George Frank Pruet, 74 died Sunday morning at Baptist Village following a lengthy illness. He was born in Montgomery, Alabama, grew up in Americus, Georgia, and
later moved to Waycross in 1944. He graduated from Waycross High School and attended Virginia Military Institute in Lexington, Virginia. He was associated with the P.N. Harley Hardware Co., and was the manager of Turpentine Farmers of Waycross. Later, he was a pharmaceutical salesman with Jensen Salsbury Laboratories in Kansas City, Missouri and Merritt Veterinary Supplies in Sumter, South Carolina. He was preceded in death by his parents Malvin H., and Essie H. Pruet and a daughter, Louise Pruet.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Winn Pruet of Waycross, a daughter, Peggy Stovall husband Sam of Waycross, two sons, Frank M. Pruet of Marietta, Charles C. Pruet of Athens, a granddaughter, Amy Barrington of Atlanta, a grandson, Bo Barrington of Jesup, a brother Charles C. Pruet wife Alicia of Plant City, Florida, a sister Gayle P. Everett, a niece Lisa Durrence husband Jop of Waycross and numerous other relatives.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church and the Adult Bible Class. He was a member of the Elks Club of Waycross. He served on the board of the Waycross Ware County Sports Hall of Fame and was a former Kiwanian. He delighted in his family and his Sunday School Class. He was an avid fisherman and sports enthusiast. The family will receive friends at Miles-Odum Funeral Home from 7-8 pm on Monday night. Services will be held at First United Methodist Church on Tuesday morning at 10:00 am (06-08-04). iIntermentwill be in Oakland Cemetery. The Adult Sunday School Class, E. C. Rees, Boykin Clarke, Henry Clarke, Jack Perritt and Rudy Barrington, will serve as Honorary Pallbearers. They are requested to gather at the church at 9:45 a.m. Tuesday morning.

Mrs. Nina B. Doughty, 93, died May 27, 2004 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma after a brief illness. Born in Buford, South Carolina to the late George Beckett and Elenor Beckett she had made her home in Waycross, Richmond Hill, GA, and Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She was a homemaker and poet and a member of the American Poetry Society. She also was a member of Grace Episcopal Church in Waycross for 35-40 years. Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Doughty and eight siblings.
Mrs. Doughty is survived by her son, Arthur Doughty III and his wife Mae of Savannah, four daughters, Joyce Swallow of Oklahoma City, Lillian Masschelin of Charleston, South Carolina, Mary Alice Martin and her husband Don of Waycross, Louise 'Boop' Mathison of Kingwood, Texas, 13 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, 1 great-grandson and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

John William Hughes

John William Hughes, 86, formerly of Waycross died Wednesday morning in the Methodist Willowbrook Hospital in Houston, TX. A native of Waycross, Mr. Hughes lived here until 1991 when he moved to Willis, TX to be near his family. After a heart attack in November 2001 he lived in the Heartland, Willowbrook Healthcare Center until his death. Mr. Hughes was a graduate of Waycross High School, a veteran of the WWII Army Air Corp (Pacific Campaign). He was employed by the Atlantic Coastline Railroad, elected by and served the membership of the Brotherhood of Railway Carmen as Local Chairman, General Chairman, Secretary & Treasurer of the Joint Protective Board, and as officer of the General Executive Board of the US and Canada. Mr. Hughes retired in the early 1980's to indulge his hobby of Farming in the Alma area. He was a Past Master of Frank C. Folks Masonic Lodge #192, member of Alee Temple, Savannah, GA, Charter member of Hasan Temple A.A.O.N.M.S.. Mr. Hughes was involved in the community as an Honorary Chairman of Ware County United Way Fund Campaign 1964 & 1965, advisory board for Bill Stuckey, Jr., US Congressman for the 8th Congressional District. Bill was a strong and gentle man who was a great friend and staunch advocate for the people and things he believed in. He will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him. His parents were the late Willis Charles Hughes, Sr. And Ivy Reddish Hughes. He was predeceased by his wife Blanche Kelly Hughes in 1985, one brother, W.C., Jr., one sister Louise.
