Robert Ray Brown
Robert R. Brown, 86, of Homerville, passed away Monday January 24, 2005 at his residence after a lengthy illness.
He was born in Sanford, Fla. where he grew up and had lived in Homerville for over 50 years. He served his country in the Air Force during World War II spent 29 months in the China, Burma India area. He was employed with the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad for 40 years as a freight agent retiring in 1978. He served on the Clinch County Draft Board for 25 years receiving a certificate of appreciation from the president. He also served on the Homerville City Council for 15 years. A Mason for over 50 years, member of Cassia Lodge #224, a member of the Eastern Star Arcme Chapter #101 a past patron of Magnolia Chapter #514 eight times. An active member of the Homerville United Methodist Church, teaching Sunday School for over 50 years, holding all other offices including being the district lay leader.
Survivors include his wife, Maxie W. Brown of Homerville; daughter and son-in-law, June and Kenton McLaine of Homerville; son and daughter-in-law Robert E. and Wanda Brown of Homerville; granddaughter, Jennifer M. and Brad Green of Atlanta; step-granddaughter, Nicole P. Hendricks of Homerville; step-great-grandson, Laneston Hendricks of Homerville; step-great-granddaughter, Carson Hendricks of Homerville; brother, David Brown of Sanford, Fla.; a number of nieces and nephews
A family visitation only was held.
A memorial funeral service was held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, January 26, 2005 in the Homerville United Methodist Church.
Burial was in Pine Forrest Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the Homerville United Methodist Church or Odyssey Health Care 1001 Williams St. Valdosta, GA 31601.

Mattie J. Cooper
Mattie J. Cooper, 68, of Homerville, died Tuesday, January 25, 2005, at Lake Haven Nursing Home in Valdosta after an illness.
She was a native of Stockbridge (Henry County) but grew up in Atlanta were she attended public schools. She had lived in Homerville for many years. Her parents were the late Mr. and Mrs. Eddie Jones.
Survivors include her husband, Donald Cooper of Homerville; two sisters, Lizzie Kate Glend and Glady Noland both of Atlanta; one brother, Bobby Jones of Atlanta; two step-sisters, Ella Green and Rebecca Easson both of Atlanta; mother-in-law, Hazel Watson of Gasden, Ala.; five sisters-in-law; three brothers-in-law and a host of other relatives.
Funeral services were held Saturday, January 29, 2005, at Morning Star Baptist Church in Homerville.
Rev. Timothy Riser officiated.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Fluker Funeral Home of Homerville.
Minnie Lee Thomas
Mrs. Minnie Lee Thomas, 86, of Fargo was born on October 6, 1918 to the late Charlie and Della Bogan in Vienna, Ga.
Mrs. Thomas was a faithful member of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Fargo. She was united in holy matrimony to the late Alfred Thomas, Sr. and to this union five children were born. She departed this life on Sunday, January 23, 2005, at Clinch Memorial Hospital.
She leaves to cherish her memories four daughters, Betty (Billy) Cunningham of Homerville, Caroline Thomas of Atlanta, Debra Thomas of Fargo, and Katherine (Emmitt) Magby of Homerville; one son, Darryl (Bonnie) Thomas of Homerville; also a host of grandchildren; great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, cousins and loving friends.
A funeral service was held at 1 p.m. Sunday, January 30, 2005, at Fargo Elementary School Auditorium.
Pastor Tony Jackson officiated.
Burial was in Edith cemetery in Fargo.

