Anna Marie Odom
Anna Marie Odom, 53, of Homeland, Ga. passed away September 23, 2011 at the VA Medical Center in Gainesville. She was preceded in death by one sister, Lois Odom Moore, and brothers, Harold Odom, Charles Odom, and Bobby Odom.
She was born November 23, 1957 in Shubuta, Mississippi to E.L. Odom and Esther Tew. She had lived in Clinch County. She served in the U.S. Army for nine years earning ribbons and medals for her service.
She is survived by one sister, Lucille Elchorn; brothers, Dean Odom and Maurice Odom; special friend and family member Mavis Bohannon; several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 28, 2011 in the chapel of Shepard Funeral Home.
Officiating will be Rev. Carolyn Warren.
Burial will following Homeland Cemetery.
Shepard Funeral Home of Folkston is serving the Odom family.

Alma Braswell Rouse
Mrs. Alma Braswell Rouse, 85, passed away Wednesday, September 21, 2011, in the Clinch Memorial Hospital, following an extended illness.
Mrs. Rouse was born August 19, 1926, in Emmanuel County to the late Bonnie Braswell and Lena Blackstone Braswell. She was a homemaker and was preceded in death by her husband, John Alfred Rouse and one daughter, Nancy Pearl Rouse.
Survivors are three daughters, Joyce Morrow of Homerville, Linda Touchton of Dallas, Ga. and Charlotte White of Homerville; one son, Johnny A. Rouse of Inman S.C.; five sisters, Bonnie Sue Adams of Cogdell, Madeline Adams of Douglas, Myrtle Braswell of Dothan, Ala., Betty Angsley of Thompson, Ga. and Lou Perkins of Blythe, Ga.; 14 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; 11 great -great-grandchildren and several other relatives.
Services for Mrs. Rouse were held Saturday, September 24, 2011, at 11 a.m. from the Shiloh Southern Congregational Methodist Church.
Officiating was Rev. Keith Chauncey.
Internment was in the Pine Forest Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Rusty Crenshaw, Duan Lednum, Billy Joe Mathis, Jerry Herrin, David Ballance, Darrell Keene and Nathin Griffin.
W. G. Smith sang, "Amazing Grace" and "Beulah Land".
Roundtree Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Sharon Martin Baumbach
Mrs. Sharon Martin Baumbach, 53, passed away Wednesday, July 11, 2012, in the South Georgia Medical Center, Valdosta, following a short illness.
Mrs. Baumbach was born September 10, 1958, in Waycross, to the late Charles Martin and Juanita King Martin. She worked as a retail clerk in area convenience stores. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Jennifer Yvonne Burgeson.
Survivors are her husband, Rick Baumbach of Homerville; three sons, Jason Eric Burgeson of Waycross, Justin Edward Burgeson of Waynesville and Jarred Earnest Burgeston of Blackshear; three sisters, Lynn Martin, Howard, Ga., Charlotte Burgeson of Murfreesboro, Tenn. and Charita Martin of Pensacola, Fla.; three brothers, Chuck Martin of Butler, Ga., Eddie Martin of Tunnel Hill, Ga. and Jimmy Martin of Talbotton, Ga.; three grandchildren, and several other relatives.
A Celebration of Life for Mrs. Baumbach was held Friday, July 13, 2012, at 4 p.m. at 815 West Forest Ave., Homerville.
Memorilization was by cremation.
Roundtree Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Martha C. McQuaig
Martha Christine McQuaig, 83, died Friday, January 18, 2013.
She was born March 26, 1930. She was preceded in death by her parents, Isoline and Herbert Studebaker; a brother, H.E. Studebaker; and a sister, Lilly “Lalone” Bradford. A native of Homerville, she resided in Jacksonville, Fla. in her later years of life. She was a woman of many talents and found the most joy in sewing and cooking. She always saw the good in others and never judged a book by its cover. She had a heart of gold and always saw the positive in others and had an endless love for those she loved. She was always the giving kind. She was what most would call a one-of-a-kind woman. She adored her children and grandchildren and was always a huge part of their lives. Although she gave up her battle to cancer and chose to go home to be with the Lord, she will forever live in the hearts of those who loved her.
She is survived by three sisters Pearl Kight, Mavis Maynard and Helen Booth, all of Homerville; two sons, Guss Ellsworth Plair and wife Teresa Boyd Plair of Jacksonville, Fla., and Randall Eugene Plair and wife Lori Plair of Jacksonville, Fla.; five grandchildren, Hollie Robinson, Heather Foshee, Guss Plair Jr., Brandi Plair and Alexie Plair; five great-grandchildren, Gage, Samuel, Moses, Landon and Copper; and several nieces and nephews.
A celebration of her life was held Saturday, January 26, 2013, at 2 p.m. in Homerville, at Cornerstone Baptist Church.Highway.
She was laid to rest in Pine Forest cemetery in Homerville.

