Marie Brown
Mrs. Marie Owensby Brown, age 76 of Calhoun, went to her Heavenly home on Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2008 after several years of declining health. She was a resident of Gordon Health Care and had spent most of her life as a full-time homemaker. Mrs. Brown was of the Church of God.
Mrs. Brown was born in Gilmer County, Ga. on Dec. 6, 1931, the daughter of the late John and Hettie Elrod Owensby. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Ruth Duffek; granddaughter, Zoe Duffek; sons-in-law, Gary Duffek and Sammy Logan; and brother, Johnny Owensby.
Survivors include her husband, the Rev. Leonard Brown, Calhoun, whom she married
on March 27, 1960; sons, Barry Brown, Atlanta, and David and Angie Brown, Reynolds, Ga.; daughters, Brenda and Rickey Logan, Talking Rock, Doris and David McLemore, Cathy Logan and Cindy and Sean Knight, all of Calhoun; stepson, Leonard Brown, Jr. and wife Charlotte, Atlanta; and step-daughter, Betty Chuipek and husband Bill, Buckhead; 15 grandchildren, three step-grandchildren and five step-great-grandchildren; and brother, Bill Owensby, Dalton, Ga. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
The funeral service was held Friday, Jan. 25 at 2 p.m. from Victory Temple Church of God with Pastor Jeff Dutton officiating. Burial was in Chandler cemetery with Alvin Hales conducting the graveside rites. Pallbearers were: Lee, James and Rickey Logan, David McLemore, Jonathon Brown, Anthony, Darrell and Tyrone Owensby. Stanley Pettit
Stanley Pettit, age 60 of Kennesaw, formerly of Canton, Ga., passed away Saturday, Jan. 26, 2008 at his residence.
Mr. Pettit was a member of Salem Baptist Church in Pickens County and was a Vietnam veteran.
Survivors include his sister, Charlotte Fields, Canton; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service was held Tuesday, Jan. 29 at noon from Huey Funeral Home Chapel in Canton with the Revs. Eugene Childers and Jim Amos officiating. iIntermentwas in Georgia National cemetery in Canton.
Dennis Freeman
Mr. Dennis Eugene Freeman, age 37 of Tate, passed away Friday, Jan. 18, 2008 in Cobb County.
Survivors include his wife, Gail Freeman, Tate; son, Cole Duncan, Tate; daughter, Jessica Jordan, Ball Ground; brother, Michael Bruce Freeman, Jasper; and sister, Deborah Stewart, Montana. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 25 from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with the Revs. Harold Mull and Carl Owenby officiating. iIntermentfollowed in Pleasant Hill Christian Church Cemetery. Fred Hathcock
Mr. Fred Wallace Hathcock, age 77 of Nelson, Ga., passed Monday, Jan. 14, 2008 at Brian Center Nursing Home in Canton, Ga. following a period of declining health.
Born Jan. 7, 1931 in Pickens County, he was the son of the late Cambell Wallace and Helen Fitts Hathcock. Mr. Hathcock was a veteran, having served over 20 years in the US Navy.
Survivors include his cousins.
The funeral service was held at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 16 from Roper Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. William Faucett officiating. A graveside service was held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 17 at Westview cemetery in Atlanta.
Robert (Drew) Webb
Robert Andrew “Drew” Webb of Jasper, Ga., passed away Monday, Jan. 21, 2008.
Born April 13, 1987 in Fulton County, Ga., he was employed as an archeological technician with R.S. Webb and Associates.
Survivors include his parents, Stephen and Kim Webb, Jasper; siblings, Christopher, Breanna and Mathew Webb, all of Jasper; and grandparents, James and Jo Parrish, Marietta, Ga. Aunts, uncles and cousins also survive.
A memorial service was held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 24 at Roper Funeral Home Chapel with Tom Shafer providing the eulogy.
Cameron Grant
Cameron Grant, age 6 years old, passed away Sunday, Jan. 27, 2008 at Scottish Rite Childrens Hospital in Atlanta.
Survivors include his parents, Michael and Crystal Grant, Dallas; grandparents, Jerry and Judy Wilson, Jasper, and Doug and Cathy Grant, Acworth; great-grandparents, Bea and Bill Anthony, Marietta, and Ollie Grant, Charlotte, N.C.; sister, Alexis Grant, Dallas; uncle, Jonathan Grant; and aunt, Chandra Wilson.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 31 from Shiloh Baptist Church in Kennesaw with Dr. Ben Langley and Rev. Steve Pettit officiating. Grant Everett
Mr. Grant McKay Everett, age 46 of Ranger, passed away Sunday at his residence.
Mr. Everett was born Dec. 20, 1961, son of Rembert and Wanda Hendrix of Fairmount, and he attended Fairmount Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Everett is survived by a daughter, Crystal Hendrix Allen and husband Brett; sisters, Rochelle and husband Scotty Cantrell and Jaronda and husband Jeff Crook, all of Fairmount; nieces and nephews, Nicole Cantrell, Jasper, Hannah Crook, Joshua Cantrell and Jonathon Crook, all of Fairmount; and great-nephew, Brayden Reece, Jasper.
The funeral service was held Thursday, Jan. 10 at 2 p.m. from New Hope Baptist Church in Ranger with the Rev. Ernest Channell officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were: Greg and Jason Hendrix, Richard and Mark Millsap, Tim Tate and Jimmy Brown. Irene Haygood
Mrs. Irene Haygood, age 63 of Canton, passed away Wednesday, Jan 7, 2008. She was a member of High Shoals Baptist Church in Dawsonville.
Survivors include her husband, Morris Haygood, Canton; sons, Mike Haygood, Cumming, David Greene, Holly Springs, and Stanley Haygood, Canton; daughters, Donna Holcombe, Talking Rock, and Vickie Blackwell, Jasper; brothers, Elvin and Roy Woody, both of Canton; sisters, Mary Jones, Sandersville, Ovielee Buchanan, Canton, and Ora Lee Ryder, Jasper. Eleven grandchildren and one great-grandchild also survives.

