CONYERS - Mrs. Gwenda Latham Watts died Monday, February 5, 2001.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, February 7, in the chapel of A.S. Turner & Sons, Decatur, with the Revs. Charles Jenkins and Herb Jones officiating. Burial was in Floral Hills Memory Gardens.
Mrs. Watts is survived by her husband, Fred R. "Bobby" Watts; daughters and sons-in-law, Joyce and Barry King, Jefferson, and Karen and Herb Jones, Douglasville; step-daughter and son-in-law, Carol and John Cacciola, Conyers; step-son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Wanda Watts, Griffin; step-son, Chuck Watts, Bremen; sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Harris Hughes, Clarkesville; sisters, Mary Jane West, Demorest, Martha Clay, Riverdale, and Harriett Kirkpatrick, Punta Gorda, Fla.; brother, Phillip Kirkpatrick, Punta Gorda, Fla.; grandchildren, Neil and Kristy Arnold, Douglasville, Tommy and Elizabeth Jones, Powder Springs, Scott Jones, Frankford, Germany, Katie King, Jefferson, Anna King, Jefferson, Jenifer and Nicholas Cacciola, Conyers, Brett Watts, Griffin, and Robert Watts, Bremen; three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Carwood Mfg. retiree
WINDER - Fred Spies, 80, died Friday, February 2, 2001.
Born in Macon, Mr. Spies was a son of the late Gus and Arminda Owens Spies.
He was a former resident of Toccoa and had lived in Winder since 1971. Mr. Spies was a retiree of Carwood Manufacturing Company, Winder, and was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Winder.
Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, February 4, in the chapel of Carter Funeral Home, Winder, with the Rev. Terry Tippens officiating. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery.
Mr. Spies is survived by his wife, Imogene Spies, Winder; two daughters, Susan Yearwood, Winder, and Sally Leonard, Duluth; two sisters, Octavia Heidt, Albany, and Rose Mary Harbour, Chattanooga, Tenn.; and four grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the Winder First United Methodist Church, 280 North Broad Street, Winder, GA 30680.

BOGART - Mrs. Helen Mathis Cash, 83, died Friday, January 26, 2001.
Mrs. Cash was born in Oconee County, a daughter of the late Ollie and Maybell Tarpley Mathis.
She had resided in Bogart for the past 54 years and was a member of Hope Baptist Church. Mrs. Cash was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Mildred Dunn, and a brother, the Rev. Ollie Junior Mathis.
Funeral services were held at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, January 28, in the chapel of Carter Funeral Home, Winder, with the Rev. James H. Williams officiating. Burial was in Barrow Memorial Gardens. Bryan Cash, Scott Cash, Danny Cash, Chad Patrick, Stanley Patrick and Ronald Patrick served as pallbearers.
Mrs. Cash is survived by her husband, Louie Cash, Bogart; three daughters, Shirley Patrick and Patricia Klein, both of Statham, and Margaret Hall, Dacula; three sons, Eddie Cash and Jack Cash, both of Statham, and Joe Cash, Bogart; three sisters, Joyce Sellers, Perry, and Peggy Casper and Charlotte Edgar, both of Winder; one brother, the Rev. J.L. Mathis, Winder; 18 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

MAYSVILLE - Mrs. Dora B. Smith, 94, died Friday, February 2, 2001, at the BJC Nursing Center following an extended illness.
Mrs. Smith was born January 14, 1907, in Towns County, a daughter of the late David Jasper Underwood and Julia Elizabeth Clark.
She was a homemaker.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, February 4, in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Rev. Henry Webb officiating. Burial was in the Harmony Christian Church cemetery, Commerce.
Survivors include three sons, B. Paul Smith, Pleasanton, Calif., and Jack T. Smith and James R. Smith, both of Maysville; one daughter, Betty Sims, Byron; 18 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.

COMMERCE - Mrs. Aretha Lucille Brown, 82, died Tuesday, January 30, 2001, at BJC Medical Center, Commerce.
Mrs. Brown was born June 4, 1918, a daughter of the late Sam and Cora Chastain Waldroup. She was the wife of the late Telford Brown.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, February 1, in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Rev. Lonnie Bennett officiating. Burial was in Grey Hill Cemetery, Commerce.
Survivors include two daughters, Stella Mullinax and Annie Lee Waldroup, both of Commerce; one brother, Ralph Waldroup, Commerce; one sister, Katie May Wilson, Charleston, S.C.; eight grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Lois S. Smallwood
Mrs. Lois S. Smallwood, 78, of Loganville, died Tuesday, January 30, 2001, at Life Care Center of Lawrenceville.
Mrs. Smallwood was born October 13, 1922, in Jackson County. She was a homemaker and was a member of Blacks Creek Baptist Church.
Mrs. Smallwood was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh Aubrey Smallwood, and a son, Capt. Jackie Smallwood, who was reported missing in action in 1973.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Friday, February 2, at Blacks Creek Baptist Church with the Revs. Bill Carpenter and Lee Hunter officiating. Burial was in Grey Hill Cemetery, Commerce.
Survivors include son, Danny Smallwood, Lawrenceville; three brothers, Noble Sorrow, Brunswick, Charles Sorrow, Conyers, and Claude Sorrow, Crawford; three sisters, Montine Hardman, Commerce, Johnnie Spray, Crawford, and Grace Toney, Atlanta; and several nieces and nephews.

