Mr. Kenneth H. Holden, age 54 of Free Home, passed away Sunday, Feb. 17, 2008.
Kenny graduated from Pickens High School in 1971. He was employed by Wal-Mart in the produce department and was a member of Free Hope Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Rita Holden, Free Home; daughters, Brandi Herfurth, Canton, and Brianna Holden, Woodstock; and brothers, Larry Holden, Marble Hill, Danny Holden, Tate, and Andy Holden, Jasper. Two grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Thressa Petrizzo
Thressa Elaine Underwood Petrizzo, age 42 of Canton, Ga., passed away Sunday, Feb. 24, 2008 at Northside Cherokee Hospital.
Thressa was born Thursday, Dec. 16, 1965 in Fulton Co., Ga. to Ethridge and Ramona Nicholson Underwood. She had lived the past four years in Canton, Ga. where she was a member of the Elbethal Baptist Church. Thressa loved making crafts, sewing clothes and quilting. She was preceded in death by a baby brother, Ethridge Underwood, Jr.
Survivors include her father and mother, Ethridge and Ramona Underwood; daughter, Jesse Payton Petrizzo, Canton; son, Michael Kevin; sister, Tammy Bertrand, Jasper, Ga.; sister, Tracey Underwood, Lawrenceville, Ga.; uncles and aunts, Evan and Ellen Underwood, Dilmus and Marie Addington, Stella Waters, R.L. and Kay Rhymer, Audrey and J.R. Burgess, Lynn and Bonnie Nicholson; and niece, Tara Bertrand, Jacksonville, Al.

Verlon Troglin
Mr. Verlon Troglin, age 53 of Jasper, passed away Sunday, March 2, 2008 at his residence. He was a member of Jasper Church of God.
Survivors include his brothers and sister-in-law, Ernest Troglin and Eugene and Sharon Troglin, all of Jasper; sisters and brothers-in-law, Christine and Gene Kent, Dawsonville, Janie and Philip Imbriano, Talking Rock, Norma and Cary Owen, Lawrenceville, and Louise and Ron Warren, Jasper. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Verlon was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Berla Troglin; and brothers, Charles and James (Bud) Troglin.
The funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 5 from Cagle Funeral Home with the Rev. Luke Wheeler officiating. iIntermentfollowed in Sunrise Memorial Gardens with local Chapter 47 DAV in charge of graveside military rites. Pallbearers were: Jason Gaddis, Chuck Bradley, Pat Charles, Jordan Warren, Jamie Matthers and Johnny and Butch Troglin. Honorary pallbearers were: Brent Owen and Gary (Beeper) Charles. Harris Loyd
Mr. Harris Loyd, age 66 of Jasper, Ga., passed away Monday, Feb. 25, 22008 at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta, Ga.
Survivors include his son, Billy Loyd, Jasper; daughters and sons-in-law, Jamica and David Carver, Talking Rock, Ga., Darlene Loyd, Temple, Ga., and Marlene and Randy Garner, Covington, Ga.; brother and sister-in-law, Larry and Beverly Loyd, Dawsonville; and grandchildren, Amy and Matt White, Eric Garner, Courtney and Cody Carver.

