Betty Stewart
Mrs. Betty Thomason Stewart, age 78 of Jasper, passed away Saturday, Dec. 19, 2009 at her home following a period of declining health.
Born Oct. 10, 1931 in Pickens County, Ga., she was the daughter of the late Boyd and Jewell Thomason. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Fred Thomason. Mr. and Mrs. Stewart owned and operated Thomason’s Store in the Hinton Community.
Survivors include her husband, Emory Stewart, Jasper; son and daughter-in-law, David and Pat Stewart, Canton; daughters and sons-in-law, Debbie and Danny Chadwick and Delores and Danny Cochran, all of Jasper; sister, Shelby Duncan, Jasper; sister-in-law, Barbara Thomason, Jasper; and grandchildren, Todd Stewart, Jasper, Deidra Chadwick, Cumming, and Danielle Cochran, Jasper.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 20, 2009 at County Line Baptist Church with the Revs. David Eubanks, Jerry Banks and Jess Posey officiating. iIntermentfollowed in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were: Scott, John, Brad and Chad Stewart, Jeff and Keith Thomason and Tim and Barry Duncan. Verlin McDowell
Mr. Verlin D. McDowell, age 67 of Canton, passed away Friday, Dec. 11, 2009 at his residence.
Mr. McDowell was a logger and he loved the outdoors. He was Baptist.
Survivors include his mother, Syble McDowell, Canton; children, Virgil (Kellie) McDowell, Weldon (Candy) McDowell and Sherry McDowell, all of Canton, and Michelle Foster, Woodstock; sisters, Virginia Blankenship, Alice Luther, Winnie Priest, Hazel Abernathy, Rosa Bruce and Mildred Woolum; and brothers, Vernon, Bennie Rickey, William and Eddie McDowell. Twelve grandchildren and six great-grandchildren also survive.

Luke Holcomb
Mr. Luke Holcomb, age 85 of Talking Rock, Ga., passed late Tuesday afternoon, Dec. 8, 2009 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Atlanta.
Survivors include his wife, Aline Holcomb, Talking Rock; son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Kerstin Holcomb, Talking Rock; daughters and sons-in-law, Sue and Bill Bryan, Marietta, and Jean and Greg Hines, Kennesaw; and sister, Laura Garrison, East Point. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service was held Friday, Dec. 11 at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with the Rev. LeRoy Kelly officiating. iIntermentfollowed in Corinth Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Bill Bryan, Greg Hines, Ralph Mathews, James Satterfield Jerry Brooks and Pheron Turner.
Lucille Thrasher
Mrs. Lucille Hauf Thrasher, age 87 of Smyrna, died Sunday Dec. 13, 2009.
Mrs. Thrasher was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church since 1968. She was a homemaker and was employed with the ATF and was a secretary for The Shrine of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Atlanta for 10 years.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Wanda and Ronnie Dyer, Jasper. Ga.; grandson, Christian Bilich, Hahnville La.; great-grandchildren, Alexandria and Jesse Bilich, Hahnville, La.; and nephews, Warren Lindner, Leesburg, Fl. and Wesley Lindner, Cedar Lake, In.
The funeral service was held at 1 p.m. Tuesday from the Chapel of Carmichael Funeral Home in Smyrna with Father Jim Kuczynski officiating. Entombment followed the Mausoleum at Cheatham Hill Memorial Park cemetery in Marietta. Pamela Dougherty

Mary Pamela Dougherty (Pam) of Sarasota, Fl., died Dec. 4, 2009.
Pam is survived by her son, Christopher Leland Theetge (Cemantha), Sarasota; daughters, Rachael Benson, Racine, Wi., and Mariah Cohen (Tom), Bradenton, Fl.; step-son, David Theetge, Atlanta, Ga.; stepdaughter, Janis Horn, Miami, Fl.; brother, John Christopher Dougherty III (Claudia), Sarasota; and sister, Penny Dougherty Stith, Sarasota.
Pam is also survived by her seven grandchildren, Madi Bear, Tanner Bear and Drake Cohen, all of Bradenton, Fl., Zoe and Isabelle Benson, Racine, Wi., and Iris and Vivian Theetge, Sarasota, Fl.; and her niece and nephews, Sharkey Goodell (Mary and daughter Kinsey) and Brendan Dougherty, all of Sarasota, and Caitlan Dougherty, North Port, Fl.
Pam won many battles with breast cancer but lost the war. She will be greatly missed by her family and many friends.