Rev. Forrest Glen ‘Buddy’ Buchanan
Rev. Forrest Glen “Buddy: Buchanan, 71, died Saturday, October 22, 2005, at Baptist Village after a short illness.
He was a native of Clarksville, Mo. but had resided most of his life in Griffin and Manor. He was the son of the late Lucille Poore McFarland and Ray L. Buchanan. He was precedd in death by two sisters, Lenora Taylor and Estalene Merryman. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and was Chaplin of the American Legion Post 10. Following a miraculous conbersion, he attednded Westminister College and Bible Institute in Tehuacana, Texas. He was ordained into the ministry and received his Elders credentials on August 28, 1960 in the Waycross Disrict of the Congregational Methodist Church. He has pastored many churches included Hortense Momorial in Hortense, Faith Temple in Waycross, Rock Springs Congregational Church in Milner, and Christ Memorial in Waycross. He served as interim pastor at Christ Memorial in Waycross, Faith Chapel in Jesup, and most recently as interim pastor at First Evangelical Methodist Church in Waycross.
He was a member of Victory Methodist Church and was in much demand as an evangelist and supply preacher. he was a former treasurer of the Waycross-Ware County Area Ministerial Association. He organized First Congreagtional Methodist Church in Griffin and assisterd with the organization of Faith Temple in Jesup while serving as Georgia Annual Conference Home Missions Director of the Congregational Methodist Church and Southern Congregational Methodist Church. He served several years a s Campmeeting Director of the Congreagational Methodist Church and Southern Congregational Methodist Church, as well as president and vice president of the Georgia Annual Conference of the Congregational Methodist Church. He was a prolific writer of editorials for his local newspapers in Griffin and Waycross. He established, published, and edited “The Herald of Victory” a minstry publication of the Georgia Annual Conference of Congregational Methodist Church and the Southern Congregational Methodist Church.
The survivors include his wife, Frankie Booth Buchanan of Manor; a sister, Carolyn Piff of Pleasant Hill, Il.; a brother, Daryl Greenwood of Gassvill, Ark.; two uncles, Edward LaVerne “Vernie” Poore (wife Marlene) of Smithboro, Il., Donald L. Buchanan of Nebo, Il; as sister-in-law, Patricia Booth Mills (husband, the late R. Franklin Mills, Jr.) of Manor; a niece, Patricia A. Herndon (husband Ricky) of Baxley; a nephew, Richard F. Mills, III (wife Sandy) of Manor; and a host of relatives and dear friends.
A funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 25, 2005, at Victory Methodist Church.
Burial was in Victory (Booth) Cemetery.
All ministers attending the funeral served as honorary pallbearers.

Evelyn E. Morrison
Mrs. Evelyn E. Morrison, 86, passed away Sunday, January 29, 2006, at Baptist Village in Waycross, following an extended illness.
A native of Cherokee County, Alabama, she had lived in Argyle, since 1952. She was a member of the Homerville Congregational Methodist Church and a homemaker. She was the daughter of the late Thomas Eubanks and Susie Clark Eubanks. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Morrison; two sons, Roy Dale Morrison and Donald Morrison; one step-son, Carl Morrison; two step-daughters, Pauline M. Buttram and Dorothy M. Wynn; two sisters, Ruby Gossett and Vera Rowland; two brothers, Roy Eubanks and Odis Eubanks.
Survivors are one daughter, Sybil Morrison Griffis of Homerville; three sons and daughters-in-law, Jimmy and Linda Morrison of Homerville; Johnny Mack and Betty Morrison of Waycross and Gary and Linda Morrison of Kingsland; two step-daughters, Myrtie M. Johnston of Gadsden, Ala and Ruth Morrison, Piedmont, Ala.; two daughters-in-law; Lavelle B. Morrison of Waycross and Connie S. Morrison of Argyle; 13 grandchildren, David and Amy Morrison, John and Heather Morrison, Karla and Wade Daniel, Kristi and Jim Dickerson, Kevin and Tara Morrison, Molly Morrison, Jeffery and Laura Morrison, Jared Morrison, Lisa and Lance Heard, Amy and Stephen Crosby, Don and Donna Morrison, Bryan Morrison and Lori Morrison; 15 great-grandchildren; one sister, Opal Ashworth of Piedmont, Ala. and several other relatives.
Services for Mrs. Morrison were held Tuesday, January 31, 2006 at 11 a.m. from the Homerville Congregational Methodist Church.

James Wright ‘Jim’ Parrish
James Wright “Jim” Parrish, 89, passed away Friday, January 27, 2006, in the Georgia War Veterans Home, in Milledgeville.
A native of Montgomery County, he had lived in Clinch County most of his life. He was a retired bee keeper, past member of the Beekeepers Association and the Farm Bureau and was a veteran of the U. S. Army serving during World War II. He was the son of the late Foster Floyd Parrish and Lydia Bell Foskey Parrish and was the widower of Jewell Allen Parrish. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Gail Lee.
Survivors are one son, Jimmy E. Parrish of Manor; one son-in-law, W. S. Lee of Manor; one sister, Grace P. Allen of Sardis, Ga.; one brother, Virgil Parrish of New York, NY; four grandchildren, Randy Lee of Homerville, Ramona Outlaw of Waycross, John Lee of Manor and Eric Lee of Waycross; six great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren and several other relatives.
Services for Mr. Parrish were held Sunday, January 29, 2006 at 2 p.m. from the chapel of Roundtree Funeral Home.

