Marjorie Childers
Mrs. Marjorie Childers, age 66 of Talking Rock, passed early Wednesday morning, Feb. 3, 2010 at her residence.
Survivors include her husband, Willie B. Childers, Talking Rock; sons, Timmy, Michael and Jason Childers, all of Talking Rock; daughters, Donna Tippens, Talking Rock, and Stephanie Housley, Blue Ridge; brother, J.M. Buttrum, Fairmount; and sisters, Jenny Hamrick, Teresa Blalock and Sue Cansler, all of Calhoun. Seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren also survive.
The funeral service was held Friday, Feb. 5 at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with the Rev. Herman Mulkey officiating. iIntermentfollowed in Jerusalem Baptist Church cemetery with Randy Housley, Chris Stone and Jody, Terry, Teddy and Bobby Buttrum serving as pallbearers. The family did accept flowers or those who desire may make donations to assist with the funeral expenses.
Douglas Gay
Douglas A. Gay, age 60 of Canton, died Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2010 at his residence.
He was a printer operator at Lucent Technologies and a member of Pleasant Union Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Wanda Gay, Canton; daughter, Claire Gay, Canton; brothers, Leon and Melvin Gay, Canton; sister, Martha Tippens, Jasper; and father-in-law, Billy Kuykendall, Canton. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Margaret Barrett
Mrs. Margaret Ann Barrett, age 71 of Ball Ground, passed away Sunday. Feb. 14, 2010 at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital.
Mrs. Barrett was a Registered Nurse and member of Nelson Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Doug Barrett, Ball Ground; son, Robbie Barrett, Ball Ground; brothers, Cub Hodgens, Nelson, and Mike (Wynette) Hodgens, Canton; sister, Carol (Richard) Rathbun. Franklin, N.C.; and granddaughter, Emily Barrett, Free Home. Several nieces nephews and extended family also survive.
A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 18 from the Sosebee Memorial Chapel with the Rev. James Rich officiating. The family will receive friends from 3 until the service hour. Mrs. Barrett was cremated. In lieu of flowers. donations can be made to the Ball Ground Library or a church of your choice.
Mildred Ingram
Mrs. Mildred Joyce Ingram, age 77 of Marietta, Ga., passed Saturday, Feb. 13, 2010 at Ross Memorial Health Care Center in Marietta following an extended illness.
Mrs. Ingram was born Nov. 26, 1932 in Savoie, Ky., the daughter of the late Henry James and Mary Rose White Cordell. She was a member of Elizabeth Baptist Church in Marietta.
Survivors include her husband of 53 years, Vernie Jackson Ingram, Jr., of the home; daughter and son-in-law, Mary Jo and Mark Williams, Kennesaw, Ga.; son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Gretchem Ingram, Eurharlee, Ga.; and sister, Ruby Smith, Marietta. Five grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Doris Ingle
Doris Alice Ingle, age 87 of Canton, Ga., passed on Feb. 14 at Heritage Healthcare of Jasper.
Survivors include her sons and daughter-in-law, Larry and Emma Ingle, Jasper, and Jerry Ingle, Canton; and brother, David Densmore, Jasper. Three grandchildren also survive.

Ben Patterson
Mr. Ben Patterson, age 66 of Talking Rock, passed Saturday, Feb. 13, 2010 at Wildwood Health Care, Inc.
Survivors include a brother and sister-in-law, Jerry Jabo and Joy Patterson, Jasper; sister, Mary Sue Parker, Jasper; and sisters-in-law Shirley Patterson, Fairmount, and Rebecca Patterson, Jasper. One niece and several nephews also survive.

Heath Laughlin, Jr.
Joseph Heath Laughlin, Jr. was born and raised in Savannah, Ga. on Oct. 2, 1919. He was a member of Hull Memorial Presbyterian Church. He attended Savannah High School, class of 1938, where he enjoyed classes in woodworking and learned mechanical drawing. Heath’s first job was for his uncle, John C. LeBey, a Savannah architect, where he learned to become an architectural draftsman. He graduated from Armstrong Junior College and entered Georgia Tech in the fall of 1940. He completed one year at Tech before being drafted into the Army Air Corp in WW II. He was trained as a mechanic for the P-38 Lightning and later was promoted to crew chief. He was stationed in California, Oregon and later Egypt.
