Dr. Becky Burkhalter
Dr. Becky Burkhalter, 44, died Thursday, November 23, 2000, at her residence in Claxton, Georgia. She was a lifelong resident of Glennville and Claxton. She was a graduate of Pinewood Christian Academy, Georgia Southern University, and received her Doctorate of Education from the University of Georgia. She was a former teacher and administrator at Pinewood Christian Academy and an administrator at the Liberty County High School. She was currently a professor of English at Georgia Southern University. She was a member of Cornerstone Bible Church.
She is survived by two brothers, Leland Charles Burkhalter of Glennville, Georgia, and Lyn Rodney Burkhalter of Flowery Branch, Georgia; one niece, Reba Jane Burkhalter of Flowery Branch, Georgia; one nephew, Leland Todd Burkhalter of Glennville; and several aunts and uncles.
Funeral services were held Sunday, November 26, at 2 p.m. at Cornerstone Bible Church, with the Rev. Jim Sutton officiating. Burial was in the Glennville City Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Dana Hammock; Mike Brewton; Jack Floyd, Jr.; Pat Burkhalter; Bubba Burkhalter; and Charles Burkhalter.

Lewis C. Whittle
Lewis C. Whittle, 57, died Sunday, November 26, 2000, at Glenvue Nursing Home in Glennville, Georgia. He was under the care of Hospice of Hinesville. He was a native of Liberty County, Georgia, and lived the past ten years in Hinesville, Georgia. He was a former Correctional Officer at Rogers State Prison. He served 14 years in the U. S. Army, was a Vietnam veteran, and was the recipient of the Purple Heart.
He is survived by his wife, Yong Nam Whittle of Hinesville; three sons, Jimmy Kim and Jonathan Whittle, both of Hinesville, and Kenneth Whittle of Japan; two sisters, Peggie Kennedy of Glennville and Lillie Andrews of Darien, Georgia; two brothers, Robert C. Whittle of Glennville and Jesse Whittle of Eastman, Georgia.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, November 28, at Carter Funeral Home Oglethorpe Chapel in Hinesville. Burial was in Oglethorpe Memorial Park, with full military honors.

Edward Reddish
Edward Reddish, 78, died Wednesday, June 20, 2001, at home. He was a lifelong resident of Long County. He was a former electrician, and was a retired mechanic with the U. S. Civil Service. He was a Baptist.
He is survived by three sons: Gene Reddish, Hugh Reddish, and Charles Reddish, all of Ludowici, Georgia; two daughters, Norma Howell and Henrietta Hudson, both of Valdosta, Georgia; two brothers, Slater Reddish of Pensacola, Florida, and Luther Reddish of Ludowici; 16 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Saturday, June 23, at 3 p.m. at Cobb Funeral Home, Glennville Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Oscar Rowe, Jr., and the Rev. Irvin Poole. iIntermentfollowed in Pigot Branch Baptist Church Cemetery.

Carl J. Bowen
Carl J. Bowen, 47, died Monday, June 25, 2001. He was a native of Atlanta and moved to Glennville in 1972. He attended West Georgia College and was a retired Fort Stewart Civil Service worker. He was a Baptist.
Survivors are his mother, Thelma Groover Bowen of Glennville; a son, Kristopher J. Bowen of Augusta; two step-daughters, Dusty Smith Wallace of Metter and Jami Smith of Claxton; and a sister, Jane B. Brinckerhoff of Windermere, Florida.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, June 27, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Cobb Funeral Home, Glennville Chapel.
Graveside services will be held Thursday, June 28, at 3 p.m. at Westview cemetery in Atlanta.

