ALTO - Mrs. Lillie Pendergrass Clark, 86, died Friday, April 28, 2000, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center, Gainesville.
Mrs. Clark was born April 22, 1914, in Oglethorpe County. She was a daughter of the late William Thaddius and Bessie Snipes Pendergrass.
Mrs. Clark was a homemaker and a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bud Clark.
Funeral services were held Sunday, April 30, in the chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Rev. Paul Morris officiating. Burial was in Banks Memorial Gardens, Homer.
Survivors include one son, James Clark, Alto; one daughter, Mildred Heck, Maysville; two sisters, Ethel Gary, Nicholson, and Maybelle Mote, Porterdale; nine grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

MR. STRAUGHN
U.S. Army veteran
SUWANEE - Robert J. "Johnny" Straughn, 78, died Sunday, April 30, 2000.
Mr. Straughn was a native of Greenville, S.C. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during World War II, receiving two Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart.
Mr. Straughn was a retired electronics salesman, a member of the Baptist church and a member of the V.F.W. in Atlanta.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 3, in Ward's Stone Mountain Chapel with the Revs. Sondra Jones and Eric Morphis officiating. Burial was in Grey Hill Cemetery, Commerce.
Survivors include son and daughter-in-law, Alan and Wanda Straughn, Suwanee; and three grandchildren, Melissa, Krista and Lindsey Straughn.

MRS. DOOLEY
Retired seamstress
WINDER - Mrs. Naomi B. Dooley, 84, died Tuesday, May 2, 2000.
Born in Morgan County, Mrs. Dooley had resided in Barrow County for most of her life. She was a daughter of the late William J. and Dora Lee Brooks Baskin.
Mrs. Dooley was a retired seamstress and was a member of the Winder Church of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 4, at the Winder Church of the Lord Jesus Christ with Pastor Tommy Baker officiating. The body will be placed in the church at 1:30 p.m. Burial will be in Barrow Memorial Gardens.
Survivors include her husband, Prince Dooley; one son, Phillip Dooley, Winder; three sisters, Maude Dooley and Lola Wall, both of Winder, and Emilyn Ryles, Columbus; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
The family was to have received friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Carter Funeral Home, Winder.

WINDER - Buford Farrell Norton, 67, died Wednesday, April 26, 2000.
Mr. Norton was a son of the late Oliver J. and Hettie Lane Norton.
He served as a master sergeant in the U.S. Army for 21 1/2 years.
Funeral services were held Saturday, April 29, in the chapel of Smith Funeral Home, Winder, with the Rev. Michael Smith officiating. Burial was in Barrow Memorial Gardens.
Survivors include his wife, Millie Frances Phillips Norton; three daughters, Debra Ann Kinley, Danielsville, Judy Lynn Skinner, Winder, and Sylvia Jean Norton, Jefferson; three sons, Travis Eugene Norton, Marvin Oliver Norton and Howard Ferrell Norton, all of Winder; one sister, Arlene Wood, Macon; two brothers, Clinton Norton, Watkinsville, and Todd Norton, Sparta; 15 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

ATHENS - Mrs. Frances Waller, 69, died Wednesday, April 26, 2000.
A native of Clarke County, Mrs. Waller was a daughter of the late James E. and Lena Myrl Whitehead Brittian.
She was an interior decorator.
Graveside services were held Saturday, April 29, in Oconee Hill cemetery with Paul Brown officiating.
Survivors include two sons, William E. Waller Jr., Dallas, and James T. Waller, Commerce; and four grandchildren.

MAYSVILLE - Mrs. Zudie Mae Cheek Dalton, 62, died Thursday, May 4, 2000, at St. Mary's Hospital, Athens, following a brief illness.
Mrs. Dalton was born January 2, 1938, in Stephens County. She was a daughter of the late Jack and Della Ramey Cheek.
Mrs. Dalton was employed with Solectron and attended Line Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Dalton.
Funeral services were held Sunday, May 7, in the chapel of Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel, Baldwin, with the Revs. Ernest Hunter and Kenneth McEntire officiating. Burial was in the Line Baptist Church cemetery.
Survivors include one daughter, Rosa Lee Pancoast, Carnesville; one son, Clinton Turpin, Elberton; one sister, Doris Grantom, Toccoa; three brothers, Andrew Cheek and Phillip Cheek, both of Toccoa, and Jack Cheek, Clarkesville; and two grandchildren.