Michael Findley
Mr. Michael Lynn Findley, age 52 of Fairmount, Ga., departed this life Tuesday morning, Dec. 15, 2009 at the Floyd Medical Center in Rome, Ga. surrounded by his loving family.
Michael was born June 11, 1957 in Gordon County, Ga. He was preceded in death by his father, Dorace Findley; and his father-in-law, Marvin Young. Michael was a 1975 graduate of Fairmount High School and proudly served his country in the US Marines. He was a member of the Pleasant Grove (Ryo) Baptist Church.
He is survived by his loving wife of 29 years, Jane Young Findley of the residence; daughters, Jessica and Kristen Findley, both of Fairmount; son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Cassandra Findley; granddaughter, Arial Findley; grandson on the way in April 2010, all of Calhoun; mother, Rachael Findley; sister and brother-in-law, Alisa and Bobby Goble, all of Fairmount; mother-in-law, Nancy Young, Ludville; and aunts and uncles, June Godfrey, Fairmount, J.B. Mahan, Nashville, Tn., and Anna and Roy Rogers, Woodstock. Several nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends also survive.
A service to celebrate the life of Michael was held Friday, Dec. 18 from Pleasant Grove Baptist Church at 2 p.m. with the Revs. Harold Owens and Lamar Beason officiating. He was laid to rest in the church cemetery with Steve Black, Bobby Goble, Ty Sellers, Pete Verhine, Wayne Young, Jerry House, Jackie Brannon and Dwight King serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were Brian Grogan and Willie Alvarez. Fairmount Chapel of Ponders Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Grady Gaddis
Mr. Grady Lee Joe Gaddis, age 43 of Ellijay, passed away at his residence Wednesday, Dec. 16, 2009.
Survivors include his son, Chris Gaddis. Lumpkin County; daughter, Maggie Sue Gaddis, Ball Ground; brother, Tony Gaddis, Canton; and sisters, Susan Gaddis and Samantha Pinson, both of Ellijay. A memoral service will be announced at a later date. Cagle Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.
Brenda Henderson
Mrs. Brenda Henderson, age 62 of Jasper, passed away Wednesday, May 19, 2010 at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital.
Survivors include her daughter, Misty Hanson, Jasper; son and daughter-in-law, Jeremy and Joanne Henderson, Jasper; mother, Annie Lou Henderson, Jasper; grandchildren, Jacob and Chaz Hanson and Laura Henderson, all of Jasper, and David and Kelly Hunter, Ellijay; great-grandchildren, Evan and Skyler Hunter; brothers and sister-in-law, Lanny and Shirley Henderson and Terry Henderson; sisters and brothers-in-law, Ruth Ann and Charles Gay, Ellijay, Deborah and Donnie Collis, Talking Rock, Sandra Dunn and Sharon Henderson, both of Jasper, and Lynn and Troy Creech, Ball Ground, Twenty-two nieces and nephews and 16 great-nieces and nephews also survive.

Patsy Howard
Mrs. Patsy Jane Howard, age 68 of Jasper, Ga., died Thursday, May 20, 2010 at Floyd Medical Center in Rome, Ga..
Born March 22, 1942 in Jasper, she was the daughter of the late Henry Alec and Francis Irene Cloninger Ray. Mrs. Howard was a Benefit Coordinator for North Georgia Community Action Agency. Survivors include her husband, George Howard, Jasper; step-daughter and son-in-law, Diane and Steve Herrington, Jasper; brothers, Larry and Ronnie Ray, both of Jasper; grandchildren, Jesse Richards and Danielle Walbrochl; great-grandchildren, Donovan and Haley Milsaps; nieces, LaSandra Cooley, Talking Rock, Rhonda Pope and Stephanie Ray, both of Jasper, and Amanda Prather, Canton; and nephew, Jason Ray, Holly Springs. Several great-nieces and nephews also survive.