Survivors include one daughter, Diane Hughes Brown (husband Craig), Houston, TX, one granddaughter, Kelly Brown, Oxford, MS, one grandson, Patrick Hughes Brown, College Station, TX.
A graveside service will be held Saturday morning at 11:00 am in Oakland Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Friday evening from seven until eight pm at the funeral home.

Beulah Mae (Knowles) Spradley, 80, departed from this life, suddenly at her residence Wednesday morning (12-01-04) from an apparent heart attack.
She was born and reared in Charlton County Georgia, daughter of the late Jeffrey Knowles and Lula Lloyd Knowles.
She had been making her home in Ware County for the past 55 years and was a member of the Hebardville United Methodist Church and sang in the choir.
She was very active in her community, helping with food baskets for the sick and shut-ins.
She is survived by her husband Lee Spradley of Waycross; four sons Ronnie Spradley of Hoboken, Ga., Mike Spradley, John Spradley, wife Melba, Donnie Spradley, wife Tammy all of Waycross; three daughters Carol James, husband Curley of Manor, Ga., Leslie Jankowski, husband James of Blackshear, Ga. And Susie Roe, husband Bud of Hortense, Ga.; four brothers Gene Knowles of Waycross, Emanuel, Arthur and Howard Knowles all of Folkston, Ga.; two sisters Geraldine Butts of Folkston, Ga., and Inez Riggins of St. Marys, Ga.; nineteen grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon (12-03-04) at one o'clock at the Hebardville United Methodist Church.
Burial will be in the Cornith Primitive Baptist Church cemetery near Hickox, Georgia.

Marie Kathleen Cribbs, 56, St. Mary's Georgia, died Wednesday afternoon (11-24-04) at the home of her mother Mrs. Cecile Ternest in Jamestown after an extended illness. She was born and reared in Ware County, daughter of the late Kent Ternest. A Graduate of Ware County High School Class of 1966. She had been making her home in St. Marys for the past 36 years, where she as an active member of the Westside Baptist Church. She is survived by a son James Corey Cribbs, wife Stacy of St. Mary's, GA; her mother Cecile Hall Ternest of Waycross; three brothers Kenneth Stephen Ternest of Waycross; Larry Wayne Ternest, wife Ann of Millwood, Ga., and Timothy N. Edgar Coleman Moore, 71, of Blackshear died Friday afternoon at the Satilla Regional Medical Center after a brief illness. He was a native of Blackshear, son of the late Daniel Monroe Moore and Sarah Jane Coleman Moore. He retired in 1990 from the Maintenance Department at Baptist Village. Mr. Moore along with his wife owned and operated Ready Go Barbecue on Lesher Street for many years. He was a member of the Ben James Primitive Baptist Church. Ronnie Joe Justice, 58, of Waycross died Friday afternoon (Jan. 7, 2005) at the Satilla Regional Medical Center after a lengthy illness. He was a native of Ware County and had lived here all of his life. He was of the Baptist faith. His parents were the late William Farley Justice, Jr. and Edna Elizabeth Chancey Justice. Mr. Justice is survived by his wife, Ginny Davis, Waycross, one son, Joey Justice (wife Andrea), two step-sons, William Davis, Waycross, Tracy Davis (wife Charlotte), Hoboken, one step-daughter, Tabitha Larisey (husband Michael), Waycross, seven grandchildren, two sisters, Bertiey Mae Lee, Blackshear, Pauline Gill, Offerman, several nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Idelle L. Mize, 95, died Sunday afternoon (01-09-05) at the Satilla Regional Medical Center after a short illness. She was born in Cook County Georgia, daughter of the late William E. Lindsey and Ila Virginia Wilkes Lindsey. She had been making her home in Waycross since 1924 and was preceded in death by her husbands Dewitt T. Parrish and P. H. Mize and two sister Odelle Pogue, who was her twin and