MAYSVILLE - Mrs. Estelle E. Hooper, 89, died Wednesday, January 19, 2000, at BJC Medical Center, Commerce.
Mrs. Hooper was born July 14, 1910, in Homer. She was a daughter of the late Colonel and Vassie Ayers Shubert.
Mrs. Hooper had worked as a seamstress with Blue Bell Manufacturing.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Claude Hooper, a son, Kenneth Hooper, two brothers, Weldon and Dillard Shubert, and a sister, Grace Reid.
Funeral services were held Friday, January 21, at Maysville Baptist Church with the Revs. Bob Watson, Bob Scruton and Brian Stowe officiating. Burial was in the Silver Shoals Baptist Church cemetery, Homer.
Mrs. Hooper is survived by a daughter-in-law, Jennell Hooper, Maysville; and a sister-in-law, Annie B. Shubert, Maysville.

MR. RUCKER
Jefferson native
JEFFERSON - Ezekiel Rucker died Wednesday, January 19, 2000.
Mr. Rucker was born June 29, 1945, in Jefferson. He was a son of Sandy and Sarah Rucker, Jefferson.
Mr. Rucker received his education from the Jefferson school system and joined Old Sardis Church at an early age under the leadership of the Rev. James Robinson.
He was an employee of Jefferson Mills and had been employed with Studivant's Service Center until his failed health.
Funeral services were held Saturday, January 22, at Sardis Presbyterian Church, Jefferson. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Survivors, in addition to his parents, include his wife, Katherine (Sally Ann) M. Rucker; two step-children, Michael Williams and Dorothy Collins; two sisters, Dorothy Ann Gaithers, Athens, and Eloise Beasley, Gainesville; two brothers, Eglesper Rucker, Jefferson, and Cecil Rucker, Atlanta; sister-in-law, Evelyn Bloodshaw; brother-in-law, Pastor Bobby Bloodshaw; four aunts, Lucy Johnson, Odessia Newton, Mildred Johnson and Activa Usher; one uncle, Richard Johnson; four grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

HOSCHTON - Joseph Gordon Tillman, 59, died Saturday, January 22, 2000, at Atlanta Medical Center, following injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
Mr. Tillman was born August 11, 1940, in Jasper County. He was a son of the late Henry Leon and Sarah McElheney Tillman.
Mr. Tillman was employed as a mail carrier with the U.S. Postal Service. He was a member of the Rockwell Masonic Lodge.
Memorial services were held Tuesday, January 25, in the chapel of Evans Funeral Home, Jefferson.
Survivors include his wife, Patsy Richardson Tillman; one son, Randy Tillman, Mililani, Hawaii; two daughters, Jona Consentino, Winder, and Rachel Marshall, Gainesville; two sisters, Rena Wilson, Warner Robins, and Beth Layson, Lawrenceville; one brother, Mack Tillman, Monticello; and seven grandchildren, Joey, Lia, Tommy, Sean, Heather, Michael and John.

BUCHANAN - Mrs. Mary Ann Ertzberger, 61, sister of Lewis Minnix, Commerce, died Friday, January 21, 2000.
Mrs. Ertzberger was born in Atlanta.
Funeral services were held Monday, January 24, in the chapel of L.W. McDonald & Son Funeral Home, Cumming.
Survivors, in addition to her brother, include her husband, Marvin Ertzberger; daughter and son-in-law, Teresa and Mike Carson, Cumming; four sons, Russell Ertzberger, Troyce Ertzberger and Rodney Ertzberger, all of Buchanan, and Tony Ertzberger, Cumming; one sister, Sylvia Minnix, Atlanta; brother, Terry Minnix, Buchanan; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

MAYSVILLE - Mrs. Maybelle Baugh Smith, 82, died Sunday, January 23, 2000, at Athens Regional Medical Center following an extended illness.
A native of Jackson County, Mrs. Smith was a daughter of the late Andrew and Cynthia Cagle Baugh.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Oliver Smith.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, January 25, in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Commerce. Burial was in the Grove Level Baptist Church cemetery.
Survivors include three sons, Hoyt Eugene Smith, Atlanta, Calvin Smith, Homer, and Randy Smith, Liberty, S.C.; one daughter, Mrs. Geraldine Brake, Maysville; one brother, Juluis Baugh, Maysville; one sister, Imogene Wilson, Gillsville; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

