COMMERCE - Jim Norman, 48, died Thursday, May 4, 2000, at his residence.
Mr. Norman was born September 21, 1951, in Cleveland County, N.C. He was a son of the late Robert Max Norman and the step-son of Karl and Charlene Notz, Kingston, Tenn.
Mr. Norman was employed with Wal-Mart and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Oakridge, Tenn. He was also a member of the Banks County Volunteer Fire Department and the Banks County Booster Club and served as a Boy Scout leader.
Funeral services were held Saturday, May 6, at Beaverdam Baptist Church with the Rev. David Friend officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Survivors, in addition to his step-parents, include his wife, Linda Sue Kerr Norman; two sons, James Randall Norman and Robert Max Norman, both of Commerce; two brothers, Tommy Norman, Murfreesboro, Tenn., and Tom Notz, Oakridge, Tenn.; and three sisters, Karen Miller, Cincinnati, Ohio, Julie Siemmens, Knoxville, Tenn., and Kathy Wellborne, Louisville, Ky.

MR. LANCE
Retired construction worker
JEFFERSON - Jack Leonard Lance, 61, died Wednesday, May 3, 2000, at Athens Regional Medical Center following a sudden illness.
Mr. Lance was born January 15, 1939, in Jackson County. He was a son of Myrtle Bray, Commerce, and the late L.C. Lance.
Mr. Lance was a retired construction worker. He was preceded in death by his wife, Christine Vickery Lance.
Funeral services were held Sunday, May 7, in the chapel of Evans Funeral Home, Jefferson, with the Rev. Donald Wilson officiating. Burial was in Danielsville Memorial Gardens.
Survivors, in addition to his mother, include two sons, Wiley Leanord Lance, Ellijay, and Johnny Lance, Oakwood; four daughters, Kathaleen Parlier, Grantsville, Jackie Gaffney, Cumming, Sherri Ramey, Braselton, and Tina Norsworthy, Flowery Branch; and four brothers, William Lance and Buren Bray, both of Jefferson, Telford Bray, Braselton, and Randall Bray, Illinois.

MRS. STEWART
Former teacher
CLAYTON - Mrs. Lucy Cornelia Phillips Wilburn Stewart, 74, of Clayton, died Sunday, May 7, 2000.
Mrs. Stewart was born in Madison County, a daughter of the late Otis and Ruth Watson Phillips.
She was a former teacher and had been employed with Champion Clothing Store. Mrs. Stewart was preceded in death by her first husband, J.B. Wilburn, and her second husband, Edward Stewart.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 9, at Collier Baptist Church with the Revs. Terry Smith and Ray Jenkins officiating. Burial was in Danielsville Memorial Gardens.
Survivors include one daughter, Sheila Kelley, Comer; one son, Johnny Wilburn, Homer; two step-daughters, Marinell Hettrick, Athens, and Susan Williams, Hull; two step-sons, William Stewart, Monticello, and David Stewart, Lakeland, Fla.; one sister, Jean Williams, Commerce; and one grandson, Troy Wilburn.

MRS. AKIN
Homemaker
MARTIN - Mrs. Fannie Mae Carroll Akin, 94, died Friday, May 5, 2000, at the home of her daughter.
Mrs. Akin was born February 18, 1906, in Franklin County. She was a daughter of the late G.S. "Jack" and Betty Mauldin Carroll.
Mrs. Akin was a homemaker and an active member of Broad River Baptist Church and the Joy Agers Sunday School class. She was preceded in death by her husband, John D. Akin, a grandson, David Williams, three sons, James Lanier Akin, John D. Akin Jr. and David Kenneth Akin, four brothers, George Carroll, John Will Carroll, Grady Carroll and Sean Carroll, and a sister, Ruby Crenshaw.
Funeral services were held Sunday, May 7, at Broad River Baptist Church with the Revs. Ernest Ivester, Jason Defoor and Michael Bell officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Mark Akin, Tim Akin, Harold Gillespie, Brian Akin, Doug Akin, Greg Milford, John Addison and Mike Horan served as pallbearers.
Survivors include two sons, S.J. Akin and Charles Akin, both of Martin; three daughters, Mary Williams, Martin, Peggy Addison, Eastanollee, and Patsy Milford, Carnesville; one brother, Preston Carroll, Lavonia; 20 grandchildren and 41 great-grandchildren.

MR. SCOTT
Retired machinist
CARNESVILLE - Elliott Franklin "Boots" Scott, 66, died Tuesday, April 25, 2000, at Cobb Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Scott was born July 22, 1933, in Franklin County. He was a son of the late Henry and Clara Pritchett Scott.
Mr. Scott was married
to Bettie Sue Crump on April 26, 1952. Before retirement, he had worked as a machinist for Milliken Industries, with 25 years of service. Mr. Scott was a member of Hunters Creek Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon for 35 years. He was preceded in death by a brother, Roy Scott.
Funeral services were held Friday, April 28, at Hunter's Creek Baptist Church with the Revs. Craig Brown and Michael Bell officiating. Burial was in Franklin Memorial Gardens.
In addition to Mrs. Scott, his wife, survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Deborah Ann Scott and Joel Bufford, Carnesville; three brothers, Jack Scott, Toccoa, Lewis Scott, Clinton, S.C., and Schaffer Scott, Anderson, S.C.; and two sisters, Annie Bell Purcell and Ealon Hansard, both of Marietta.