Jewell Mathis, a brother Ed Lindsey. She served as a operator and Assignment Clerk with Southern Bell retiring in 1970 with forty-two years of service. She was a member of the Second Baptist Church, Waycross Woman’s Club, Cherokee Council Telephone Pioneers, Grandmother Club and served with the Satilla Regional Medical Center Auxiliary for many years. She is survived by a daughter Carolyn Parrish Patten, husband Ron of Orange Park, Fla.; a granddaughter Lindsey Hunley of Orange Park, Fla.; a great-grandson Dillon Hunley of Orange Park, Fla.; two nieces Mary Brodersen, husband Bruce of Peachtree City, Ga. And Sandra Cook of Albany, Ga.; two great nephews Tommy Lovette, wife Linda of Waycross and Mike Lindsey, wife Cheryl of Goose Creek, S. C.; a number of other nieces, nephews and other relatives. Margaret Glaze Bennett
Margaret Glaze Bennett, 96, died Sunday, January 9, 2005, at Quality Health Care of Fernandina Beach, Fla., after a brief illness resulting from a stroke. Mrs. Bennett, a native of Waycross, was known by three generations of Waycross-area residents as the woman behind the beloved businessman known as “Mr. Harry”, who preceded her in death in 1998, at the age of 103, after 63 years of marriage. In each of the three local stores her husband owned over the years, Mrs. Bennett was the costume jewelry buyer and salesperson who used her personal flair for fashion to help embellish the wardrobes of many regular customers. She was also the sought-after, self-taught flower arranger who sold many of her silk creations in the store’s containers. Mrs. Bennett was an active member of First Christian Church from her earliest American Red Cross volunteer, a cub Scout leader, a garden clubber with various flower arranging awards, and a Grand Worthy Matron of the Eastern Star. For the last 25 years, Mrs. Bennett has been apart-time resident of Waycross and Fernandina Beach, where she has family. She was hospitalized six weeks ago at Baptist Medical Center Nassau with a stroke. She was transferred to Quality Health soon afterward. She is survived by one son, Harry J. Bennett, Jr. Of Waycross; two daughters Joe Ann Bennett of Amelia Island and Marlene Davis and her husband Ray Davis of Fernandina Beach, two grandchildren, Dawn Fischer of Tampa, FL, and Gary Davis of Katy, TX and three great-grandchildren Bennett, Brooke and Blake Davis and other relatives. Dean Howard Roberson
Dean Howard Roberson, 80, of Evans, GA died Tuesday evening at University Hospital in Augusta, GA after a lengthy illness. Mrs. Roberson was a native of Bradenton, FL. She grew up in Clay County, FL and later worked in the induction department at Camp Blanding in Jacksonville, FL. In 1948 she graduated from Georgia Teachers’ College in Statesboro, where in 1947 she was crowned the first Miss Georgia Teachers’ College. In 1949 she and her husband moved to Waycross. She began her teaching career as a third grade teacher at Hoboken Elementary School before joining the staff of Waycross High School as a typing and shorthand teacher. In 1972, Mrs. Roberson received her Master’s Degree in Special Education from Georgia Southern College. Before retirement from the Waycross City School System, she was recognized as a Teacher of the Year at Alice Street Elementary. Mrs. Roberson was a member of Alpha Rho Tau Art Sorority, Alpha Delta Kappa Education Sorority, the Junior Women’s Club, the Okefenokee Ladies Golf Association, First United Methodist Church and the Booth Fellowship Sunday School Class. Her parents were the late Olin Smith Howard, Sr. and Margaret Dean Howard. Also preceding Mrs. Roberson in death were her husband, Quillon Glen Roberson, one sister, Georgeanne Rose, and one brother, Olin S. Howard, Jr. Survivors include one daughter, Roxanne Johnson (husband Jim) of Marietta, GA, one son, Glen