Mary Lou Singletary
Mrs. Mary Lou Singletary passed away Wednesday, January 25, 2006 at her residence after a short illness.
A native of Atkinson, County, she had lived in Clinch County most of her life. She was a member of the Lighthouse Assembly of God and was a homemaker. She was the daughter of the late James S. Deen and Elizabeth Griffis Deen Nobles. She was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Donald McCallum.
Survivors are her husband, Robert Kelly “Bob” Singletary of Homerville; one daughter, Leesa Lynn Crosby of Yulee, Fla.; two sons and daughters-in-law, John Anthony “Tony” and Amanda Crosby of Douglas, and James Stephen and Amy Crosby of Homerville; two sisters and brother-in-law, Delores McCallum of Wrey, Ga. and Hazel and Allen White of The Villages, Fla.; three brothers and sisters-in-law; James Huey and Judy Deen of Waynesville, Ga., Johnny and JoAnn Dean of Lakeland and Donald Deen of Homerville; six grandchildren, Daniel White, Brian White, Stacie White, Kyle Crosby all of Douglas, Garrison Crosby and Benjamin Crosby both of Homerville; and several other relatives.
Services for Mrs. Singletary were held Friday, January 27, 2006 at 3 p.m. from the Lighthouse Assembly of God.
Officiating was Rev. Donald Stalvey and Rev. Raymond Cason.

Active pallbearers were Mike Peagler, Farrell Peagler, Johnny Johnson, Jr., Darrell Padgett, Bradley White, and Eric White.
Honorary pallbearers were Winston Peterson, Matt Pittman, Buck Rodnenberry, Paul Morgan, Bob Sessoms, H.F. Mizell, Nolan McClaine, Jimmy McClaine, Berrien Sutton, Lawton Smith, Jimmy Smith, and Mike Strickland.
W.G. sang “Go Rest High”, Sara Deese sang, “Beulah Land”, and the congregation sang “I’ll Fly Away”.

Dr. William Cribbs
Dr. William Hubert “Bill” Cribbs, Sr., Ph.D., 58, died Wednesday, June 7, 2006, in the Adel Nursing Home in Adel, following a short illness.
He was born on January 18, 1948, in Lowndes County to Vertis Young Cribbs of Valdosta and the late George Hubert Cribbs. He graduated from Valdosta State College and the University of Georgia. He was a member of Leadership Georgia, Cornerstone United Methodist Church of Valdosta and was past head of the Alapaha District Boy Scouts of America. He was a professor of biology at Valdosta State University for 25 years before his retirement, was the faculty advisor to the Delta-Chi fraternity, and did private tours of the Okefenokee Swamp. He was the widower of Mary Olive Cribbs, who passed away in March 2003.
Survivors, other than his mother, are one son and daughter-in-law, William Hubert “Will” and Stephanie Cribbs, II of Tallahassee, Fla.; one brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Sharon Cribbs of Valdosta; his mother-in-law, Eloise Strickland of Homerville; two nephews, Paul Cribbs, Jr. of Warner Robbins, and Justin and Stacy Cribbs of Valdosta; and several other relatives.
A funeral was held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 10, 2006, at the Homerville First Baptist Church.
Officiating was Rev. Marvin Smith.
Burial was in the North cemetery near DuPont.
Active pallbearers were Robert Lee Jones, Justin Cribbs, Will Joyce, Andy Musgrove, Paul Cribbs, Jr., and Clay Musgrove.
W.G. Smith sang “Amazing Grace”.

Larry E. Denmark
Mr. Larry E. Denmark, 62, of Doraville, Georgia, passed away Friday, May 19, 2006 after a lengthy illness.
He was born on August 22, 1943, in Miami, and had lived in Clinch County many years. He served in the United States Navy. He was preceded in death by his father, Norman M. Denmark.
Survivors include his wife, Ming Yu Denmark of Doraville; mother, Christine (Darley) Davis of Jacksonville; a sister, Nancy Gillette of Jacksonville and a brother, Henry “Buddy” Denmark of Fitzgerald.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 23, 2006 at 2 p.m. in the Lakeland Chapel of Music Funeral Services.
Burial was in Arabia Cemetery.
