ACKWORTH - Mrs. Ioness Boling Alexander, mother of Jackson County Parks & Recreation employee Brenda Cantrell, died Thursday, January 11, 2001, following an extended illness. She passed away one day after her 70th birthday.
Mrs. Alexander was a former resident of Alpharetta.
Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Saturday, January 13, in the chapel of Louie E. Jones Funeral Home, Alpharetta, with the Revs. R.D. Pruitt and Toney Boling officiating. Burial was in Greenlawn Cemetery.
Mrs. Alexander is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Allan Parrish, Sugar Hill; daughters, Mrs. Cantrell, Nicholson, Jeanette Otazo, Ackworth, and Barbara Sayler, Canton; sons and daughters-in-law, Toney and Dale Boling, Cumming, and Tommy and Pat Boling, Canton; sister and brother-in-law, Wallace and Maxine Dinsmore, Jasper; brothers, Sam Fox and Charles Fox, both of Jasper; brother and sister-in-law, Dub and Joan Fox, Ackworth; 10 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

TOUNGOO, BURMA - Mrs. Dawn Aye Nu Sein San U, 91, passed away recently.
Memorial services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, January 14, 2001, at Rogers Baptist Church with the Rev. Carlton Peters officiating.
Mrs. Sein San U is survived by her husband, Gyaw Jon Sein San U; children, Lillian, Sherwin, Dollar, and Bonsco, all of Burma, and Kendrick and Dana Sein San U, Maysville; and grandchildren, Molly, Amanda and Holly.
MR. HARPER
U.S. Navy veteran
NORTH FORT MYERS, FLA. - James L. Harper, 59, died Tuesday, January 23, 2001.
Formerly of Commerce, Mr. Harper had been a resident of Fort Myers, Fla., for 27 years.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, a graduate of the University of Georgia and was an avid boating enthusiast. Mr. Harper was an employee with Amerigas of Fort Myers and was active in the LP Gas Association.
He was preceded in death by his father, James H. Harper.
A memorial service was held at noon Saturday, January 27, at Harvey-Engelhardt-Metz Funeral Home, Fort Myers, Fla., with the Rev. Dr. H. Timothy Halverson officiating.
Mr. Harper is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Kristina Harper, North Fort Myers, Fla.; his mother, Lou Lesley Harper, Commerce; two brothers, Robert Harper, Commerce, and Sidney Harper, Locust Grove; and many nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to the Library or to the First Baptist Church of Commerce.

LAVONIA - Rueben Dean Haire, 55, died Sunday, January 21, 2001, at his residence.
A memorial service was held at 2 p.m. Saturday, January 27, at the residence.
Mr. Haire is survived by his wife, Darine Doster Haire; five children, Hope Abbs, Commerce, Donnie Ray Lewis, Lawrenceville, Carlton Lewis, Gainesville, Timothy Hiland, Canon, and Christine Brock, Lavonia; two brothers, Billy Haire, Hartwell, and Harvey Haire, Baytown, Texas; one sister, Edie Counts, Idabele, Okla.; and three grandchildren, Page, Kyle and Randall.

LEXINGTON, KY. - Mrs. Thelma DeLinda Cheek Murphy, 97, formerly of Commerce, died Saturday, January 27, 2001, at the St. Joseph Hospice Center, Lexington, Ky.
Mrs. Murphy was born October 12, 1903, a daughter of the late John Henry and Chassie Holcomb.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church. Mrs. Murphy was preceded in death by her first husband, William Mazie Cheek, and her second husband, Truman Murphy.
Graveside services were held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, January 30, in Jackson Memorial Gardens, Commerce.
Survivors include three sons, Lamar Cheek, Tarpon Springs, Fla., William Cheek, Lexington, Ky., and Larry Cheek, Farmington Hills, Mich.; one daughter, Maysie Faubion, Houston, Texas; nine grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

HOMER - Mrs. Denise Beverly Brock, 34, died Wednesday, January 24, 2001, at her residence.
Mrs. Brock was born November 9, 1966, in Commerce, a daughter of Brenda R. Roberts, Homer, and the late David L. Clark.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, January 27, at Charity Baptist Church, Homer, with the Rev. Vaughn Howington officiating. Burial was in Grove Level Baptist Church cemetery.
Mrs. Brock is survived by her husband, Joe Brock, Homer; two sons, Joey Brock and Timothy Brock, both of Homer; one brother, Matthew Wayne Clark, Danielsville; one sister, Donna Jean Carlyle, Danielsville; and grandmother, Ruby D. Clark, Danielsville.