MR. STOUDENMIRE

MAXEYS - James D. Stoudenmire Sr., 59, died Friday, January 21, 2000.
A native of Uniontown, Ala., Mr. Stoudenmire was a son of Mary Hill Engler, Maxeys, and the late Julian D. Stoudenmire.
Moving from Jefferson, he had lived in the Maxeys area for 19 years.
Mr. Stoudenmire served as an assistant principal and a physical education teacher for the last 35 years. During this time, he also coached football for a total of 32 years. Beginning in Jefferson, he served for 17 years, two years in the Monroe area and the last 13 years at Oglethorpe County High.
Mr. Stoudenmire was of the Baptist denomination.
Funeral services were held Sunday, January 23, at Lexington Baptist Church, Lexington, with the Revs. Harry Warren, Billy Tucker and George Hall officiating. Burial was in Clarke Cemetery. Bill Nunnally, Cooper Dyer, Hamilton Weston, Billy Sanders, Jim Lofton and Jimmy Germany served as pallbearers.
Survivors, in addition to his mother, include his wife, Carlene C. Stoudenmire; sons and daughters-in-law, Jim and Melanie Stoudenmire, Jefferson, Ken and Lisa Stoudenmire, Pelham, and Tim and Penni Stoudenmire, Madison; daughter and son-in-law, Leigh and Brent Griffiths, Winterville; and two granddaughters, Rachel and Rebecca Stoudenmire, both of Jefferson.

COMMERCE - Lofton Benton, 83, died Sunday, January 23, 2000, at St. Mary's Hospital, Athens.
Mr. Benton was born April 10, 1916, in Jackson County. He was a son of the late William McDaniel and Mary Frances Porter Benton.
Mr. Benton was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served during World War II, and was retired from Blue Bell Manufacturing. He was a member of Mount Olive Baptist Church.
Mr. Benton was preceded in death by his wife, Margie Hood Benton.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, January 25, in the chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Revs. Brad Wilson and Verlin Reese officiating. Burial was in Jackson Memorial Gardens, Commerce.
Survivors include two daughters, Glenda Herbert, Commerce, and Michelle Jacobs, Macon; one sister, Dannie Lee Wilbanks, Commerce; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

WINDER - John L. Hooper, 70, died Friday, January 21, 2000, at his residence following an extended illness.
Mr. Hooper was born March 19, 1930, in Hall County. He was a son of the late Eston V. Hooper Sr. and Hattie Hooper.
Mr. Hooper was a retired bricklayer and was a member of the Bricklayers Union.
Funeral services were held Saturday, January 22, in the chapel of Evans Funeral Home, Jefferson. Burial was in the Sugar Hill Baptist Church cemetery, Hall County.
Survivors include four sons, John Wayne Hooper, Belton, S.C., Geryl Hooper, Social Circle, and Randy Hooper and Gary Hooper, both of Winder; one sister, Ruby Jack Walsh, Sacramento, Calif.; two brothers, Eston V. Hooper Jr., Commerce, and Horace Hooper, Waco, Texas; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

MAYSVILLE - Mrs. Clarice Morris, 73, died Saturday, January 22, 2000, at BJC Medical Center, Commerce, following an extended illness.
A native of Hall County, Mrs. Morris had lived in Jackson County for the past four years. She had lived most of her life in Hall and Lumpkin counties.
Mrs. Morris was a homemaker and a member of Browns Chapel Church, Lumpkin County. She was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. W.L. "Luke" Morris.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, January 25, at Browns Chapel Church with the Revs. Bobby Scott and Junior Evans officiating. Burial was in the Springway Baptist Church cemetery, Hall County.
Survivors include son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Diane Massey, Maysville; one brother, Lewis Allen, Blue Ridge; six grandchildren, one great-grandchild and several other relatives.

MACON - James Utah Deaton, 85, formerly of Barrow County, died Wednesday, January 19, 2000.
Mr. Deaton was a son of the late Thomas and Mattie Parks Deaton.
He was a retired grocery store owner and was a member of Riverside United Methodist Church, where he attended the Harold Beatty Sunday School Class.
Funeral services were held Sunday, January 23, in the chapel of Ingleside Funeral Home, Macon, with the Rev. Ronnie Culpepper officiating.
Survivors include son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Teresa Deaton, Jesup; daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl and Bob Green, Northville, Mich.; daughter, Angela Vickers, Jacksonville, Fla.; brother and sister-in-law, Golden and Opal Deaton, Hoschton; and seven grandchildren.
