WATKINSVILLE - Oatha R. Martin, 83, died Friday, February 11, 2000, at St. Mary's Hospital, Athens, following a long illness.
Mr. Martin was born April 24, 1916, in Banks County. He was a son of the late George and Lucy Sisk Martin.
Mr. Martin was of the Presbyterian faith.
Funeral services were held Sunday, February 13, in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Rev. David Perkins officiating. Burial was in Grey Hill Cemetery, Commerce.
Survivors include his wife, Arlene Clark Martin; two sons, Royce L. Martin, Nashville, Tenn., and Ronnie L. Martin, Watkinsville; two daughters, Ruby M. Berryman, Watkinsville, and Jeannie M. Mullin, Tustin Ranch, Calif.; one brother, Cecil Martin, Monroe; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

MISS SANDERS
Harmony Baptist member
HOLLINGSWORTH - Miss Hazel L. Sanders, 84, died Wednesday, February 9, 2000, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center, Gainesville, following an extended illness.
Miss Sanders was born December 9, 1915, in Banks County. She was a daughter of the late Horace T. and Norbia Cash Sanders.
Miss Sanders was retired from Carwood Manufacturing Company with a number of years of service and was a member of Harmony Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by three brothers, John Sanders, Manson Sanders and Brad Sanders, and two sisters, Gladys Ivie and Naomi Oliver.
Funeral services were held Thursday, February 10, at Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel, Baldwin, with the Revs. Gene Todd and J. Frank Sailers officiating. Burial was in the Harmony Baptist Church cemetery with the Rev. Robbie Bailey officiating at graveside.
Survivors include one sister, Carrie Moss, Hollingsworth; one brother, Jack Sanders, Baldwin; and several nieces and nephews.
Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Harmony Baptist Church, 5223 U.S. Hwy. 441 N., Baldwin, GA 30511.

MR. WALLS
Retired mechanic
EASTMAN - Cleve Manuel Walls, 66, died Thursday, February 10, 2000, at Dodge County Hospital.
Mr. Walls was born February 15, 1933, in Crisp, Ga. He was a son of the late Oscar Lee and Maggie Jane Brown Walls.
Mr. Walls was a mechanic, having retired from Jackson County Public Works. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Delilah Grace Walls, and a sister, Doris Walls Herrington.
Funeral services were held Sunday, February 13, at Penia Baptist Church, Cordele, with the Rev. James Dumas officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Shannon Walls, William Tedder, Jason Lockhart, Israel Lockhart, Michael Vandiver and Tommy Garrett served as pallbearers.
Mrs. Paula Faye Owens provided organ music for the service, while Mrs. Vickie Brown played the piano and sang "Amazing Grace." Brown also sang "Take My Hand Precious Lord" acappela. The Rev. Dumas presented Mr. Walls' daughter, Mrs. Cynthia H. Thompson, the American Flag.
Survivors include his daughter, Mrs. Thompson, Cumming; two brothers, James "Jim" Walls, Abbeville, and Oscar Lee Walls Jr., Maysville; five sisters, Elizabeth Walls Wilson, Pendergrass, Helen Walls Nester, Forsyth, Maggie Walls Vaughan, Alto, Lucille Walls McDaniel, Eastman, and Shirley Walls Edge, El Paso, Texas; three grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

MRS. ALMOND
New Faith Methodist Church member
COMMERCE - Mrs. Lillian Annette Almond, died Friday, February 11, 2000.
A native of Jackson County, Mrs. Almond was born January 5, 1949. She was a daughter of the late Will Nathan and Lizzie Davenport.
Mrs. Almond had been employed with Solar Tech, Commerce, and was a member of New Faith Methodist Church, Commerce, where she served faithfully until her death.
Funeral services were held Sunday, February 13, at New Faith Methodist Church with the Rev. Frank Earls officiating.
Survivors include daughter, Paige Almond, Macon; daughter and son-in-law, Kimberly and Torris Butterfield, Union City; and sister and brother-in-law, Rebbecca and Samuel Chaney, Commerce.

