NICHOLSON - Mrs. Darlene S. Potts, 68, died Thursday, January 13, 2000, at Athens Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Potts was born June 20, 1931, in Ogden, Utah. She was a daughter of the late Eldo and Elizabeth Harrison Slater.
Mrs. Potts was retired from Reliance Electric and was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Salt Lake City, Utah.
Funeral services were held Saturday, January 15, in the chapel of Jackson Funeral Home, Jefferson, with the Rev. Mike Stowers officiating. Burial was in Woodbine Cemetery, Jefferson.
Survivors include one daughter, Stacey Standridge, Nicholson; son and daughter-in-law, Warren and Tammy Standridge, Nicholson; one step-son, Marty Standridge, Athens; three sisters, Jill Williams, Washington State, Jackie Ward, Nevada, and Sheila Standridge, Athens; three brothers, Gary Slater and Michael McKane, both of Nevada, and Tom Slater, Utah; and one grandson, Colton Standridge, Nicholson.

MR. BRIGHTWELL
Macedonia Baptist Church member
PENDERGRASS - Billy Wilbon Brightwell, 63, died Sunday, January 16, 2000, at his residence following a sudden illness.
Mr. Brightwell was born in Sumter County, but had lived in Jackson County for a number of years. He was retired and was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church.
Mr. Brightwell was preceded in death by his father, Hollis Wilbon Brightwell, and a sister, Patty Vaughn.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, January 19, in the chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home, Gainesville, with the Rev. Todd Smith officiating.
Survivors include his wife, Marelle Flowers Brightwell; two sons, Eddie W. Brightwell, Watkinsville, and Mickey Flowers, Jefferson; two daughters, Bunnie Evans, Pendergrass, and Janice Wright, Gainesville; one brother, Bobby Brightwell, Woodstock; three granddaughters and seven grandsons.
Memorial Park Funeral was in charge of arrangements.
MR. TUCKER

ST. PETERSBURG, FLA. - Danny Thomas Tucker, 43, formerly of Tifton, brother of Dorothy Tucker Purvis, Commerce, died Thursday, January 13, 2000.
Mr. Tucker was born January 19, 1956, in Sparks, Ga. (Cook County). He was a son of the late Ben J. and Grace Rowan Tucker.
Mr. Tucker was employed as an electrician and was of the Baptist denomination. He was preceded in death by a brother, Jackie Tucker, and a sister, Frances T. Brewer.
Funeral services were held Monday, January 17, in the chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Funeral Home, Tifton, with the Rev. Hilton Purvis officiating. Burial was in Oak Ridge Cemetery. Buddy Brewer, Jack Tucker, Greg Tucker, Terry Tucker, Christopher Tucker, Shane Tucker, Bo Purvis, Johnny Tucker Jr., Jimmy Purvis, Joey Hampton and Burton Ritchi served as pallbearers.
Survivors, in addition to his sister, include one son, Ben Tucker, United States Navy; four brothers, Jimmy Tucker, Tifton, Johnny Tucker, Nashville, Billy Tucker, Pace, Fla., and Ben Tucker, Jacksonville, Fla.; and sister, Kathy Tucker, Atlanta.

MISS WILKES

ATHENS - Miss Olivia Wilkes, 92, died Saturday, January 15, 2000.
A native of Jackson County, Miss Wilkes was a daughter of the late John Oscar and Avie Lou Epps Wilkes.
She was a member of Young Harris United Methodist Church and was connected with the A&A Bakery for a number of years.
Funeral services were held Monday, January 17, in the chapel of Bridges Funeral Home, Athens, with the Rev. Mike Marsingill officiating. Burial was in Evergreen Memorial Park.
Survivors include one brother, Norman Wilkes, Dublin; sisters-in-law, Lucille Wilkes, Athens, Louise Wilkes, Bogart, and Raydell Wilkes, Dublin; and several nieces and nephews.

MR. CARLAN
Commerce native
DESOTO - A.B. Carlan Sr., 80, died Thursday, January 6, 2000, at Perfect Care, Americus.
A native of Commerce, Mr. Carlan was born June 29, 1919. He was a son of the late Count Pulaski and Therise Brooks Carlan.
Mr. Carlan attended public schools in Banks County, graduating from Banks County High School in 1938. He was a 1943 graduate of the University of Georgia College of Agriculture, with a BSA degree major in agricultural economics.
Mr. Carlan served in the 3rd United States Army Infantry 357th, 90th division during World War II. He was Infantry Unit Commander, Rifle Company in European Theater of Operations and was awarded the Silver Star and Bronze Star with oak leaf cluster for Bravery In Action. Mr. Carlan was also awarded the Purple Heart with oak leaf cluster (wounded twice), five Battle Stars and the Victory Medal.
Funeral services were held Saturday, January 8, at DeSoto United Methodist Church with the Revs. Emory Gilbert, Claude Fullerton and Jerry Lillard officiating. Burial was in DeSoto City Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Nancy Sumerford Carlan; daughter and son-in-law, Kitty Carlan and Roy Fricks, Americus; sons and daughters-in-law, Arthur Buell and Paula Carlan, St. Marks, Fla., and William Lawrence and Susan Carlan, Monroe; two sisters, Bertha Mae Thomas, Jefferson, and Kathleen Pruitt, Commerce; one brother, Ulysess Grant Carlan, Valdosta; and six grandchildren, Arthur Buell Carlan III, Tallahassee, Fla., Sidney Frances Carlan, St. Marks, Fla., William Austin Fricks and Christopher Carlan Fricks, both of Americus, and Hannah Adeline Carlan and Jake Cobb Carlan, both of Monroe.

