COMMERCE - J.C. Pace, 73, died Monday, May 1, 2000, at his residence.
Mr. Pace was born December 15, 1926, in Jackson County. He was a son of the late John and Cora Stewart Pace.
Mr. Pace was a retired building contractor and was of the Baptist faith.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 4, in the chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Rev. Hilton Purvis officiating. Burial will be in Jackson Memorial Gardens, Commerce. Jimmy Cowart, Johnny Pace, David Pace, Jay Tucker, Steve Ledford and Raymond Shore will serve as pallbearers.
Survivors include his wife, Gaynell Williamson Pace; son and daughter-in-law, Tommy and Carol Pace, Commerce; daughter and son-in-law, JoAnn and Ronald Shore, Commerce; brother, Roger Pace, Commerce; special brother and sister-in-law, Horace and Irene Pace, Commerce; three sisters, Louise Hart, Genevieve Burke and Oneal Pace, all of Commerce; granddaughters and husbands, Tina and Dustin Blalock and Jill and Scott Wilbanks, all of Commerce, and Sherry and Trent Holman, Hull; grandsons and wives, Thomas and Shannon Pace, Lula, and Russell and Amy Shore, Jefferson; and four great-grandchildren, Trent and Marshal Pace, Jayda Shore and Jestin Blalock.
The family was to have received friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

COMMERCE - Mrs. Hallie Sue McCarty, 86, formerly of Athens, died Friday, April 28, 2000.
A native of Arnoldsville, Mrs. McCarty was a daughter of the late John Wesley and Ella Epps Hale McCarty.
She was retired from the garment industry and attended the Commerce Church of God.
Graveside services were held Monday, May 1, in the Hale Family cemetery with the Rev. John Webber and Roberta Owensby officiating.
Survivors include four nieces, Gloria E. McCarty, Athens, Brenda K. Smith, Danielsville, Peggy McCarty Clem, Carey, N.C., and Ann Hale Kitchens, Winterville; four nephews, Donald McCarty, Raleigh, N.C., Buddy McCarty, Franklin, N.C., Billy Hale, Watkinsville, and Edward Hale, Athens; and special friends, David and Roberta Owensby, Matt Craig and Mozelle Clark.

MRS. BARNETT
Retired high school teacher
COMMERCE - Mrs. Frances Armour Barnett, 87, died Monday, May 1, 2000, at Peachtree Plantation.
A native of Wilkes County, Mrs. Barnett was a daughter of the late Earl W. and Nan Wall Armour.
She was a graduate of Washington High School and of the University of Georgia. Mrs. Barnett was a retired high school English teacher, and after retirement served as a supply teacher for Toccoa and Commerce High Schools. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Commerce, the Ruth Naomi Sunday School Class UMW and Circle One. Mrs. Barnett was also a member of the D.A.R., the Commerce Ladies Study Club and the Commerce Garden Club.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 3, in the chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Revs. Hoyt Allen and Warren Huddleston officiating. Burial was in Rest Haven Cemetery, Washington, Ga.
Survivors include her husband, William Merriwether Barnett; brother-in-law, Thomas L. Barron, Atlanta; one niece, Nan Harpole, Duluth; one nephew, Tommy Barron Jr., Snellville; three great-nieces, two great-nephews and five great-great-nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Commerce First United Methodist Church Building Fund or to Alzheimer's Disease Research.

MR. ARCHER
Jackson County native
CENTER - Rickey J. Archer, 39, died Sunday, April 30, 2000, at his residence.
Mr. Archer was born December 21, 1960, in Jackson County. He was a son of J.D. Archer, Center, and Betty Lou Martin Matthew, Nicholson.
Mr. Archer was employed with Adams Tile & Stucco and was a member of Freedom Church of God.
Memorial services were held Tuesday, May 2, in the chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Rev. Tim Garrett officiating.
Survivors, in addition to his parents, include his wife, Darleen Archer; one son, Andrew Archer, Comer; one daughter, Amanda Archer, Comer; two brothers, Bryan Archer and Mickey Archer, both of Nicholson; and two sisters, Vickey Matthews, Danielsville, and Sherry Presley, Comer.

Thurmond N. Nation died Wednesday, April 26, 2000.
Mr. Nation was a native of Jackson County. He was a son of the late Gertrude and Otis Wilson, Commerce, and Nute Nation, Toccoa.
Funeral services were held Friday, April 28, at Wards Fairview Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Jerry Jones officiating. Burial was in Fairview Memorial Gardens.
Survivors include his wife, Glennis Nation; two sons, the Rev. Danny Nation and Keith Nation, both of McDonaugh; one sister, Merry L. Scoggins, Homer; two brothers, Hershel Nation, Florida, and Roy Wilson; and a number of grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

COMMERCE - Mrs. Cleo McCoy Carter, 82, died Monday, May 1, 2000, at Athens Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Carter was born February 17, 1918, in Banks County. She was a daughter of the late Willie Herman and Etta Craig McCoy.
Mrs. Carter was retired from the Banks County Department of Family and Children Services and was a member of Webbs Creek Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Carter.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 3, in the chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Rev. Bob Hill and Ronald Hinson officiating. Burial was in the Webbs Creek Baptist Church cemetery.
Survivors include one son, Tim Carter, Commerce; three sisters, Jimmy Brown, Commerce, Addie Pearl Sanders, Atlanta, and Sara Segars, Homer; and one grandchild.

