MAYSVILLE - Mrs. Fannie Cowart, 79, a homemaker, died Friday, February 16, 2001, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center, Gainesville.
Mrs. Cowart was born March 8, 1921, a daughter of the late Hoyt and Mary Olive Day Adams.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Hiram Shewbert, and her second husband, Hoyt Cowart.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, February 18, at Maysville Baptist Church with the Revs. Brian Stowe and Les Vinluan officiating. Burial was in Gillsville Cemetery, Gillsville.
Survivors include one son, James Shewbert, Powder Springs; one daughter, Jo Ann Crumley, Maysville; one sister, Martha Buffington, Norcross; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

MRS. WESTMORELAND
Housewife
MAYSVILLE - Mrs. Aldah L. Westmoreland, 86, died Monday, February 19, 2001, at BJC Medical Center, Commerce.
Mrs. Westmoreland was born November 27, 1914, a daughter of the late Columbus V. and Ann Jeanetta McDonald Wilson.
She was a housewife.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, February 21, at Maysville Baptist Church with the Rev. Brian Stowe officiating. Burial was in Grey Hill Cemetery, Commerce.
Mrs. Westmoreland is survived by her husband, Otis Westmoreland, Maysville; one daughter, Mariane Wilson, Greenville, S.C.; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Clarence W. Drake
Clarence Walter Drake, 63, of Colbert, died Sunday, March 4, 2001.
Born in Clarke County, Mr. Drake was a son of Nancy Helen Drake, Elberton, and the late Guy Thomas Drake Sr.
He had lived in the Colbert area most of his life and had worked for Dairypak. Mr. Drake was a member of Colbert United Methodist Church.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 7, at Colbert United Methodist Church with the Revs. Grady Wigley and James Haralson officiating. Burial was in the Kidd Family Cemetery, Colbert. Kenneth Daniel, Dennis Daniel, John Dove, Wesley Gordon, Randy Sharp and Tony Tittle served as pallbearers.
In addition to his mother, Mr. Drake is survived by his wife, Rachel Drake, Colbert; five daughters, Madonna Sharp and Joy Dove, both of Colbert, Melinda Williams, Fayetteville, N.C., and Betty Jean Tittle and Tonya Tittle, both of Athens; two sons, Mark Drake and Michael Drake, both of Colbert; two brothers, Henry Drake, Colbert, and Darrell Drake, Madisonville, Ky.; one sister, Thelma Daniel, Colbert; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Bobby A. Chandler
Bobby Alan Chandler, 59, of Comer, died Thursday, March 1, 2001.
A native of Comer, Mr. Chandler was the son of Roy and Evelyn Chandler, Comer.
He was a graduate of Reinhardt College, Waleska, with an associate of arts in liberal arts. Mr. Chandler was corporate director with Empire Manufacturing Company, Winder, from 1970 until 1996 and was vice president of operations with Scraps International, Winder, from 1996 to 1999.
He was named in Outstanding Young Men in America, received the Eagle Scout Award with Boy Scouts of America and served as local and state officer with the U.S. Jaycees.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 3, in the chapel of Lord & Stephens Funeral Home, Danielsville, with the Revs. Mark Palmer, Dayton Logan and Joe Dooley officiating. Burial was in the Meadow Baptist Church cemetery. Tommy Simmons, David Timms, Eric Timms, Nick Eavenson, Campbell Hawkins, Allen Collins and Gary Chandler served as pallbearers.
Survivors, in addition to his parents, include his wife, Brenda Timms Chandler; two sons, David Alan Chandler, Greenville, S.C., and Patrick Darin Chandler, Watkinsville; one step-son, Matthew Donald Maddox, Comer; one sister, Carole C. Simmons, Danielsville; two grandchildren and one step-grandchild.

John T. Adams
John T. Adams, 71, of Comer, died Wednesday, February 28, 2001.
Born in Clarke County, Mr. Adams was a son of the late Ola Mell and Oakley Wheless Adams.
He was retired from the U.S. Navy, serving in Vietnam and the Korean Conflict, and was retired from the Athens Postal Service. Mr. Adams was preceded in death by his wife, Rebecca Threlkeld Adams, and a son, Kurt Adams.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 3, at New Hope Presbyterian Church, Paoli, with the Rev. David Strickland officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Kelly Patat, Cliff Chambers, Robert McLocklin, Greg Threlkeld, Howard Threlkeld and Mutt Faulkner served as pallbearers.
Survivors include one daughter, Joan Price, Cary, N.C.; four sons, Keith Adams, Cary Adams and Gary Adams, all of Comer, and Kent Adams, Colbert; one sister, Celeste Betts, Athens; and five grandchildren.

