Miss Ashley Shari Pughsley, age 19 of Jasper, Ga., died Monday, Nov. 8, 2010 at her residence following a period of declining health.
Born Nov. 15, 1990, Miss Pughsley was originally born in Bulloch County.
Survivors include her parents, Jim and Jan Stone, Jasper; brothers and sisters, Danielle, Tyler and Alex Stone, Tina Watkins, Denise Green and Jamie Stevens, all of Jasper; special friends, Aunt Judy, Angel Wittman, Debbie Cagle, Jennifer Roper, Debbie White, Denny Watkins, Piedmont Physicians (Dr. Aicher and Dr. Nance Karr) and Scottish Rite and staff. Several aunts and uncles also survive.

Kevin Parker
Mr. Kevin Parker, age 42 of Big Canoe, Ga., passed late Tuesday afternoon, Nov. 23, 2010 at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta as a result of an auto accident earlier that day in Pickens County near his home.
Survivors include his parents, David and Mary Anne Parker, Big Canoe; brother, Kenneth Parker, Jasper; and sister, Cynthia Scott. Powhatan, Va. Nieces and nephews also survive.
A memorial service was held Sunday, Nov. 28 from the Chapel of Big Canoe with the Rev. Lamar Helms and Dr. Dan Whitaker officiating. John Adams
Mr. John Franklin “Santa Jack” Adams, age 69 of Jasper, Ga., died Friday, Nov. 19, 2010 at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital following a period of declining health.
Born Jan. 23, 1941, in Quincy, Ma., he was the son of the late John Franklin Adams, Jr. and Vera Wagner Adams. Mr. Adams was preceded in death by his daughter, Ms. Shelley Adams. He was well known throughout the area as “Santa Jack” and he loved bringing joy to those around him. As a long-time member of Our Lady of the Mountains Catholic Church, Jack was very active in many activities. A few of his contributions to the church included singing in the choir, being the church photographer and performing many maintenance tasks. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Joanne Adams, Jasper; daughter, Heidi Amanda Adams Young, Orlando, Fl.; sisters, Janet Adams Clemons, New Hampshire, and Joan Adams Woods, California; and granddaughter, Abigail Young, Orlando. Several nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.
The funeral Mass was held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Nov. 23, from Our Lady of the Mountains Catholic Church in Jasper with Father Charles Byrd and Father Frank Richards officiating. iIntermentfollowed at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Georgia National cemetery with military honors. Arch Cantrell, Jr.
Mr. Arch “Tunie” Cantrell, Jr., age 80 of Dawsonville, Ga., died Friday, Nov. 26 at the Florida Hospital Memorial Medical Center in Daytona Beach following a sudden illness.
Born Jan. 21, 1930 in Dawson County, he was the son of the late Arch, Sr. and Lois Seay Cantrell. Mr. Cantrell worked as a general carpenter with Harben Construction and was a member of the Mt. Vernon Baptist Church in Dawson.
Survivors include his wife, Gaye Cantrell, Dawsonville; daughters and sons-in-law, Gail and Gary Harben, Dawsonville, and Tammy and Allen Walker, Jasper; sons and daughters-in-law, Bobby and Joyce Cantrell and Michael and Shelley Cantrell, all of Jasper; and brother, Jimmy Cantrell, Dawsonville. Seven grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 30 from Mt. Hiram Honea
Colonel Hiram James Honea passed away peacefully on Nov. 28, 2010 at the age of 91.
Born in Amicalola District, Dawson Co., Ga., son of the Rev. and Mrs. Joel A. Honea of Jasper, Ga., Col. Honea received his Bachelor’s degree from Georgia State College. He received his Master’s degree in Economics from Emory University in Atlanta and pursued a Doctorate degree in Economics at New York Univ. in New York City. After serving as Associate Professor of Economics at Georgia State Univ., he became Research Economist at the Federal Reserve Bank, Atlanta, and rose to the leadership position of vice president of the Federal Reserve Bank, Birmingham Branch. He proudly served his country in the Army Air Force in World War II and in his GA Air National Guard Unit which was called to serve during the Korean Conflict.
Col. Honea is survived by his wife of 67 years, Vadie F. Honea; daughters, Nancy Blanchard Honea, Atlanta, Ga., Dr. Patricia Honea-Fleming (Dr. Richard Borden) and Dr. Kathryn Honea (Tom Jung), Birmingham, Al. He leaves six grandchildren, Lisa Cummings (Wade) and Kristen Watanabe (Kaz), all of Atlanta, Kimberly Skelton (Patrick), Keenan Tauxe and Elana Golding, all of Birmingham, Kaelin Tauxe, Nashville; and six great-grandchildren, Tyler and Lauren, Bailey and Vadie and Gus and Ruby.
