DANIELSVILLE - Mrs. Esther Hulsey Burden, 83, died Saturday, January 29, 2000, at her residence.
Mrs. Burden was born November 24, 1916, in Madison County. She was a daughter of the late Isiah Zade and Pearlie Ann Bridges Hulsey.
Mrs. Burden was a retired seamstress and a member of Friendship Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, L.C. Burden.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, February 1, at Friendship Baptist Church with the Revs. Dayton Logan and Mark Palmer officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Mr. Burden's grandsons served as pallbearers.
Survivors include three daughters, Brenda Joyce Floyd, Anderson, S.C., Patricia Anne Binns, Travelers Rest, S.C., and Donna Jean Lakey, Adona, Ark.; four sons, Rupert Kendell Dean, Wayne Douglas Dean and James Tony Dean, all of Danielsville, and Dwight Winston Dean, Nicholson; three sisters, Edna Anderson and Mazelle Stowe, both of Toccoa, and Beatrice Drake, Danielsville; one brother, Oren Hulsey, Eastanollee; 15 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

MR. ALLEN
Jefferson Mills retiree
JEFFERSON - Gerald Allen, 61, died Sunday, January 30, 2000, at his residence.
Mr. Allen was born May 16, 1938, in Porterdale, Ga. He was a son of the late Morrison and Huldie F. Allen.
Mr. Allen was retired from Jefferson Mills and was a member of Grace Baptist Church, Newton County. He was preceded in death by his wife, Johnie Hammonds Allen.
A memorial service was held Wednesday, February 2, in the chapel of Jackson Funeral Home, Jefferson, with the Rev. Eric Shelton officiating. A private burial service was held.
Survivors include two daughters, Joanne Ashworth, Mansfield, and Judy Ordway, Butler, Ind.; one sister, Shirley Beck, Peachtree City; three brothers, Calvin Jackson Allen, Fayetteville, N.C., James Morrison Allen, Norcross, and Troy Allen, Jefferson; five grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

MR. BERRY
Former Commerce resident
KENNESAW - Robert S. "Chip" Berry, 49, formerly of Commerce, died Thursday, January 27, 2000, at Kennestone Hospital.
Mr. Berry was born September 25, 1950, in Habersham County. He was a son of the late Robert S. and Josephine Andrews Berry.
Funeral services were held Saturday, January 29, in the chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Rev. Warren Huddleston officiating. Entombment was in Stephens Memorial Garden, Toccoa.
Mr. Berry is survived by four cousins, Jimmy Andrews, Thomasville, N.C., Mike Andrews, Kennesaw, Rusty Andrews, Charlotte, N.C., and Kim Newman, Bristol, Tenn.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, the Heart Association or to the Cerebral Palsy Foundation.

MRS. ALEXANDER
Hairdresser
WINDER - Mrs. Jane Willoughby Alexander, 53, died Tuesday, February 1, 2000.
A native and lifelong resident of Barrow County, Mrs. Alexander was a daughter of the late Herschel and Eva Wallace Willoughby.
Mrs. Alexander was a hairdresser and had operated Southern Shears Beauty Shop with her sister. She was a member of Chapel Christian Church, the Winder Pilot Club and a member of the Winder Hairdresser's Affiliate.
Mrs. Alexander was preceded in death by two brothers, A.J. Willoughby and Billy Willoughby.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, February 3, in the chapel of Carter Funeral Home, Winder, with the Rev. Jim Stephens officiating. Burial will be in Barrow Memorial Gardens.
Survivors include her husband, Jerry Alexander; daughter and son-in-law, Tonya and Chris Royal, Winder; sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and Nathan Peters, Winder; brother, Jimmy Willoughby, Statham; and an aunt, Mazie Austin, Winder.
The family was to have received friends from 11 a.m. until 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