John Brooks
Mr. John Brooks, age 61 of Jasper, Ga., passed Monday morning, Jan. 7, 2008 at his residence.
Survivors include his wife, Gwen Brooks, Jasper; son, Chris Brooks, Jasper; daughter and son-in-law, Alycia Shirley and Thomas, Camp LaJune, N.C.; brothers, Michael Brooks, Woodstock, and Ricky Brooks, Fairmount, Ga.; sisters, Brenda Gowen, Port Richey, Fl., and Jo McDonough, Kennesaw, Ga.; and grandson, Nicholas Shirley.

Roger Marlow
Mr. Roger L. Marlow, age 41 of Ellijay, passed away Sunday, Jan. 6, 2008 at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital.
Survivors include his wife, April Marlow, Ellijay; father, Woodrow Marlow, Ellijay; son, Thomas Marlow, Ellijay; daughter, Jessica Marlow, Ellijay; brothers, Bart Marlow, Talking Rock, and Tony Marlow, Ellijay; sisters and brothers-in-law, Linda Pack, Ellijay, Katherine and Roy Blalock, Rebecca and Jerry Cronan and LaVonda Springfield, all of Ranger, and Missy and Butch Troglin, Jasper; brothers-in-law, Brian Coker, Hinton, Bobby Coker, Jasper, and Chris Coker, Tate. Several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews also survive.

Henry Garrett
Mr. Henry Wayne Garrett, age 73 of Powder Springs, Ga., went to his Heavenly home at 10:05 a.m. Friday, Jan. 11, 2008 at his home.
Son of the late Allen and Minnie B. McDaniel Garrett, he was a member of Eastwood Baptist Church, Marietta, member of Madisonville High School class of 1953, retired aeronautics planner with Lockheed Aircraft (1953-1990) after 37 years, member of Kennesaw Masonic Lodge #33 and Marietta Scottish Rite. Mr. Garrett was a well-known Tennessee Walking Horse owner and showman, a long-time member of Tennessee Walking Horse Association and Georgia Walking Horse Association.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Betty Jo Stiles Garrett (Betty’s World Famous Hot Dogs); daughters and sons-in-law, Connie G. and Earl Evans, Jasper, Ga., and Jennifer G. and Marvin Blanton, Campobello, S.C.; granddaughters, Laura Avereigh and Leah Jocelyn Blanton; grandson, Jared Blanton, all of Campobello; sister and brother-in-law, Linda Garrett and Ronald R. Hensley, Madisonville; brother and sister-in-law, Gordon (Pete) and Joan Garrett, Maryville; and nephews, Mike Garrett, Maryville, and Mitch Garrett, Baton Rouge, La. Many special family members and devoted friends also survive.