Myrtice Strickland Thrift
Mrs. Myrtice Strickland Thrift, 81, died early Sunday, January 27, 2013, at Hospice House Satilla following a short illness.
She was a native and lifelong of Ware County. She was preceded in death by her husband, Anthony “Flint” Thrift, her son, Harry Thrift and her parents, William Perry Strickland and Rosa Cox Strickland. She was member of Suwannee Chapel of God of Prophecy and retired from B-Way Corporation in Homerville.
Survivors include her children, Lavern Strickland and Stanley Thrift (wife Beth) both of Homerville; daughter-in-law, Teresa Thrift of Homerville; six grandchildren, Margie Hendrix (husband Rick), April Thrift Lane, Kaitlyn Thrift, Kelsie Thrift, Laurie Anna Lee (husband Josh) and Maura Howell (husband Ben); six great-grandchildren; a sister, Alberta Carter of Fernandina Beach, Fla.; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 30, 2013, at Suwannee Chapel Church of God of Prophecy.
Burial will be in Suwannee Chapel Cemetery.
Music Funeral Home served the Thrift family.

CHARLIE JACOB CARTER
Mr. Charlie Jacob Carter age 73 died Friday afternoon at the Berrien County Hospital in Nashville, Ga. He was a native of Wayne County but had lived most of his life in Pierce and Ware County. The past few years he had lived in Lake Park, Ga., He was preceded in death by his parents Henry Carter and Oddest Griffis Carter and a son Charlie Dennis Carter.
Mr. Carter was a retired Mechanic and Welder and was of the Mormon Faith. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Army.
He is survived by 3 sons Curtis J. Carter of Quincy, Fl., Wayne Carter wife Cathy of Newton, Ga., Johnny Carter wife Paula of Lake Park, Ga.. Daughter Annette Crawford husband Osmond of Leesburg, Ga., former wife Betty Jean Knighton of Albany, Ga., 11 Grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, 2 sisters Susie A. Corbitt of Monroeville, Al., and Bobbie Bates of Jacksonville, Fl., and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
A graveside service will be held Sunday afternoon at 2PM at Big Creek cemetery in Wayne County, Ga., . Visitation will be held Saturday evening from 7 until 9PM at Miles-Odum Funeral Home.

EMMA LUCILLE THIGPEN
Miss Emma Lucille Thigpen age 76 died Saturday afternoon at the Satilla Care Center after an extended illness. She was a native and lifelong resident of Waresboro. She was preceded in death by her parents Joseph Lester Thigpen and Annie James Thigpen.
She was a homemaker and a member of Pineview Baptist Church in Waresboro.
Miss Thigpen is survived by 4 brothers Roy Thigpen and wife Bernice of Waycross, Robert Thigpen wife Jacquelyn of Waresboro, Joe Thigpen Wife Robbie Lou of Waycross, and Huey Thigpen wife Clara Faye of Waresboro. 2 Sisters Ruby O'Neal of Waycross, and Louise Cox of Burley, Idaho. A niece Deborah Thigpen Vann of Hillard, Fl., 7 Nephews Billy and David Thigpen of Waycross, Terry Thigpen of Folkston, Hugh Thigpen of Atlanta, Richard Thigpen of Waycross, Scott Thigpen of Waresboro, and Mark Thigpen of Waresboro and several great nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday 2PM in the chapel of Miles-Odum Funeral Home. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery. Visitation will be held Monday Evening from 7 until 9PM at the funeral home.