DANIELSVILLE - Mrs. Lillie Muriel Barrett Wilkie, 76, died Friday, January 28, 2000, at Cobb Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Wilkie was born April 27, 1923, in Banks County. She was a daughter of the late William A. and Myrtle Allen Barrett.
Mrs. Wilkie was a homemaker and a member of Community Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held Monday, January 31, in the chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Rev. David Strickland officiating. Burial was in Jackson Memorial Gardens, Commerce.
Survivors include her husband, James E. Wilkie; two sons, Major William D. Wilkie, Hampton, Va., and Ronald S. Wilkie, Cleveland; one brother, Charles E. Barrett, Stockbridge; one sister, Bessie Wheeler, Danielsville; and eight grandchildren.
MRS. BUTTS

ATLANTA - Mrs. Florence S. Butts, 82, died Friday, January 28, 2000, at Walton County Medical Center, Monroe, following an extended illness.
Mrs. Butts was born December 10, 1917, in Philadelphia, Pa. She was a daughter of the late Charles P. and Geanette Gumpert Schou.
Mrs. Butts served in the U.S. Army Nurse Corps during World War II in North Africa, where she met her future husband, a captain in the Army.
She lived most of her life in Monroe, but was a resident of Athens and Atlanta during her last years.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, February 1, at St. Alban's Episcopal Church, Monroe, in which she was a member. Burial was in Rest Haven Cemetery, Monroe.
Survivors include her husband, Joel Bernard Butts; two daughters, Barbara Beardsley, Commerce, and Susan Foster, Atlanta; two sisters, Georgine Mulholland, Rutland, Vt., and Dorothy Metzler, Ambler, Pa.; and four grandchildren.

COMER - Terry Leonard Kitchens, 42, died Saturday, January 29, 2000.
A native of Jackson County, Mr. Kitchens was a son of the late Lovic and Estelle Roberts Kitchens.
Graveside services were held Monday, January 31, in the Indian Creek Baptist Church cemetery, Franklin County.
Survivors include his wife, Annie Ruth Kitchens; two daughters, Kerry Marie Kitchens, Comer, and Amy Marie Mathis, Homer; one son, Timothy Leonard Kitchens, Commerce; two sisters, Ruth Vaughn, Homer, and Joyce K. Brock, Danielsville; one brother, James Edward Kitchens, Danielsville; and one grandson.

MAYSVILLE - Mrs. Maybelle Baugh Smith, 82, died Sunday, January 23, 2000, at Athens Regional Medical Center following an extended illness.
A native of Jackson County, Mrs. Smith was a daughter of the late Andrew and Cynthia Cagle Baugh.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Oliver Smith.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, January 25, in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Commerce. Burial was in the Grove Level Baptist Church cemetery.
Survivors include three sons, Hoyt Eugene Smith, Atlanta, Calvin Smith, Homer, and Randy Smith, Liberty, S.C.; one daughter, Mrs. Geraldine Brake, Maysville; one brother, Juluis Baugh, Maysville; one sister, Imogene Wilson, Gillsville; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

MAYSVILLE - Mrs. Clarice Morris, 73, died Saturday, January 22, 2000, at BJC Medical Center, Commerce, following an extended illness.
A native of Hall County, Mrs. Morris had lived in Jackson County for the past four years. She had lived most of her life in Hall and Lumpkin counties.
Mrs. Morris was a homemaker and a member of Browns Chapel Church, Lumpkin County. She was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. W.L. "Luke" Morris.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, January 25, at Browns Chapel Church with the Revs. Bobby Scott and Junior Evans officiating. Burial was in the Springway Baptist Church cemetery, Hall County.
Survivors include son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Diane Massey, Maysville; one brother, Lewis Allen, Blue Ridge; six grandchildren, one great-grandchild and several other relatives.

Habersham County native
CORNELIA - Melvin H. Rich, 53, died Sunday, January 23, 2000.
A native of Habersham County, Mr. Rich was a son of the late Herbert and Kathleen Morris Rich.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, January 25, at the Baldwin Church of God with the Revs. Ernest Hunter and Ken Coomer officiating. Burial was in the New Hope Baptist Church cemetery.
Survivors include three sisters, Brenda Meister, Alto, and Ann Alexander and Shirley Weston, both of Baldwin; and one brother, Dwayne Rich, Eastanollee.