Susie B. Freeman
Mrs. Susie B. Freeman, 75, of Danielsville, died Thursday, April 20, 2000.
A native of Jackson County, Mrs. Freeman was a daughter of the late Harvey and Chester Toney Brooks.
She was retired from Georgia Sportswear and was a member of Victory Baptist Church. Mrs. Freeman was preceded in death by her husband, George T. Freeman, and two brothers, William Brooks and Claude Brooks.
Funeral services were held Saturday, April 22, at Victory Baptist Church with the Revs. Elmer Butler and Ray Jenkins officiating. Burial was in Ila Cemetery. Members of the Athens-Clarke County Fire Department Honor Guard served as pallbearers.
Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, June and Gary Beale, Rabun Gap; sons and daughters-in-law, Tommy and Gail Freeman and Terry and Pam Freeman, all of Ila, and David and Tamara Freeman, Nicholson; one sister, Myrtle Gordon, Colbert; 10 grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, two step-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Henry F. Haley Jr.
Henry Freeman "Junior" Haley Jr., 71, of Royston, died Wednesday, April 19, 2000, at the Brown Convalescent Center.
A native of Franklin County, Mr. Haley was born December 29, 1928. He was a son of the late Henry Freeman Sr. and Marietta Fulbright Haley.
Mr. Haley was disabled and had been employed as a maintenance worker with the University of Georgia. He was a member of Indian Creek Baptist Church.
Mr. Haley was preceded in death by a brother, Fred Haley.
Funeral services were held Thursday, April 20, at the B.D. Ginn Memorial Chapel at Ginn Funeral Home, Carnesville, with the Rev. Leonard Morton officiating. Burial was in the New Hope Baptist Church cemetery.
Survivors include two brothers, Winfred Haley, Royston, and Johnny Haley, Brookhaven, Miss.; one sister, Helen Pace, Athens; three nieces and six nephews.

Laura B. Pullian
Mrs. Laura B. Pullian, 58, of Bowman, died Thursday, April 20, 2000.
A native of Madison County, Mrs. Pullian was a daughter of the late George T. and Gussie Scogin Brooks.
She was a homemaker. Mrs. Pullian was preceded in death by two brothers, George Cordon Brooks and William Hoyt Brooks.
Funeral services were held Saturday, April 22, in the chapel of Brown Funeral Home, Danielsville, with the Rev. Glenn Guest officiating. Burial was in Danielsville Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers were David Chastain, Trent Martin, Kevin Martin, Ty Parham, Randy Hart and Scott Pullian.
Survivors include her husband, Claudie Pullian; two daughters, Leandrea Pullian, Bowman, and Karen Hart, Canon; one son, Mike Pullian, Bowman; two sisters, Patsy Standridge and Bertha Brooks, both of Comer; three brothers, Joe L. Brooks, Robert T. "Bob" Brooks and James Ralph Brooks, all of Comer; and several nieces and nephews.

Bryan H. Collier
Bryan Hardeman "Brad" Collier, 30, of Auburn, died Monday, April 17, 2000.
A longtime resident of Madison County, Mr. Collier was a son of Ralph and Barbara Collier, Colbert, and Stanley Hardeman, Athens.
He was a grandson of Anna "Sue" West and the late Jessie West and James and Florence Hardeman, all of Athens.
Mr. Collier was a 1988 graduate of Madison County High School and in 1990, joined the U.S. Army. For three years he was stationed in Seneca Army Depot in New York, before being stationed for three years at Fort Clayton, Panama, Central America, during which time he obtained the rank of sergeant.
He was a member of Colbert Baptist Church and was recently attending Hebron Baptist Church, Dacula. Mr. Collier was employed as manager of Right Choice Staffing Service in Suwanee.
Funeral services were held Thursday, April 20, at Colbert Baptist Church with the Rev. Don Fuller officiating. Burial was in the Colbert Cemetery. Pallbearers were John Bacon, Brad Wham, Tom Lawton, Mitch Hardeman, Greg Booth, Phil Booth, Chris Tamplin, Wesley Stewart and Andy Collier.
Survivors, in addition to his parents and grandparents, include his wife, Claudia Lynn Collier; one daughter, Maggie Collier, 10 years old; one son, Zachary Collier, 5 years old; brother and sister-in-law, Robbie and Christy Collier, Comer; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Allen Ledford
Allen Ledford, 54, of Commerce, died Thursday, April 20, 2000.
A native of Jackson County, Mr. Ledford was a son of Curtis and Mary Beck Ledford, Commerce.
He was employed as a truck driver for Gold Kist Feed Mill and was a member of Ridgeway Baptist Church. Mr. Ledford was preceded in death by a brother, Tommy Ledford.
Funeral services were held Sunday, April 23, at Ridgeway Baptist Church with the Rev. Bill Manus and Mike Faulkner officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Survivors, in addition to his parents, include his wife, Martha Strickland Ledford; son and daughter-in-law, Tony and Kim Ledford, Commerce; five brothers, Kenneth Ledford, Steve Ledford and Donny Ledford, all of Commerce, Mark Ledford, Carnesville, and Terry Ledford, Lula; three sisters, Doris Leachman and Carol Pace, both of Commerce, and Susan Strickland, Carnesville; and two grandchildren, Kyle and Kevin Ledford, both of Commerce.
