Larry Lamar Bobo of Canton died Monday April 13, 2009. He was born July 22, 1947 in Canton and was preceded in death by his parents, Lamar & Marjorie Tippens Bobo.Larry was survived by his wife Marcia Jarvis Bobo of the home. A son Scott Bobo of Canton, Daughter and son-in-law, Julie and Fred Rentz of Conyers, Grandson Logan Thomas Bobo, Jasper and Special granddaughters, Shelby & Taylor Barron, of Jasper. Brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Robert Owen of Canton, Henry & June Turner, Ball Ground, Gary & Pat Jarvis of Bowman, Dwight & Carol Jarvis of Jonesboro, and Elsie & James Ward, Augusta, WV. Special pets, Connor and McClain. Larry was retired from the Southern Company, where he was nationally recognized for his computer expertise, and was known for writing computer software, computer manuals, and teaching seminars throughout the nation. He was a long-time member of Mount Zion Baptist Church where he lead singing for many years and also served as the audio technician. He sang with the Gospel Land Singers and the Providence Quartet. Larry was an active member of the YMCA, where he served as a Member of the Board of Directors and was named the YMCA volunteer of the year. CARLA MITCHELL ROBERTS

Carla Mitchell Roberts died suddenly on April 8, 2009, from abdominal cancer at Northside Hospital – Cherokee, Canton GA. She was born in Poplarville, MS in 1942, the daughter of E.J. and Joyce Mitchell, both deceased. She was survived by her husband of 46 years, Gaylen Roberts; her two sons, Richard and wife Bonnie, and Guy and wife Amanda; five grandchildren Ryan, Michelle, Thomas, Nicholas and Jessica.; and her sister Pam Ernest and husband Joe; her brother-in-law Bill and wife Marilyn; and five nieces. Carla graduated from Pearl River Junior College and the University of Mississippi in 1963, along with her husband. She was a devoted supporter of her husband’s career as a United States Air Force officer and pilot, moving 21 times over a 24-year span, including two overseas tours. While raising two young boys, she also found time to serve as President of the Officers Wives Club on several occasions, do extensive volunteer activities, and work as an office manager and executive assistant. In Washington, D.C., she served three years as a tour guide and assistant librarian at Mt. Vernon, the home of George Washington. In 1986, Gaylen retired from the Air Force and they moved to Norcross, GA. There she continued to work in business administrative positions then retired full-time to dedicate herself to volunteer work. She spent many hours at the Day Shelter for Women in downtown Atlanta. She was a member of the initial class of trainees to serve as a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) in Gwinnett County, serving the needs of children from broken families. After serving as a CASA for several years, she organized a fund-raising program and Board of Directors to increase private funding assistance. In addition, she delivered monthly Meals-on-Wheels. After moving to Canton, she continued to participate in MOW and persuaded her Laurel Canyon development to take full responsibility for an entire route. She also became a regular volunteer at Angel House in Waleska and encouraged the Laurel Canyon community to be a primary sponsor. She was a member of the Atlanta Lawn Tennis Association and USTA for 23 years, winning several City Championships and one State Championship. She ran in 10 Peachtree Road Races in her 50s then ran with her son, granddaughter and grandson at age 66. She wrote four feature articles published in the AJC and was recognized by the “In The Kitchen…” column for her gastronomical achievements. At Seasons of Laurel Canyon she is a most-loved neighbor, friend, organizer, bridge player, tennis captain, welcomer, book club-er, block captain and volunteer. But above all she was a beloved wife, and the best mother, grandmother, and sister ever – as attested to by the deep love and adoration all of her family and friends feel for her. A memorial service will be conducted by the Reverend Wiley Stephens at Dunwoody United Methodist Church on April 14 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Carla Roberts Memorial Scholarship Fund at Reinhardt College, Waleska, GA, 30183. These scholarships will be used to encourage Angel House residents to achieve a college education.

CLEORA ROBERTS SECHREST

Mrs. Cleora Roberts Sechrest, age 99 of Lexington, NC, Cherry Grove Beach, SC and Rocky Mount, NC died Wednesday March 25, 2009 in Canton, GA. She was born November 28, 1909 in Lancaster South Carolina the youngest of the nine children of Samuel B. And Ellen Montgomery Roberts and was preceded in death by brothers, Lewis and Herman, Sisters Cora, Vertie, Mary, Norma, Lillian and Nettie.

Mrs. Sechrest was married March 11, 1933 to Ray F. Sechrest who died November 26, 1964.

They had two children, Nancy S. (Mrs. Thomas L.) Young of North Myrtle Beach SC, and Raye S. Snell of Canton, GA. Both of whom survive. Mrs. Sechrest is also survived by six grandchildren and their spouses, George F. & Dena G. Young of Rock Mount, NC, Elizabeth Y. Blackmon of Jacksonville, FL, David E and Sonya D. Young of Wrightsville Beach NC, Lee M. And Susan W. Young of Charolette, NC. DJ Snell of Winter Park Fl. And Anbdrea S. and Jason Moyer of Frisco, TX ; twleve great grandchildren, one great great grandchild and nieces and nephews. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lancaster, SC and Winthrop College, taught for 27 years in the public schools of South Carolina, and following retirement operated private kindergarten schools in in Lexington, NC and Cherry Grove Beach, SC.

She was amember and an officer of the garden clubs of Lexington, NC and Ocean Drive, SC was active in the American Legion Auxiliary, and traveled extensively in later life.

Funeral services will be conducted at Davidson Funeral Home in Lexington, NC on Saturday March 28, 2009 to be followed by interment in Lexington City Cemetery. The family request flowers be omitted.

ARNOLD NATHAN KING

Arnold Nathan King, age 82, of Canton, GA. passed away Sunday, March 22, 2009 after a sudden illness. Arnold is survived by his wife of 57 years, Doris D. King, the father of 3 children, the grandfather of 7 children, and the great-grandfather of one, Arnold was born on May 26, 1926 in Franklin Co., GA. He graduated from the University of GA in 1951. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II who served with the Seventh Infantry Division on Okinawa and in Korea. He received numerous ribbons for his service. Arnold retired from John Morrell and Co. in sales and from management at Crabapple Sausage Co. He was an active member of Canton First United Methodist Church. He was a Mason (Hickory Flat Lodge), with Scottish Rite and Shrine degrees levels. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 45 (Canton, GA). Arnold enjoyed gardening and working in his beautiful yard. He remained actively involved in the lives of his children and grandchildren. Arnold King, who was affectionately known as “Pops“, is survived by his wife, Doris, his daughter Susan Brannon and her husband Brent of Cumming, GA, his son Nathan King and his wife Alice of Athens, GA and his son Mark King and his wife Sandy of Conyers, GA. He is survived by 7 grandchildren, Chris and Kyle Brannon, Nate, (wife Tabiatha). Kristy and Kimsey King and Ryan and Holly King and 1 great-grandson Thompson Nathan King. He will also be missed by many other family members and good friends. Funeral Services will be held March 24, 2009 at 2:00 pm at Canton First United Methodist Church with Dr. C.R. Hill and Rev.