Upon returning to the States, Heath resumed his education at Georgia Tech and completed his degree with a BS in Light Construction in December 1948. After college he took a job in Houston, Tx. with R.P. Farnsworth Co. in the Estimating Department and later worked for Gulf Oil in the Engineering and Construction Department. It was in Houston that he met his wife, Betty Irick. They were married
in December 1953. They were members of Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church. In 1959 Heath and Betty moved to Atlanta to be closer to family. They were members of North Avenue Presbyterian Church where Heath was a member of the choir. After a brief stint working for Delta Airlines, he was hired at Ira H. Hardin Co. where he worked first as a project manager and later as an estimator. He retired from Hardin Construction in 1986.
Upon retirement, Heath and Betty moved full time to Big Canoe where they joined the Big Canoe Chapel. Heath was a member of the choir and the Men’s Chorus. They were very involved with the Chapel and had a wonderful group of friends who traveled extensively in the US and abroad. In 1986 Heath and Betty were also charter members of the Big Canoe/ North Georgia Friendship Force. They traveled with the club and also hosted several exchange groups. For several years Heath and Betty were co-presidents of the Big Canoe Chapel cemetery where they assisted many families when arrangements needed to be made. Heath also assisted with the Big Canoe publication, Smoke Signals, behind the scenes. Heath enjoyed volunteering at the Chapel whenever a need would arise.
Heath passed away on Feb. 10, 2010 after a sudden illness in Marietta where he was staying temporarily until his wife Betty recovered from a broken leg. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Linda Laughlin, who died in 1990. In addition to his wife Betty, surviving are his daughter, Diane Laughlin, Atlanta, Ga.; brothers, William L. Laughlin, Florida, and John C. Laughlin and his wife Charlotte, Asheville, N.C.; cousins, Naomi LeBey and Martha Lassiter, Savannah, Ga., and Trella Laughlin, Arkansas; several nieces and nephews, including David E. Waldron and wife Pamela, Hartfield, Va., Elizabeth L. Ignasher and husband Tim Charlotte, N.C., and Courtenay L. Williams, Greenville, S.C.
A memorial service will be held on Feb. 20 at 2:30 p.m. at the Big Canoe Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Big Canoe Music Variata Program Fund, Big Canoe Chapel, PO Box 10455, Big Canoe, Ga. 30143. Cagle Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Grady Hollifield
Mr. Grady Leon Hollifield, age 73 of Jasper, passed Sunday, Feb. 14, 2010 at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital in Jasper.
Survivors include his wife, Irene Hollifield, Jasper; father, Lee Hollifield, Ball Ground; sons, Chuck and Douglas Hollifield, both of Jasper; daughter, Sandra Underwood, Tate; brother, David Hollifield, Jasper; and sisters, Linda Ingram, Ball Ground, and Barbara Duncan, Marble Hill. Eight grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Victoria and Christian Wright, also survive.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 17 from Cross Roads Baptist Church with the Rev. Gary Reavis officiating. Pallbearers were: Mickey and Sam Duncan, Tyler Wilson, Dylan Hollifield, Jacob McFarland and Shane Cox. Cagle Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Troy Byess
Troy Byess, age 77 of Waleska, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 3, 2010 at Northside Hospital- Cherokee.
Mr. Byess served in the U.S. Army and was a Korean War veteran with three purple hearts. He retired from maintenance at Six Flags and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was Baptist.
Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Carolyn Byess, Waleska; children, Randy (Lisa) Byess, Cedartown, Tex (Debbie) Byess, Talking Rock, Michelle (Kenneth) Barker, Canton, Todd and Scott Byess and Billie Jo Satterfield, all of Waleska; brothers, Bill (Betty) Byess, Sommerville, Al., and Tex (Wanda) Byess, Union Grove, Al.; and brother-in-law, J.W. Lee, Waleska. Twelve grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service was held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 5 from Sosebee Memorial Chapel with the Rev. David Pruitt officiating. iIntermentfollowed in Jerusalem Baptist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Bill Holland
Bill Holland, age 67 of Dawsonville, passed away on Monday, Oct. 4, 2010 at Northside Hospital-Forsyth.
Bill was a retired carpenter. He was honest, hardworking and enjoyed coon hunting. He was preceded in death by his sister, Sybil Holland.
Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Wylene Holland, Dawsonville; daughters, Pam (Rev. Danny) Baker, Canton and Jan (Jeff) Harris, Dahlonega; sister, Mae (A.W.) Head, Canton; brothers, Robert (Jean) Holland, Charles “Frog” Holland, Junior and Jerry Holland, all of Canton; and grandchildren, Hannah and Micah Baker and Sydney and Holland Harris. A host of nieces and nephews also survive.

