Francis Loys
'Bud' Seabolt

Died Sept. 22, 2004

Francis Loys "Bud" Seabolt, age 76 of Clermont, died Wednesday September 22, at his residence after a battle with cancer.

Mr. Seabolt was born February 29, 1928 in Lumpkin County to the late Francis N. and Cora Bell Harkins Seabolt. He was a retired poultry farmer, as well as an avid gardener, hunter and fisherman. He was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Dahlonega.

Other than his parents, Mr. Seabolt was preceded in death by his sisters, Dollie Rider, Amy Seabolt, Icie Wilson, Flora Bell Gibbs, Martha Roper; twin sister, Lorene Meers; half sisters, Pearl Lingerfelt, Belle Dowdy, Mattie Anderson, Caroline Stancil, Lona Crow, Ovie Satterfield, Tinnie Rider, and Cora Miller.
Survivors include his wife of fifty-three years: Betty R. "Sharla Fae" Satterfield Seabolt, Clermont; sons and daughters-in-law, Roger and Barbara Seabolt, of Clermont, Wayne and Deborah Seabolt, of Dahlonega, Don and Sharon Seabolt, Clermont; daughters and sons-in-law, Wanda and Wender Bulloch, Flowery Branch, Sandra and Mike Haynes, of Clermont; grandchildren, Matthew and April Truelove, of Knoxville, Tenn., Justin and Meghan Seabolt, of Athens, Jared and Kelly Seabolt, of Dahlonega, Christopher Bulloch, of Flowery Branch, Christy Seabolt, Mark Seabolt, Hank Haynes, Renee Seabolt and Nic Haynes, all of Clermont, Leania Bulloch, of Flowery Branch, Ben Rodriguez, Cara Rodriguez, Jordan Rodriguez, Patrick Boyce and Aaron Boyce, all of Clermont; one great-grandson, Joshua Truelove, of Knoxville, Tenn.; sisters and brother in law, Nettie Seabolt, Dawsonville, Annie and Claude Lingerfelt, Dahlonega, Special friends: Jerry and Patty McCormick. A host of nieces, nephews, and friends also survive.

Funeral services were Saturday September 25, at the Banister Funeral Home Chapel in Dahlonega with Rev. David Skinner, Rev. Jerry McCormick, and Rev. Lyman Caldwell officiating.

iIntermentwill follow in the Mt. Olive Baptist Church cemetery in Lumpkin County.

Larry G. Hamby
Died Sept. 21, 2004

Larry G. Hamby, age 60, of Dawsonville died Tuesday, September 21 at his residence following a sudden illness. He was a member of Liberty Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Major and Ima Hamby.

Survivors include is wife of fourty one years, Sandra Hamby, Dawsonville; children Elaine and Kerry Vanderpool, Joe Hamby and Michael Hamby all of Dawsonville; granddaughter Rachael Hamby; brother Wayne Hamby both of Dawsonville; sister and brother in law, Gerrie and Morris Wethington of Gainesville.

Funeral services were held Thursday, Sept 24 at Ingram Funeral Home Chapel with Re. Larmon Barron and Rev. Stephen Davis officiating. iIntermentwas in Sawnee View Memorials Gardens.

Elco 'Kit' Thurmond
Died Sept. 26, 2004

Elco "Kit" Thurmond, 84, of Dawsonville died on Sunday, September 26 at his residence following a short illness.

He was a native of Lumpkin County and lived for many years in Norcross before returning to Dawson County. He retired after twenty-seven years of meritious service with Complete Auto Transit in which he was never responsible for an accident. He was also an avid Braves fan who enjoyed a friendly poker game. He was a member of Goshen Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, June and two sons, Steve and Chris Stalnaker.

Survivors include daughters Lisa T. Lee of Dawsonville, and Randy Stalnaker of Bent Tree; sons Karl Stalnaker of Austell, and Vance Thurmond of Dawsonville; twelve grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Funeral services are scheduled for today at 2 p.m. at Goshen Baptist Church. The Rev. Hugh Fields will officiate and interment will follow in the New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery.

