Ralph Noah Armstrong
Mr. Ralph Noah Armstrong, 65, of Dahlonega, died Monday, June 11, 2001, at his residence following an extended illness.
Mr. Armstrong was a native of Hall County who had lived all of his life in Lumpkin County. He was a member of Harvest Baptist Church in Lumpkin County.
He was the son of the late William Robert Armstrong and Annie Mae Rice Armstrong, and was also preceded in death by brother, William Eugene Armstrong, and Lloyd Billy Armstrong.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Armstrong, Dahlonega; sons and daughters-in-law, Danny and Debbie Dover, Roger and Imogene Dover, Ralph Jr. and Kathleen Armstrong, Vernon Lewis Armstrong and Dottie Summerour, Kenneth and Beverly Armstrong, all of Dahlonega; daughters and sons-in-law, Joyce Armstrong and Shane Etris, Melissa and David Gilbert, Melinda Fay Angel, all of Dahlonega; brothers, Clifford Dean Armstrong, Jerry Armstrong, Hoyt Franklin Armstrong, all of Dahlonega; sisters, Martha Mae Davis, Faye Gillespie, both of Gainesville; 18 grandchildren; and a large number of other relatives.
Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. June 14 at Harvest Baptist Church in Lumpkin County. The Rev. David Nix, the Rev. Troy Foster and the Rev. Mark Biddy will officiating.
Burial will follow in Dahlonega Memorial Park.

Vernon W. Head
Mr. Vernon W. Head, 73, of 789 Martin Head Circle, Dahlonega, died Wednesday, July 25, 2001 at the Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville. Following a short illness.
Mr. Head was a native and lifelong resident of Lumpkin County, retired poultry farmer, and was of the Baptist faith. He was the son of the late Grover and Pearl Butler Head.
Survivors include his wife, Fannie Head, of Dahlonega; sons and daughters-in -aw, Danny and Evonne Head, of Murrayville; David and Donna Nix, of Dawsonville; brother and sister-in-law, Glenn and Inez Head, of Dahlonega; grandchildren, Jeremy Head, Jordan Head, Melanie Head, Christopher Nix, Brandon Nix, Ethan Nix. Several other relatives also survive.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Friday, July 27, 2001, at the Banister Funeral Home Chapel in Dahlonega, with the Rev. George Ziemer and Rudy Meyers officiating. iIntermentfollowed in the Concord Baptist Church cemetery in Lumpkin County.

Robert Lee Glaze
Mr. Robert Lee 'Buck' Glaze, 79, of 70 Reid Chapman Rd., Murrayville, died Wednesday, July 25, 2001, at the Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville following a period of declining health.
Born June 16, 1922, a lifelong resident of Lumpkin County, Mr. Glaze had retired in 1979, after 30 years with the General Motors Corporation. Mr. Glaze was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church. Mr. Glaze was preceded in death by his parents, Cicero and Lona Anderson Glaze, and a brother, Vernon Glaze.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Mrs. Annie Barnes Glaze, of Murrayville; son and daughter-in-law, Reggie and Carolyn Glaze, of Calhoun; two grandsons, Grant Glaze and Griff Glaze, both of Calhoun; one granddaughter, Ginny Kirby, of Cumming; four great-grandchildren, Carson Glaze, Cullen Glaze, Carter Glaze, and Turner Kirby; brother and sister-in-law, Roy and Lorraine Glaze, of Dahlonega. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Friday, July 27, 2001, from the Wahoo Baptist Church. The Rev. Dean Bryant officiated, and interment followed in the church cemetery. McKinney Funeral Home of Dahlonega was in charge of the arrangements.
Roderick Charles Dennis
Mr. Roderick Charles Dennis, 72, of Dahlonega, died Friday, Oct. 12, 2001, at Lanier Park Hospital in Gainesville following an extended illness.
Born in Buffalo, N.Y., to the late Roderick Charles and Margaret O’Donnell Dennis, Mr. Dennis was a former resident of Cumming, having lived in Lumpkin County for the past 17 years.
Mr. Dennis was a U.S. Army Veteran, having served in the Korean Conflict and was the owner/operator of Southern Sport Surfaces in Cumming.
Survivors include his daughter, Elizabeth Dennis, Long Beach, Calif.; son, Roderick C. “Rick” Dennis Jr., Cumming; sister, Jane Walsh, Aiken, S.C.; brother, John Dennis, Buffalo, N.Y.; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Graveside services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, at Dahlonega Memorial Park. The Rev. Jody Ray will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the charity of one’s choice.