Marion Blankinship
Marion Tootle Blankinship, 88, a Tattnall County native and a long-time Reidsville resident, died Tuesday, June 26, 2001, at The Hospice Atlanta Center in Atlanta, Georgia, following a two-year battle with cancer. She had been a resident of Delmar Gardens Retirement Community, Smyrna, Georgia, since 1985, serving for many years as a member of the Resident Council and the community's goodwill ambassador.
She entered Georgia Teachers' College, now Georgia Southern University (GSU), just as the Great Depression began. She started her career as a classroom teacher approximately 12 months later. She continued her education and was a 1953 GSU graduate. She retired in 1977, having taught history and social studies in Tattnall, Liberty, and Evans County Schools for 43 years.
During the many years she lived in Reidsville, she was a faithful and active member of the Reidsville United Methodist Church. She served as a member of the Administrative Board, Assistant Sunday School Superintendent, officer and member of the Wesleyan Service Guild, the Tommy Thompson Sunday School Class, and Adult Leader for Methodist Youth Fellowship (MYF). She was a member of the Old Shiloh cemetery Association; the Reidsville Grand Rascalettes; and a past member of the Tattnall County Historical Society. She had been an active member of the Tattnall County Association of Retired Teachers and Delta Kappa Gamma, an honorary teaching sorority.
She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Theo and Addie Tootle, and brothers, Harold and Leslie Tootle.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, William M. and Katherine J. Blankinship of Atlanta; grandchildren C. Brandon Blankinship and Lissa J. Blankinship of Roswell, Georgia, and Jon A. Blankinship of New York, New York; sisters-in-law Lillie C. Tootle of Merritt Island, Florida, and Mary S. Tootle of Reidsville; and eight nieces and nephews.
Family visitation will be Wednesday, June 27, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at McCall Funeral Home, 124 Jordan Street, Reidsville, Georgia.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 28, at 2 p.m. at Reidsville United Methodist Church. The Rev. Joan Pritcher, Episcopal Church of the Atonement, Atlanta, will officiate, assisted by the Rev. Marshall Singletary. iIntermentwill follow in Reidsville City Cemetery.

James E. Rewis
James Edwin Rewis, 70, died Wednesday, August 8, 2001, at his residence. He was born and reared in Collins, Georgia, but had made his home in Reidsville, Georgia, for the past 30 years. He was a graduate of Collins High School. He retired in 1971 from the U. S. Army, having served in Europe, Korea, Vietnam, and various areas in the United States. He was employed by the Department of Corrections in 1971 and served in several capacities until his retirement in 1995. He was a Reidsville City Council member, representing Ward 2, Post 2, and was the overseer of the Reidsville Police Department.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis B. Rewis of Reidsville; a daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Bobby Cartwright of Oak Park; a brother and sister-in-law, Gene and Rodie Rewis of Fountain Inn, South Carolina; a grandson, Brian Dismuke of Cobbtown, Georgia; a granddaughter, Michelle Dismuke of Collins; a great-grandson, Elijah Brock Dismuke of Savannah; a step-grandson, Jason Cartwright of Oak Park; a stepgranddaughter, Beth Cartwright of Oak Park; a stepgreat-grandson, J. D. Cartwright of Oak Park; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Shirley and John Wilhelm of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; and an aunt and uncle, J. H. and Voncile Andrews of Collins.

