Mr. Cecil "Perk" Glen Perkey
Mr. Cecil "Perk" Glen Perkey, 67, of Walker Road, Villa Rica passed away on Friday, July 26, 2002 at the VA Medical Center in Atlanta following an extended illness. He was born on September 24, 1934 in Hamblen County, TN the son of the late William Fred Perkey and the late Mrs. Katy Ruth Long Perkey. He was a member of Gateway Baptist Church in Villa Rica and was a diesel mechanic. He served in the U.S. Army for over 10 years. He was a busdriver for several different gospel music groups and he helped with the maintainance of the gospel buses. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his daugther, Fannie Ruth Perkey and his brothers, Charlie William Perkey and Eugene Perkey. He is survived by his wife, Vennia “Val” Novella Archer Perkey of Villa Rica; 3 daughters and sons in law, Frances and Claude Ellis of Powder Springs, Joyce and Jim Lanier of Buford, and Wilma and Jimmy Dangar of Douglasville; son and daughter in law, Tony and Tessia Perkey of Douglasville; 6 grandchildren; and brother in law, Ed Way of Rogersville, TN. Mr. Charles Otis Taff
Mr. Charles Otis Taff, 71, of Phenix City, AL passed away on Saturday, July 27, 2002 at his residence. He was born on September 12, 1930 in Phenix City the son of the late Otis W. and Katie Sellers Taff. He was a member of First United Methodist Church for over fifty years and served on various boards and committees. He was a member of Friendship Sunday School Class and coached the church softball and volleyball teams for many years. As a child and teenager Charles worked at C.M. Taff Grocery with his grandfather and father. After the death of his grandfather the store became Taff Grocery, owned by Otis Taff. In 1969, Taff Thriftown was built and Charles worked there with his father until his father’s death and then the store became Charles'. He operated it until his retirement in 1986. Mr. Taff is survived by his wife of fifty years, Mary Jones Taff of Phenix City, AL; daughters and sons in law, Amy and Ken Duncan of Villa Rica and Jan and Lamar Horne of Phenix City, AL; son and daughter in law, Barry Charles and Virginia Taff of Phenix City; 7 grandchildren, Wesley Charles Taff of Phenix City, Brian Lamar Horne of Phenix City, Katie Taff of Phenix City, Brett Thomas Horne of Phenix City, Haleigh Taff Duncan of Villa Rica, Forrest Wynn Duncan of Villa Rica and Kara Tate Duncan of Villa Rica; nieces and nephews.
