Services for Otis Lorenzo Powell Jr. of Rhine were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 17 at Millcreek Baptist Church of Rhine with interment in the church cemetery.
The Rev. Donald Eady officiated.
Powell, 10, died Monday, July 12, 2004, at his home in Rhine. He was the son of Otis and Barbara Powell Sr.
He was a native of Dodge County and was a student at the Dodge County Elementary School.
In addition to his parents, survivors include his sisters, Miesha Greene of Rhine and Kishma Graham of Jacksonville; maternal grandparents, Clenzia M. Majette of Rhine and Bobby Jackson of Miami, Fla.; paternal grandparents, Cleveland and Grace Wilcox of Jacksonville; and several aunts and uncles.
A.L. Spaulding Funeral Home of McRae was in charge of arrangements.
Ella Mae Williams Allen
Services for Ella Mae Williams Allen of Helena were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 3 at Centilla Missionary Baptist Church of Helena with interment in the church cemetery.
The Rev. William Jackson officiated.
Allen, 74, died Friday, June 25, 2004 at McRae Manor Nursing Home. She was the daughter of the late Alfred and Georgia Williams and was the widow of Johnnie L. Allen.
She was a native of Telfair County, and worked for over 30 years at the Telfair County Hospital where she retired.
Survivors include her children, Sandra Carter and Kelvin Allen, both of Savannah, Johnnie Mae Foye of Waldolf, Md., Clifford Allen of Helena, Earl Allen, Lester Allen, Judy Maxine Allen and Stephen Allen, all of Baltimore, Md., Tyrone Allen of Mt. Vernon; sister, Louise McLendon of McRae; 36 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; care-giver, Eunita Maria Stevens of Savannah.
A.L. Spaulding Funeral Home of McRae was in charge of arrangements.
John Junior Garrison
Services for John Junior Garrison of Hamden, Conn. were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 22 in the Peter H. Torello and Son Funeral Home in Hamden, Conn. with interment with military honors at Beaverdale Memorial Park.
Garrison, 81, died Saturday, June 19, 2004 at his home in Hamden, Conn. He was the son of John H. and Edna Bowen Garrison.
He was a native of Wauchula, Fla., and moved at an early age to Jacksonville, Ga. He attended local schools and graduated from Ocmulgee High School in 1941 and later moved to Hamden, Conn. In 1942, he enlisted in the Navy and trained as a machinist at the Sub Base in New London, Conn. and served in the Pacific on the submarine USS Baya.
He was an operating engineer for several large area construction firms, and with Cosgrove Construction Company for over 20 years prior to his retirement. He loved to hunt and fish and in 1969 he received the John Dennis Bowling Award.
Survivors include his daughters, Janet Lynn Criscio and LisaLee Garrison, both of Connecticut; sister, Muriel Austine Giaquinto of East Haven, Conn; three grandchildren; and one niece and three nephews.
Peter H. Torello and Son Funeral Home of Hamden, Conn. was in charge of arrangements.
Emma Sue Walker Hatton
Services for Emma Sue Walker Hatton of Tallahassee, Fla. were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 8 in the chapel of Lowe’s Funeral Home with interment in the Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church Cemetery in McRae.
The Rev. Joyce Harris officiated.
Hatton, 100, died Monday, July 5, 2004 at the Tandem Health Care of Tallahassee, Fla. She was the daughter of Matthew and Charlotte Collins Walker and was the widow of Ira Hatton.
She was a native of Telfair County, but had been residing in Tallahassee, Fla. She was a homemaker and former teacher, a member of Winter Chapel United Methodist Church in Doraville and attended Saint Paul’s United Methodist Church in Tallahassee, Fla.
Survivors include her sons, Eldridge Hatton and John Hatton, both of Doraville; daughter, Charlotte Hatton Courson of Tallahassee, Fla.; three grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sister-in-laws, Carrie Walker of Dublin, Peggy Walker and Jane Walker, both of McRae.
In lieu of flowers the family request that memorial contributions be made to the Winter Chapel United Methodist Church, 5105 Winter Chapel Road, Doraville, Ga., 30360 or to Elder Care Services, Inc., 2518 W. Tennessee Street, Tallahassee, Fla. 32304.

James C. “J.C.” Lee Sr.
