Maude Brackett
Mrs. Maude Samples Brackett, age 85 of Canton, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2010 at Northside-Cherokee Hospital.
Mrs. Brackett was a member of North Canton Baptist Church. After retiring from Canton Textile Mills, she worked at Floyd Togs.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Jesse (Freet) Samples, Jr.; and her second husband, Robert Brackett. Survivors include her children, Larry Eugene Samples and Deborah (Phillip) Morris, all of Canton; sister, Esther Pettigrew Woodring, Canton; grandchildren, Angela Gilbert and Eric Samples; great-granddaughter, Taylor Gilbert; and beloved caregiver, Brenda Brooks Poole.
The funeral service was held at noon on Thursday, Sept. 9 from Sosebee Memorial Chapel with the Revs. Kent Samples and Johnny Padgett officiating. iIntermentfollowed in Cherokee Memorial Park.
Robert Holbert
Robert W. (Hallett) Holbert, age 50 of Parsons, Ks., died unexpectedly Wednesday morning, Sept. 8. 2010.
He was born May 19, 1960 in Portsmouth, Va. to Vernon and Martha (Johnston) Holbert. He grew up in Parsons and was raised by his mother and step-father, Duane Hallett. Mr. Holbert lived in Jasper for two years where he completed his high school education. For many years he worked as an auto body repairman in Parsons.
Survivors include his sons, Jason Holbert, Jasper, and Jake and Cody Holbert, both of Parsons; daughter, Michelle Holbert, Parsons; four grandchildren; mother and step-father, Martha and Duane Hallett, St. Paul; father and step-mother, Vernon and Sylvia Holbert, Jasper; brothers, Mark and Eric Holbert, both of Jasper; and sisters, Jean Thompson. Carl Junction, Mo., Sue Figura and Teresa Schulze, both of St. Paul, Vicki Galloway, McCune, and Donna Hancock, Jasper.
A graveside service was held Saturday from West Bethany Cemetery.
Willie Bennett
Mrs. Willie Faye Bennett, age 91 of Jasper, Ga., died Thursday, Sept. 9, 2010, at the Brian Center in Canton, Ga. following a period of declining health.
Born July 4, 1919 in Pickens County, Ga., she was the daughter of the late Stacy and Cordelia Holt Moss. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Clinton Walter Bennett. Mrs. Bennett was a homemaker and was a member of the Jerusalem Baptist Church.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Marcell and Billy Duckett, Jasper; grandchildren, Randy and Debbie Duckett and Tammy Hollingshed, all of Jasper; and great-grandchildren, Alan and Marie Hollingshed. Other relatives also survive.

Eddie Jones
Mr. Eddie Jones, age 66 of Jasper, passed away Sept. 10, 2010 at his home.
Mr. Jones retired from the Pasco County and Pickens County Sheriff’s office. He was preceded in death by his father, Mr. Ed Jones, Sr.
Survivors include his mother, Mrs. Clara Jones, Jasper; brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Diane Jones, Jasper; sister, Judy Jones Schwarz, Florida; niece, Sonya Gossett; and nephews, Fred and Edward Schwarz and Chad Jones. One great-niece and five great-nephews also survive.

Hoyt Chastain
Mr. Hoyt “Pud” Chastain, age 81 of the Hinton Community, passed away at Wellstar-Kennestone Hospital.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Cynthia Chastain; brothers, Emory and Ulysses Chastain; and sister, Mildred Evans.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Suelane Chastain, Hinton, Ga.; sons, Keith, Jeff and Kris Chastain, all of Hinton; and brother, Horace Tom Chastain, Ludville, Ga. Eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild also survives.

Big John Garner
Mr. Big John Garner, age 79 of Talking Rock, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2010 at Atlanta Medical Center.
Survivors include his wife, Mildred Garner, Talking Rock; sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Wanda Garner and Bobby and Decca Garner, all of Jasper; daughter and son-in-law, Terresa and Russell Bunch, Jasper; and sister, Daisy Blankenship, Clenton, Al. Eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Sibyl Poole
Mrs. Sibyl Bryant Poole, age 89 of Jasper, passed away Thursday, Sept. 9, 2010 at North Fulton Hospital Hospice.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Claude Poole; and son, C.J. Poole.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, W.R. and Anita Poole, Jasper; daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda Joyce and Jim Wheeler, Talking Rock, and Bridget and Stanley Goss, Jasper; daughter-in-law, Dianna Poole, Jasper; sister- and brother-in-law, Faye and Reeford Bruce, Jasper; and grandchildren, Robin Poole, Tanya Langston, Shawn and Brandon Poole, Rachel Nichols, Sam Wheeler, Rhoda Gunnigle, Michael Poole and Robert and Sarah Goss. Fourteen great-grandchildren, two nieces and cousins also survive.

