MR. HANES
U.S. Army veteran
BRASELTON - William Almond Hanes, 80, died Sunday, May 7, 2000, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center, Gainesville, following a brief illness.
Mr. Hanes was born in Barrow County, but had lived all of his life in Hall County. He was a son of the late Henry and Mamie Hanes.
Mr. Hanes served with the U.S. Army during World War II and was awarded the World War II Victory Medal, the American Service Medal, the Bronze Star, the Good Conduct Medal and the European African Middle Eastern Medal with three bronze stars.
He was a retired farmer and was a member of Chestnut Mountain Baptist Church. Mr. Hanes was preceded in death by a brother, Gerald Hanes.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 9, in the chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home, Gainesville, with the Rev. John Bautsic officiating. Burial was in the Chestnut Mountain Presbyterian Church cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Cooper Hanes; daughter and son-in-law, Beth Hanes and Herman DeLaPerriere III, Braselton; son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Angie Howell Hanes, Braselton; brother-in-law, Fred Cooper, Chestnut Mountain; sisters-in-law, Carolyn Bagwell, Gainesville, and Sylvia Cooper, Chestnut Mountain; grandchildren, Jennifer and Mark Poole, Nicole DeLaPerriere, Herman DeLaPerriere IV, William DeLa-Perriere, Meagan Hanes, Callie Hanes and Abby Hanes; and several aunts, nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Eagle Boy's Ranch, Chestnut Mountain, or to the charity of one's choice.
Memorial Park Funeral Home, Gainesville, was in charge of arrangements.

MR. HAYNIE
Jackson County native
FLOWERY BRANCH - Aubory E. Haynie, 70, died Sunday, May 7, 2000, at his residence following an extended illness.
Born in Jackson County, Mr. Haynie had lived in Hall County for the past 50 years.
He was a retired used car salesman for Quality Motors and was a member of Grace Baptist Church.
Mr. Haynie was preceded in death by his wife, Sybil Maloch Haynie, and a daughter, Nancy Gail Puckett.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 9, in the chapel of Little-Davenport Funeral Home, Gainesville, with the Revs. Jack Pierce and Roy Bailey officiating. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Survivors include one son, Jerry E. Haynie, Flowery Branch; daughter-in-law, Vera Haynie, Gainesville; grandchildren, Curtis and Lisa Haynie, Joshua and Tangee Puckett and Dana Gail Puckett, all of Flowery Branch, Jason and Rebecca Puckett, Gainesville, and Jessica Leigh Haynie, Hoschton; four great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
Little-Davenport Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

MR. BRASELTON
World War II veteran
LAWRENCEVILLE - Harrison W. "Harry" Braselton, 88, formerly of Braselton, died Tuesday, May 9, 2000, at Emory Hospital of congestive heart failure.
Mr. Braselton's parents were the late Mr. and Mrs. W.H. Braselton, of Braselton. He was one of eight brothers and sisters, and his father was mayor of Braselton for 50 years. His grandfather, William Harrison Braselton, was the founder of the town in 1876.
Mr. Braselton was a graduate of Braselton High School Class of 1930, where he was a member of the varsity basketball team which played in the national basketball tournament at the University of Chicago. He graduated from the University of Georgia in the Class of 1934, with a degree in business administration. Mr. Braselton worked for nine years as a salesman and head bookkeeper for the Braselton Allied Companies.
He was a veteran of World War II. Mr. Braselton served three years in New Guinea and the Phillippines with the Army Finance Department. In 1946, he began work at The Brand Banking Company as cashier. He had a distinguished 50-year career with The Brand Bank and retired in 1995 as chairman of the board.
Mr. Braselton was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lawrenceville. He was active in Gwinnett County activities and many organizations. He was a former president of the Kiwanis Club, a former president of the Gwinnett County Bulldog Club, a former member of the Gwinnett Housing Authority and served for 25 years as a founding member and secretary of the Gwinnett Industrial Building Authority and the Development Authority of Gwinnett County. Mr. Braselton was also a former member of the Gwinnett County Chamber of Commerce.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 11, in the chapel of Tim Stewart Funeral Home, Lawrenceville, with Dr. Lamar Holley and the Rev. Joann Malone officiating. Burial will be in Grey Hill Cemetery, Commerce, at 4 p.m. Bartow Morgan Jr., Brand Morgan, John Childs, Dr. George Ezzard, Bill Holt, Dr. Verner Chaffin and James Purcell will serve as pallbearers. Honorary escorts will be Board of Directors and employees of Brand Banking Company, Harold Craig, Mack Meeks, James Henderson, Judge Homer Stark and Patricia Morgan Thomas.
Mr. Braselton is survived by his wife of 57 years, Dorothy Verner Braselton; a daughter, Ruth Braselton Morris, and son-in-law, Dr. Brian H. Morris, Cockeysville, Md.; a granddaughter, Lauren Elizabeth Ruth Morris, Cockeysville, Md.; and several nieces and nephews.
The family was to have received friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Tim Stewart Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