Iowa Davis
Mrs. Iowa Davis, 75, of Dahlonega, died Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2001, at her residence following an extended illness.
Mrs. Davis was a native of Fannin County who had lived in Lumpkin County most of her life.
She was retired from the Burlington Pine Tree Plant in Dahlonega with more than 30 years of service. She was a member of Siloam Baptist Church in Lumpkin County.
She was the daughter of the late Thomas and Lovie Ingram Meers, and was also preceded in death by her husband, Garland Davis, and a son, Thomas Davis.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law; Pauline and Fred Rider, Dahlonega; son and daughter-in-law, Dean and Katie Davis, Dahlonega; six grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and several other relatives.
Services were held Oct. 11 at Banister Funeral Home Chapel in Dahlonega with the Rev. Johnny Garrett and the Rev. Lyman Caldwell officiating. Burial followed in Siloam Baptist Church Cemetery.

Dallas Jack Lawson II
Dallas Jack Lawson II, 18-month-old son of Dallas and Bonnie Lawson, of Dahlonega, died Thursday, Oct. 11, 2001.
Survivors other than the parents are a sister, Chasity Marie Hill, Dahlonega; grandparents, Martha Hill, Dahlonega, Buddy and Patsy Wolfery, Batesville, Ark.; great-grandmother, Margaret Howard, Dahlonega; and several other relatives.
A graveside service was held Oct. 14 at Antioch cemetery in Lumpkin County with the Rev. Robert Martin officiating.

Gladys C. Long
Mrs. Gladys C. Long, 74, of Dawsonville, died Thursday Oct. 11, 2001.
Survivors includce her husband, Mr. James H. Long, Dawsonville; daughters and sons-in-law, Sally and Mike Farris, Roswell, Sonja and Douglas Mason, Barbara Hay, Brenda Martin, all of Dawsonville, Lynn Marks and Paul Cates, Cumming; sons, Ricky Long, Gainesville, Michael Long, Dawsonville; 18 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Services were held Oct. 14 in the Louie E. Jones Funeral Home Chapel, Alpharetta, with the Rev. Eddie Parker officiating. Burial followed at Sawnee View Gardens.

Wilson Jarrard
Mr. Wilson Jarrard, 84, of Dahlonega, died Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2001, at Chestatee Regional Hospital in Dahlonega following a period of declining health.
He was a native of Lumpkin County. He was a former resident of Missouri, was retired fro mthe Bendix Corporation, was a U.S. Army veteran, a Mason, and member of Town Creek Baptist Church in White County.
He was the son of the late Elze Clinton Jarrard and Elizabeth Porter Jarrard, and was also preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Jarrard; son, Randall Jarrard; brothers, Homer Jarrard, Lee Jarrard, Niles Jarrard, Guy Jarrard, Harold Jarrard; and sisters, Callie Jarrard, Ina Hope, and Hazel Caldwell.
Survivors include his sons and daughters-in-law, Orville “Chipper” and Linda Jarrad, Kansas City, Mo., Ronald and Susie Jarrard, Murrayville; daughter, Sherry Piezon, Austin, Texas; three grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and a large number of other relatives.
Services were held Nov. 23 at Town Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Dean Bryant and the Rev. Lyman Caldwell officiating. Burial followed in the church cemerty.

Edd Benjamin Ridley
Mr. Edd Benjamin Ridley, 88, of Dahlonega, died Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2001, at Gold City Healthcare in Dahlonega following an extended illness.
Born Feb. 20, 1913, in Lumpkin County, Mr. Ridley was the son of the late Henry and Dollie Porter Ridley. Mr. Ridley had worked as a custodian for the Lumpkin County School System, was a retired farmer, had served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Lumpkin County where he served as a Deacon for 46 years.
Mr. Ridley was also preceded in death by his sisters, Oma Wimpy and Annie McBrayer; and brothers, Alex Ridley, Lewis Ridley and Harvey Ridley.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Mrs. Callie G. Ridley of Dahlonega, and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Services were held Nov. 24 at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Lumpkin County with the Rev. Ronald Seabolt and the Rev. Dean Bryant officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Donald George Harkins
Mr. Donald George Harkins, 53, of Dahlonega, died Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2001, at his residence, following an extended illness.
Born Aug. 30, 1948 in White County, Mr. Harkins had lived in Lumpkin County for the past 43 years. Mr. Harkins was a U.S. Army veteran, was a self-employed builder and was a member of Cane Creek Baptist Church in Lumpkin County.
Mr. Harkins was preceded in death by his father, George Harkins, and three brothers, Freddie Harkins, Buck Harkins and Mac Harkins.
Survivors include his sons, Joseph Harkins, Dawsonville, Josh Harkins, Dahlonega; stepdaughters, Lisa Bunker, Marti Davis, both of Dahlonega; special friend, Joyce Bunker, Dahlonega; mother, Mrs. Mary Lee Harkins, Dahlonega; sisters, Sue Goff, Jackson, Patricia Abercrombie, Dahlonega, Margie Flanagan, Murrayville, Sabara McIntyre, Cleveland, Shelia Clore, Mineral Bluff; brothers, Jay Harkins, Macon, Kenny Harkins, Mickey Harkins, both of Dahlonega; and several nieces and nephews.
Services were held Nov. 17 at Cane Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Aubrey McIntyre and the Rev. Lyman Caldwell officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