Barry T. Stubbs
Barry T. Stubbs, 72, died Thursday, August 9, 2001, at Evans Memorial Hospital in Claxton, Georgia, after a long illness. The Tattnall County native was a member of Beards Creek Primitive Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and in various other offices. He was a farmer, and a former Tattnall County Tax Assessor.
He is survived by his wife, Bebe Bazemore Stubbs of Glennville, Georgia; two sons and daughters-in-law, Greg and Lana Stubbs of Bristol, Tennessee, and Shawn and Beth Stubbs of Glennville; one brother, Dean Stubbs of Glennville; one stepdaughter, Harriet Ferguson of Dallas, Texas; one stepson, James Higgs of Columbia, South Carolina; four grandchildren: Laura Beth Kinch and Brad Stubbs of Bristol, Tennessee; and Erin Stubbs and Matthew Stubbs of Glennville.
Funeral services were held Saturday, August 11, at 11 a.m. at Beards Creek Primitive Baptist Church, with Elder Jimmy Haire and Elder Scott Williams officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Oscar E. West, Jr.
Oscar Eden "Buddy" West, Jr., 76, a longtime Savannah Realtor, died Tuesday, August 7, 2001, at home. The native of Savannah, Georgia, attended The University of Georgia. He was a decorated Navy veteran of World War II, serving on the Destroyer USS Barber in both the Atlantic Theater of War, including the European and North African campaigns, and in the Pacific Theater of War, including the Okinawa and Philippine campaigns. He founded West Rotary Co., and was involved in the family firm as an investment counselor. He was a member of the Savannah Board of Realtors, Sons of the Revolution, Sons of Confederate Veterans, Destroyer Escort Sailors Association, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Savannah Yacht Club, Plimsoll Club, and the Penguin Club. He was a communicant of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church.
He is survived by his wife, Margie Thompson West of Savannah; a son, David Alan West of Savannah; two sisters, Elizabeth West Pepera of Richmond, Virginia; and Frances West Dutton of Glennville, Georgia; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Friday, August 10, at Hubert C. Baker Funeral Home, Hodgson Memorial Chapel. Burial was in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.

Ricky W. Burkhalter, 38, died Wednesday, August 8, 2001, at home after an extended illness. He was a lifelong resident of Long County. He was a heavy equipment operator.
He is survived by one son, Richard W. Burkhalter of Glennville, Georgia; his father, L. W. Burkhalter, Jr., of Glennville; his mother and stepfather, Ethel Blanche and Hoyt Beckworth of Baxley, Georgia; one sister, Kay Thomas of Baxley; one brother, Craig Burkhalter of Glennville; one niece, Kayla Thomas; two nephews, Matthew Thomas and Dylan Thomas; and a special friend, Sue Anderson of Glennville.

Nina V. Bazemore
Nina Vincill Bazemore, 77, died Wednesday, August 1, 2001, in Delray Beach, Florida. She was born in Dante, Virginia, a daughter of the late Everett and Ruby Vincill. She was the widow of Russell Bazemore, and was also preceded in death by three sisters: Mildred Winfield, Mabel Vincill, and Mary Alice Vincill. She was a former resident of Bristol, Virginia.
She is survived by a daughter, Kathryn McMurrain of Boynton Beach, Florida; four sisters: Dorothy Moore of Bristol, Virginia; Nancy Cross and her husband, Gene, of Bristol, Tennessee; Betty Wright and her husband, Jimmy, of Bristol, Virginia; and Linda Thayer of Blountville, Tennessee; four brothers: Jim Vincill and his wife, Rachel, of Mountain City, Tennessee; Douglas Vincill and his wife, Karen, of Bristol, Virginia; Danny Vincill and his wife, Marlene, of Nashville; and Jerry Vincill and his wife, Barbara, of Bristol, Virginia; two granddaughters, Kelly Wondra and her husband, Jason, of Lantana, Florida; and Cari McMurrain of Boynton Beach; three great-grandchildren: J. T., Austin, and Madison, all of Lantana; 17 nieces and nephews; and several grandnieces and grandnephews.
A private family service was held in Bristol, Tennessee. Burial was in Mountain View Cemetery, also in Bristol.
Barbara N. Tyre
Barbara Nell Swindell Tyre, 73, died Sunday, August 5, 2001. She was born in Glennville, Georgia, and was a Magna Cum Laude graduate of Draughan Business College in Savannah, Georgia, and was formerly the Chaplain of Women of the Moose-Beaches Lodge. She held a variety of career positions over her lifetime to include forest resource manager. She worked for Newsom's Fence Company, was a volunteer for the Shriners and Masons, as well as being a domestic engineer.
She is survived by one son, Walter E. Tyre, Jr., and several other distant relatives in the Tattnall County area of Georgia. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter E. Tyre, Sr.
Private memorial services are to be held at a later date.