JACQUELYN CALHOUN SMART TAYLOR
Mrs. Jacquelyn Calhoun Smart Taylor age 58 died early Monday Morning at the Satilla Regional Medical Center after an extended illness. She was a native of Fairfield, Iowa but had lived most of her life in Waycross. She was preceded in death by her husband Talmadge Smart and her parents Paul Calhoun and Edith Henry Calhoun.
She was a homemaker and attended Swamp Road Baptist Church.
She is survived by 3 daughters Betty Selph, Karen Crews husband Bill, Bonnie Beverly husband Glen all of Waycross, a son Tony Smart wife Tonya of Blackshear, 12 grandchildren, Jenifer and Travis Selph of Homerville, Brandon, Danny, and Haley Selph of Waycross, Dustin and Sarah Crews of Waycross, Mandy and Ashley Oglesby, and Josh Beverly all of Waycross, and Derrick and Taylor Smart of Blackshear. 5 Sisters Donna Smart of Waycross, Beverly Broxton of Fairfield, Iowa, Shirley Langel of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, Luella Hagan and Janet Williams of Fairfield, Iowa, and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
A funeral service will be held Thursday 11AM in the chapel of Miles-Odum Funeral Home. Burial will be in Corinth Freewill Baptist Church cemetery in Bacon County. Visitation will be held Wednesday evening from 7 until 9PM at the funeral Home.

JAMES O. GORNTO, SR.
James O. Gornto, Sr., well known businessman, died at home on Monday afternoon at the age of 82 after a long illness.
He was born in Dothan, Alabama, but spent most of his earlier years in Valdosta, Georgia. While living there he met and married his wife of 63 years, Virginia Giddens. He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Pearle Gornto, two brothers, Sam and Lonnie Gornto, and a great-grandson, Nicholas Kirkland.
Mr. Gornto served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was owner and CEO of Singleton Furniture Company, though semi-retired since 1987. He was a past president of the Waycross Lions Club and an active member for many years of the Waycross and Ware County Chamber of Commerce as well as the Okefenokee Country Club. He was also an active member of the Church of Christ on Riverside Drive.
He is survived by his wife Virginia of Waycross; a daughter Ginger Ann Montero (Bud) of Waycross; a daughter Sunny Nichols (Jim) of Cape Cod, MA; a son James (Buddy) O. Gornto, Jr. (Gege) of Waycross; a brother Jack Gornto of Indialantic, FL; and a sister Pearl Gornto of Waycross.
He is also survived by grandchildren Jensie Chetelat of Seattle, WA; Tim Kirkland of Atlanta, GA; David Montero of Waycross; Jimbo Nichols of Taunton, MA; Matthew Nichols of Huntington, NY; Mindy Nichols of Valdosta, GA; great-granddaughter Jenna Kirkland of Atlanta, GA; as well as several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
The funeral will be held at the Miles-Odum Chapel on Thursday at 3 p.m. with burial at Greenlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at the Funeral Home.
The family asks that any donations made in memory of the deceased be sent to Hospice Satilla at 1906 Tebeau St. Waycross, GA, 31501.

JOSEPH GRIFFIN STONE
Mr. Joseph Griffin Stone age 90 died Thursday Morning at the Waycross Health and Rehabilitation Center after an extended illness. He was a native of Pierce County but had lived most of his life in Ware County. He was preceded in death by his wife Ireland Rebecca Barnard Stone and his parents Griffin Stone and Rachel Walker Stone.
Mr. Stone was a retired mechanic from John King Ford and was a member of High Bluff Primitive Baptist Church.
He is survived by 2 daughters Barbara Walker husband Ivey of Blackshear, and Nancy Padgett husband J.S. of Waycross. A son Edward Stone wife Maxine of Waycross. 19 Grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and a great-great-granddaughter. 2 sisters Pearl Scurry of Waycross and Jewell Watkins husband Claude of Fernandina Beach, Fl.and a brother Preston Stone of Waycross and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
A funeral service will be held Saturday 11AM at High Bluff Primitive Baptist Church. Burial will be in the High Bluff Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday Evening from 7 until 9PM at Miles-Odum Funeral Home.