Joyce Turner
Mrs. Joyce Turner, age 75 of Tate, passed away Thursday, May 20, 2010 at Canton Nursing Center.
Survivors include sisters and brothers-in-law, Doris and Emory Turner and Judy and James Bryan, all of Jasper; and sisters-in-law, Kathryn and Mary Helen Turner, both of Jasper, and Catherine Adams, Cherokee County. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Mary Parker
Mrs. Mary Eula Parker, age 79 of Jasper, passed away Thursday, May 20, 2010 at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital.
Survivors include her son, Joseph C. Parker Jasper; daughter and son-in-law, Freida and Ryan Keeter, Fairmount; brothers, Walter, Preston, Vernon, Roy Dean and Troy Carver, all of Jasper; sister, Eva Blackwell, Jasper; and grandchild, Hannah Keeter.

Richard Griffis
Mr. Richard Griffis, age 65, beloved husband of Norma Griffis, of Graniteville, S.C., entered into rest on Saturday, May 22, 2010 at Lake Crossing Health Care.
Mr. Griffis was a native of Screven County, Ga., having made Graniteville his home for the past 16 years. He was a US Army Veteran having served in Vietnam. Mr. Griffis was a member of Langley United Methodist Church and was a mechanical engineer with Martin Marietta.
Additional survivors include his son, Jake Griffis (Vickie), Evans, Ga.; daughter, Samantha Mills (Evan), Athens, Ga.; mother, Rutha W. Griffis, Blackshear, Ga.; brothers, Melvin Griffis, Milledgeville, Ga., and Sidney Griffis, Blackshear, Ga.; sister, Joyce Haas, Brunswick, Ga; and grandchildren, Cooper and Marlea Griffis.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 29, in the Rowland Funeral Home Chapel with Jake Griffis and Rev. Wade Everett officiating. Rickie Fountain
Mr. Rickie Eugene Fountain, age 55 of Ellijay, formerly of Jasper, Ga., died Sunday, May 16, 2010.
Mr. Fountain was born on May 26, 1954 in Pickens County. He is the son of the late Howard and Leona Duckett Fountain. He worked in the construction industry and attended Harvest Missionary Church.
Survivors include his aunt, Maxine Anderson, Ellijay; cousin, and Freddi Nicholson, Ellijay. Several other cousins, nieces and nephews also survive
A memorial service was held Friday, May 21 at 4 p.m. from the Chapel of Bernhardt Funeral Home with the Rev. Glen Arnold officiating. Music was by Gina Stuart.
Broward Garrison
Mr. L.B. Broward Garrison, age 93 of Jasper and Toccoa, Ga., passed at Stephens County Hospital, Toccoa, early Friday morning, May 14, 2010.
Mr. Garrison was an Army veteran of WW II, a 50-year Master Mason, a 50-year Lions Melvin Jones Fellow and a District 18A Hall of Fame member of the Jasper Lions Club. He had been a member of Jasper United Methodist Church for over 50 years. The Cochran-Garrison Building was named in his honor.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Garrison; sons and daughters-in-law, Bob and Linda Garrison, Orlando. Fl., and Mike and Donna Garrison, Jasper; and grandchildren, Kristin Kelting, DeBary, Fl., and Kelly Finogle, Virginia Beach, Va. Four great-grandchildren also survive. Mr. Garrison was preceded in death by his wife, Polly Garrison.
The funeral service was held Monday, May 17 at 2 p.m. from Jasper United Methodist Church with the Revs. Chip Wilson and Hoyt Jenkins officiating. iIntermentfollowed in Sunrise Memorial Gardens with local Chapter #47 DAV in charge of military graveside services. Laura Schell
Ms. Laura Ashley Schell, age 24 of Whitestone Road, Talking Rock, passed away Monday July 12, 2010.
She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Maloy, Talking Rock; father and step-mother, Russell and Kelly Schell, Talking Rock; mother, Barbara Schell, Hortense, Ga.; grandmothers, Ann Elizabeth Sutton and Juanita Elrod, both of Yellue, Fl.; grandfather, Alfred Livingston Schell, Marietta; brothers, Brian Schell, Woodstock, and John Alfred Schell, Talking Rock; sister, Mary Ann Howell, Hicox, Ga., and step-parent, Clarence Elrod, Yellue, Fl. Several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