Ruby S. Pinckard
Mrs. Ruby S. Pinckard, 80, of Colbert, died Thursday, March 1, 2001.
A native of Randolph County, Ala., Mrs. Pinckard was a daughter of the late Benjamin and Leola Ward Stephens.
She had been a resident of Colbert since 1953 and was retired from ASCS in Danielsville. Mrs. Pinckard was a member of Kings Way Bible Church, Comer.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar W. Pinckard.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 3, in the chapel of Lord & Stephens Funeral Home, Danielsville, with the Rev. Gordon Rhoden officiating. Burial was in Randolph Memory Gardens, Roanoke, Ala.
Survivors include son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Pat Pinckard, Colbert; sister and brother-in-law, Frances and Frank Carden, Anniston, Ala.; sisters, Mary Daniel, Auburn, Ala., and Ethel Ferguson, Anniston, Ala.; grandchildren and spouses, Kay and Rodney Clifton, Comer, and Chris and Brandy Pinckard, Colbert; and two great-granddaughters, Maura and Lauren Clifton.

Michael Austin
Michael Rogers Austin, 46, of Commerce, died Wednesday, February 28, 2001, at his residence.
Mr. Austin was born December 24, 1954, in Jackson County, a son of the late Dewey W. and Willie Mae Akins Austin.
Mr. Austin was employed as a welder and was a member of Little Country Church.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 3, at Little Country Church with the Rev. Jimmy Owensby officiating. Burial was in Howington Cemetery, Nicholson.

George L. Martyn
George Lester Martyn, 90, of Watkinsville, formerly of Athens, died Friday, March 2, 2001.
A native of Oglesby, Ill., Mr. Martyn was a son of the late George and Elizabeth Entwistle Martyn.
He had made his home in Athens since 1955 and was retired from General Time. Following retirement, Mr. Martyn was employed with Barron's Rental Center for 10 years. He was a member of Athens First United Methodist Church.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 6, at Lord & Stephens Funeral Home, West, with the Rev. Grady Wigley officiating. Entombment was in Evergreen Memorial Park. Charlie Barron Sr., Irvin Escoe, Gary Escoe, David Potts, Doyle Foster and Kyle Pregler served as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were General Time retirees and employees.
Survivors include his wife, Eleanor Martyn, Watkinsville, formerly of Athens; sons and daughters-in-law, Alan and Patricia Martyn, Athens, and Gerry and Eunice Martyn, Carrollton, Ohio; three sisters, Jeannie Zens, Myrt Martyn and Patricia Martyn, all of Oglesby, Ill.; brothers, Bill Zens and Harold Martyn, both of Oglesby, Ill.; brother and sister-in-law, Gordon and Clara Martyn, Joliette, Ill.; grandchildren and spouses, Alanda and Mike Escoe, Ronnie Martyn, Thomas and Gerri Martyn, Sabrina Fowler and Cassandra Pregler; eight great-grandchildren, Jessica Martyn, Becka Martyn, Aimee Potts, Brittany Martyn, Chase Martyn, Hunter Martyn, Laura Butler and Adam Escoe; and a number of nieces and nephews.

D.T. Evans, 72, of Commerce, died Monday, March 5, 2001, at BJC Medical Center, Commerce.
Mr. Evans was born October 12, 1928, in Jackson County, a son of the late Traud and Mary Evans.
He was a retired logger.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 7, in the chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Revs. Doug Duncan and Donald Wilson officiating. Burial was in the Harmony Christian Church cemetery.
Mr. Evans is survived by his wife, Vernelle Beck Evans, Commerce; four sons, James Evans and Leon Evans, both of Commerce, Troy Evans, Jack, Ala., and Frankie Evans; two daughters, Shirley David, Jefferson, and Janet Morgan, Commerce; one sister, Rachel Massey, Jefferson; 21 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Ruth A. Higgins
Mrs. Ruth Ann Higgins, 66, of Danielsville, died Saturday, March 3, 2001.
A native of Athens, Ohio, Mrs. Higgins was a daughter of the late Walter and Dorothy Carsey Graham.
She was employed with Wal-Mart. Mrs. Higgins was preceded in death by a daughter, Leslie Sewell.
Mrs. Higgins is survived by her husband, James Curtis Higgins; one daughter, Linda Susan Morrison, Ila; one son, Billy Sewell, Florida; one brother, Pearl Graham, Ohio; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