Georgia Stanley
Mrs. Georgia Ada Stanley, age 88 of Jasper, Ga. passed away Sunday, March 2, 2008.
Mrs. Stanley was born on Sept. 15, 1919 in Dawson County, the daughter of the late Henry Clay Jones and Lillie Thurman Jones. She was a homemaker and a member of the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Bartow County. Mrs. Stanley was preceded in death by her husband, Ted Stanley; and daughter, Judy Stanley Silver.
Survivors include her sons, Romie and Bobby Stanley, both of Ellijay, and David Stanley, Jasper; daughters, Janie German, Resaca, Evelyn Mullinax, Jasper, Peggy Davis, Blue Ridge, Wilma Holquin, Jasper, and Dale Teem, Ellijay; and sisters, Mary Clay Davis and Flora Mae Burns, both of Chatsworth.
Thirty-five grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great-grandchildren also survive.
The funeral service was held Wednesday, March 5 at 2 p.m. from Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Bartow County with Revs. Donald McCollum and Jerry Cowart officiating. Music was by Alan Moss. Pallbearers were: Eric Duncan, Randy Hughes, Phillip Wright, Travis Dockery, Craig Collett, Jesse Teem, Justin Phillips. James Thurber
James Edward Thurber of Bent Tree Community in Jasper died on April 6, 2008 at home after a long illness. He was 64.
Born in Everett, Ma., he was raised in both Lynnfield and Everett, Ma. and graduated from Northeastern University in 1966. After living in Chatham, N.J. and Coral Springs, Fl., he and his wife settled in the Bent Tree Community six years ago to be closer to their children.
He was a casualty claim manager with Allstate Insurance Company for more than thirty years. And after making his home in Jasper, he became an active member of Church of the Holy Family, volunteering in their ministry with the Community Food Pantry.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy Olpp Thurber; son, Timothy James, Atlanta; daughter, Mrs. Brian (Courtney) Pascual, Smyrna; and one grandchild, Meghan Isabel.
Services were held at the Episcopal Church of the Holy Family, Jasper on April 12 at 11 o’clock. Those who wish may contribute in his memory to CARES, formerly the Community Food Pantry of Pickens County.
Jackie Bruce
Mr. Jackie William Bruce, age 60 of Canyon, Tx., formerly of Canton, Ga., passed away on Friday, April 4, 2008.
Mr. Bruce was a graduate of Mercer University with a BS in Education and Major in Social Studies. He was a faculty member of Cherokee High School for over 15 years, served as president of the Cherokee Education Association, member of Indian Knoll Baptist Church and a member of Bible Believers Baptist Church in Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Oveline Densmore and the Rev. William Bruce. Survivors include his aunt, Helen Densmore, Jasper; several loving cousins and close friends including Lee and Pamela Wall; God-son, Christopher Wall; and hundreds of students he inspired.
The funeral service was held at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, April 10 from Sosebee Memorial Chapel with the Revs. Danny Baker, John Holaway and Eric Mayo officiating. iIntermentfollowed in the Cherokee Memorial Park. Leon Setser
Mr. Leon Leo Setser, age 73 of Waleska, passed away on Saturday, April 12, 2008 at his residence. He was retired from the poultry plant and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife, Bessie Mae Setser, Waleska; sons, Bobby and Daniel Setser, both of Waleska, Stevie Setser, Jasper; daughters, Debra Allen, Waleska, Mary Gravley, Jasper, and Teresa Ann Sellers, Fairmount; sisters-in-law, Burtie Wooten, Lafayette, Bee Nix and Birthie Hodgens, both of Ranger, and Flora Setser, Waleska. Sixteen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren also survive.

Blake Priest
Mr. Blake Andrew Priest, age 18 of Talking Rock, passed away Wednesday, April 9, 2008 at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital.
Survivors include his father and step-mother, Tim and Connie Priest, Talking Rock, and mother and step-father, Stacey and Eddie Godfrey, Adairsville; grandparents, Fannie Morrow, Jasper, Robin Fair, Adairsville, and Marcia and Ronnie Poteet, Woodstock; and sister, Kaleigh Priest, Talking Rock.