LOGANVILLE - Mrs. Lois S. Smallwood, 78, died Tuesday, January 30, 2001, at Life Care Center of Lawrenceville.
Mrs. Smallwood was born October 13, 1922. She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Smallwood was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh Aubrey Smallwood.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, February 2, at Blacks Creek Baptist Church. Burial will be in Grey Hill Cemetery, Commerce.
Survivors include son, Danny Smallwood, Lawrenceville, and another son, Capt. Jackie Smallwood, who was reported missing in action in 1973; three brothers, Charles Sorrow, Brunswick, Claude Sorrow, Conyers, and Noble Sorrow, Crawford; and three sisters, Montine Hardman, Commerce, Johnnie Spray, Crawford, and Grace Toney, Atlanta.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Ivie Funeral Home, Commerce.

COLBERT - Mildred Bullock Parten, 68, died Monday, January 29, 2001.
A native of Madison County, Mrs. Parten was a daughter of the late Coke and Mary Pauline McCurly Bullock.
She was a homemaker and seamstress and was of the Baptist denomination. Mrs. Parten was a member of the Liver Foundation.
Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, February 1, in Colbert cemetery with the Rev. Don Fuller officiating.
Survivors include one daughter, Cindy Williams, Commerce; one son, Bruce Parten, Winder; two brothers, G.T. "Pete" Bullock, Danielsville, and Paul Bullock, Colbert; four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

COMMERCE - Mrs. Aretha Lucille Brown, 82, died Tuesday, January 30, 2001, at BJC Medical Center, Commerce.
Mrs. Brown was born June 4, 1918, a daughter of the late Sam and Cora Chastain Waldroup. She was the wife of the late Telford Brown.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, February 1, in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Rev. Lonnie Bennett officiating. Burial will be in Grey Hill Cemetery, Commerce.
Survivors include two daughters, Stella Mullinax and Annie Lee Waldroup, both of Commerce; one brother, Ralph Waldroup, Commerce; one sister, Katie May Wilson, Commerce; eight grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

MAYSVILLE - Mrs. Mabel Miles Mathis, 78, died Saturday, January 27, 2001, at Crawford W. Long Hospital, Atlanta, following an extended illness.
Mrs. Mathis was a daughter of the late C.E. and Vannie Wilkes Hillard. She was the widow of Frank Mathis.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, January 29, in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Rev. Edwin Smith officiating. Burial was in Jackson Memorial Gardens, Commerce.
Survivors include three daughters, Shelby Pace, Maysville, Judy Thomas, Conyers, and Lindy Smith, Lawrenceville; and one brother, J.C. Hillard, West End, N.C.

MR. FRIX
World War II veteran
JEFFERSON - Lyman Carlton Frix, 81, died Thursday, January 25, 2001, at Athens Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Frix was born October 20, 1919, in Oconee County. He was a son of the late W.H. and Alphie Wilbanks Frix.
Mr. Frix served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, serving on the USS Washington for the entire war. He was a retired brick mason and was a member of Antioch Christian Church.
Graveside services were held at 4 p.m. Saturday, January 27, in Doster Cemetery, Jefferson, with the Rev. Gary Stewart officiating.
Mr. Frix is survived by his wife, Martha Frix; daughters and sons-in-law, Peggy and John Cole, Milford, Ind., and Charlotte and Edward Gurley, Jefferson; son, Carl Frix, Jefferson; one grandchild and one great-grandchild.