Eddie Thomas
Died Sept. 23, 2004

Eddie Thomas, formerly of Dawson County, died on Thursday, September 23 at his home in Smyrna.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Rhames and Sara Thomas,

Survivors include his wife, Elaine; daughters Angel and Traci; stepdaughters, Amie and Charlean; grandchildren, Breana, Lance, Lorna, and Donovan.

A private memorial was held at his home on Sunday, September 26.
The Cremation Society of the South was in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Arvil William "Tut" Babb

Mr. Arvil William "Tut" Babb, 86, of Dalton, departed this life Monday morning, May 17, 2004, at his home surrounded by his family.

Mr. Babb was born Jan. 27, 1918, in Whitfield County, son of the late Luther Columbus and Estelle (Gillean) Babb. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Travis Retha (Chitwood) Babb; his brothers, F.L. Babb, Roland Babb, Otto Babb Levern "Bigun" Babb; and sisters, GeNearl Brooker and Velma Dickerson.

Mr. Babb loved life, loved his family, loved to play golf and remained very active in his community. Tut, as he was known to family and friends, was the unofficial mayor of Dug Gap. He was a member of Dug Gap Baptist Church for over 80 years, most recently attended Temple Baptist Church, a member of the Valley Point Ruritans for over 40 years and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Rita and Skip Gray of Alpharetta; sons and daughters-in-law, Lamar and Linda Babb of Searcy, Ark., and Marshall and Glenda Babb of Calhoun; grandchildren, Teena and Keith Barnette, Renee and Tony Farrell, Susan Rich, Rodney and Jennifer Babb, Bill and Angie Dickie; great-grandchildren, Joshua Barnette, Emily Rich, Connie Farrell, Nathan Rich, Elaine Dickie, Chloe Babb, David Dickie, Anna Marie Dickie and Caleb Babb; sister, Mrs. Johnnie Barnett of Dalton; several nieces and nephews.

Services to celebrate Mr. Babb's life will be held Wednesday, May 19, 2004, at 11 a.m., from the Temple Baptist Church with the Rev. Danny Goss, the Rev. Brett Yaeger and the Rev. Bob Bagley officiating. iIntermentwill follow in the Dug Gap Baptist Church Cemetery.

American Legion Post 112 will be in charge of graveside services.

The family will receive friends at the Melrose Chapel of Ponders Funeral Home from 4 to 8 p.m. today.

Mrs. Mildred L. Cox

Mrs. Mildred L. Cox, 70, of Rocky Face, departed this life Friday evening, May 21, 2004, at Quinton Health Care. Mrs. Cox was born July 25, 1933, in Whitfield County, daughter of the late Paul and Annie (Teasley) Morrison. Her great-nephews, P.J. Morrison and Christian Linville preceded her in death.

Mrs. Cox is survived by her husband, William E. Cox of the residence; brother and sister-in-law, Earl and Pauline Morrison of Rocky Face; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Edward and Agnes Cox of Williamson; nieces and nephews, Phyllis and Dan Grant of Rocky Face, Paula and Steve Linville of West Virginia, Pat and Daniel Oliver of Crossville, Ala., Pam and Clifford Klingbiel of Atlanta, Paul (Buddy) Morrison Jr., of Rocky Face, William Farina and his wife of Chicago, Ill., Joe Farina of New Buffalo, Mich., Phil Farina and his wife of Winnetka, Ill.; 12 great nieces and great nephews, 13 great great nieces and great great nephews.

Funeral services will be held Monday, May 24, 2004, at 2 p.m. form the Melrose Chapel of Ponders Funeral Home with the Rev. Dewey Boyd and the Rev. Marshal Lamb officiating. iIntermentwill follow in the West Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home after 5 p.m. today.