Olar Ray
Mrs. Olar Maggie Ray, age 95 of Tate, passed away Thursday, Sept. 9. 2010 at Marietta Health & Rehab Center.
Mrs. Ray was preceded in death by husband, Luke Ray, sons, Billy and Jerry Ray; and granddaughter, Carla Vaughn Bruce.
Survivors include daughters and son-in-law, Ethel Jean Ray, Tate, Eva and Joe Henderson, Marietta, and Oleta Kimball, Covington; sisters-in-law, Edith Brendle, Blairsville, and Marie Ray, Jasper. Eleven grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, 11 great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Gerald Underwood
Mr. Gerald Timothy Underwood, age 54 of Ellijay, Ga., died Tuesday, August 31, 2010 at his son’s residence following a sudden illness.
Born Dec. 28, 1955 in Avon Park, Fl., Mr. Underwood was a computer programmer for the State of Florida. He is preceded in death by his mother, Mrs. Thelma Spires Underwood.
Mr. Underwood was a member of the Old Faith Baptist Church and the American Legion Post #82 in Ellijay. He was also a United States Navy veteran having served 20 years. Survivors include his wife, Kathie Underwood, of Ellijay; sons, Joshua Underwood, Ball Ground, Ga., and Zachary Underwood, Akins, S.C..; father, G.T. Underwood, Ellijay; brother, Tony Underwood, Ellijay; and sister, Terri AndersonPort Charlotte, Fl. Nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.
At his request, Mr. Underwood will be cremated and no service will be held. Flowers are to be omitted. Roper Funeral Home of Jasper in charge of the arrangements.
Dewey Brendel
Mr. Dewey Brendel, age 86 of Calhoun, passed away Monday, August 30, 2010 at Gordon Hospital.
Mr. Brendel was born in Pickens County on April 29, 1924, son of the late Albert and Agnes Hightower Brendel. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a daughter, Cynthia Brendel in 2007; sister, Mildred Fields; and brothers, E.J., Junior, Horace and Truman Brendel.
Mr. Brendel was retired from Lockheed as an inspector. He was a devout Christian and loved spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Ruth Long Brendel; sons, Michael Brendel and Becky Rutledge, Calhoun, Ronald Brendel and wife Becky Adairsville, and Terry Brendel and wife Dawn, Acworth; brothers and sisters-in-law, John and Coda Brendel and Gene and Marie Brendel, all of Detroit, Mi., and Glen and Lois Brendel, Wayne and Margaret Brendel and Ray and Donna Brendel, all of Fairmount; sister and brother-in-law, Linda and Trammel Reece, Jasper; grandchildren, Stephanie Bradford, Amanda Torres, Ashley Brookshire, Tegan, Lexi, Ali and Nicholas Brendel; and great-grandchildren, Adam and Nick Bradford and Claudia Torres. Several nieces, nephews and many other relatives also survive.

Barry Holt
Mr. Barry Holt, age 61 of Jasper, passed at his residence early Sunday afternoon, August 29, 2010.
Survivors include his wife, Patsy Holt, Jasper; mother, Gladys Holt, Woodstock; son and daughter-in-law, Jamey and April Holt, Jasper; daughter, Melody Riddle, Jasper; brothers, David Holt, Texas, and Byron Holt, Jasper; and grandchildren, Taylor Holt and Bailey Riddle. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Duane Davis
Mr. Duane A. Davis, age 60 of Big Canoe, passed Saturday afternoon, Sept. 4, 2010 at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital in Jasper.
Survivors include his wife, Donna Davis, Big Canoe; daughters and son-in-law, Audrey Davis, New York, N.Y., and Lauren and Sean Cozart, Clarksville, Tn.; brother and sister-in-law, Dr. Dan C. and Ann Davis, Honolulu, Hawaii; sister and brother-in-law, Dr. Diana Davis and Dr. Bill Jannus, El Paso Tx.; and grandchildren Kaleb Davis and Konner Cozart.
A memorial service will be held Friday, Sept. 10 at 4 p.m. from the Big Canoe Chapel with Dr. Jim McCormick officiating. The family will accept house-type floral arrangements, but ask that memorials be made to a charity of your choice in memory of Mr. Davis. Cagle Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Jackie Jordan
Jackie Jordan, age 62 of Ball Ground, passed Sunday Sept. 5, 2010 at Northside Hospital Cherokee.
Survivors include his wife, Karen Jordan, Ball Ground; son and daughter-in-law, Jackson and Danielle Jordan, Ball Ground; daughters and sons-in-law, Katrina and Robert Nix, Jasper, and Dee and Brian Blalock, Canton; brothers, Hulan and Brenda Jordan, Ball Ground, William and Theresa Jordan, Cumming, and Robert and Sharon Jordan, Powder Springs; and grandchildren, Avery and Olivia Blalock and Emma and Gracie Nix, Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 7 from Sharp Mountain Baptist Church with the Revs. Phillip Burt, Greg Hamilton and Willard Wilson officiating. Internment followed at Sharp Mountain Baptist Church Cemetery.
Lloyd Grizzle
Lloyd Dean Grizzle, age 68 of Jasper, Ga. and formerly of Marietta, Ga., passed away on Monday, July 19, 2010 after an extended illness.
He was retired from Lockheed Martin Company where he worked as a senior aircraft design engineer for 30 years and was a member of the Mount Paran North Church of God and was also an ordained deacon.
Mr. Grizzle was the son of the late B.G. Grizzle of Dahlonega, Ga. and Bonnell Stevens of Marietta, Ga. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Roy G. Grizzle and Milton Grizzle; and one sister, Dorothy Jenkins.
Survived include his wife of 49 years, Delona Kaye Grizzle; sons, Darrell Lloyd Grizzle, Marietta, Dr. Daniel Craig Grizzle and Beverly, Dacula, Ga. and Jason Charles Grizzle and Janet of Gainesville, Ga.; grandchildren, Aaron Daniel, , Shane Matthew and Katie Elizabeth Grizzle; brothers, Arnold Grizzle and Joyce of Woodstock, Ga.; and sisters, Jean Patterson and Jarrell of Marietta and Lorene Lincoln of Montgomery, Al. Aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews also survive.
