Seamstress
FARMINGTON - Mrs. Ola H. Stewart, 74, died Wednesday, February 16, 2000.
A native of Banks County, Mrs. Stewart was a daughter of the late M.J. and Lizzie Daniels House.
She had lived in the Farmington area for most of her life and was a seamstress and homemaker and was of the Baptist denomination. Mrs. Stewart was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Stewart Sr., and a son, Douglas Stewart.
Funeral services were held Saturday, February 19, at Farmington Methodist Church with the Rev. Chris Yancey officiating. Burial was in Farmington Cemetery.
Survivors include two daughters, Patsy Stewart, Farmington, and Gail Martin, Bethlehem; four sons, Frank Stewart Jr., Winder, Larry Stewart, Clarkesville, Danny Stewart, Bogart, and Dennis Stewart, Farmington; two brothers, Gene House, Nicholson, and George House, Lakeland, Fla.; one sister, Barbara Fullerton, Hull; 16 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

MR. WADDELL
Banks County native
ATHENS - Walter Marion Waddell, 88, died Monday, February 21, 2000.
A native of Banks County, Mr. Waddell was a son of the late Boyde and Lillie Jones Waddell.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Hettie Mae Whitworth, and by his second wife, Elsie Beavers.
Graveside services were held Tuesday, February 22, in the Hudson Baptist Church cemetery with the Rev. Tom Lang officiating. Rick Melton, Scott King, Ron Mills, Larry Rogers, Jason Rogers and Jakob Rogers served as pallbearers.
Survivors include two daughters, Marian Rogers, Arnoldsville, and Pat Thornton, Elberton; three sisters, Frances Griffith, Watkinsville, Annis Haggard, Winder, and Robbie Haggard, Commerce; two step-sons, Jim Beavers and Terry Beavers; five grandchildren, Terri Mill, Tammie King, Rick Melton, Larry Rogers and Jason Rogers; five great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

CORNELIA - Mrs. Ethel Forrester Chitwood, 72, died Sunday, February 20, 2000, at Habersham County Medical Center following a short illness.
Mrs. Chitwood was born December 14, 1927, in Habersham County. She was a daughter of the late Will G. and Cora Duskie Ivie Forrester.
Mrs. Chitwood was retired from Mt. Vernon Mills, with 24 years of service, and was a lifetime member of the Grant Reeves V.F.W. Post #7720 Ladies Auxiliary. She was of the Baptist denomination.
Mrs. Chitwood was preceded in death by her husband, Joe M. Chitwood, a brother, Lewis Forrester, two sisters, Stella Yearwood and Grace Tench, and a daughter-in-law, JoAnn Chitwood.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, February 23, at Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel, Baldwin, with the Rev. J.T. Tyson officiating. Burial was in Level Grove Cemetery.
Survivors include three sons, Dorsey Chitwood, Alto, John Green, Mt. Airy, and Billy Joe Rainwater, Jefferson City, Tenn.; three sisters, Frances Tyler, Clayton, Dorothy Grafton, Toccoa, and Emma Mullinax, Clarkesville; two brothers, Coleman Forrester, Columbia, S.C., and Bill Forrester, Cayce, S.C.; grandchildren, Bryant Chitwood, Demorest, Joey Chitwood, Acworth, Philip and Dawn Grindle, Dahlonega, Dan Green, Mt. COMMERCE - Robert "Bob" Sailors, 89, died Thursday, February 17, 2000, at BJC Nursing Home, Commerce.
Mr. Sailors was born March 16, 1910, in Jackson County. He was a son of the late Lon and Delia Dunson Sailors.
Mr. Sailors was a retired insurance salesman and was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Commerce. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gertrude Hood Sailors.
Funeral services were held Saturday, February 19, in the chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Revs. Warren Huddleston and J.L. Griffith officiating. Burial was in Jackson Memorial Gardens, Commerce.
Mr. Sailors is survived by a son, George Sailors, Commerce; and a brother-in-law, W.C. Hood, New Smyrna Beach, Fla.

MR. WILSON
World War II veteran
ANDERSON, S.C. - Johnnie Wilson Jr., 71, died Thursday, February 17, 2000, at Anderson Memorial Hospital following a long illness.
Mr. Wilson was born August 26, 1928, in Jackson County. He was a son of the late Johnnie Wilson Sr. and Lelia Lauftus Wilson.
Mr. Wilson was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army, and was retired from the textile industry.
Funeral services were held Saturday, February 19, in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Rev. Buford Lockman officiating. Burial was in Grey Hill Cemetery, Commerce.
Survivors include two brothers, Odell Wilson and Russell Wilson, both of Commerce; two sisters, Janie Ballanger, Carnesville, and Virginia Archer, Center; and several nieces and nephews.