Roberson (wife Jane) of Evans, GA, four grandchildren, Jenna Roberson, Matthew Roberson, Andy Johnson, Sara Johnson, several nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Curtis Harold Gibbs, 76, of Blackshear died early Wednesday morning (Jan. 19, 2005) at his residence after a lengthy illness. Mr. Gibbs was a native of Liberty County, GA and moved to Ware County in 1951 and moved to Pierce County in 1990. Mr. Gibbs retired in 1990 from CSX Railroad after 39 years of service where he was a machinist. For 25 years Mr. Gibbs was the Local Chairman of the International Association of Machinists, was a member of the Frank C. Folks Masonic Lodge #192. He was a spirit filled Christian. His parents were the late John and Mable Smith Gibbs. He was also preceded in death by one brother, Tracy Gibbs and one sister, Sybil Williams. Menza (Hagin) Rowling, 72, died Sunday, January 23, 2005, at her home in Savannah, GA., after a brief illness. Her parents were the late Everett Hagin and Edna Mizell Hagin. Also preceding her in death was her beloved husband Hugh William Rowling, Sr. and brother Everett Vic Hagin, Jr. She was a native of Brantley County, although she lived most of her life in Savannah. She was a graduate of Hoboken High School. After serving 20 years in the Air Force, Hugh and Menza relocated to Savannah. She worked for Savannah Wholesale for many years before joining Friedman\\\\\\\'s Jewelers where she worked until her retirement. She had been making her home in Ware County since 1981 and was a member of the City Blvd. Church Of Christ. She is survived by a daughter, Deborah Hersey Arnold, husband James C. of Waycross, a granddaughter Caitlyn Ariel Arnold of Waycross, three sisters Bertha Fitzgerald, husband Henry of Killeen, Texas, Lenora Perry of Wayne, Oklahoma and Beatrice Austin, husband Don of Ft. Mary Lucretia (Crosby) Barlow
Mary Lucretia Crosby Barlow was born May 21, 1905 in Millwood, Georgia to Tildon and Alice Crosby. She lived for many years in Pensacola, Florida where she volunteered at the Pensacola Baptist Hospital. She was a faithful member of St. Mark’s Methodist Church and sang in the choir and volunteered services. She was a member of the Garden Club and the Women’s Club. Mary was a homemaker and enjoyed visitations with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved shopping, dining out and being with friends. All her family will miss her strawberry shortcake. In her later years she lived in Sarasota, Florida where she attended Ridgecrest Presbyterian Church. Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis B. Barlow, and her four daughters, Eunice Barlow Brasington, Lu Reitha Barlow Taylor, Tempie Alice Barlow and Mary Jean Barlow and a granddaughter, Pamela Brasington Beakley. Mrs. Barlow is survived by a daughter, Dotti Lee and her husband Bobby of Lemoore, California, eight grandchildren, Robert Lee and wife Christina of Hanford, California, Richard Lee and his wife Fran of Lemoore, California, Debbie Matherly and her husband Jeff of Florida, Lynne Morrow and her husband Richard of New York, Susan Rasmussen and her husband Brent of Florida, Sandra Mills and her husband John of Texas, Thom Taylor and his wife Laurie of Washington, Gwen Broz and her husband Peter of Florida, great-grandchildren, Crystal and Sarah Lee, Ryan and Audrey Lee and numerous other great-grandchildren and a brother, Talmadge Crosby and his wife Faye of Kingsland, GA. Visitation was held from 2-4 pm at Phipps-Dale Funeral Chapel in Lemoore, California. A funeral service will be held Wednesday at 4 pm at the funeral chapel. A graveside service will be held Saturday at 1 pm in Oakland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, friends who wish may contribute to the Lemoore Presbyterian Church, 260 “B” St., Lemoore, California 93245.