Loren Wright
Mr. Loren Lionel Wright, age 45 of Canton, Ga., died Monday, Oct. 4, 2010, at the Atlanta Medical Center in Atlanta, Ga., following a sudden illness.
Born Nov. 10, 1964 in Cherokee County, Ga., Loren was preceded in death by his father, Roy Lee Wright.
Survivors include, his daughter, Jessica Lynne Wright, Canton; mother, Ora Grace Wright, Jasper; sister, Linda W. Brooks, Talking Rock; and brothers, Lanny Wright, Waleska, and Leslie Wright, Copperhill, Tn. Several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles also survive.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 6 from the Chapel of Roper Funeral Home in Jasper with the Revs. Franklin King and Lane Wright officiating. At his request, Mr. Wright was cremated following his service.
Damarius Bush
Mrs. Damarius Sue “Damie” Bush, age 51 of Jasper, Ga., died Monday, Sept. 27, 2010.
Mrs. Bush was born on Jan. 11, 1959 in Jacksonville, Fl. to parents, Luther, Jr. and Betty Lou Pruitt Oliver. She was a homemaker and of the Methodist faith. She was preceded in death by brother, Luther S. Oliver, III.
Survivors include her husband, Mitch Bush of the home in Jasper; sister, Elizabeth Lazar, Atlantic Beach, Fl.; sister-in-law, Sandra Eady, Blairsville; nephew, Sean Christian Oliver; great-nephews, Hunter and Ryder Sean Oliver; and best friend, Judy McQuaide, Jacksonville, Fl.
A private family service was held. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Damie Bush Memorial Fund, 23 Mill Pond Court, Jasper, Ga. 30143.
Mark Henderson
Mr. Mark Thomas Henderson, age 44 of Ball Ground, Ga., died Friday, Oct. 1, 2010, in Pickens County from injuries sustained in a automobile accident.
Born Nov. 26, 1965 in Marshalltown, Ia., Mark graduated from Georgia Institute of Technology in 1989 with a BS in Information and Computer Technology. He went on to earn his Master’s of Science in Business Administration from Georgia State University in 1998. Mark was a part of Leadership North Fulton 2009-10. He was employed as a business analyst/project manager at Abel Solutions in Alpharetta, Ga.
Survivors include, his wife of 10 years, Mary Henderson, Ball Ground; twin daughters, Stephanie and Melanie Henderson, both of Ball Ground; son, Thomas Henderson, Ball Ground; parents, Tom and Judi Henderson, Clarkston, Ga.; sister and brother-in-law, Lisa and Tim Cleary, Overland Park, Ks.; and grandmother, Genevieve Palmersheim, Urbandale, Ia. Several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins also survive.
The funeral mass was held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 9 from the All Saints Catholic Church with Monsignor R. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made in memory of Mark Thomas Henderson and be sent to Ball Ground Elementary School, 480 Old Canton Road, Ball Ground, Ga. 30107.

Clara Charles
Mrs. Clara “Mutt” Wilson Charles, age 93 of Chatsworth, passed away Thursday, Oct. 7, 2010, at her daughter’s residence in Ball Ground, Ga.
She was a member of Holly Springs Baptist Church and was preceded in death by her husband, Noler James Charles.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Charles Cook, Ball Ground; sisters, Nell Fisher and Mildred Wills, both of Chatsworth; grandchildren, Henry and Brigitte Cook, Talking Rock, Ga., Tom and Tammy Cook, Jasper, Ga., and Mary and Isaac Smith, Waleska, Ga.; and great- grandchildren, Samantha and Chandler Cook, Matthew, Megan, and Mikayla Cook, Tyson, and Bailey and Jonah Smith. Nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service was held Sunday, Oct. 10 at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of Peeples Funeral Home with the Rev. Eddie Martin officiating. Burial followed in the Swamp Creek Cemetery.
Helen Dover
Helen “Doe” McRae Dover, age 75 of Canton, died Saturday, Oct. 9, 2010 at Northside Hospital Cherokee.
She was a local artist and a member of North Canton Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Loomis McRae and Sadie Lowe Hill; and grandson, Trevor McFarland.
Survivors include daughters, Angela Burks (Roy) McFarland, Ball Ground, Teresa Burks, Canton, and Charlene Dover (Al) Kellogg, Jasper. four grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild also survives..