MRS. CHITWOOD

BALDWIN - Mrs. Maude Wrighton Garner Chitwood, 70, died Thursday, February 17, 2000, at her residence following an extended illness.
Mrs. Chitwood was born March 4, 1929, in Habersham County. She was a daughter of the late William Jasper and Maude Elizabeth Savage Chitwood.
Mrs. Chitwood was formerly employed with Carwood Manufacturing Company and retired from Fieldale Farms Inc. in 1985. She was a member of Baldwin Congregational Holiness Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Hubert Herman Chitwood, a daughter, Jannett Chitwood Nations, and a son, Marion Chitwood.
Mrs. Chitwood was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Funeral services were held Saturday, February 19, at Baldwin Congregational Holiness Church with the Revs. Sanford Kimbrell and Wilmer Ivester officiating. Burial was in the Baldwin City Cemetery.
Survivors include two daughters, Brenda Faye Garrett, Mount Airy, and Quincy Lynn Weaver, Baldwin; two sons, Aaron Chitwood, Toccoa, and Danny David Chitwood, Cornelia; 16 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

MRS. POMPPER
New Jersey native
BALDWIN - Mrs. Elizabeth C. Pompper, 85, formerly of Quinton Township, N.J., died Friday, February 18, 2000, at BJC Medical Center, Commerce, following an extended illness.
A native of Wildwood, N.J., Mrs. Pompper was a daughter of the late Herman G. and Helen Flemming Carstaedt. She was a longtime resident of Quinton Township, N.J., having lived in Baldwin for 10 years
Mrs. Pompper was a homemaker and an avid reader.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman G. Pompper Jr., two sons, William C. Pompper and James Pompper, a brother, William Carstaedt, and a sister, Helen Carstaedt.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, February 22, in the chapel of Padgett Funeral Home, Upper Deerfield Township, N.J. Burial was in the Salem Baptist Church cemetery, Salem, N.J.
Survivors include one daughter, Helen McAllister, Shiloh, N.J.; three sons, Lewis C. Pompper, Shiloh, N.J., Herman Pompper III, Baldwin, and Frank M. Pompper, Bridgeton, N.J.; one sister, Doris Livingston, Baldwin; 11 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

LULA - Joseph R. "Joey" Shockley, 26, died Thursday, February 17, 2000, at his residence following an accident.
Mr. Shockley was born in Banks County, where he lived most of his life. He was a son of Horace and Susan Shockley, Lula.
Mr. Shockley was a preacher and was employed as a logger. He was a member of Lula Full Gospel Worship Center, where he served as a Sunday School teacher.
Mr. Shockley was preceded in death by his grandfather, Clifford Shockley.
Funeral services were held Sunday, February 20, at Lula Full Gospel Worship Center with the Revs. Grady Saxon and Shane Turner officiating. Burial was in the Living Mission Methodist Church cemetery.
Survivors, in addition to his parents, include his wife, Alisha Kidd Shockley; one son, Brandon Shockley, Lula; one daughter, Naomi Shockley, Lula; brothers and sisters-in-law, James and Denise Shockley and Rodney and Michelle Shockley, all of Lula; one sister, Hollie Shockley, Lula; grandmothers, Wilee Ree Shockley, Lula, Betty Elliott, Athens, and Melva Hendrix, Brooksville, Fla.; grandfather, Harry Elliott, Athens; mother-in-law, Jo Kidd Seabolt, Gillsville; fathers-in-law, Wesley Kidd, Mike Seabolt and David Buffington, all of Gillsville; brother-in-law, Bryan Kidd, Gillsville; two nephews, Stephen Shockley and Allen Shockley, both of Lula; one niece, Cassida Rae Shockley, Lula; uncle, William Shockley, Lula; and a number of aunts and other uncles.

COMMERCE - Mrs. Frances Anthony Wilbanks, 74, died Sunday, February 20, 2000, at Athens Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Wilbanks was born February 3, 1926, in Jackson County. She was a daughter of the late John J. and Grace A. Venable Anthony.
Mrs. Wilbanks was retired from General Time and was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Commerce. She had served as past president of the Commerce Pilot Club.
Mrs. Wilbanks was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Ed Wilbanks.
Memorial services were held Wednesday, February 23, in the chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Rev. Elwyn Wilbanks officiating.
Survivors include two daughters, Judy McClure, Marietta, and Debbie Moore, Panama City Beach, Fla.; two sisters, Olivia (Jack) Shirley and Lottie Nix, both of Commerce; two grandchildren, Chuck Ledford and Kim Martin; and four great-grandchildren, Charlie Ledford and C.J. Wilkes and Drew and Lauren Martin.

U.S. Air Force retiree
COMMERCE - Gerald K. Richey, 65, died Thursday, February 17, 2000, at Emory Hospital following a sudden illness.
Mr. Richey was born March 7, 1934, in Jackson County. He was a son of the late Jessie Lee Richey Sr. and Lena Bertie Martin Richey.
Mr. Richey was retired from the U.S. Air Force. He was preceded in death by a brother, Charlie Richey.
Funeral services were held Saturday, February 19, in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Revs. Dennis Kesler and Curtis Green officiating. Burial was in Grey Hill Cemetery, Commerce.
Survivors include his wife, Emma Jean Baker Richey; three children, Cheryl Cummins, Fernandina Beach, Fla., and Wanda Wilson and Starla Smallwood, both of Commerce; three brothers, J.L. Richey, Olympia, Wash., James Bouy Richey, Blue Earth, Minn., and William Billy Richey, Jefferson; three sisters, Martha Smith, Jefferson, Willie Faye Smith, Sugar Hill, and Frances Elrod, Commerce; and eight grandchildren.