MR. SWINDLE
U.S. Army veteran
NICHOLSON - Harold S. Swindle, 83, died Monday, May 8, 2000, at his residence.
A native of Madison County, Mr. Swindle was a son of the late Tilman and Nellia Adams Swindle.
He was a U.S. Army veteran and was a retired poultry farmer. Mr. Swindle was a member of Nicholson Baptist Church and had attended New Hope Baptist Church. He was also a member of Hudson Lodge #294 F&AM.
Mr. Swindle served as Democratic Committeeman for Jackson County, Justice of the Peace and as Mayor of Nicholson for 18 years.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 10, in the chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Revs. Ervin Goss, Mike Stowers and Robert Nash officiating. Burial was in the Nicholson Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Ella Tee Coleman Swindle; son and daughter-in-law, Terry and Jackie Swindle, Nicholson; daughter and son-in-law, Pat and Jack Pirkle, Clermont; sister and brother-in-law, Sybil and Herbert Barnett, Nicholson; grandsons and wives, Keith and Jenny Swindle and Tim and Jill Swindle, all of Nicholson; grandchildren, Toby Swindle, Nicholson, and Ashley, Allison and Shawn Pirkle, all of Clermont; and four great-grandchildren, Kelsey, Courtney, Shayla and Zack, all of Nicholson.

MAYSVILLE - Dennis Hill, 51, died Sunday, May 7, 2000, at BJC Medical Center, Commerce.
Mr. Hill was born August 14, 1948, in Hall County. He was a son of Mary Frances Martin Hill, Maysville, and the late Don L. Hill.
Mr. Hill was self-employed in maintenance and was of the Baptist denomination.
Funeral services were held Monday, May 8, in the chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Rev. Brian Stowe officiating. Burial was in Sunrise Cemetery, Maysville. David Reynolds, Ben Hopkins, William Austin, James Scroggs, Eddie Pruitt, Emory Merk and Larry Presley served as pallbearers.
Survivors, in addition to his mother, include one daughter, Sharon Denise Hill, Gainesville; and one brother, Steve Hill, Hull.

MRS. TAMBLYN
Canada native
ALTO - Mrs. Helen Tamblyn, 97, died Sunday, April 30, 2000.
A native of Ontario, Canada, Mrs. Tamblyn was a daughter of the late Francis W. and Eliza Lockhead Hughes.
She was employed by the Bell Telephone Company of Canada following her graduation from the University of Western Ontario.
Mrs. Tamblyn was preceded in death by her husband, John Ware Tamblyn.
A remembrance will be held at the Tamblyn home in Hollingsworth on Mother's Day afternoon, May 14. Family and friends are invited to attend, it was stated.
Mrs. Tamblyn is survived by one son, Peter; three grandchildren, Jeff, Sarah and Cassia; and two great-grandchildren, Vincent and Victoria.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Nature Conservancy or to the World Wildlife Fund.

STARR, S.C. - Jimmy Carlton Brown, 60, died Thursday, May 4, 2000, at Anderson Area Medical Center.
A native of Banks County, Mr. Brown was a son of James Brown and Mae Linda McLennan, Commerce.
He was a logger and was retired.
Funeral services were held Saturday, May 6, in the chapel of Woodlawn Funeral Home with the Rev. Gordy Craft officiating. Burial was in Forest Lawn Memorial Garden, Anderson, S.C.
Survivors, in addition to his parents, include his wife, Sara R. Brown; one daughter, Nancy Harbin, Anderson, S.C.; one son, Marty Brown, Anderson, S.C.; four step-sons, David Brock, Robert Brock, Roy Brock and Sammy Brock, all of Anderson, S.C.; one brother, Jack Brown, Commerce; two sisters, Kay Hill, Maysville, and Tilly Wilson, Black Mountain, N.C.; and two grandchildren, Jake and Daniel Harbin, both of Anderson, S.C.