John H. Black
John Hoyt Black, of Hull, died Sunday, January 21, 2001.
A native of Madison County, Mr. Black was a son of the late David Lamar and Ethel Lucille Black.
He was retired from Westclox, with 38 years of service. Mr. Black was preceded in death by a brother, William David "W.D." Black.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, January 23, in the chapel of Lord & Stephens Funeral Home, East, Athens, with the Revs. E.L. "Steve" Stephens and Bill Wood officiating. Burial was in the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church cemetery.
Mr. Black is survived by his wife, Betty Lance Black; one daughter, Dawn King, Fayetteville, N.C.; two sons, David Black and the Rev. Barry Black, both of Hull; and six grandchildren.

Mrs. Willie L. Goss, 81, of Colbert, died Wednesday, January 17, 2001.
Born in Franklin County, Mrs. Goss was a daughter of the late Riley and Katie Jackson Crook.
She was a homemaker and was of the Baptist denomination. Mrs. Goss was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbur Goss.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Friday, January 19, in the chapel of Brown Funeral Home, Danielsville, with the Revs. Gettis Allen and Randell Starrett officiating. Burial was in Danielsville Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Goss' grandsons served as pallbearers.
Survivors include three daughters, Fanida Fleming, Willie Parham and Gwenette Chandler, all of Colbert; four sons, Mitchell Goss, Larry Goss, Ronnie Goss and Allen Goss, all of Colbert; 18 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Miss Gina Hill, 40, of Hull, died Saturday, January 20, 2001, at Scottland Memorial Hospital, Laurinburg, N.C.
Miss Hill was born July 23, 1960, in Atlanta. She was a daughter of Jean Hill, Maysville, and the late Clark Hill.
Miss Hill was employed with Red Lobster, Athens, and was of the Baptist denomination.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, January 23, at Ridgeway Baptist Church with the Rev. Bill Manus officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Miss Hill is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Miranda Jean and Stacy Batchelor Sr., Marston, N.C.; two grandchildren, Brittany and Stacy Jr.; her fiancé, Wes Roberts, Athens; five sisters, Cindy Baird and Christy Phelps, both of Maysville, Pat Clinton, Commerce, Marcia Sullivan, Wagram, N.C., and Jennifer Wright, Conyers; two brothers, Bill Hill, McDonough, and Obie Faulkner, Maysville; six nieces, 13 nephews, two great-nieces and one great-nephew.

William Dove
William "Garner" Dove, 56, of Royston, died Saturday, January 20, 2001, at Athens Heritage Home.
Mr. Dove was born April 29, 1944, in Franklin County, a son of Edna Ray Dove, Royston, and the late Rev. Hoyt Garner Dove.
He was retired from Monroe Auto Equipment and was employed with Con-Agra as a poultry farmer. Mr. Dove was a member of New Hope Worship Center.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Jimmy Dove.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, January 23, at New Hope Worship Center with the Revs. Dennis Kesler, Jonathan Randall, John Ingham and Buford Lockman officiating. Burial was in Franklin Memorial Gardens, South. Lee Carey, Joe Lockman, Eric Dove, Rodney Dove, David Ingham and Rex Norton served as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers included servicemen and office personnel of Con-Agra: Chris Jones, Columbia Farms; Pete Sisk, Con-Agra; and Gene Lambert, Con-Agra. Also, Kenny Smith, Josh Smith, Rusty Royston, John Fields, Francis Barnett, William Dove Sr., William Dove Jr., Buddy Dove, Bob Davis, Rufus Herring and Randy Royston.
Mr. Dove is survived by his wife, Judy Rice Dove, Royston; son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Alice Dove, Royston; son, Brent Dove, Royston; daughter and son-in-law, Christy and Walt Myers, Royston; brothers and sisters-in-law, Ray and Becky Dove, Danielsville, and Oral and Judy Dove, Athens; sisters and brothers-in-law, Marlene and Omer Lee Carey, Royston, Francis and Edward Hicks, Hartwell, and Joan and Buford Lockman and Rita and John Ingham, all of Athens; and grandchildren, Anna Elizabeth Dove, Ross Garner Dove, Brandon Franklin Myers and Jonathan Hoyt Myers, all of Royston.

A. Rufus Potts Jr., 65, of Hull, died Thursday, January 18, 2001.
A native of Union County, Mr. Potts was a son of the late Arthur Rufus Potts Sr. and Adell Thomas Potts.
He was a self-employed painter and a member of Ivey Log Baptist Church, Blairsville. Mr. Potts was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Mary Helen Bacon Potts.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 20, in the chapel of Bernstein Funeral Home, Athens, with the Revs. Mike Purdy and Luther Fouche officiating. Burial was in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.
Survivors include one son, David G. Potts, Hull; two brothers, Robert Potts, Morehead, Ky., and Winston Potts, Jesup; two sisters, Cora Potts Baxter, Athens, and Christine Tate, Blairsville; and three grandchildren, Amiee, Nikki and Danielle Potts, all of Hull.