DOUGLASVILLE - Mrs. Eddie Ruth Johnstone, 80, died Thursday, January 13, 2000.
Mrs. Johnstone was born July 1, 1919, in Jackson County. She was a daughter of Mrs. Dessie W. Garrett and the late James Albert Garrett.
Mrs. Johnstone was a homemaker and of the Baptist denomination. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Jimmy Paul Hobson and her second husband, T.O. Johnstone.
Funeral services were held Saturday, January 15, in the chapel of Rosehaven Funeral Home, Douglasville, with the Rev. Don Blalock officiating. Burial was in Westview Cemetery.

BIRMINGHAM, ALA. - William Leonard Wilson, 82, formerly of Jefferson, died Tuesday, January 11, 2000, at his residence following an extended illness.
Mr. Wilson was born July 21, 1917, in Oklahoma.
He was a retired surgical technician.
Memorial services will be held at a later date.
Mr. Wilson is survived by his wife, Bernilda T. Wilson; two sons, Chris Wilson, Texas, and L.K. Wilson, Kansas; one daughter, Kitty Bell, Texas; and four grandchildren.
MR. DAVIS
Retired manufacturer superintendent
HOSCHTON - Thomas H. Davis Jr., 83, of the Mulberry Community, died Wednesday, January 12, 2000.
Mr. Davis was a retired manufacturer superintendent and was a member of Mulberry Baptist Church. He was also a member of Lawrenceville Masonic Lodge No. 131 and the Yaarab Temple.
Funeral services were held Saturday, January 15, at Mulberry Baptist Church with the Revs. J.W. Helton, Jack Pierce and David Pruitt officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Mary L. Davis; sister, Lois Lott; sisters-in-law, Rosalia Davis, Gertie Luther, Mary Luther and Margie Luther; brother-in-law, Thurman Luther; nephews, Major Julius W. Davis Jr., Dr. Tom Lott, Horace Cronic, Welton Cronic, Felton Cronic, Frank Luther and Leroy Luther; and nieces, Carolyn Lott Howarth, Roberta Sloan, Linda Culp and Louise Grosh.

Mollie J. Graham
Mrs. Mollie Jane Jordan Graham, 75, of Danielsville, died Tuesday, January 18, 2000, at Athens Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Graham was born April 9, 1924, in Franklin County. She was a daughter of the late Barry and Lilly Bryant Jordan.
Mrs. Graham was a homemaker and a member of Bethel Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Rufus Graham, two brothers, Clarence and Clyde Jordan, and two sisters, Annie Mae Scarboro and Ruthell Jordan.
Funeral services were held Thursday, January 20, in the chapel of Pruitt Funeral Home, Royston, with the Rev. Glenn Guest and Otis Graham officiating. Burial was in the Bethel Baptist Church cemetery. Tony Graham, Howard Goss, Jason Autry, Wayne Moone, Grady Autry and Eric Adams served as pallbearers.
Survivors include two daughters, Mae Sue Childers and Martha Adams, both of Danielsville; one son, James Graham, Danielsville; three brothers, A.L. Jordan and Bill Jordan, both of Danielsville, and Junior Jordan, Comer; eight grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Florence Woods
Mrs. Florence Woods, 71, of Comer, died Tuesday, January 18, 2000, at Cobb Health Care.
Mrs. Woods was born February 28, 1928, in Gainesville. She was a daughter of the late Carl Thomas and Tressie Wilson Lord.
Mrs. Woods had been employed with Harmony Grove Mills.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Woods.
Funeral services were held Thursday, January 20, in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Revs. Donald Wilson and Jimmy Owensby officiating. Burial was in Grey Hill Cemetery, Commerce.
Survivors include two sons, Marvin Brown, Homer, and Harry Columbus Thomas, Danielsville; two daughters, Dorothy Garrett, Comer, and Martha Worley, Homer; 12 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Mayo S. Evans
Mrs. Mayo Sorrells Evans, 89, of Danielsville, died Wednesday, January 19, 2000, at Grandview Convalescent Center, Athens.
Mrs. Evans was born June 19, 1910, in Madison County. She was a daughter of the late John W. and Lovie Carrington Sorrells.
Mrs. Evans was a seamstress and was of the Baptist denomination. She was preceded in death by her husband, Devery H. Evans, and a brother, Dewitt Sorrells.
Funeral services were held Friday, January 21, in the chapel of Pruitt Funeral Home, Royston, with the Rev. Ray Jenkins officiating. Burial was in the Bethel Baptist Church cemetery. Mrs. Evans' nephews served as pallbearers.
Survivors include one son, Paul Evans, Danielsville; one brother, Britt Sorrells, Canon; one sister, Reba Brewer, Danielsville; three grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.