The funeral service was held Dec. 1 at 1 p.m. from Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, Al. with a graveside service for the family following. Col. Honea was dearly loved and will be remembered by many for his contributions to the City of Birmingham and the State of Alabama.
Avery Farist
Mr. Avery Brown Farist, age 87, of the Yukon Community, Ellijay, Ga., passed from this life on Monday, Nov. 22, 2010 from the St. Joseph Hospital in Atlanta, Ga.
He was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church, born Feb. 19, 1923 to his late parents, Joe Brown and Jennie Avery Evans Farist in Ellijay. He was a farmer at heart with a peach orchard, a labor man and a skilled welder. He was owner and operator of Farist Refrigeration, working with air conditioning, refrigeration and heating. Mr. Farist was a veteran and served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lee Fleming Farist; and son, Jimmy C. Farist.
Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Johnnie Fay and Danny Griffin, Pace, Fl., and Rosalee and Tony Moss, Jasper, Ga.; daughter-in-law, JoEllen Farist, Acworth, Ga.; grandchildren, Michael Joe Griffin, Jennifer Clayton, Steven Moss, Amanda Silvers and Chris Moss; great-grandchildren, Austin Clayton and Daniella and Owen Thomas Moss; sister, Clora Farist Mulkey, Ellijay; brother, Cecil Farist, Marietta, Ga.; and special friends, Scott and Tammy Reed, Jasper, and Lynn Champion, Ellijay.

Guy Robinson
Mr. Guy J. Robinson, age 64, died Nov. 10, 2010.
He was the son of the late Guy and Buena Robinson. He was the beloved father of Barbara, grandfather of Shawn and brother of Barbara (Richard) Reid, Joyce (David) Wengrow, Billie Grace (George Tater) Mercier, Ann (Gary) Hegedus and Shirley (Gil) Stephison. Several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins also survive.
The funeral service was held on Monday, Nov. 15 at 11 a.m. from R.G. & G.R. Harris Funeral Home in Livonia, Mi. Memorial may be directed to the DAV or to Johnny Barnes at Hinton Community Cemetery.
Allen Hardin
Mr. Allen Hardin, age 71 of Jasper, Ga., passed away Friday, Dec. 3, 2010 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Since 1987, Allen and Kathy have lived in North Georgia. Allen had a successful career in many dimensions of the financial software industry. His personal interests included golf, flying, classic cars and motorcycle riding. Kathy and Allen have traveled the world but have found no greater joy than spending time with family and friends at their homestead, “Heart’s Content Farm.”
He is survived by his wife, Kathy Hardin, Jasper; daughters and sons-in-law, Alison and Stacey Nutt, Phoenix, Az. and Andrea and Ted Spinardi, Fairfield, Ca.; and grandchildren, Sullivan, Landon and Ellie Nutt, all of Phoenix, Az., Luke and Joshua Spinardi, both of Fairfield, Ca.
The funeral service was held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 6 from the Chapel of Roper Funeral Home with Pastor Ted Spinardi officiating. Rev. Lowell Grant
The Rev. Lowell Boyd Grant, age 76 of Talking Rock, Ga., passed from this life on Thursday, Dec. 2, 2010 at Piedmont Hospital.
Rev. Grant, was a Baptist minister and member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church. He was born Dec. 12th, 1933 to his late parents, Arthur Weldon and Maude Hester Grant in Franklin, N.C. He was a graduate of Ellijay High School, serving his country honorably in the U.S. Army. Rev. Grant was a carpenter in the construction industry. He was preceded in death by a son, Lloyd Stanley Grant; sisters, Betty Grant Davis, Joan Grant Tucker and Maxine Grant Davis; and brother, Carl Grant, Sr.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Maureen Woody Grant, Ellijay; daughters and sons-in-law, Teresa and James Defoor, Ellijay, Pat and Denny Jarrett, Jasper, and Beverly and Gene James, Ellijay; grandchildren, Melissa Stover, Chad Jarrett, Malory and David Baughman, Miranda James, Cody and Shane Grant and Cassie Defoor; great-grandchildren, Emily and David Stover and Harley and Joseph Baughman; sisters, Opal Key, Newnan, and Joyce Young, Ellijay; and brother, Don Grant of Jonesboro.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 5 from Mt. Zion Baptist Church with the Revs. Gerald Siniard, Scott Chastain and Dennis Jones officiating. Music and song was by Janice Holt, Sara Cantrell, Rhonda and Herman Davis. Graveside military services followed in the Mt. Zion Baptist Church cemetery with military rites performed by the North Georgia Honor Guard. Pallbearers were: Ted Estes, Alan Cain, Grant Wade, Joey Phillips, Chris Chastain, Jeremy and Jamie Smith, Tim Chadwick, Casey Richards and Carroll Holbrook. Larry Stokes
Mr. Larry Stokes, age 58 of Jasper, passed away Friday, Dec. 3, 2010 at Wellstar Community Hospice in Austell.
