Charley N. Ridley
Services for Charley N. Ridley of Eastman were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 6 in Southerland Funeral Chapel in Eastman with Military Honors at graveside, interment in Zion Hope Cemetery.
The Rev. Bob Herrington and Dr. Joel Dent officiated.
Ridley, 78, died Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2003. He was the son of the late Hal Ridley and Jessie Nelson Ridley and widower of Louise Maddox Ridley.
He was a native of Harrelson County and had lived in Dodge County most of his life. He was a member of Chauncey United Methodist Church, a Veteran of the U.S. Army-Air Force, a farmer and retired supervisor for the Dodge County Road Department.
Survivors include his daughters, Karen Dunn and Glenda Graham, both of Eastman; sister, Lucy Carter of Gresston and three grandchildren.
Stokes-Southerland Funeral Home of Eastman was in charge of arrangements.
Walter L. Burch Gunn
Services for Walter L. Burch Gunn of McRae were held at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 5 at Macedonia Baptist Church with interment in the church cemetery.
The Rev. Ben Waller officiated.
Gunn, 85, died Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2003. He was the son of the late Frank and Flora McLeod Gunn and was married to Ruby Giddens Gunn of McRae.
A native and lifelong resident of Telfair County, he was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church, was a US Army veteran of the WWII and a retired farmer.
In addition to his wife, survivors include his daughter, Ann Jones of McRae; sons, Bobby Gunn and Charles Gunn, both of McRae, Frank Gunn of Shape, Belgium; sister, Mabell Ward of Lumber City; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren also survive.
Vaughn Funeral Home of McRae was in charge of arrangements.
Martha Lois Coleman Caldwell
Services for Martha Lois Coleman Caldwell of Atlanta were held at 1 p.m. Monday, Sept. 8 at the chapel of Vaughn Funeral Home with interment in the Zion Hope Church Cemetery.
The Rev. Matt Yawn officiated.
Caldwell, 86, died Saturday, Sept. 6, 2003. She was the daughter of the late William G. and Mattie Strickland Coleman and was the widow of James Guy Caldwell. She was a native of Atlanta and a homemaker.
Survivors include her sons, Gene Caldwell of St. Simons Island and Conrad Caldwell of Eulonia; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N. Michigan Avenue, Suite 1700, Chicago, Ill. 60601-7633.
Vaughn Funeral Home of McRae was in charge of arrangements.
Elvie Charlene Thigpen
Graveside services for Elvie Charlene Thigpen of Milan were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, August 28 at the Helena City Cemetery.
The Rev. Darrell Barlow officiated.
Thigpen, 46, died Tuesday, August 26, 2003. She was a native of Wheeler County and was a homemaker. She was the daughter of the late Charlie Thomas and Elvie Lee Johnson O’Neal.
Survivors included her son, Robert Luther Bridges of Milan; daughters, Crystal Leanelle Bridges of Dublin and Minnie Lee O’Neal of Milan; sister, Mattie Bell Lord of Milan; brothers, George Thomas O’Neal of Towns and Olin O’Neal of Helena; Terry George Brooks of Milan and six grandchildren.
Lowe’s Funeral Home of Helena was in charge of arrangements.
David Alexander Brownson
Services for David Alexander Brownson of Alamo were held at 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 1 at Towns Funeral Home in Alamo with interment in the city cemetery. The Rev. Richard Ribble of Atlanta and the Rev. George Nichles of Raleigh, Va. officiated.
Brownson, 49, died Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2003. He was the son of Dr. William Brownson of Holland, Mich. and was preceded in death by his brother, William C. Brownson.
A member of the Christ Memorial Church, he was a graduate of Holland High School, the University of Michigan and attended the Western Seminary for two years. He led “Dynamics in Living,” a support group for the mentally disabled for 12 years.
In addition to his parents, survivors include his brothers, Dr. James Brownson of Holland, Mich. and Dr. Jonathan C. Brownson of Hamilton, Mich. and several nieces and nephews.
Town’s Funeral Home of Alamo was in charge of arrangements.
Willie Duncan
Services for Willie Duncan of Lumber City were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 24 at St. John Missionary Baptist Church in Lumber City with interment in Cedar Grove Cemetery in Lumber City. The Rev. Joseph McLeod officiated.