Robert Yates
Mr. Robert Yates, age 84 of Marble Hill, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2008 at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital.
Survivors include his son, James Mercer, McDonough, Ga.; daughters, Marie Brittain, Sharpsburg, Patricia Yates, Ball Ground, and Jean Archer, Marble Hill; and sisters-in-law, Stella Mae Fowler, McDonough, and Edna Duckett, Nelson. Ten grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild also survives.
A graveside service was held Friday, Jan. 11 at 11 a.m. from the Arbor Hill Baptist Church cemetery in Pickens County with the Rev. Phillip Padgett officiating. Infant Lanning
Infant Brandon Charles Lanning of Jasper passed away Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2008 at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital.
Survivors include the parents, Ashley Seay and Charles Lanning, Tate; grandparents, Jimmy and Teresa Privett, Jasper, B.W. Seay, Dahlonega, Helen Lanning and the late Jerry Lanning, Tate; great-grandparents, Sandra Grizzle and the late Vernon Grizzle, Alice Lanning and the late Vernie Lanning, Mattie Strickland and the late Tommy Strickland; great-great-grandparents, Mae and Mather Garrett; and other relatives, Amanda and Christain Seay, Brandon Grizzle, Elisha Hancock, Gene and Phillip McPherson, Aaron and Alisha Lanning, Valerie Crisp, Jennifer Lanning and Kristie and Ron Horsnby.

Sylvia Hubbs
Mrs. Sylvia June Hubbs, age 75 of Jasper (formerly of Big Canoe and Cameron Hall in Canton), passed away Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2008 at Mountain Health Care in Jasper.
Survivors include her daughter, Cynthia L. Waller, Big Canoe; brother, T.L. Beaty, Kerrville, Tx.; sister, Charlotte Morgan, Dallas, Tx.; sister-in-law, Becky Beaty, Duluth, Ga.; nephew, Jason Beaty; niece, Jan Beaty; grandchildren, Justin Waller, Kennesaw, and Ashley D. Waller, Newport Beach, Ca.; and great-grandchild, Isabell R. Waller, Kennesaw. Mrs. Hubbs was preceded in death by a brother, C.M. Beaty, Duluth.
The body was cremated and a memorial service was held Saturday, Jan. 5 at the Trinity Evangelical Church with Dr. George R. Callahan, PhD, officiating. Cagle Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
E.J. Kindall
E.J. Kindall, age 80 of Ypsilanti Township, Mi., passed away Saturday, Jan. 12, 2008 at his home.
Mr. Kindall was born Jan. 1, 1928 in Lupton, Tn., son of R.D. and Mae Bell (Long) Kindall. On Sept. 18, 1948 he married
Ruby Payne in Georgia and she preceded him in death on June 29, 1990. E.J. worked 36 years at General Motors, retiring in 1988, and then worked for Anderson Drywall for many years. He worked as an independent painter and worked in a sawmill in Georgia. He was a member of Antioch Baptist Church.
Survivors include his daughters, Judy (Gary) Wilford, Illinois, Diane (Marvin) Blankenship, Belleville, and Sharon “Sherry” (Jim) Cary, Ypsilanti; sons, James (Anne) Kindall, Manistee, and Larry (Cindy) Kindall, Ypsilanti; sisters, Marynell Chester and Louise (Roy) Hightower, both of Georgia. Sixteen grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, one sister and one granddaughter.
The funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 15 from Antioch Baptist Church with Pastor Kevin Lovejoy officiating. Burial took place in Washtenong Memorial Park. Stark Funeral Service, Moore Memorial Chapel, in charge of arrangements.
Aleen Wheeler
Mrs. Aleen Wheeler, age 94 if Jasper, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 2 2009 at Heritage Health Care in Jasper.
Mrs. Wheeler was a homemaker and was Baptist.
Survivors include her twin sister, Kathleen Gazaway, Canton; and brothers, Hubert Holcomb, Jasper, and Jack Holcomb, Locust Grove. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
