WINDER - Dwight "Bat" Boggus, 40, died Tuesday, February 13, 2001, at Winder Community Hospital.
Born in Barrow County, Mr. Boggus had worked in construction and for the City of Winder.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, February 15, in Smith's Memory Chapel of Smith Funeral Home, Winder, with the Revs. Frankie Green and Montana Birt officiating and the Rev. Steve Wilson giving the eulogy. Burial will be in Barrow Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Boggus is survived by his wife, Carol Wilson Boggus, Winder; father and step-mother, Willie Lee and Peggy Boggus, Homer; mother and step-father, Betty Nix and Grady McCannon, Crawford; one daughter, Tonya Elizabeth Boggus, Winder; four sisters, Darlene Maddox, Bethlehem, Lynn Serviss, New Port Richey, Fla., and Neldie Hardy and Martha Medcalf, both of Arcade; two brothers, David Boggus, Statham, and Mark Boggus, Bethlehem; one half-brother, Michael Boggus, Homer; and three step-brothers, Robert "Chuck" Hill and Timothy William Hill, both of Homer, and Richard "Chip" Hill, Jefferson.
The family was to have received friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

MAYSVILLE - Mrs. Joyce O. Pennock, 76, died Thursday, February 8, 2001, at Tanner Medical Center.
Mrs. Pennock was born November 12, 1924, in Georgia.
She was a homemaker.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, February 11, in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Rev. Edwin Smith officiating. Burial was in the Riverside Baptist Church cemetery, Maysville.
Survivors include two daughters, Pat Schonburge Greenwood, Chicago, Ill., and Tiffany Pennock, Temple; one sister, Cora Hall, Maysville; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Mother of four
COMMERCE - Mrs. Emma A. Stitt, 84, died Monday, February 12, 2001, at her residence following an extended illness.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, February 15, at Silver Shoals Baptist Church with the Revs. David Bowen and Perry Smith officiating. The body will be placed in the church at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Survivors include son and daughter-in-law, Ronnie and Cynthia Hubbard, Commerce; daughters and sons-in-law, Doria A. and Q.D. Hubbard Jr., Maysville, Joan and Joel Pritchard, Maysville, and Gay and Tim Painter, Baldwin; two brothers, Garfield Arnold, McDonough, and Charlie Arnold, Homer; two sisters, Dora Long, Longcreek, S.C., and Louis Fincannon, Homer; 14 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

Mechanic
GROVELAND, FLA. - Alvin Wood, 62, formerly of Gainesville, died Monday, February 5, 2001, at Empire Care of Clermont in Groveland, Fla.
Mr. Wood was born in Banks County on October 14, 1938, a son of the late Ray Wood and Cleo Nichols Wood.
He had worked as a mechanic for Silver Springs Citrus.
Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, February 11, in Wilson Church cemetery with the Rev. Tom Etterlee officiating.
Mr. Wood is survived by his wife, Patricia Wood, Groveland, Fla.; four sons, Dwight Wood, Clermont, Mark Wood, Gainesville, Tracy Medors, Sumter, and Howard Lee Medors, Sumter County, Fla.; four daughters, Denise Wood and Karen Parks, both of Gainesville, Michelle Crose, Ripley, Miss., and Pamela Peterson, Leesburg, Fla.; one brother, Thomas Wood, Athens; five sisters, Frances Hill and Deana Bolton, both of Atlanta, Edna Brown and Judy Prichett, both of Commerce, and Betty Taylor, Douglas; and 14 grandchildren.

MR. WOODS
Former prison guard
MAYSVILLE - Ed Woods, 70, died Friday, February 9, 2001, at BJC Medical Center, Commerce.
Mr. Woods was born April 22, 1930, a son of the late John and Maude Strickland Woods.
He had been employed with the State of Georgia as a prison guard.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, February 12, in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Rev. Will Herring officiating. Burial was in Rabun County Memorial Park, Clayton.
Mr. Woods is survived by his wife, Genie S. Woods, Maysville; two sons, Danny Woods, Homer, and Michael E. Woods, Maysville; two daughters, Johnnie Flores, Gainesville, and Edna Funderburk, Danielsville; one sister, Bill Scarbough, Ila; 15 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Stanley G. Jordan
Stanley Gene Jordan, 64, of Arnoldsville, former chief investigator for the District Attorney's Office, died Thursday, February 15, 2001, from injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident.
A native of Clarke County, Mr. Jordan was a son of the late Dillard and Ruby Oldham Jordan.
He was employed with the District Attorney's Office from May 1978 until his retirement on December 31, 2000. Prior to joining the District Attorney's Office, Mr. Jordan worked as chief of detectives for the Clarke County Police Department from May 1974 until May 1978. He was one of the original officers who formed the Clarke County Police Department, having left his position as supervising investigator with the University of Georgia Police Department.
Mr. Jordan was an alumnus of the University of Georgia and served with the U.S. Army in Germany.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, February 17, in the chapel of Lord & Stephens Funeral Home, East, with the Rev. Tim Hammond officiating. Burial was in Evergreen Memorial Park. Ronald Chandler, Bill Dean, Gerald Guntharp, Jimmy Collinsworth, Harry Thomas and Jimmy Carroll served as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were former co-workers and associates from the District Attorney's Office during Mr. Jordan's last 10 years of employment.
Survivors include one daughter, Suzanne Jordan, Winterville; two sons, Jeffery Jordan, Winterville, and Neal Jordan, Colbert; two sisters, Trilby Harris, Athens, and Frieda Jordan, North Palm Beach, Fla.; two brothers, Kenneth Jordan, Monroe, and Mitchell Jordan, Tampa, Fla.; seven grandchildren, Matthew Jordan, Leighanne Jordan, Christopher Jordan, Bailee Jordan, Logan Jordan, April Hogue and Valerie Hogue; and nine nieces and nephews.