AUBURN - Mrs. Mildred Ramey Mitchell Butler, 88, died Monday, January 17, 2000.
Mrs. Butler was a native of Barrow County.
She was a homemaker and a member of Union Grove Baptist Church, Auburn.
Survivors include her husband, Alvin Butler; children, the Rev. and Rosa Mitchell, Florence Masters and Guy and Quillon Butler, all of Auburn, H.E. "Red" and Jewette Mitchell, Dacula, James and Hilda Butler, Charleston, S.C., Charolotte and Buford Smith, Oakwood, and Sue and Milton Turner, Lawrenceville; one sister, Rubye R. Keith, Hoschton; two half-sisters, Imogene Mills and Mary Waycaster, both of Baldwin; 19 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, several great-great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Former barber
CARNESVILLE - Carroll Silas McNabb, 83, died Thursday, February 10, 2000.
Mr. McNabb was born August 21, 1916, in Marion County, Tenn. He was a son of the late Baird and Willie Foster McNabb.
Mr. McNabb was employed as a barber for 25 years in Decatur. He attended the Franklin County Church of Christ and was a member of Oakgrove Cumberland Presbyterian Church, Whitwell, Tenn. Mr. McNabb was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Lynn Williams McNabb, three sisters, Katherine Rose, Lena and Doris, and three brothers, Patrick, Jack and Jerry.
Funeral services were held Saturday, February 12, at Oakgrove Cumberland Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Phillip Layne officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Mr. McNabb is survived by one sister, Annie Belle Johnson, Whitwell, Tenn., and nieces and nephews.

World War II veteran
JEFFERSON - William Larkin Head, 74, died Sunday, February 6, 2000, at his residence following an extended illness.
Mr. Head was born in Dunwoody, DeKalb County, a son of the late Roy and Pamela Head.
He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Navy, and was retired from Plantation Pipeline Company. Mr. Head was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Jefferson.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, February 8, at the First United Methodist Church of Jefferson with the Rev. Gary Whatley officiating.
Survivors include his wife, Marjorie "Bunny" Vickery Head; sons and daughters-in-law, Stephen and Linda Head, Kingswood, Texas, and Charles and Sally Head, The Woodlands, Texas; daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Robert Allen, Lake Jackson, Texas; daughter, Lisa Gordon, The Woodlands, Texas; step-daughter and step-son-in-law, Kaye and Charles Holecek, Houston, Texas; step-son and step-daughter-in-law, Mike and Nancy Massey, Taylor, Texas; one sister, Patricia Davis, Dunwoody; one brother, Roy Head, Dunwoody; grandchildren, Stevie Rochelle, Abigail and Andrew Head and Amanda and Matthew Allen; step-grandchildren, Scott and Judy Milner, Kelli and Shawn Frazier, James, Kristen and Laura Massey and Jennifer and Natalie Murdock; and four great-grandsons.

U.S. Air Force veteran
COMMERCE - Jimmy L. Hollifield, 56, died Sunday, February 6, 2000, at BJC Medical Center, Commerce, following a sudden illness.
Mr. Hollifield was a son of Nelson Hollifield, Commerce, and the late Annie Richey Hollifield.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and was employed with Chatham Sign Company.
Funeral services were held Monday, February 7, in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Rev. Curtis Greene officiating. Burial was in Grey Hill Cemetery, Commerce.
Survivors, in addition to his father, include his wife, Shirley Baxter Hollifield; two brothers, Joe L. Hollifield, Nicholson, and Charles Hollifield, Warner Robins; and two sisters, Geraldine Carithers and Betty Mize, both of Commerce.

MR. SHIRLEY
U.S. Navy veteran
HOMER - Hugh David Shirley, 41, died Tuesday, February 1, 2000, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center, Gainesville, following a sudden illness.
Mr. Shirley was born November 20, 1958, in Gwinnett County. He was a son of Hugh Dorsey and Iris Hughes Shirley, Buford.
Mr. Shirley was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served from 1976 to 1992, and was employed as a truck driver with B.F.I. He was a member of Jefferson Lighthouse Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held Friday, February 4, in the chapel of Evans Funeral Home, Jefferson, with the Rev. Kevin Whitman officiating. Burial was in the New Prospect Methodist Church cemetery, Buford.
Survivors, in addition to his parents, include his wife, Susan Henderson Shirley; four sons, Adam Shirley, Andrew Shirley, Alex Shirley and Avery Shirley, all of Homer; two daughters, Stephanie Bean, Colquitt, and Amber Shirley, Homer; one sister, Heidi Register, Buford; one brother, Jeff Shirley, Conyers; grandparents, Linnie Shirley and Ruby Hughes, both of Buford; and two nieces, Hope Anderson and Heather Register.

MR. WOOD
Retired truck driver
WINDER - Donald Wood, 69, died Thursday, February 3, 2000.
Mr. Wood was born in Jackson County, though he resided in Barrow County for the past 39 years. He was a son of the late Hoyt and Thelma Manus Wood.
Mr. Wood was a retired truck driver and was of the Baptist denomination.
Funeral services were held Saturday, February 5, in the chapel of Carter Funeral Home, Winder, with the Revs. Kenneth Brewer and Kenneth Deaton officiating. Burial was in Barrow Memorial Gardens.
Survivors include his wife, Betty D. Wood; daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Russell Meeks, Braselton; daughter, Nancy Elaine Wood, Winder; one son, Jeff Wood, Winder; two sisters, Belle Gilliland, Winder, and Betty Thomas, Braselton; and five grandchildren.