MR. SWINDLE
Former mayor
NICHOLSON - Harold S. Swindle, 83, died Monday, May 8, 2000, at his residence.
A native of Madison County, Mr. Swindle was a son of the late Tilman and Nellia Adams Swindle.
He was a U.S. Army veteran and was a retired poultry farmer. Mr. Swindle was a member of Nicholson Baptist Church and had attended New Hope Baptist Church. He was also a member of Hudson Lodge #294 F&AM.
Mr. Swindle served as Democratic Committeeman for Jackson County, Justice of the Peace and as Mayor of Nicholson for 18 years.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 10, in the chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Revs. Ervin Goss, Mike Stowers and Robert Nash officiating. Burial was in the Nicholson Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Ella Tee Coleman Swindle; son and daughter-in-law, Terry and Jackie Swindle, Nicholson; daughter and son-in-law, Pat and Jack Pirkle, Clermont; sister and brother-in-law, Sybil and Herbert Barnett, Nicholson; grandsons and wives, Keith and Jenny Swindle and Tim and Jill Swindle, all of Nicholson; grandchildren, Toby Swindle, Nicholson, and Ashley, Allison and Shawn Pirkle, all of Clermont; and four great-grandchildren, Kelsey, Courtney, Shayla and Zack, all of Nicholson.
Little-Ward Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

MR. GRIFFIN
Spaulding County native
NICHOLSON - Calvin Barney Griffin, 32, died Monday, May 8, 2000.
Mr. Griffin was born August 31, 1967, in Spaulding County. He was a son of Barney and Donna Cox Griffin, Maysville.
Mr. Griffin was a member of Cave Springs Baptist Church.
He was the husband of the late Laury LaSharon Roach Griffin, and the father of Ryley Drake Griffin and Joshua Tyler Griffin.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 11, at Solid Rock Baptist Church, Maysville, with the Revs. Swayne Carlan, Terry Hagwood and Brian Stowe officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Survivors, in addition to his parents, include two brothers, Jeremy Griffin and Matthew Griffin, both of Maysville; five sisters, Cynthia Bartow, Ashville, Angela Mason, Rebecca Plemmons and Theresa Yale, all of Asheville, N.C., and Elizabeth Wilson, Pendergrass; and grandparents, Bill and Ruth Cox, Dayton, Ohio, and Eva Griffin, Maysville.
The family was to have received friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce.
Little-Ward Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

MRS. GRIFFIN

COMMERCE - Mrs. Laury LaSharon Roach Griffin, 25, died Monday, May 8, 2000.
Mrs. Griffin was born July 3, 1974, in Jackson County. She was a daughter of Doris Cook Roach, Commerce, and the late Edward Roach.
Mrs. Griffin was employed at Baker & Taylor, Commerce. She was the wife of the late Calvin Barney Griffin, and the mother of the late Ryley Drake Griffin and Joshua Tyler Griffin.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 11, at Solid Rock Baptist Church, Maysville, with the Revs. Swayne Carlan, Terry Hagwood and Brian Stowe officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Survivors, in addition to her mother, include two sisters, Wendy Baum and Melody Roach, both of Commerce; and grandfather, Horace Roach, Commerce.
The family was to have received friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce.

NICHOLSON - Ryley Drake Griffin, 6, died Monday, May 8, 2000.
Ryley was born April 11, 1994, in Jackson County. He was a son of the late Calvin Barney and Laury LaSharon Roach Griffin.
Ryley was the brother of the late Joshua Tyler Griffin.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 11, at Solid Rock Baptist Church, Maysville, with the Revs. Swayne Carlan, Terry Hagwood and Brian Stowe officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Survivors include his grandparents, Barney and Donna Griffin, Maysville, and Doris Roach, Commerce; and great-grandparents, Bill and Ruth Cox, Dayton, Ohio, Eva Griffin, Maysville, and Horace Roach, Commerce.

NICHOLSON - Joshua Tyler Griffin, 4, died Monday, May 8, 2000.
Joshua was born September 26, 1995, in Jackson County. He was a son of the late Calvin Barney and Laury LaSharon Roach Griffin.
Joshua was the brother of the late Ryley Drake Griffin.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 11, at Solid Rock Baptist Church, Maysville, with the Revs. Swayne Carlan, Terry Hagwood and Brian Stowe officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
