Mrs. Zorah Meadows, of Comer, died Friday, January 12, 2001.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, January 16, at Fairfield Baptist Church with the Rev. D.T. Jackson serving as pastor and the Rev. Ronald Gantt officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Survivors include two sons, Linton Meadows, Decatur, and Lanier Meadows, Comer; four daughters, Lizzie Carithers, Comer, Barbara Moore, Ellenwood, Berletha Bloodsaw, Phoenix, Ariz., and Rochelle Skelton, Hull; five sisters, Rosie Jones, Athens, Ida Brown, St. Paul, N.C., Trudy McKeever, Commerce, and Lula Colbert and Gladys Johnson, both of Danielsville; two brothers, Durham Johnson and James Johnson, both of Philadelphia, Pa.; 19 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Carrie L. Sailers
Mrs. Carrie Lee Shelnutt Sailers, 100, of Orange Park, Fla., died Saturday, January 13, 2001, at Arbors of Orange Park.
Mrs. Sailers was born March 2, 1900, in Jackson County, a daughter of the late Will and Lena Holcomb Shelnutt.
She was a homemaker and a member of Harmony Christian Church, Commerce. Mrs. Sailers was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Henry Sailers.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, January 19, at Harmony Christian Church, with Jerry Payne officiating. Burial will be in Jackson Memorial Gardens, Com-merce.
Survivors include three sons, Jerry R. Sailers and William Lewis Sailers, both of Orange Park, Fla., and John W. Sailers, Acworth; 24 grandchildren and a number of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce.

Kenneth W. Fortner
Kenneth Wade Fortner, 40, of Comer, died Saturday, January 13, 2001.
A native of Decatur, Ala., Mr. Fortner was a son of Howard and Gloria Fortner.
He had lived in the Comer area for the past eight years and was of the Baptist denomination.
Graveside services were held at 3 p.m. Monday, January 15, in Clark Cemetery, Lexington, with John Wesley Edwards officiating. Jeff Williams, Wilson Sojo, John Edwards Jr. and David Brooks served as pallbearers.
Mr. Fortner is survived by his wife, Janet Welch Fortner, Comer; one step-daughter, Vara Loggins Sojo, Athens; one sister, Susanne Ferguson, Gainesville; and one brother, Keith Fortner, Ballground.

HOSCHTON - Mrs. Janette Church Puckett, 67, died Thursday, February 1, 2001, at Emory University Hospital following an extended illness.
Mrs. Puckett was born August 27, 1933, in Jackson County. She was a daughter of the late Ollie Lee and Clara Doster Church.
Mrs. Puckett was a retired quality control supervisor in the textile industry and was a member of Revival Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by a brother, Jack Church, and a sister, Thelma Camp.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, February 4, in the chapel of Evans Funeral Home, Jefferson, with the Revs. Hoyt Skelton and Winford Page officiating. Burial was in Jackson Memorial Gardens, Commerce.
Mrs. Puckett is survived by her husband, Herbert H. Puckett, Hoschton; two sons, Randell Puckett and Ricky Puckett, both of Hoschton; one brother, Raymond Church, Hoschton; and three grandchildren.

HOSCHTON - Mrs. Margaret Marlow Bryant, 76, died Saturday, February 3, 2001, at Athens Regional Medical center following an extended illness.
Mrs. Bryant was born March 10, 1924, in Barrow County, a daughter of the late William Harrison and Susan Shelton Marlow.
She was a homemaker and a member of White Plains Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Monday, February 5, in the chapel of Evans Funeral Home, Jefferson, with the Rev. Kevin Page officiating. Burial was in the White Plains Baptist Church cemetery. Donnie Boyd, Charles Bryant, Ricky Bryant, James Capes, Shorty Hogan and Bob Vest served as pallbearers.
Mrs. Bryant is survived by her husband, Rooselvelt Bryant, Hoschton; one son, Mickey Bryant, Hoschton; two sisters, Memphis Lingerfelt, Winder, and Mary Nell McElhannon, Hartwell; and one grandson, Zachary Bryant, Hoschton.

World War II veteran
JEFFERSON - Joseph Elwyn Barrett, 77, died Sunday, February 4, 2001, at BJC Medical Center, Commerce, following an extended illness.
Born in Jackson County, Mr. Barrett was a son of the late J. Early and Ermine Park Barrett.
He was a veteran of World War II, having served with the U.S. Army during the Philippines, and was a retired farmer and bus driver for the Jackson County Board of Education. Mr. Barrett was a member of Apple Valley Baptist Church, the VFW and the American Legion.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, February 6, in the chapel of Evans Funeral Home, Jefferson, with the Revs. Hulon Hill and Lee Hunter officiating. Burial was in the Apple Valley Baptist Church cemetery. Jackie Barrett, Alan Parks, Sam Thompson, Tommy Dean, Jerry Ginn and Danny Sheridan served as pallbearers.
Mr. Barrett is survived by his wife, Rachel Ginn Barrett, Jefferson; son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Laverne Barrett, Jefferson; daughters and sons-in-law, Susan and Bobby Gooch, Jefferson, and Kathy and Alan Kennedy, Commerce; two sisters, Virginia B. COMMERCE - William Luther Brock, 80, died Thursday, February 1, 2001, at Georgia Veterans Home, Milledgeville.
A native of McMinn County, Tenn., Mr. Brock was a son of the late George and Laura Williams Brock.
He was retired from the U.S. Army, with 22 years of service, and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Inglewood, Tenn. Mr. Brock was also a member of the VFW.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Saturday, February 3, in the chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Rev. Henry Webb officiating. Burial was in Jackson Memorial Gardens, Commerce.
Mr. Brock is survived by his wife, Betty Saxon Minish Brock, Commerce; four sons, Carter Brock, Rogersville, Mo., Kerry Brock, Springfield, Mo., Robert Brock, Belton, Texas, and William L. Brock Jr., Madisonville, Tenn.; three daughters, Carolyn Estes and Teresa Thompson, both of Athens, Tenn., and Darla Lord, Champaign, Ill.; step-sons and daughters-in-law, Dennis and Teresa Minish and Ricky and Angie Minish, all of Commerce; step-daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Charles Fouche, Hull; two sisters, Lee Holland, Miami, Fla., and Sue Middleton, Cape Coral, Fla.; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