MR. PENNINGTON

PENDERGRASS - Richard Thomas "Ricky" Pennington, 43, died Wednesday, April 26, 2000, following a farming accident.
Mr. Pennington was born November 26, 1956, in Barrow County. He was the son of Kathryn C. Pennington, Pendergrass, and the late Thomas M. Pennington.
Mr. Pennington had lived most of his life in Jackson County and was self-employed as a truck driver. He was a member of Mountain Creek Baptist Church, Pendergrass, and a member of the Savannah Valley Antique Tractor Club.
Funeral services were held Saturday, April 29, at Mountain Creek Baptist Church with the Revs. Myron Leckie and Jeff Langley officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Alton Cooper, Gary Cooper, David Grogan, Jeremy Suttle, Tommy Blackstock, Chuck Wallen and Jim Henderson served as pallbearers.
Survivors, in addition to his mother, include his wife, Marcy C. Pennington; three sons, Eric Pennington, Ricky Pennington and Ben Pennington, all of Pendergrass; one daughter, Megan Pennington, Pendergrass; two sisters, Connie Bruce and Billie Dean Quillian, both of Pendergrass; one niece, four nephews and two great-nieces.

MONROE - Walter "Junior" Priest, 61, died Sunday, April 30, 2000.
Born in Gwinnett County, Mr. Priest was a son of the late Walter and Lunie Bell Knight Priest.
He was a former resident of Porterdale and was employed with Georgia Pacific.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 2, in the chapel of Carter Funeral Home, Winder, with the Rev. Bob McKinney officiating. Burial was in the Bay Creek Baptist Church cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Daisy Priest; one daughter, Marie Queen, Winder; six sisters, Linda Moon, Winder, Faye Peppers and Linda Ewing, both of Auburn, Laura Palmer, Loganville, Mary Nell Stephens, Lawrenceville, and Barbara Ann Hill, Canon; two brothers, Hank Priest, Commerce, and William Kidd, Auburn; and two grandchildren.

Jackson County native
ATLANTA - Mrs. Grace Braselton Cook, 102, died Friday, April 28, 2000, at her residence following a period of declining health.
Mrs. Cook was a native of Jackson County and was a longtime resident of Jacksonville, Fla., where she was an active member of Southside Baptist Church.
She graduated from Brenau Academy and Brenau College in Gainesville, where she was a member of the Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority.
Her father, William Henry Braselton, was one of the founders of Braselton Brothers Enterprises in Braselton.
Mrs. Cook was preceded in death by a sister, Sadie Belle Braselton Ward, Gainesville.
Funeral services were held Monday, May 1, at Zion Baptist Church, Braselton, with the Rev. Ron Flowers officiating. Burial was in the Braselton Family Cemetery.
Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Robert W. and Mary Helen Cook, Atlanta, Dr. Joseph Braselton and Patricia Cook, Miami, Fla., and John Richard and Lisa Cook, Santa Rosa Beach, Fla.; brother and sister-in-law, Harrison W. and Dorothy Braselton, Lawrenceville; 10 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

MRS. BEARDSLEY

DUNEDIN, FLA. - Mrs. Jean Smith Beardsley, 80, died Saturday, April 29, 2000, in Titusville, Fla., after a long illness.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, May 5, at the First Presbyterian Church of Dunedin.
Mrs. Beardsley was born June 21, 1919, in Clearwater, Fla., to the late Della and Albert Smith. She graduated from Clearwater High School in 1936 and from the Gordon Keller School of Nursing at Tampa Municipal Hospital in 1940 and worked as a registered nurse before and during World War II, mostly in private duty.
She was married
for more than 50 years to the late James L. Beardsley, long-time editor of The Clearwater Sun, and they were named History Maker Family of 1981 by the Dunedin Historical Society.
She served as a volunteer for years in a resale shop operated by the local mental health organization and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Dunedin. She was preceded in death by a brother, Ray H. Smith, formerly of Sebring, Fla.
Surviving are three children, Mark Beardsley, Commerce, Laurel Beardsley, Titusville, Fla., and James K. Beardsley, Dunedin, Fla.; a sister, Claire Houghton, Dunedin, Fla.; a brother, Glenn Smith, Crawfordville, Fla.; and four grandchildren.