Ruby G. Ward
Mrs. Ruby Gillespie Ward, 83, of Flowery Branch, died Thursday, February 15, 2001.
Mrs. Ward was a native of Jackson County. She was a member of the Fountain of Faith Congregational Holiness Church.
Funeral services were held at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, February 18, in the chapel of Flanigan Funeral Home, Buford, with the Revs. Blake Foster and James Vickers officiating. Burial was in the Fountain of Faith Congregational Holiness Church cemetery.
Survivors include her husband of 65 years, Stoy Ward, Flowery Branch; daughters and sons-in-law, Louise and Doyle Foster, Statham, Shirley and David Scogin, Colbert, Pat and Alan Martyn, Athens, and Deborah and Donald Jennings, Flowery Branch; sons and daughters-in-law, Johnny and Jane Ward, Ft. Valley, and Jimmy and Beverly Ward, Flowery Branch; son-in-law, Ferrell "Cotton" Bray, Flowery Branch; sisters, Ann Chastain, Greenville, S.C., and Frances Moon, Marietta; brothers, Sloan Gillespie, Murrayville, and Cecil Gillespie, Athens; 24 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

John C. Wofford
John C. Wofford, 86, of Commerce, died Wednesday, February 14, 2001, at BJC Nursing Home, Commerce.
A native of Banks County, Mr. Wofford was born April 10, 1914, a son of the late James David and Vester Haggard Wofford.
He was retired from Roper Pump Company. Mr. Wofford was preceded in death by a daughter, Jane Watson.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, February 16, in the chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, with Jerry Payne officiating. Burial was in Jackson Memorial Gardens, Commerce.
Mr. Wofford is survived by his wife, Louise Owenby Wofford, Commerce; three sons, Jimmy Bray and Clay Wofford, both of Commerce, and Curtis Wofford, Clayton; five daughters, Alice Colquitt, Lexington, Lou Ann David and Trell Wilson, both of Commerce, Vester Hardman, Athens, and Elaine Rucker, Elberton; one brother, Jessie Wofford, Locust Grove; two sisters, Syble Farmer, Jonesboro, and Agnes Maxwell, Commerce; 18 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

William Venable Jr.
William Venable Jr., 50, of Commerce, died Sunday, February 18, 2001, at BJC Medical Center, Commerce.
A native of Jackson County, Mr. Venable was born February 9, 1951, a son of William Venable Sr. and Annie Ruth Standridge Venable, Commerce.
He was retired from the U.S. Air Force and was a member of Living Word Worship Center.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, February 22, in the chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Revs. Dennis Kesler, Howard Rhodes and Ronald Wilson officiating. Burial will be in Howington Cemetery, Nicholson.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Venable is survived by his wife, Roberta Wilson Venable, Commerce; one son, Larry Venable, Copperas Cove, Texas; one brother, Allen Venable, Lula; two sisters, Connie Garner, Maysville, and Diane Matthews, Commerce; and three grandchildren.

Mrs. Jackie Dianne Potts, 51, of Commerce, died Saturday, February 10, 2001, at BJC Medical Center, Commerce, following an extended illness.
A native of Jackson County, Mrs. Potts was a daughter of the late Jack and Dorothy Hogwood Langston. She was the widow of James Thomas Potts.
Mrs. Potts had been employed with BJC Medical Center.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Monday, February 12, in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Revs. Donald Wilson and Charles Hardy officiating. Burial was in Grey Hill Cemetery, Commerce.
Survivors include one daughter, Shannon Potts, Commerce; one brother, David Potts, Hull; one sister, Regena Knight, Commerce; and one grandson.