Mrs. Lydia Avis Jackson King

Mrs. Lydia Avis Jackson King, of Dalton, died Saturday, June 5, 2004, at her residence.

She was born in Adairsville, daughter of the late Robert D. and Gussie Jackson; she graduated from West Georgia College and the University of Chattanooga and taught school for 31 years with the Dalton Public Schools.

Avis was a member of the Dalton First United Methodist Church for 75 years; was a member of the Dalton Whitfield Retired Teachers Association; Alpha Delta Kappa Teachers' Sorority; Georgia Retired Educators' Association and the Dalton Lions' Auxiliary.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Prentiss King in 1979; her sister, Jane Gray Jackson; brothers, William T. Jackson and Robert D. Jackson.

Avis is survived by her daughter, Jane King Parks and Claire King, both of Dalton; grandchildren, Claire and Kraig Count, Patrick Parks, Caroline and Stephen Jackson; great-grandchildren, Gray Jackson and Ian Count.

Services will be Monday at 2 p.m. at the Chapel of the First United Methodist Church with Dr. Joe Peabody officiating.

Burial will be in West Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends in the atrium of the church on Monday from 1 to 2 p.m.

The family request flowers be omitted and memorials made to the Dalton First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 627, Dalton, Ga., 30722-0627.

Ina Mae Broadrick

Ina Mae Broadrick, 92, of the Pleasant Grove community in Dalton, died Tuesday, June 8, 2004, at her residence.

Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Julian Peeples Funeral Home, Pleasant Grove Chapel, Dalton.

Mr. Roy Glenn Bennett

Mr. Roy Glenn Bennett, 53, of Dalton, departed this life Saturday afternoon, May 15, 2004.

Roy was born March 6, 1951 in Pickens County. He was employed at Rosedale Transport as a truck driver and was a member of the Valley Brook Church of God.

He was preceded in death by his father, Walter Glenn Bennett. Roy loved his family and friends, and his grandchildren were the light of his life.

He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Carolyn (Akins) Bennett of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Michael Roy and Sherri Bennett; grandchildren, Justin, Jadyn and Jenna Bennett; mother, Jean (Carver) Bennett all of Dalton; sisters and brothers-in-law, Debbie and Terry Callahan of Chatsworth, Donna and Tommy Taylor of Dalton; grandmother, Estelle Ponder of Dalton; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Katheryn and Bill Kirby of Chattanooga, Tenn.; several nieces, nephews and many friends.

Services to celebrate the life of Roy Bennett are today at 2 p.m. from the Melrose Chapel of Ponders Funeral Home with his pastor, the Rev. Chester Edwards, officiating.

Burial will follow in the United Memorial Gardens. His nephews will serve as pallbearers, Chris Calhoun, Anthony Calhoun, Shane Calhoun, Anthony Sanford, Jason McFalls and Bryan Sanford.

The family received friends at the funeral home on Monday.

Robbie Hunsucker

Robert "Robbie" Hunsucker III, 26, passed away Friday morning, May 21, 2004. He was a life long resident of the North Georgia area and was a member of the Ringgold First Baptist Church.

Mr. Hunsucker was the Owner of the Green Lawn Works.com

Survivors include father and step-mother Robert Vance (Debbi) Hunsucker, Jr. of Dalton; mother and step-father Millie Williams (Glenn) Cheek of Ringgold; brothers Jordan Daniel Hunsucker and Christopher David Hunsucker both of Dalton, Bradley Sanders Cheek of Ringgold; sisters Mary Elizabeth Cheek of Athens, Alexandrea Lauren Cheek of Ringgold and Lezlie Victoria Cheek of Nashville, Tenn., and Sara Noelle Webb of Athens.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at The Ringgold First Baptist Church with the Rev. Dan Whittaker and the Rev. Dave Meadors officiating. iIntermentwill follow in the Whitfield Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Heritage Funeral Home, Battlefield Parkway.