Services for James C. “J.C.” Lee Sr. of Glenwood were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 10 at the New Mt. Ararat Holiness Church of Ailey with interment in Lee’s Cemetery in Glenwood.
The Rev. Earl Smith officiated.
Lee, 70, died Saturday, July 3, 2004, at the Wheeler County Hospital. He was the son of the late Charlie and Mary Etta McRae Lee and was married to Jewell Mackey Lee of Glenwood.
He was a native of Wheeler County, and was employed as a logger by the R.T. Gilder Timber Company. He served as a faithful member and deacon of Starlight Baptist Church and a member of Glenwood Enterprise Lodge number 139. He served on the Board of Registrars for Wheeler County and the Glenwood Housing Authority.
In addition to his wife, survivors include his children, Jackie Wright and Charles Lee, both of Alamo, Annette Graham of Pooler, Tony Lee of Huber Heights, Ohio; brothers, Etheridge McRae of Mt. Vernon, Joe B. Lee of San Antonio, Texas, Robert T. Lee, Charlie Lee, Nathaniel Lee and Theodis Lee, all of Glenwood; sisters, Catherine Rozier of Dublin, Celestine Lee and Ruby Johnson, both of Glenwood; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Mildred Day Swymer O’Neal
Graveside services for Mildred Day Swymer O’Neal of Valdosta, formerly of Rhine were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 8 at the Bay Springs Cemetery in Rhine.
The Rev. Bobby Ryals officiated.
O’Neal, 86, died Monday, July 5, 2004 at the McRae Manor Nursing Home. She was the daughter of Fred Day and Ruth Bowen Day; widow of Laurie Symer, Sr. and was preceded in death by her husband, Lonnie O’Neal.
She was a retired florist, a member of Redland Baptist Church in Valdosta.
Survivors include her daughter, Gayle Olson of New York, N.Y.; son, Laurie Swymer of New York, N.Y.; sisters, Ruth D. Gillis and Juanita D. Shepherd, both of Rhine.
Stokes-Southerland Funeral Home of Eastman was in charge of arrangements.
Lottie Hutto Yeomans
Services for Lottie Hutto Yeomans of East Dublin were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 14 in the chapel of Lowe’s Funeral Home with interment in the Zion Hope Cemetery.
The Rev. W.R. Connell officiated.
Yeomans, 83, died Sunday, July 11, 2004 at Fairview Park Hospital in Dublin. She was the daughter of the late Henry and Sallie Smith White and widow of William Frank Yeomans.
She was a native of Dodge County and was a homemaker.
Survivors include her children, Claudia Ricks and Rosetta White, both of Helena, Barbara White of East Dublin, Frank Yeomans of Alamo, 14 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
Lowe’s Funeral Home of Helena was in charge of arrangements.
Mitchell Knowles
Services for Mitchell Knowles of Milan were held at 3 p.m. Monday, July 5 at Siloam Baptist Church with interment in the church cemetery.
The Rev. Ralph Horne officiated.
Knowles, 20, died Saturday, July 3, 2004, from injuries sustained in a vehicle accident. He was the son of Randy and Patsy Knowles of Milan.
He was a native of Dublin, and was a lifelong resident of Telfair County. He was a member of Siloam Baptist Church and was a Private First Class in the United States Army.
In addition to his parents, survivors include his brothers, Michael Knowles, Daniel Knowles, Brandon Knowles and Timothy Knowles, all of Milan; grandfather, W.D. Knowles of Milan; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Lowe’s Funeral Home of Helena was in charge of arrangements.
Gordon Owens
Services for Gordon Owens of Helena were held at 4 p.m. Friday, June 25 at New Bethel Baptist Church with interment in the church cemetery.
The Rev. Alvin Lewis and the Rev. Jack McVey officiated.
Owens, 81, died Tuesday, June 22, 2004. He was the son of the late Ellis and Ledoski Rogers Owens and was married to Sarah Haynes Owens of Helena.
A native of Telfair County, he was a member of New Bethel Baptist Church. He was a farmer for many years and was also a Gideon for 30 years.
In addition to his wife, survivors include his daughters, Ellene Dykes and Karen Lann, both of Helena; brother, Eck Owens of McRae; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Lowe’s Funeral Home of Helena was in charge of arrangements.
