the late George and Levie Akin Cobb.
Mrs. Crumley was a seamstress and homemaker and was a Follower of Jesus Christ. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Burris B. Patterson.
Mrs. Crumley's second husband, Roy S. Crumley, passed away a short time after her on Sunday.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, February 6, at Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel, Demorest, with Richard Gasser and Ralph Smith officiating. Burial was in Redwood Memorial Estates, Murray, Utah.
Survivors include one son, W. Charles Patterson, Salt Lake City, Utah; two step-sons, General Crumley, Demorest, and Eugene Crumley, Piedmont, S.C.; two sisters, Ruby Smith, Greenville, S.C., and Ellen Bell, Belton, S.C.; one brother, James Cobb, Pickens, S.C.; six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

DEMOREST - Roy S. Crumley, 94, died Sunday, February 4, 2001, at a private nursing home following an extended illness.
Mr. Crumley was born March 20, 1906, in Hall County, a son of the late Alex and Sallie Robinson Crumley.
He was retired from Mt. Vernon Mills as a frame operator, with several years of service. Mr. Crumley was a member of the AARP and was a Follower of Jesus Christ. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Orlie Wells Crumley, and a son, Roy Earl Crumley.
Mr. Crumley's second wife, Geneva Cobb Crumley, passed away a few hours before on Sunday.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, February 6, at Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel, Demorest, with Richard Gasser and Ralph Smith officiating. Burial was in Yonah Memorial Gardens.
Survivors include two sons, General Crumley, Demorest, and Eugene Crumley, Piedmont, S.C.; one step-son, W. Charles Patterson, Salt Lake City, Utah; one sister, Leila Holbrooks, Gainesville; seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