JULIA BAILEY
Mrs. Julia Bailey age 91 died Tuesday afternoon at Satilla Regional Medical Center after a brief illness. She was a native of Hancock County, Georgia but had lived most of her life in Waycross. She was preceded in death by her Husband Everett C. Bailey, and her parents James Watts Alfriend and Edith Pierce Alfriend.
Mrs. Bailey was a retired fifth grade school teacher from Crawford Street Elem. And was a member of First United Methodist Church. She was a past Worthy Matron of the Eastern Star and was Past President of the Business and Professional Women.
She is survived by 2 daughters Camille Bailey and Paula Bailey of Waycross, 2 Sons Walter Bailey of Ormond Beach, Fl., and Neal Bailey wife Sherry of Brooksville, Fl., 4 Grandchildren Erin and Kristen Bailey of Ormond Beach, Fl., and Kelly and Cameron Bailey of Columbus, Miss. 2 great-grandchildren Robert and Ashleigh Perkins of Columbus Miss. and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
A memorial service will be held Friday 2PM in the chapel of Miles-Odum Funeral Home.
There will be no public visitation.

RUTH CHAMBLESS COLLINS
Mrs. Ruth Chambless Collins age 81 died suddenly Friday evening at the Satilla Regional Medical Center. She was a native of Cherokee County, Alabama but had lived in Clinch and Ware Counties since 1951. She was preceded in death by 2 husbands Robert Collins and G.W. Chambless and her parents Ed Keasler and Winnie Irene Morgan Keasler.
She was a homemaker.
She is survived by 3 daughters Winnie Lou O'Neal husband Mac of Manor, Pat Walley of Waycross and Deborah Green husband Danny of Marion, S.C., a son Larry Chambless wife Dianne of Homerville, 11 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, 3 great, great-grandchildren, a sister Carolyn Rushing of Piedmont, Al., and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives. A funeral service will be held Monday 2pm at Camp Creek Baptist Church in Clinch County. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Miles-Odum Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Wilmer Solomon Boswell
Wilmer Solomon Boswell, 100, died Thursday October 30, 2003 at Baptist Village after a short illness.
Born January 26, 1903 in Nashville, GA., her husband William Johnson Boswell, her daughter, Dorothy Gibson and her brother, Julian Malone Solomon, preceded her in death. Her parents were the late Annie McRae Solomon and Mills Thomas Solomon of Douglas and Waycross. After the death of her husband, she moved from St. Simons and made her home in Waycross to be near her nieces and their families.
She is survived by her two nieces, Mrs. Edward C. Rees (husband Edward) of Waycross, Mrs. Henry Ansley Seaman of Hoboken and their children, Miss Jan Seaman of Franklin, NC, Mr. Andy Seaman (wife Beth) of Atlanta, Mr. Ed Rees of Augusta, Mr. Bill Rees (wife Tina) of Waycross, two great nephews and two great nieces.
She was a lifelong Presbyterian and served faithfully in many different capacities until her late nineties. She was also a member of the Lyman Hall Chapter of the DAR, the Waycross Kiwanis Club and the Cherokee Garden Club. For over 100 years she lived independently enjoying her hobbies of reading, gardening, caring for her pets and entertaining her family and friends. She especially delighted in her great nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Saturday, November 1st at the home of her niece, 1310 Atlantic Ave., Waycross, GA. A memorial service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church on Sunday November 2, 2003 at 3 o'clock. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, 401 Ava St., Waycross, GA. 31501, or a favorite charity.
Miles-Odum Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