Duncan, 54, died Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2003. He was the son of the Rev. Kirk Duncan and the late Ophelia Robinson McRae and was married to Shirley Duncan of Lumber City.
He was a native of Telfair County and was retired from Stouffer's Frozen Foods, Inc. after 25 years as a printing supervisor. He served as a corporal in the United States Marine Corp.
In addition to his father and wife, survivors include his stepmother, Mary Ann Duncan; grandmother, Vollie Garrett; sons, Lamar Duncan and Darrick Duncan, both of Lumber City and Timothy Tate of Cleveland, Ohio; daughter, Sonia T. Chandler of Cleveland, Ohio; brother, Samuel Duncan of Cleveland, Ohio; stepbrothers, Artis McRae of Cleveland, Ohio and Charles Brown of Lumber City; sisters, Genesta Allen of Atlanta, Mrytice Boyd of Savannah, Betty Joyce Garrey of Plainfield, N.J., Brenda-Gail Wilson of Irvington, N.J., Sarah Louise Evans of Savannah and Brenda Williams of Lumber City and four grandchildren.
A.L. Spaulding Funeral Home of McRae was in charge of arrangements.
Lucille Jones
Services for Lucille Jones of Glenwood were held at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 28 at the chapel of A.L. Spaulding Funeral Home with interment in Helena Cemetery. The Rev. Jonathan Seay officiated.
Jones, 91, died Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2003. She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John D. Hudgeon.
She was a native of Laurens County and resided in Glenwood.
Survivors include her sisters, Mary Troup of Alamo and Johnnie Mae Franklin of Ft. Pierce, Fla.; brothers, James Iver of Ft. Myers, Fla., Tom and Ira Lee Hudgeon of Warner Robins.

Myrtle Ruth King
Services for Myrtle Ruth King of McRae were held at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 1 at the chapel of Lowe’s Funeral Home with interment in Mt. Olivet Methodist Church Cemetery. The Rev. Greg Lowery and the Rev. Roy Locke officiated.
King, 78, died Saturday, Nov. 29, 2003. She was the daughter of the late Robert Gordon and Ida Clarke Locke and was the widow of Gilford King.
She was a native of Dodge County and had resided in Telfair County most of her life. She was a member of Mt. Olivet Methodist Church and was a homemaker.
Survivors include her sons, Wayne King of McRae, Bobby King of Caldwell, and Donald King of Dexter; daughter, Gail Macke of Columbus; 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Lowe’s Funeral Home of Helena was in charge.
Lessie Mae Yancey Law
Services for Lessie Mae Yancey Law of Eastman were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 30 in the chapel of Southerland Funeral Home with interment in Bowen Cemetery. The Rev. Jim Faircloth and the Rev. Roy Locke officiated.
Law, 95, died Friday, Nov. 28, 2003. She was the daughter of the late Daniel Campbell Yancey and Kizzie Pitts Yancey. She was the widow of Jim C. Law and was preceded in death by her son, John Daniel Law.
She was the oldest member of New Daniels Baptist Church and was a homemaker.
Survivors include her sisters, Zesta Hilliard and Catherine Yawn, both of Rhine and Alene Wilson of Abbeville; two granddaughters; and two great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers the family request Bible donations be made to Gideons International, P.O. Box 4842, Eastman, 31023.

Mitchell Arthur Selph
Services for Mitchell Arthur Selph of Thomaston were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 30 at the chapel of Coggins Funeral Home in Thomaston with interment in Crystal Hill Cemetery in Thomaston. The Rev. Roy Grimes officiated.
Selph, 75, died Friday, Nov. 28, 2003. He was the son of Scarbourgh Selph and Mattie Davis Selph and was married to Wyolene Selph of Thomaston.
A native of Telfair County, he had lived in the Thomaston area for many years. He was retired from Thomaston Mills where he worked for over 28 years as an electrician. He was a member of Red Hill Holiness Church in Milan.
In addition to his wife, survivors include his son, Bobby R. Selph of Stockridge and Kenneth Selph of Macon; brothers, Luther Selph, Roy Selph, and Russell Selph, all of McRae; sisters, Opal Grimes of McRae and Lois Towns of Milan; one grandchild and two great-grandchildren.
Coggins Funeral Home of Thomaston was in charge of arrangements.
