Graveside services for George Washington (G.W.) McLeod of Helena were held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 12 at Helena City Cemetery.
The Rev. L.S. Seabolt officiated.
McLeod, 75, died Monday, Nov. 10, 2003. He was the son of the late George and Alice Hulett McLeod.
He was a resident of Telfair County for many years and was retired from the State of Georgia Parks Department.
Survivors include his nephews, George Taylor of Gordon, Jimmy Taylor and Thomas Taylor, both of Dublin and Ronnie Taylor of Jackson, Miss.; nieces, Shirley Cravey of Alamo, Susan Mason of Oxford, Miss. and Sharon Langley of McRae.

J.H. Smith Jr.
Services for J.H. Smith Jr. of Helena were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 12 at the chapel of Lowe’s Funeral Home with interment in Zion Hope Baptist Church.
The Rev. Chuck Morgan officiated.
Smith, 70, died Sunday, Nov. 9, 2003. He was the son of the late Joseph Herman and Eva Lois Poole Smith.
He was a native of Dodge County and was a retired maintenance employee of Ventor School System, N.J.
Survivors include his sisters, Eunice Coleman of Green Cove Springs, Fla., Maude Thompson of Helena and Connie Stroble of Gainsville, Fla.; brothers, Eugene Smith of Helena and H.B. Smith of Mayslanding, N.J.; several nieces and nephews.

Thomas Charles Vick
Thomas Charles Vick, 65, of McRae died Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2003. He was the son of the late Gerald Edward and Lummie Anna Rebecca Clark Vick. He was preceded in death by a step daughter, Arlene White.
Vick was a native of Marmaduke, Ark. and was a retired dairy worker.
Survivors include his daughters, Suzanna Godsey and Jerri Vick, both of McRae, Edith Ann Hayes of Live Oak, Fla., Peggy Branam and Barbara Linda Vick, both of Okeechobee, Fla., Tina Louise Ray of Dayton, Tenn.; stepson, Ruben Moody of Okeechobee, Fla.; sister, Mary Lee Vick of Ellensburg, Wash.; 15 grandchildren; four step-grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
The family requests in lieu of flowers memorials be made to the American Cancer Society.

Madeline Vaughan Heller Bowen
Memorial services for Madeline Vaughan Heller Bowen of Cocoa Beach, Fla. were held at 4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 5 at Beckman-Williamson Funeral Home in Cocoa Beach.
Bowen, 80, died Saturday, Aug. 30, 2003. She was the daughter of the late Mather W. Vaughan and Camalete Vaughan formerly of McRae and was married to Duncan N. Bowen formerly of McRae.
She was a native of Dodge County and graduated from McRae-Helena High School and Macon Business College. She worked for Dr.’s Von Thron, Knotts and Abel for 30 years as an office assistant. She was a member and past president of Brevard Porcelain China Painters Club.
In addition to her husband, survivors include her son, Duncan N. Bowen Jr. of Merritt Island; daughter, Gerry Heller Raines; sister, Gwen Vitsaras of St. Petersburg; and five grandchildren.
Beckman-Williamson Funeral Home of Cocoa Beach, Fla. was in charge of arrangements.
Bertie Burch
Graveside services for Bertie Burch of Helena were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 6 at the Helena City Cemetery.

Burch, 93, died Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2003. She was the daughter of the late John Columbus and Mary Evelyn Lenderman. She was the widow of Frank Burch and was a housewife.
Survivors include her nieces, Lena Williams of McRae, Becky Pitts and Kay Galloway, both of Helena, and Jo Carol Sineath of West Palm Beach, Fla.; nephew, Gary Lenderman of Helena; great niece, Linda Kelley of McRae; great-nephew, Wright Williams of McRae and a host of great nieces and nephews.

Anna Lee Lavender
Graveside services for Anna Lee Lavender of Jacksonville were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 10 at Palm Cemetery in Winter Park, Fla.
Lavender, 94, died Friday, Nov. 7, 2003. She was the daughter of the late Stephen Charlie and Alice Clark Yeomans. She was the widow of Arthur Lavender. She was preceded in death by her sons, Raymond Lavender, Carl Lavender, Felton Lavender, James Lavender and Walter Lavender; stepson, Benny Lavender.
She was a native of Wheeler County and was a retired nurse from Orlando Regional Medical Center.
Survivors include her sisters, Lucile Fowler of Macon and Colene Ledford of Apopka, Fla.; brother, Morris Yeomans of Macon; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

Millie M. White
Services for Millie M. White of Anniston, Ala. were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 8 at Cedar Grove United Methodist Church with interment in the church cemetery.

White, 94, died Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2003. She was the widow of Harlow White. She was preceded in death by her son, Gene White and daughter, Mary White.
She was a native of Georgia and a resident of Clermont, Fla. for 30 years. She was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include her daughters, Doris Parker and Dorothy Faughn, both of Oxford; sons, Dewitt White of LaBelle, Fla., Roger White of Mascotte, Fla., Harold White and Randal White, both of Alva, Fla.; 16 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Ada Dukes Jeffries
Services for Ada Dukes Jeffries of McRae were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 29 in the chapel of Vaughn Funeral Home with interment in Evergreen Cemetery, Fitzgerald.

Jeffries, 91, died Tuesday, January 27, 2004. She was the daughter of the late Ozzie Ira and Lydia Elsie Towns Dukes. She was the widow of Plas Jeffries and was preceded in death by a son, Charles Pate.
A native of Jeff Davis County, she retired from the garment industry and was a member of the Helena Baptist Church.
Survivors include her son, Bobby Pate of Hartwell; daughter, Carolyn Adams of McRae; brother, Troy Dukes of West Palm Beach, Fla.; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Jesse B. McDuffie Jr.
Services for Jesse B. McDuffie Jr. of McRae were held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 23 in the chapel of Vaughn Funeral Home with interment in McDuffie Cemetery.
Dr. William Connell and the Rev. Steven Frazier officiated.
McDuffie, 75, died Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2004. He was the son of the late Jesse B. McDuffie Sr. and Florine Ray McDuffie and was married to Betty McDuffie.
A native and lifelong resident of Telfair County, he was a retired accountant with Monsanto Chemical and was a member of the McRae First Baptist Church where he also served as deacon. He was a graduate of the University of Georgia and had served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict.
In addition to his wife, survivors include his son, Don McDuffie of McRae; daughter, Sherry McDuffie of Athens; and one granddaughter..

Alice Jones Davis
Services for Alice Jones Davis of Milan were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 22 in the chapel of Vaughn Funeral Home with interment in the Red Hill Church Cemetery.
The Rev. Alvin Lewis and the Rev. Roy Grimes officiated.
Davis, 94, died Monday, Jan. 19, 2004. She was the daughter of the late Albert and Tincey Pitts Jones and was married to Charlie Davis of Milan. She preceded in death by a daughter, Myrtle Davis Horton, a grandson, Andy Davis and a great-grandson, Austin Jeffries.
A native of Dodge County, she was a homemaker and a member of Red Hill Holiness Baptist Church.
In addition to her husband, survivors include her children, Razz Davis of Helena, Roger Davis and Gordon Davis, both of Chauncey, Marlene Jeffries of Milan, Jennie Bentley of McRae and Joanne Miller of Monticello; 16 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