WINDER - Mrs. Mildred Lance Nix Ruark, 77, died Sunday, February 4, 2001, at her residence following a sudden illness.
Mrs. Ruark was born January 19, 1924, in Lumpkin County. She was a daughter of the late Dee and Dessie Ryder Lance.
Mrs. Ruark was a retired seamstress with Carwood Manufacturing and was a member of Hightower Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Claude Nix, and children, Danny Lee Nix, Janie Marie Phillips and Dusty Lee Nix.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, February 6, at White Plains Baptist Church, Jefferson, with the Revs. Kevin Page and Ron Hewitt officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Ruark is survived by her husband, Claude Ruark, Winder; two daughters, Claudette "Bootsie" Austin and Judy Hogan, both of Hoschton; two sons, Billy Joe Nix and Dale Nix, both of Winder; nine grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

GAINESVILLE - Harvey "Junior" Dispain, 65, died Saturday, February 3, 2001, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center, Gainesville, following a sudden illness.
A native of Cherokee County, Mr. Dispain was a son of the late Harvey and Mirinda Ridley Dispain.
He was retired from Gainesville Iron Works, with 30 years of service, and was a member of Victory Baptist Church, Gainesville. Mr. Dispain was preceded in death by a brother, Marion Dispain, and three sisters, Irene Dispain, Della Mae Edwards and Lillie Bell Dispain.
Family members say Mr. Dispain was a loving daddy, papa and friend to all.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, February 5, at Victory Baptist Church with the Rev. Edmond Harris officiating. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery, Gainesville.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Ruby Nell Dispain, Gainesville; daughters and sons-in-law, Teresa and David Gee, Pendergrass, Lesa and Freddie Williams Jr., Gainesville, and Janet and Danny Stowers, Clermont; daughter, Mirinda Gay Grogan, Cleveland; brothers, Homer Dispain and Johnny Dispain, both of Gainesville; sisters, Fanniloue Martin, Dawsonville, and Jewell Sullens and Shirley Harris, both of Gainesville; grandchildren, Freddie Williams III, Joshua Williams, Brett Williams, Preston Williams, Melessa Williams, Stephen Gee, Andrew Scott Gee, April Gee Harder, Kayleigh Pinion and Kelsey Stowers; and one great-granddaughter, Azalynn Harder.

COMMERCE - Mrs. June Chandler, 63, died Monday, February 5, 2001, at her residence.
Mrs. Chandler was born May 23, 1937, in Thomas County, a daughter of the late Robert and Mary Miller Odom.
She was employed as a nurse with BJC Medical Center, Commerce, and was a member of Berea Baptist Church, where she served as an Adult Ladies Sunday School class teacher.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, February 8, in the chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Revs. Grady Jordan and Terry James officiating. Burial will be in Jackson Memorial Gardens, Commerce.
Mrs. Chandler is survived by her husband, James J. Chandler Sr., Commerce; one son, James Chandler, Commerce; one daughter, Malinda Chandler, Gainesville; and one brother, Burton Odom, Conyers.
The family was to have received friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

ROYSTON - John Otis Mealor, 60, died Monday, February 5, 2001.
Mr. Mealor was born March 1, 1940, in Madison County. He was a son of the late John Boyd and Florence Horne Mealor.
Mr. Mealor was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was a truck driver. He was a member of the Red Hill Masonic Lodge and was of the Baptist denomination.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, February 7, in the chapel of Pruitt Funeral Home, Royston, with the Revs. Paul Creason and Johnny Ashworth officiating. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery. Than Royston, Jerry Bennett, Randy Spears, Kermit McGee, Bobby Singleton, Douglas Fowler, Ernest Fowler, Ronny Adams, Hugh Roach, Herbert Adams and Henry Rice served as pallbearers.
Mr. Mealor is survived by his wife, Myrtle Garner Mealor, Royston; one daughter, Rhonda Beasley, Canon; two sons, Roger Mealor, Canon, and Rodney Mealor, Royston; one sister, JoAnn Pilgrim, Royston; one brother, Charles Mealor, Commerce; and six grandchildren.