Survivors include his brothers and sisters-in-law, Odies and Dimple Stokes, Jasper, Glen Stokes, Flint, Mi., and David and Rita Stokes, Jasper; and sister and brother-in-law, Estelle and Daniel Fitts, Jasper. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 5 from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with the Revs. Troy Davis and Harold Cantrell officiating. iIntermentfollowed in Mount Pisgah Baptist Church cemetery in Gilmer County. Pallbearers were: Tracy Ray, Kenneth, Steve and Doug Stokes, Bill Barrett and Lanier Moss. Faron Young
Mr. Faron Young, age 56 of Jasper, passed away Saturday, Dec. 4, 2010 at Embracing Hospice in Cumming.
Survivors include his daughters and sons-in-law, Tabitha and Barry Weaver, Ellijay, Holly and Scott McDaniel and Jennifer Tegan, all of Jasper; brother, Virgil Young, Jasper; sisters and brothers-in-law, Shirley and G.W. Cantrell, Fairmount, Vivan and Ricky Crump, Ellijay, and Carolyn and Bart Padgett, Jasper; and grandchildren, Alex and Jeremy Gerbert, Natalie Weaver and Tori McDaniel. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Rev. Charles Walker
Rev. Charles O. Walker, age 81 of Jasper Ga., passed away Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2010 at his residence.
Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Mary Jewell Walker, Jasper; brother and sister-in-law, Willis and Margaret Walker, Fayetteville; grandchildren, Mary Weed, Elizabeth Hammerlee, Laura Burnette and John and Anna Walker; and great-grandchild, Zoe Hammerlee. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Rev. Walker was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Ann Walker; and son, Paul Walker.
At the request of Rev. Walker, his remains were donated to Emory University Medical School. A memorial service was held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 5 at Jasper First Baptist Church with Dr. Jimmy Lewis and David Stuart officiating. Silas Collins
Mr. Silas Collins, age 93 of Jasper, a loving father, devoted husband, member of Philadelphia Baptist Church and member of Pickens Star Lodge #220, passed away Dec. 1, 2010 at his residence.
Survivors include his sons, Rocky Collins, Jasper, Key Phillips, Acworth, and David Phillips, Pine Mountain; daughter, Crystal Sisk, Fayetteville, N.C.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 3 from Philadelphia Baptist Church with the Rev. Judy Williams
Judy “Denise” Williams, age 57 of Canton, died on Friday, Dec. 3, 2010, at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital.
She was a facility manager at AT&T; and a member of Bethesda Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Roger Williams, Canton; sons, Matt (Lori) Williams and Mark (Michelle) Williams, all of Canton; brother, Kenny (Barbara) Goss, Woodstock; sisters, Brenda Reece, Holly Springs, and Diane Mitchell, Jasper; and grandchildren, Logan, Madelyn, Chandler, Emma, and Lyla Williams; several nieces and nephews.

Beverlee Barber
Beverlee Joan Barber, age 76 of Big Canoe, Ga., passed away peacefully at home Saturday, Dec. 4, 2010.
Beverlee was born in Long Beach, Ca. and raised in Tacoma, Wa. where she met and married
her high school sweetheart, William (Bud) Barber. After living in Marietta, Ga., North Ridgeville, Oh., Columbia, Md., Huntington, Ct. and Roswell, Ga., they retired to Big Canoe.
Beverlee was a talented singer, loved to play golf and Mahjong, make crafts, decorate and sew. She was a devoted homemaker to her family. Beverlee was preceded in death by her father, Freidrich Haman.
She is survived by her loving husband of 58 years; mother, Ruth Haman, Lakewood, Co.; sister, Georgia Harrison, Lakewood, Co.; daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Bill Allgood, Marietta, Ga.; son, Blaire Barber, Big Canoe; daughter and son-in-law, Georgia and Mike Anders, Marietta, Ga.; and son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Dawn Barber, Ellicott City, Md.; Ten grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and their beloved dachshund, Frieda, also survive.
The family will hold a private celebration of her life. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Beverlee’s memory to Georgia Mountain Hospice, 70 Caring Way, Jasper, Ga. 30143. Heritage Funeral Home and Crematory of Fort Oglethorpe was in charge of arrangements.
