She is survived by Ralph W. & Ruth Googe (son & daughter-in-law) of Rome, James L. & Kim Googe (son & daughter-in-law) of Cedar Bluff, AL, Ronald L. & Wauleen Googe (son & daughter-in-law) of Cleveland, TN, Donald W. & Eugenia Googe (son & daughter-in-law) of Rome, Gregory J. & Robyn Padgett (son & daughter-in-law) of Acworth, and Mary L. & Bobby Holland (daughter & son-in-law) of Cedartown, Louise Atkinson (sister) of West Green.

Daniel Richard Nicastro, 65, passed away Thursday, February 25, 2010 at Northside Hospital Cherokee in Canton, Georgia. Mr. Nicastro lived in Canton and was previously from Connecticut.He is survived by Brian Nicastro (son), Mellisa England (daughter), Debra Nicastro (daughter), and Diane Irving (sister) of Canton. Five grandchildren also survive.

Michael James Gianfala, 66 passed away Friday, February 26, 2010 at Embracing Hospice in Cumming, Georgia. Mr. Gianfala lived in Canton.He is survived by Jamie & Donna Gianfala (son and daughter-in-law) of Canton, and Mike & Amy Gianfala (son and daughter-in-law) of Canton, Kate & Matt Cates (daughter and son-in-law) of Canton. Mr. Frank E. Hardie, Sr., age 88, died on Thursday February 25, 2010 in Canton, Georgia. Survivors are daughters Barbara Hale, Bonnie Shirley, son Frank, Jr., seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Mr. Hardie served with distinction in WWII and was retired from the U.S. Army and Department of Defense.

MARY SCHEID
Mary Emert Scheid of Salisbury, North Carolina, and former Lock Haven resident, passed away at the age of 89 on February 19, 2010. Born in Lock Haven in 1921 to Francis Calhoun Emert and Raymond Emert, she lived in Lock Haven until 1964. Mary attended the Normal School as a child and graduated from Lock Haven High School in 1939. She joined Piper Aircraft and participated in the war effort when a large number of young women joined the work force. She met Charles F. Scheid of Jersey Shore at Piper and they married
in 1945 in Gettysburg, PA “… because that is how far our gas rations would take us.” They had five children in Lock haven: Loretta, Charles, Geoffrey, Kevin and Allen. Mary and Charles left Lock Haven for new opportunities in 1964 to live in New Jersey where Charles worked for the Singer Company in New York City. Later, in 1971, the family moved to Barrington, Illinois where Mary worked for some time as a real estate agent; and was once the Chapter President of the Lake Zurich Hospital Auxiliary. Mary and Charles retired in 1987 and moved to Salisbury, North Carolina where they enjoyed the pleasant weather, the welcoming community, their cats and holidays with their children and four grand children. Mary was an avid antique collector, gardener, and traveler; and she loved decorating the family home.
Mary Scheid has been living with her daughter and son-in-law Lori and Chuck Pesta of Woodstock for 9 months. She is survived by her husband Charles Scheid Jr. and her children: Lori Pesta, Chuck Scheid III, Geoffrey, Kevin and Allen; grand children, Michelle, Charles IV, Geoffrey, James and step grandson, Josh; son-in-law, Chuck Pesta, and daughters-in-law Susan and Kristy.

Ann Wimbish Roberts, age 66, died Sunday, November 29, 2009, at her residence in Canton. Ann was valedictorian at Cherokee High School and graduated with honors from the University of Georgia. She taught math at Cherokee High for more than 30 years and was head of the Math Department when she retired in 2001 to care for her Mother. She was a member of the Canton First United Methodist Church. Hazel Wyatt Hasty of Canton passed away peacefully at her home on October 30, 2009, after an extended illness. She was preceded in death by the late William G. Hasty, Sr., former Representative and Senator from the area and parents Joseph and Laura Jane Hester Wyatt and beloved sister Jewell Wyatt Bannister. Mrs. Hasty retired from the Cherokee County School System after teaching thirty-five years in Ball Ground, Hickory Flat and Canton elementary schools. She loved being with her family especially the grandchildren and more recently the great-grandchildren. As a member of the First Baptist Church of Canton she enjoyed being with members of the Joy Sunday School Class, her Prayer Circle, and the Laurel Garden Club. She was a faithful believer in the Baptist Mission Union and while active always made prayer for missionaries a special part of her day. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, teacher and sister to all who loved her. She also enjoyed cooking for the family and was known for her “banana pudding.” After retirement, she and her husband enjoyed traveling and especially hosting tours of teachers to Europe. She and Mr. Hasty were members of the Friendship Force, and their travels introduced them to many new countries, cultures and friends. She is survived by her son and daughters: William “Billy” and Linda Hasty of Ball Ground and children Will and Anna Hasty, Eryn and Cole of Canton; Lauren Hasty of Paris, France; and Nick Hasty of New York, NY; Ned and Joanie Castleberry and her children David and Jory Cannon, Jr., Lane and Del of Canton; Deanna and John Adkins of Marietta; and Dixie and Bob Kinard of Dalton, and their children Mac and Kim Schuessler, Emme, Swann and Mac III of Atlanta; Jon and Christy Davenport and William of Atlanta; and Stephen and Amy Cole, Logan and Robert of Dalton. Klyde Hanson Stephens, age 85, of Waleska Georgia, passed away on Sunday, October 25, 2009. Klyde was the son of the late Benjamin Thomas Stephens and Hazel West Stephens (of Fort Smith, Arkansas). Klyde was friendly, quick-witted, and compassionate, and he will be lovingly remembered by family and friends. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Patrica Frickie Stephens; two siblings, Kenneth Stephens of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Marian Sengal of Alexandria, Virginia; three children, Michael Frickie Stephens of Jackson, Wyoming, Karen West Stephens of Atlanta Georgia, and Benjamin Read Stephens of Clemson, South Carolina; five grandchildren, Joshua, Jessica, Jordan, Jennifer, and Justin Stephens; and numerous nieces and nephews. Major (Ret) Harold Boyette Edge Jr., 71 of Pell City, AL died Monday, October 19, 2009 at his home. He was born April 10, 1938 in Fayetteville, NC. He is preceded in death by his parents Harold Boyette, Sr. and Thelma Edge, brother Ronald Edge and sister Patricia Chapman. He is survived by his wife of 49 years Ruth Ann Edge of Pell City, AL, daughter and son-in-law, Renée & John Walsh of Marietta, GA; brother and sister-in-law, Chester & Roberta Edge of Eatonton, GA; brother and sister-in-law, Jerry & Elizabeth Edge of Monroe, NC; granddaughters Savannah Crandall, Shelby Crandall and Jennifer Browne (Patrick). He retired from the United States Army after 26 years of service, having attained the rank of Major. He was a highly decorated solider who served two tours in Vietnam. He is the recipient of the numerous commendations and medals including the Silver Star, Bronze Star with four Oak Leaf Clusters and the Purple Heart. NELSON SHULL
Mr. Nelson Shull age 92 of Waleska, GA died at his residence on Friday October 16, 2009. The family will receive friends Monday from 3 PM - 4 Pm at Darby Huey Funeral Home. Survivors are Daughters, Susan Robinson, Waleska, GA, Terri Wilcoxon, Roswell, GA and Cindy Rossi, Huntington Beach, CA 4 Grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren also survive. Mr. Shull was retired from Boeing Aircraft as a Electrical Design Engineer, A Veteran of World War II where he served as a 2nd LT in the Army Air Corps. He was a Member of Sunflower Masonic Lodge, Wichita KS, a Member of the Midina Shrine Temple where he was Past Commander of the Legion of Honor.