Lenore DeMay
Mrs. Lenore DeMay, age 62 of Jasper, passed away Friday, April 11, 2008 at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta.
Survivors include her husband, Daniel DeMay, Jasper; daughters and sons-in-law, Paulette and Edwin Martin, Kennesaw, and Debbie and Tom Francuz, Ranger; brothers, Skip Andorf, Orland Park, Il., and Jim Riforgiato, Huntley, Il. sisters, Marlene Maniscalli, Romeoville, Il., Jacie Polzin, Itasca, Il., and Carol Smith, Schaumburg, Il.; and grandchildren, Danielle, Katilyn and Cody.
A memorial service was held at 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 15 from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with the Rev. Keith Lawrence officiating. The family did accept potted plants or arrangements, or donations may be made to the American Lung Association, 2452 Spring Road, Smyrna, Ga. 30080.
Ralph Offutt
Mr. Ralph Offutt, Jr., age 65 of the Bent Tree community and formerly of Calhoun, passed away at the Heartland Hospice House in Cartersville, Ga. on Thursday, April 10, 2008.
Survivors include his wife, Debbie Offutt, Bent Tree; sons, Steve, Stewart and Brent Offutt, all of Gwinette County; brother and sister-in-law, Russell and Deborah Offutt, Calhoun, half-brothers, Victor, Mitchell, John and Stanley Offutt, all of Calhoun; and sisters, Sonja Offutt Rainey, Rome, and Julie Offutt Wilson, Iowa. One grandchild also survives.

Mary Saye
Mrs. Mary P. Saye, age 76 of Ball Ground, Ga., passed away Thursday, April 10, 2008 at her residence.
Survivors include her sons, Kenneth Saye, Blue Ridge, and James and Harry Saye, both of Ball Ground; daughters, Rosemary Saye and Thelma Brumbelow, both of Ball Ground; and sister, Gracie Deece, Snellville. Sixteen grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren also survive.

William Dean
Mr. William “Dub” Dean, age 87 of Talking Rock, Ga., passed away Wednesday, April 9, 2008 at his residence following a period of declining health.
Born April 21, 1920 in Gilmer County, he was the son of the late William and Mollie Silvers Dean. Mr. Dean was employed as a greens keeper at a golf course.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Oneada Dean, Talking Rock; sons and daughters-in-law, Danny and Kathy Towery, Jasper, and Tim and Rhonda Dean, Talking Rock; and sisters, Sylvia Cryder, Calhoun, and June Padgett, Cartersville. Four grandchildren, one great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 12 from the Chapel of Roper Funeral Home with the Revs. Brondy Davis, Wallace Parks and Jerrold Young officiating. iIntermentfollowed in Mt. Janet Castle
Mrs. Janet Wallis Castle, age 78 of Atlanta, Ga., passed away peacefully Saturday, April 12, 2008.
She was born in Jacksonville, Fl. to the late J.B. and Mary Vernoy Wallis. She was preceded in death by her husband, William T. Castle, Sr., and by siblings, Jack Wallis and Connie Wilkinson.
Mrs. Castle was a long-time resident of Atlanta and Big Canoe, Ga. She was a founding member of Clairmont Presbyterian Church in Decatur and later a member of Big Canoe Chapel in Jasper, Ga. Janet was the owner of “The Spinning Wheel, ” a needlepoint and craft store at Toco Hills Shopping Center during the 1970s and 1980s. She was a member of the LaVista Garden Club and served as a hospital volunteer in Atlanta and Jasper as well as PTA and youth organizations at Braircliff High School and W.D. Thompson Elementary in DeKalb County.
She will always be remembered as a good friend, devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother.
Survivors include her children and their spouses, Mary and John Ferguson, Virginia, Libbe Castle, and Bill and Susan Castle, Atlanta; sister, Pat Walker, Jacksonville, Fl.; grandchildren, Sarah, Paige, Micah and Laney Castle and Stephanie and Robert Ferguson; and granddog, Harry.
The memorial celebration will be Thursday, April 17 at 2 p.m. from Clairmont Presbyterian Church in Decatur. She will be laid to rest at Arlington National cemetery on May 5 at 11 a.m. The family asks in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to the Alzheimer’s Association, Georgia Chapter, Hospice Atlanta and Plymouth Harbor Day Program for Older Adults at Central Congregational Church. George Wheeler
Mr. George Wheeler, age 61 of Jasper, passed away Sunday, April 13, 2008 at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital.
Survivors include his aunts, Betty Wheeler Arrendale, Marion, In., and Barbara Wood, Jasper; and special relatives, Helen Little and Jackie. One step-brother, two step-sisters and a host of cousins also survive.
